GO on order to stop media count: unconstitutional

Statement of Adel Tamano, Genuine Opposition spokesman, on the order of the Comelec to stop media count (click here for the story):

The Comelec order to stop the quick counts is an unconstitutional infringement on press freedom and the public’s right to information. Moreover, Chairman Abalos’ statement that the TV networks could report votes but not collate the votes is plainly illogical.

Vote collation involves simple arithmetic and is merely a synthesis of the votes that Chairman Abalos admits the press can report on. Furthermore, since the quick counts have been historically accurate and permitted inthe past, then why prohibit them now?

Ermita doubts Senate seat for Trillanes

Malacañang must have realized by now that it would be difficult to shave Antonio Trillanes IV of the Genuine Opposition off the Magic 12. They will still do it, no doubt but Trillanes’ supporters are ready.

Taken aback by Trillanes’ victory, Malacañang’s next move is not to allow him to assume the Senate seat physically. Click here for story in Abs-CBN online.

Lt. Senior Grade Antonio Trillanes, detained for coup d’etat charges, may be in the top 12 of leading senatorial candidates but might not be able to physically take his place as a senator should he win because of a string of cases pending before military and civilian courts.

Nasaan na si Joselito?

Joselito Cayetano replies to Alan Cayetano.

Post-election statement of Kapatiran’s Martin Bautista

The election is over. It is time to examine, and to both skeptics and sympathizers alike, explain my participation in it.

I gave up a flourishing medical practice in America, joined Kapatiran and ran for the Senate because I wanted not merely to prove a point, but to live by it.

And the point is this: we can change our country, help our people, not by talking or theorizing but by actually doing something about it. One cannot simply make a statement. He must apply it in his life, by example, by involvement, by action. Our political campaign was such a statement.
