Ayun sa mga bituin

As always, “The Professional Heckler” is hilarious.

I consider this young guy the genius wit of this generation.

This horoscope for presidentiables has been going around the world through internet. In the passing frenzy, the author’s by line got deleted. He related that a relative sent this to him with a note, “Basahin mo ‘to ‘insan, nakakatawa!”

He replied, “’Insan, are u insane? Mas patawa ka! Sa aking blog nanggaling ‘yan! Tanga!”

Anyway, rather than be angered and frustrated by the lies and propaganda being spread around by candidates, enjoy with “The Professional Heckler” what he saw in the stars for the presidential candidates.

Ethical and effective

A visiting expert on citizen participation in governance, Dr. Lyle Wray, said two of the important traits that voters should look for in a leader are “ethical” and “effective.”

Immediately, what came to my mind were the top leading presidential candidates Benigno Aquino III and Manuel Villar.

(I believe the presidential contest will be between the two. Former President Estrada is a far third. Gilbert Teodoro is further down in fourth place. His numbers may be improving but the increase is miniscule, it is doubtful if he would be able to catch up.)

I believe Aquino is honest. He has no record of corruption. But there’s so much to be desired in terms of performance.

The best of Gloria Arroyo’s lot

Mendoza is now both DOTC and executive secretary

Same faces, no surprises.

Heeding the Supreme Court, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Wednesday replaced Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and at least five other Cabinet officials running for local posts in the May 10 national elections, Malacañang announced.

Ms Arroyo tapped Transportation Secretary Leandro Mendoza as her new executive secretary in a Cabinet revamp prompted by the Supreme Court ruling that appointive officials running for election were deemed resigned.

Ermita, 74, is seeking a seat in Congress in his Batangas hometown.

Press Secretary Crispulo Icban Jr. admitted that Ms Arroyo’s moves were prompted by the high court ruling that officials running for election were deemed resigned and should leave their posts effective March 2.

Nandun ngayon sina Alejano at Layug. Magkasama sila doon ni Marine Col. Ariel Querubin.

Only in Arroyo’s administration: cabinet members as “guests” in a cabinet meeting

by Regina Bengco
Malaya

Malapascua Island, Cebu. – President Arroyo had an innovative explanation for the presence of Cabinet officials seeking elective positions in May in last Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting in Palawan when she announced they were only there “as guests.”

Trade Secretary Peter Favila said Arroyo wanted to put on record that the concerned Cabinet officials are just “guests” to prevent any future legal question.

“She wasn’t laughing. Nobody laughed,” Tourism Secretary Joseph Durano said when asked if Arroyo made the announcement in jest.

Magdalo for Villar, but with conditions

by Ashzel Hachero
Malaya

Manny Villar, presidential candidate of the Nacionalista Party, and Manuel Roxas, vice presidential bet of the Liberal Party, have gotten the support of the Magdalo group which said it could deliver at least 250,000 votes.

The “price” of the support: He will not enter into an alliance with President Arroyo; and he will pursue the Magdalo advocacy on poverty alleviation, anti-corruption, peace in Mindanao, and reform and modernization of the Armed Forces.

A third condition, according to Acedillo, is for Villar to allow other detained Magdalo members to serve in government.

Asked to explain if the condition — “malayang makapagsilbi ulit sa gobyerno an gaming mga kasamahan sa pamumuno ng aming chairman a si Sen. (Antonio) Trillanes IV” — means they would seek amnesty for the detained Magdalo members, Acedillo noted the Magdalo members are still undergoing trial for coup and rebellion. He said they might move for amnesty in the next administration.

Parang thermometer yan. Pinapakita kung ano ang init sa loob.

Lim, Trillanes to remain in jail despite bail—AFP

From GMA News TV:

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and senatorial aspirant former Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim will remain in jail despite being allowed by a Makati court to post bail on a rebellion charge, the military said on Wednesday.

“The group of Senator Trillanes cannot be released until after the military has agreed already, because they are still facing general court martial,” said Armed Forces spokesman Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner Jr.

He said the two have pending cases before the military tribunal in connection with alleged attempts to overthrow the Arroyo government.

“Under the military law, there is no such thing as bail,” Brawner said.
