From his detention cell, Army Captain Dante Langkit is running for governor of Kalinga challenging well-entrenched politicians in the province.
A native of Kalinga Province, Langkit grew up in Poblacion Taga in the municipality of Pinukpuk. Born on October 1, 1971, Dante is the eldest among the four sons and three daughters of Esteban Linggayo Langkit and Gennette Balicao Dasayon.
Because of the then prevailing insurgency and tribal wars, Captain Langkit spent his elementary and high school studies in several government and private schools. He took his preparatory and elementary education at Bulanao Northern Elementary School and Pinukpuk Central School where he graduated Valedictorian. His high school days were spent at St. Williams Academy and St Theresita’s High School where he graduated with honors.
Former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) has edged out Manuel Villar, Jr. of the Nacionalista Party (NP)in the number two position in the May 10 presidential race in a survey conducted by the Magdalo, a group of reformist junior military officers .
The survey conducted from April 19 to 24 among 3,000 respondents nationwide showed Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino of the Liberal Party leading the race with 39.6 percent followed by Estrada with 24.8 percent and Villar with 23.6 percent.
This is the first survey that showed Estrada having overtaken Villar. Pulse Asia’s survey conducted April 23 to 25 among 1,800 respondents nationwide showed Villar and Estrada tied in second place with 20 percent each.

JJ Domingo, a 20-year old student of international relations, relates in his Facebook wall the harrowing experience of his mother in the hands of people who introduced themselves as members of the Quezon City police.
JJ , who is now in Japan with his mother, said he has emailed this narration to the Philippine National Police and to the Napolcom. So far, he has not received any response.
He is also sending it to the Commission on Human Rights.
Here his story about what he said was the “arbitrary detention and extortion” of his mother by men who are supposed to protect her from lawless elements:

Aquino Says Philippine Poll Fraud May Trigger Turmoil

The 50-year-old son of former president Corazon Aquino, who has led opinion surveys since entering the race last year, criticized how a switch to electronic voting machines is being implemented and said a declaration that he is the loser of the May 10 poll would bring supporters on to the streets.
“If we have a correct counting of the votes, I think we will be very victorious,” said Aquino, whose mother toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos amid protests that followed a rigged election in 1986. If “the people’s will is frustrated,” demonstrations could make this month’s protests in Thailand seem “mild” by comparison, he said in an interview in Manila yesterday.
Aquino, known as “Noynoy,” claims his closest rival, property tycoon and Senator Manuel Villar, is secretly backed by outgoing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and has accused both of corruption. A contested election result might disrupt efforts to tackle a record budget deficit, reduce Asia’s third-highest unemployment rate and increase foreign investment.

“Mayor Jerry Trenas, who is running for congressman, and Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog, who is running for mayor, have formed an alliance with only the two of them as common candidates. Trenas supports the Nacionalista Party (NP) for the national positions while Mabilog is with the Liberal Party (LP).
