Centerlaw voices alarm over Duterte’s acceptance of kangaroo court

Centerlaw, a non-government organization dedicated to the promotion of the Rule of Law in the Philippines and Asia, reminded President-Elect Rodrigo Duterte that as president of the Philippines, which he will be in 23 days, he is legally bound to ensure that every one within Philippine sovereignty is accorded due process of law.

Centerlaw expressed grave concern over the statement of Duterte that he is leaving the fate of General Generoso, Davao Oriental police Chief Inspector Arnold Ognachen to his captors, the New People’s Army.

Duterte, which has included the Communist Party of the Philippines in his government, had worked for the release of policemen captured by the CPP’s armed group before the May elections. He had also called for the release of Ognachen, who was captured when the NPA recently raided the Davao Oriental police station.

But in his press conference last Thursday, Duterte said an NPA commander told him that they seized drug from Ognachen adding the rebel leaders would not lie to him.

Dapat ikondena ang pagpatay sa Samar 11

Tama ang punto ni Col. Antonio Parlade, Jr., hepe ng Public Affairs ng Philippine Army sa kanyang emosyunal na sulat kung bakit ang mga defenders ng human rights ay tahimik sa ginawang pagpatay ng New People’s Army ng 10 sundalo kasama ang isang bata sa Samar noong Disyembre 14, dalawang araw magsimula ang napagkasunduang ceasefire sa pamagitan ng pamahalaan at ng Communist Party party of the Philippines, National Democratic Front at NPA.

Nagawa ang pagpatay sa pamamagitan ng landmine sa Las Navas sa Northern Samar. Mga miyembro ng 803rd Brigade ang nasawi na pabalik na sa headquarters para umuwi sa pamilya sa Pasko at bagong taon.

Malalim ang sama ng loob ni Parlade. Sabi niya:

“ Ang tanong namin: nasaan ang mga human rights advocates? Nasaan ang mga nagpu-protekta ng karapatan ng mga bata?

O ano ngayon kung NPA?

Utak-pulbura talaga itong si Jovito Palparan, ang paboritong heneral ni Gloria Arroyo.

Sinabi ni Palparan, dating commander ng 7th Infantry Division sa Central Luzon kung saan maraming na-salvage na milyembro ng mga militanteng grupo at ngayon isa ay isa ng partylist representative sa Kongreso, na si Melissa Roxas ang Filipino-American na aktibista ay miyembro daw ng New People’s Army.

Si Roxas ay miyembro ng progresibong grupong Bayan sa Estados-Unidos. Ilang beses na siya pumupunta dito sa Pilipinas para sa malaman ang kanyang pinanggalingan at malaman kung ano talaga ang tunay ng kalagayan ng bayan ng kanyang mga magulang.
