Noynoy:enabler or suppressor of the new politics

by Nicanor Perlas

In the past few days, I have been bombarded with text messages from friends as well as interviews with the media on what I think of the Mar-Noynoy announcements. Will I, like Senator Mar Roxas, also renounce my intention to run as a presidential candidate in the 2010 national elections and support the presidential candidacy of Senator Noynoy Aquino?

The short answer is “No”. I will not renounce my intention to run as a presidential candidate. And “Yes”, I will encourage Noynoy to resign from the Liberal Party, run as an independent presidential candidate, and join the on-going conversation and unification efforts among non-traditional political parties and movements.

Noynoy can stifle the growth of new politics. Or he can enable the new politics that is emerging all throughout the country. Allow me to elaborate.

Malacañang to Chavit: behave

Gloria Arroyo’s deputy national security adviser beat his common-law wife and her boyfriend and all she could say is “Behave.

From ABS-CBN Online

The Office of the President on Friday advised deputy National Security Adviser Luis Singson to “behave” and submit himself to due process after his common-law wife, Rachel ‘Che’ Tiongson, disclosed on Thursday the physical abuse she suffered at the hands of Singson.

“Our advise to Singson is to behave accordingly as an upright citizen and submit himself to due process of the law,” said Press Secretary Cerge Remonde.

Remonde said he was not aware if President Arroyo’s deputy national security adviser used government resources to spy on Tiongson.

In all the interviews with Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo on his property in San Francisco in the United States which is not included in his 2007 and 2008 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth, he claimed that VERA Files that did the story, never asked for his side.

He also said, “Unfortunately, either the writer or writers deliberately imposed a malicious twist on the story or they lack knowledge on the legal aspects regarding corporations.”

Country Above Self

Mar Roxas2 by Senator Mar Roxas

Country above self. Bayan bago ang sarili.Iyan ang habilin ng aking lolo, President Manuel Roxas.

Our nation is in trouble. Leadership is bankrupt. Institutions are in disarray. People are hungry.

Noynoy Aquino and I share the same outrage over the mess we are all in, the same way we share solution – clean, honest, selfless public service.

Marami at matindi and nga problem ng bansa. Kailangan nating ayusin. Matindi ang kalaban. We need a determined force for good far stroinger than the festering evil around us.

We need to fight just as our own fathers fought dictatorship, and just as both died believing that good will conquer evil.

ABS-CBN late night news Sunday quoted Mikey as saying he declared the San Francisco Bay Area property in his SALN but was waiting for his lawyer to return from Canada before he would issue an official statement.

I declare everything I own—Mikey Arroyo

Pampanga Representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo on Monday refuted reports of irregularities in his statement of assets liabilities and net worth (SALN), calling them “malicious” and waste of his time.

“I have always been transparent with my SALN ever since I entered public office. I have declared everything I own there. It is self-explanatory,” said Arroyo, eldest son of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in a statement.
