‘Bayad-utang’ appointment feared at Navy

Gloria Arroyo owes her presidency to the men and women who cheated for her in the 2004 election as well as those who obstructed justice to cover-up for her crime. It’s payback time forever.

The following story by Victor Reyes is in today’s issue of Malaya:

THE Navy was rocked yesterday by a wave of text messages saying that an unqualified officer who was linked to the “Hello Garci” tapes would succeed flag-officer-in-command Vice Adm. Mateo Mayuga when the latter retires tomorrow.

The perceived “bayad-utang” appointment of Vice Adm. Tirso Danga, chief of the AFP’s Western Command, prompted Mayuga to appeal to men under his command to respect the choice, whoever he may be, of President Arroyo.

From the raging crowd

The shameless majority in the House of Representatives, personified by Jose de Venecia, Luis Villafuerte, Edcel Lagman, Prospero Pichay, Prospero Nograles and Constantino Jaraula, got their way to have a Senate-less Constituent Assembly starting on Monday to amend the Constitution so that they will remain in power as long as they want, even if the people are sick and tired of them.

We asked some of the gallant majority, who, although few in numbers, give us hope that all is not lost in this country, whether they will participate in the farce that will be played out next week.

Rep. Roilo Golez (Parañaque) said, they still have to decide. “As of now, we are inclined to participate to block their effort and reveal flaws in the process.”

House OKs con-ass resolution

What can I say, but pray that this unconciousnable rape of democracy will finally wake the Filipino nation up.

On Monday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. Congress sitting as a joint assembly
would convene at the plenary hall of the House of Representatives to start the process of proposing amendments to the 1987 Constitution.

Cha-cha advocates hail this as their best Christmas gift to Gloria Arroyo.

Knowing that she is behind this assault on the Constitution (son Mikey and brother-in law Iggy are part of the gang) what comes to mind is a Filipino saying, “Kumuha ng bato, pamukpok sa ulo” (Got a stone to bang her head with). That’s more like it to me.

Here’s ABS-CBN’s update:

JDV does not have the numbers; changes rules again

It looks like that Jose de Venecia does not have the 195 congressmen or three-fourths of Congress to railroad the convening of the Constituent Assembly.

They now introduced a new resolution (HR1450)that does not mention Constituent Assembly but merely to convene to accept proposals. Rep. Edcel Lagman said they would only need only a simple majority votes, which is only 117.

Rep. Roilo Golez (anti Cha-Cha) and Teddy Locsin (pro Cha-Cha) dared to push for voting if it’s three-fourths of Congress.

The presiding officer, Deputy Speaker Raul del Mar , of Cebu City tried to avoid the issue. Now, he just said, he is taking the position of Lagman that they need only a simple majority.

Talagang bastusan na. Malaya’s update on JDV’s Con-Ass Express.

Paving way for cheaper drugs

In my credit card bills, my purchases can be classified into just two categories: supermarket and Mercury Drug.

Such is life in this country for many of us who do not belong to the privileged 30 percent of this country. Whatever money we earn goes to food and other basic needs and medicines.

That’s why I welcome the agreement signed by Interphil and the Philippine International Trading Corp. (PITC) for the former to process essential generic pharmaceutical products using formulations and active ingredients provided by the latter.

Midnight Madness

At this very moment, a few minutes past midnight, the majority of members of the House of Representatives are trying to railroad the convening of the Constituent Assembly without the participation of the Senate.

I just came from the Batasan where 161 congressmen voted for the deletion of the sentence, “The adoption of resolutions proposing amendments to or revision of the Constiution shall follow the procedure for the enactment of bills.” in Section 105 of their own Rules.

There were only 25 opposition congressmen who voted “No.” (Click here for news report)
