Fascinating assessments from US Embassy, Manila

I’m fascinated by the Wikileaks releases of the cables from the US Embassy in Manila.

The latest I’ve read was then ambassador Kristie Kenney’s assessment of Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr. as the defense secretary written in March 2007. It was one insult after another.

It said, “Tongue-tied and reticent, Defense Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane stands in stark contrast to his articulate and sophisticated predecessor, Avelino “Nonong” Cruz. “

It continued: “Ebdane was far from the best choice President Arroyo could have made to succeed former Secretary Cruz. He is clearly no intellect, but a through-and-through loyalist, a quality that the president, who only a year ago faced down a coup attempt, treasures. “

Ebdane denies ordering Batasan break-in; turns emotional in presscon

Zambales Gov. Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. turned emotional during a press conference Friday as he denied masterminding the switching of the genuine 2004 elections returns with manufactured ERs by a team composed of members of the Special Action Force of the Philippine National Police.

Speaking at a news conference held in Iba, Zambales which started with his tribute to former Zambales Rep. Antonio Diaz who passed away Wednesday, Ebdane said his main concern now is his province. “I never thought of my family. Nag-retire ako, pumunta ako rito sa probinsiya with nothing less but the interest of my province.” He choked and quickly left the press con.

Ebdane tried to turn the table against his accuser, Senior Supt. Rafael Santiago by mentioning the electronic bikes and explosives that are allegedly in the position of the former Zambales provincial police director.

Ano ang niluluto nina Ebdane?

Noong unang sinabi ni dating Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane na tatakbo siya bilang presidente hindi ko sineryoso. Sabi ko “maglalaba” lang yan.

Alam naman natin na ang problema ngayon ni Gloria Arroyo, ng mga miyembro ng kanyang pamilya, at ang mga alagad na kasabwat sa kanilang pagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan ay kung paano i-secure ang mga bilyunes na kanilang nanakaw sa kaban ng bayan.

Isip kasi natin sa galit ng taumbayan, sigurado na ang susunod na pangulo ay galing sa oposisyun at i-imbestigahan ang mga anomalya na nangyari sa administrasyong Arroyo. Marami sa anomalya na yan ay sa DPWH, na nasa pamumuno ni Ebdane.

Perwisyo ang mga mukha ni Arroyo at Ebdane

Kahapon, nagkaroon ng landslide sa mountain highway ng Antique papuntang Iloilo kaya nag-detour ang mga sasakyan sa daan ng Anini-iy.

Naging apat na oras ang biyaheng karaniwan ay tatlong oras lang.Mabuti na lang maaga ako umalis sa aming barrio (4:00 n.u), hindi ako nahuli sa aking 10:25 ng umaga na flight papuntang Manila.

Maraming ilog na nadadaan sa pagitan ng Antique at Iloilo. Sa aming dinaadan kahapon maraming tulay ang inaayos. Mabuti naman sana dahil ginagawa kaya lang ang nakakainis ay nag naglalakihang billboard na may mukha ni Gloria Arroyo at Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane.
