Marcos unsure he has numbers in Senate for Duterte impeachment

What’s the game our top political leaders are playing on us?

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed on Friday that he had sent a “private communication” to members of the House of Representatives to “not file impeachment complaints” against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Earlier in the day, the vice president didn’t show up at the National Bureau of Investigation which subpoenaed her for her public disclosure that she has hired a killer to assassinate the president, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were killed.

Zubiri’s misinformation proof of Pulse Asia survey on ‘fake news’

Senate President Migz Zubiri with Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian.

Pulse Asia’s recent survey on “fake news,” which showed that the majority of Filipinos are confident in their ability to tell whether a political news is true or not, indicates their naivety about the tangled web that is social media.

In its nationwide survey conducted from Sept. 17 to 21 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 sample representatives of the population, Pulse Asia asked, “How confident are you in the ability of Filipinos to detect whether news about government and politics they have heard, read, or watched is truthful or false?”

Fifty-five percent said “confident.” Of the 55%, 8% said they were “very confident” while 47% said “somewhat confident.” Thirty-seven percent were unsure.

‘Tampuhan’ hints friendship so deep between Duterte and Quiboloy

Only ten days that Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and incoming President Rodrigo Duterte haven’t talked with each other and the “Son of God” is already hurting.

Sharing with media the Pastor’s hurt feeling, Quiboloy’s spokesperson, Mike Abe, said the last face-to-face meeting of the two was at 3 a.m. of May 10, several hours after it became certain that Duterte had won the May 9 election. Duterte was interviewed at Quiboloy’s Sunshine Media Network International.

Abe said the two even shared a hug, before the winning presidential candidate left.

After that, Abe said Duterte has become inaccessible to the Pastor anymore.

A good list to choose from for next batch of senators

Leila de Lima and Ping Lacson
Leila de Lima and Ping Lacson
Filipinos just love elections.

A total of 130 have filed certificates of candidacy for president in the May 2016 elections and 19 for vice president.
There are 172 who are vying for the 12 slots in the Senate.

The five reelectionist senators – Franklin Drilon, Ralph Recto, Teofisto Guingona III, Sergio Osmeña III, Vicente Sotto III- have an edge being familiar names and having an established nationwide machinery. Unless something terribly awful happens that would involve them in controversy before the elections, they are expected to be in the Magic 12.

There are four former senators who want to return to the Senate and they also enjoy an advantage in terms of name recall. They are Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Richard Gordon, Francis Pangilinan, and Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Aquino for Binay for president in 2016?

Aquino and Binay Cagayan de Oro March 23, 2011There’s a compelling reason for President Aquino to make sure that that he would be able to influence the people’s choice of his successor otherwise he would suffer the same fate that befell the two presidents before him.

His predecessor, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, is in jail – hospital arrest, actually- facing plunder and electoral sabotage charges.
Arroyo’s predecessor, Joseph Estrada, spent six years in detention- much of it under house arrest – for plunder. Convicted, he was later pardoned. He nearly made a comeback as president in 2010, placing second to Aquino. He is now mayor of the city of Manila.

Surely, Aquino knows that in his position, it’s not a matter of good intentions as his “Tuwid na Daan” slogan trumpets. As president, he makes decisions, sometimes resorting to legal brinkmanship. Example is the Disbursement Acceleration Program, the legality of which is being questioned in the Supreme Court.

Ugly

This Mar Roxas-Alfred Romualdez fight is ugly.

As ugly as the Juan Ponce-Enrile-Miriam Defensor-Santiago battle.

At the hearing of the congressional oversight committee on the Philippine Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 last Monday, a tearful Romualdez related how, he claimed, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas tried to marginalize him in the relief and recovery efforts for the Yolanda-devastated city.

He said Roxas asked him for an ordinance allowing the national government to undertake relief and rescue operations in Tacloban to “legalize everything” or a letter stating that he could no longer function as mayor.

The enviable Akbayan

Gutierrez and Crisostomo on GMA News
In his verbal sparring with Anakbayan’s Vencer Crisostomo at ANC last week, Barry Gutierrez, undersecretary for political affairs in the Office of the President, exuded the smugness of people who are well-entrenched in the center of power. Nakasandal sa pader.

He said there are many Akbayan members who are holding high positions in the Aquino government because they supported Benigno Aquino III in the 2010 elections. Sorry na lang with Bayan Muna and its affiliate organizations like Anakbayan because they supported Manny Villar.

Yes, to the victors belong the spoils.

Senatorial aspirants can’t resist opportunity in other people’s misery

Valuable political exposure 1

This picture of President Aquino’s visit to Barangay Tunasan in Muntinlupa accompanied by Liberal Party 2013 senatorial aspirants is generating controversy in social media. Among those with Aquino were Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, Customs Commissioner Ruffy Biazon, former sectoral Rep.Riza Hontiveros, TESDA Administrator Joel Villanueva, and Aurora Rep.Sonny Angara.

Some comments:

Mae Paner: Siguro mas okay na di kayo ma expose na ganito kasi we cannot afford you guys, esp our president PNoy sick. Ang perception pag w Kris, wannabee senatoriables, Mar, tapos open truck, parang nangangampanya! So i guess you are hitting two birds w one stone? Tulong sa kalamidad sabay kampanya na rin? Di ba kung hiwa-huwalay na lakad mas maraming area na matutulungan at mako-cover?

Is Gloria Arroyo’s SanFo trip connected with resignation of Merci?

At about the time I learned that Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez resigned (noon of April 29, 2011), a friend texted that Gloria Arroyo and members opf her family arrived in San Francisco,U.S.A.

“They didn’t have any luggage ,“ the informant said adding that “Many Pinoys saw them at the airport, including Pinoy waiter at Mcdo who just texted.“
The informant added his own analysis of what he saw : “They fled to avoid arrest when they knew that knew their protector was about to resign.“

Sen Antonio Trillanes IV issued a statement on the resignation of Gutierrez from Boracay where he is attending a wedding of a Magdalo officer :“It’s a relief for everyone, including herself.“

He said,“Also we can revert back to our normal legislative schedule in the Senate so that we can tackle the more important legislative matters.“
