Take it from him.

US President Barack Obama on Wednesday night phoned President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to congratulate him. In addition, Obama said he is ready to offer Aquino his personal advice on how to quit smoking once he decides to end the habit.

Aquino, at a press conference at his residence on Times Street in Quezon City, said: “At some point I attempted some humor. ‘Mr. President, I understand we have the same issue with smoking.’ Sabi niya, ‘Well I quit that already. I quit, it’s your sole problem. I’m ready to offer advice.’”

He said Obama told him that he will have his advice sent to him “at the appropriate time, when you are ready.”

Obama made the call to Aquino’s mobile phone shortly past 9 p.m. Wednesday. The conversation lasted for about 20 minutes.

Hail to the chief

From his third level position, VERA Files photographer Mario Ignacio captured the atmosphere at yesterday’s proclamation of Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Jejomar Binay as winners for president and vice-president respectively of the May 10, 2010 election.

Aquino: ‘Reconciliation but not at sacrifice of justice’

by Wendell Vigilia and Peter Tabingo

President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino is open to extending the hand of reconciliation to all his political opponents – including President Arroyo – but this does not mean that he will bend backwards to bail them out of their crimes, if any, against the Filipino people.

No harm in treating people with respect

Aquino: Bangit not my AFP chief;Versoza to stay head of the PNP

AFP Chief Delfin Bangit does not know me. I have never talked with him. I have never interviewed him.

I have cursed him many times when we were covering the court martial hearings in Camp Capinpin in Tanay of military officers accused of mutiny in connection with an alleged plan to withdraw support from Gloria Arroyo in February 2006 for making it hard to hace access to the accused officers.

We would loudly complain every time we were pushed back from the path of the accused, among them Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda, Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, and Col. Ariel Querubin because we wanted to interview them (which Gen. Bangit didn’t allow) and take close up photos of them.

Arroyo extends Genuino at Pagcor for another one year term

Another past-midnight appointment

From ABS-CBN:

President Gloria Macapagal has re-appointed her close ally Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman Efraim Genuino as well as 4 members of its board of directors.

Genuino said he accepted his re-appointment, confirming a document obtained by ABS-CBN News that he had been re-appointed for another 1-year term.

Others who were re-appointed, based on the document from the Office of the Executive Secretary dated March 9, were Rafael Francisco, Philip Lo, Manuel C. Roxas and Ester Alano Laconico-Feria.

‘Please let Romulo go’: foreign service corps urges

.

Romulo, loyal to Gloria to the end
Romulo, loyal to Gloria to the end
The victory of Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino gave the Foreign Service corps a sense of hope that the winds of change he promised during the campaign would revitalize the department that had degenerated under the watch of Gloria Arroyo’s lackey, Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo.

But their hopes have been dashed when sources close to Aquino relayed the message that Romulo would be retained.

It’s demoralization time again for the country’s global frontliners.

It’s bad enough that Romulo is incompetent. What is worse is that he has been the face of the Arroyo government to the world throughout these years of corruption and human rights violations. He defended Arroyo in international fora amidst accusations of cheating in the 2004 election, extra-judicial killings, and massive corruption.

(“ conscientiously fulfill my duties as President, preserve and defend the Constitution, execute its laws…”)

Stress reliever?
Stress reliever?

Kris interviews Noynoy’s girlfriend, Shalani

From ABS-CBN online:

Shalani
Shalani
Valenzuela 2nd District Councilor Shalani Soledad has opened up about her more than a year relationship with winning presidential candidate Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Soledad, 30, was interviewed exclusively by Noynoy’s youngest sister, Kris. During the interview, she shared details about their first meeting as well as her thoughts on her 50-year-old boyfriend’s remarks that marriage is not his priority right now.

The interview was aired on “The Buzz” Sunday.

Below is Kris’s full interview with Soledad.

Kris (K): Umpisahan natin from the very, very beginning. April 27, 1980, ‘yon ang birthday mo. Ano ang type of family ‘yong nakagisnan mo?

K: How many years older sa’yo ang brother mo?
S: Three years. I’m the youngest. Dalawa lang kami.

Rectifying travesty of justice

The battle cry of Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, Jr. during the election campaign was “Kung walang korap, walang mahirap.”

He promised to wage a campaign against corruption, which he said deprives the people of thousands and million of pesos a year which should have gone to education, health, and other social services

Gloria Arroyo is the epitome of corruption and deceit. Fertilizer scam, NBN ZTE, Road Users tax, the list is too long for this space.
