Behind the blogs

Today’s Sunday Inquirer is on Pinoy blogosphere. This blog together with my favorite blog, The Professional Heckler, were featured in Fe Zamora’s article,“Behind the Blogs.”

Heckling is a serious business best practiced only by professionals. Like Marcelo “Loi” Reyes Landicho, the man behind the irreverent Professional Heckler, who has been poking fun at politicians, celebrities and everyone else who gets in his line of fire.

Example is this blog posted one day in May 2010.

And the No.1 birthday message left on Sen. Mar Roxas’ answering machine…

“Hi Marrrrrrrrrr! This is Krissy! Gosh! It’s your birthday pala today! I almost forgot. Mabuti na lang, Tito Jojo Binay reminded me about it over dinner last night! Gosh, this is so embarrassing! Forgetful na talaga ang lola mo, pasensya na! Anyway, happy, happy birthday and I sincerely wish na ma-enjoy mo ang ‘yong pagiging ordinary citizen. Pakisabi kay Tita Koring, I miss her. Well, slight. Gosh! She won’t be Second Lady nga pala noh? How saaaaad! Bye, bye for now! I need to go. Oh my! Baby James, ano ba! ’Wag mong dilaan ’yang Villar bracelet. That’s dirty! Gosh this kid”

Tweets are forever

To control the damage wrought by her tactless tweets, Mai Mislang, President Aquino’s trusted speechwriter, has removed her twitter and facebook accounts.

President Aquino took note of that in defending her. He said, “Upon realization, she had tried to correct what she did wrong.”

Unfortunately, in the wild, wild cyberspace, once you post something it stays there forever. IT expert Victoria Gaerlan sent me the tweets that Mislang had taken down.

Meanwhile, someone also directed me to the photos by Bob Guerrero of Mislang performing with her rockband, Blue rats. Guerrero has given me permission to use these photos. He just asked to link the post to bhobg.multiply.com and http://www.flickr.com/photos/bhobg.

Here are the photos. Click to view them enlarged:

Gaerlan said those who think that because they post on twitter, it will stay on just with their followers in twitter are mistaken. She said there is such thing as syndication:”It blasts your tweet to several other sites and it does NOT get deleted even if you delete your original tweet. Why? Because when content is syndicated in another site, it gets stored on that other site’s database.”

Here are some of the tweets that Gaerlan recovered from http://maimislang.tweetboard.com:

Maria Ressa leaves ABS-CBN

Statement of Maria Ressa on her leaving ABS-CBN released by Bong R. Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communication

Brought to higher level Philippine broadcasting
There is a time and place for everything in our lives. My time and place as head of ABS-CBN News & Current Affairs is nearing its end.

My contract ends on Jan. 3, 2011, and I will not be renewing. I have nearly six months of accumulated leaves so I will go on terminal leave beginning Nov. 15.

It’s time for me to move on, but it’s important we transition properly and prepare our organization – and its new leader – for the challenges ahead.

Ging Reyes will be taking over as news head. She will be arriving in Manila on Oct. 18 to begin our transition. Home-grown ABS-CBN, she has more than twenty years experience as a journalist, the last eight years as North America bureau chief.

Please give her your full support as she takes the helm of our multi-platform operations.

I want to thank you for six amazing, incredible years where we took risks together to help define the future of journalism and our nation.

De Lima: 10 officials, cops, media liable

By Nikko Dizon
Philippine Daily Inquirer

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima Thursday ruled out friendly fire in the killing of eight Hong Kong tourists but recommended charges against 10 officials, police and media people in the bungled hostage rescue last month.

De Lima did not identify those accountable for the Aug. 23 fiasco or the charges to be leveled against them in the report, which she said was “95 percent” complete. The fact-finding committee will submit its report to President Benigno Aquino III on Friday.

De Lima described the report as “very exhaustive, fact-intensive, and incisive.”

Transcript of President Aquino’s interview with three TV anchors

Gleaning from this interview, do you still believe heads will roll aside from probably Gen. Rodolfo Magtibay?

Click here for GMA-7’s video of the interview.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today marks one year since the President declared his candidacy. We have traveled far since then. This afternoon, for the first time, the President engages the three major networks on the August 23 tragedy, no holds barred. The order in which they will ask questions has been determined by the drawing of lots. There will be one question and one follow-up question for each panelist. Joining us are Ms. Mel Tiangco, anchor of GMA 7’s “24 ORAS”; Mr. Ted Failon, anchor of ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol”, and Mr. Paolo Bediones, anchor of TV 5’s “Aksyon”. Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the Philippines.

P-NOY: Mel, Ted, Paolo, good afternoon. I would like to thank TV 5, ABS-CBN and the GMA network, and all our friends in the media for agreeing to this one of a kind panel discussion. As you know, in the wake of the hostage crisis at the Quirino Grandstand, your government has launched an independent and transparent investigation into the events of August 23. I am confident that the results of the investigation will be fair, impartial and thorough. We have also begun efforts to improve the capability of our police forces to better handle situations like this should they arise again in the future. We are also examining our internal processes and crisis management protocols to see how they can be improved.

ABS-CBN update: Quisumbing says sorry to media

Kaya nagtaray. Click on this site. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/video/nation/08/20/10/chr-commissioner-coco-goes-loco#ooid=ZwdnZuMTr9BqVNywApk_PWoISyqPS95D

Iba’t ibang klaseng torture

Manny Pangilinan buys into Inquirer

Pangilinan is into real estate development (The Fort), telecommunications, power (Meralco), and what else? He is slowly becoming a force in media, another field of influence.

ABC5 buys 10% stake in PDI

The Philippine Daily Inquirer announces that after two decades of productive partnership with the (Ben) Pangilinan and Garcia families, they have decided to sell their equity in the company.
