“THE LAW APPLIES TO ALL OTHERWISE NONE AT ALL” is a famous line from an American President adopted by Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim while still in the active service as a police officer. The phrase amply describes the application of the law in a democratic society such as ours. In the preservation of democracy, many of our country’s finest men and women, from Lapu-lapu to our latest battle casualties, have laid their lives for our country.
Senators are taking with caution the testimony last Tuesday of ZTE technical consultant Dante Madriaga that President Arroyo and her husband Mike received “advances” from China’s ZTE Corp for the national broadband project.
Senate President Manuel Villar said they are double checking Madriaga’s testimony amid fears that he could be a “red herring.”
Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Madriaga’s statements would have to be corroborated by other evidence and testimonies.
Dahil sa hindi nanawagan ang mga obispo sa pag-resign ni Gloria Arroyo, lalong titindi na ang pagpatalsik sa kanya dahil alam na ng taumbayan na wala silang maa-asahan kungdi sarili nila.
Dahil sa mabait sa kanya ang mga obispo, siguradong lalakas ang loob ni Arroyo na kumapit sa kanyang ninakaw na pwesto at lalong magiging mayabang ang kanyang mga tauhan. Siyempre may kakampi silang CBCP (Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines) kahit sabihin pang hati sila.
Hindi na ngayon maiwasan ang dahas sa pagpatalsik kay Arroyo. At iyon ay dahat dalhin ng kunsyensya ng mga obispo.

I had to leave the Senate investigation on the NBN/ZTE early for other meetings so I missed the testimony of Dante Madriaga who designed the telecommunication project for ZTE. Madriaga belonged to the “Filipino Consultants Group” headed by former Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos and allegedly included Mike Arroyo,the husband of Gloria Arroyo.
My friends told me that Madriaga mentioned me in relation to reports that he was peddling his testimony for a price ranging from P5 million to P10 million.
At the time I got the copy of the initial draft of his affidavit, I had not met Madriaga but I had counterchecked the information contained there. When I learned that someone was trying to sell the Madriaga affidavit, I decided to publish it precisely to stop them from making money out of it.

The statement by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, issued after a 10-hour emergency meeting, was a small victory for Mrs Arroyo’s efforts to serve out the last two years of her term amid widespread calls for her to step down.
