“Filipinos are worth dying for” is the most famous quotation from Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino who was shot dead last August 21, 1983. Ninoy is the most prominent anti-dictatorship victim of political killings and three years after his death the first people power dismantled the Marcos dictatorship that provides a democratic space in the Philippines.

Today more than twenty years have passed and almost all what Filipinos have gained in building a democratic society has been taken away by a new tyrant government under the current Arroyo regime. As of this day 717 Filipino journalists, lawyers, church people, activists and others who works for human rights were killed.

While Juris Soliman, chief of staff of Mike- Arroyo, was telling media that her boss and wife, Gloria, are lovey-dovey celebrating their 38th wedding anniversary last Wednesday, the combative Tulfo brothers – Ramon, Raffy, and Erwin – said in press conference that the woman Mike was romantically linked to is engaged in smuggling activities.

Mon , the eldest of the three who writes a column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, said that his exposés on the alleged smuggling activities of Vicky Toh and her brother, Tom, had the blessings of Gloria Arroyo.

This is fun.

May tinatagong kababalaghan

Malaki sigurong anomalya ang nakatago diyan sa pera sa OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Agency) kaya ayaw humarap ng mga opisyal sa imbestigasyon na ginagawa ng Senado sa committee na pinamumunuan ni Sen. Jinggoy Estrada at Sen. Richard Gordon tungkol sa paglikas ng ma namimiligro na Overseas Filipino Workers.

Ang alam natin, ilang milyon niyan ay ginamit para pambayad ng Philhealth cards na pinamudmud ni Gloria Arroyo noong 2004 elections. Mukhang may iba pang milagro kaya takot silang sumipot sa Senado. Baka nga naman mabuking.

Kasi kung wala silang kasalanan ay ginamit nila ng maayos ang pera, bakit takot humarap sa mga senador. Kung mayroon dyan mga senador na gusto lang mag-grandstanding, di supalpalin nila ng katotohanan. Ang problem lang ay kung marami ngang kababalaghan na nangyari sa P8 bilyon na pera ng mga OFW.

Harassing Josie

A case against former Transportation and Communications secretary Josie Lichauco dismissed by the Ombudsman eight years ago has been resurrected by the Supreme Court.

It’s strange. Could it have something to do with the fact that Josie Lichauco is in the forefront in the search for truth in the 2004 elections and justice for the Filipino people?

Lichauco, who has an unblemished record as a public servant, is one of the complainants in the second impeachment complaint against Arroyo.

Bawal magsabi ng totoo

Pinaggalitan si Ambassador Francis Al Bichara ng Department of Foreign Affairs dahil sinabi niya na kaya mabagal ang evacuation ng mga OFW mula Lebanon dahil kinukulang sila ng pera.

Siyempre magagalit talaga ang DFA at Malacañang dahil sinabi ito ni Bichara, isang araw matapos magyabang si Gloria Arroyo sa kanyang state-of-the nation address na “May pera na… may pera tayo”.

Itong pagmamayagpag ni Arroyo na “May pera tayo” ay kasama sa kanyang propaganda na magaling siyang pangulo kaya raw “may pera na tayo.”

Neri Colmenares, Codal convenor and spokesperson and Tonyo Cruz,media officer of Counsel for the Defense of Liberties bring to the public’s attention another disturbing trend as documented in FROM FACTS TO ACTION,(click here) a report of the International Fact-Finding Mission on Attacks Against Filipino Lawyers which was undertaken by the Dutch Lawyers for Lawyers Foundation and with the participation of Lawyers Without Borders and the International Association of Democratic Lawyers.

FROM FACTS TO ACTION documents the fact-finding mission’s attempt to
gather information on the murders of legal professionals in the
Philippines.

To date, 10 judges and 15 lawyers (including a law student) have been
slain since 2001. Many of them were human rights lawyers and public
interest barristers.

Itong tula ay gawa ni Bienvenido Lumbera, National Artist .

Binasa niya ito sa rally sa labas ng Batasan Pambansa habang ginu-glorya ni Gloria Arroyo ang taumbayan na pinalakpakan naman ng mga tsonggo sa Kongreso.

Tunay na National Artist si Bien dahil dama niya ang naramdaman ng taumbayan at hindi siya nangingiming ilabas sa pamamagitan ng kanyang pagsusulat. Siya ay isa sa mga nagsampa ng panglawang impeachment complaint laban kay Arroyo.
