Listen to your mother

The outpouring of grief that catapulted Noynoy Aquino to the presidency.
The outpouring of grief that catapulted Noynoy Aquino to the presidency.

Had former President Cory Aquino not died on Aug. 1, 2009, her son, Benigno Aquino III would not be in Malacañang today.

At the time of Cory’s death, nine months before the May 2010 presidential elections, Noynoy Aquino, who had an unremarkable record as legislator (9 years as representative of the 2nd district of Tarlac and three years as senator), was not in anybody’s mind for the highest position in the land.

He was catapulted to the presidency by the people’s sympathy for his mother.

He owes his presidency to his mother.

Beware of Cha-Cha as Arroyo’s Trojan horse

Related article: ex CJ Puno: It’s time for charter change

Cha-cha tune is being played again and we should be wary and alert.

Last Sunday, a friend working in the House of Representatives alerted us that Gloria Arroyo and her allies are ready with the charter-change operation and they are just waiting for the right time to start it. She said Arroyo has the “budget” for it.

Arroyo has already made the first step when she filed on her first day as Pampanga 2nd District representative last July 1 a set of bills including House Resolution 8 calling for charter change through a Constitutional Convention. It was co-authored by her son, Camarines Sur. Rep. Dato Arroyo.

Legalizing the illegal

This is what is disturbing about the Supreme Court decision allowing Gloria Arroyo to make a midnight appointment to succeed Chief Justice Reynato Puno: Arroyo can do anything illegal to stay in power beyond June 2010 and the Supreme Court will give it a mantle of legality.

This is the scenario that we are looking: There will be partial failure of election. Only in the national level. That means no president, vice president and senators would be proclaimed by June 30, 2010.

Since the term of incumbent Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile will end on June 30, there will be no Senate President, who is third in the Constitutional order of succession. (There have been calls for Enrile to do the patriotic act of resigning as senate president so that someone whose term will end in 2013 could be elected senate president but he has refused.)
Meanwhile, there would be proclamation of winners in the local posts including members of the House of Representatives.

There have been reports of Gloria Arroyo subsidizing the campaign of a huge number of congressmen to make sure that she gets elected as speaker.

The speaker of the House is fourth in the line of succession.

No, no, no, to Gloria Arroyo beyond June 2010

70% oppose Cha-Cha to extend PGMA’s term;55% believe she is behind current Cha-Cha efforts

(Are you for or against a Charter Change that will allow President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to still be the chief official of the Philippines after June 30, 2010?).

The answer of 70 per cent was a resounding “No.”

SWS again asked if they believed “that Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is behind the current efforts to amend the Constitution in order to extend her term beyond 2010” (“na si Pang. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ang nasa likod ng kasalukuyang tangkang pagbabago ng Konstitusyon upang palawigin ang kanyang termino lagpas sa 2010”) and majority (55 percent) said “Yes”.

STUDENTS and young professionals led by the Movement of the Youth for Empowerment, Reform, Advocacy and Progress (myERAP), a group aligned with President Joseph Estrada, yesterday served a symbolic “notice of eviction” to President Arroyo near Malacañang.

‘Yan ang sinasabi ni Susan Roces na, “You stole the presidency not once but twice.”

SC junks petition vs constituent assembly

Breaking news:

by Tetch Torres
Inquirer.net

The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by two lawyers seeking to nullify House Resolution 1109 which seeks to convene lawmakers into a constituent assembly, even without the approval of the Senate.

In its ruling, the high court said the issue on the constituent assembly was premature and lacked a justiciable issue.

The petitioners – lawyer Oliver Lozano and his daughter, lawyer Evangeline Lozano – said HR 1109 was railroaded by the House of Representatives to extend the term of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo beyond 2010.

Gloria Arroyo and solons back to their junket

It was only during the trip to South Korea, scheduled at the time of the railroading of HR 1109, that Gloria Arroyo’s toadies (Palaka) didn’t enjoy their usual junket. Now, they have resumed the shameless looting of the Philippine government treasury.

Sixteen members of the House of Representatives and their spouses, children, and staff members, are joining President Arroyo’s official trips this month to Japan and Brazil, both countries with confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1).

Brazil has 52 confirmed cases while Japan has 549 as of June 12, according to the World Health Organization.

Arroyo is leaving tomorrow for the Japan visit which will last up to June 20. Her Brazil trip is from June 21 to 25.
