From ABS-CBN Online:Luli says past drug habit taking toll on JDV III

luli.JPGPresident Arroyo’s only daughter assailed whistleblower Jose “Joey” de Venecia III for linking her father to the controversial contract involving the Philippine government’s national broadband network deal and China’s ZTE Corporation, ABS-CBN News reported Wednesday.

Evangeline Lourdes “Luli” Arroyo said that de Venecia, whom she said was a former drug user, could still be experiencing the effects of substance abuse.

Anomalous ZTE contract continues to unravel

Let’s watch closely the unraveling of the ZTE conspiracy. I will only believe that there is justice in this country if the real big fishes, who are Gloria Arroyo and her husband, and their co-conspirators are dumped in jail.

Update:

Joey de Venecia: Abalos bugged me

That means the military was again used by Gloria Arroyo for another crime of monumental plunder. That’s why you have Arroyo invoking the “secrecy” of the military. Secrecy in the crime against the Filipino people.

SC freezes $329M broadband deal

The Supreme Court en banc yesterday issued a temporary restraining order on the $329 million National Broadband Network project which the Department of Transportation and Communications entered into with the Chinese firm ZTE Corporation.

The high court granted the consolidated petitions of Iloilo Vice Gov. Rolex Suplico and Amsterdam Holdings Inc. (AHI) pending its decision on Suplico’s prayer to declare the broadband contract as unconstitutional.

A Growing Culture of Impunity

(Joint statement of Makati Business Club,Management Association of the Philippines,

We are appalled that the culture of impunity among certain government officials appears to have spread to an extent exceeding that of all past administrations. This impunity seems also increasingly evident in many agencies of government.

A glaring example is that of COMELEC Chairman Benjamin Abalos who had no business in allowing himself to be entertained by officials of ZTE Corporation, a potential contractor of the Republic, particularly considering he had an important electoral exercise to administer. His indiscreet conduct and absence from his official duties could only have happened if he believed he was immune from sanctions. We therefore reiterate our call for Chairman Abalos to resign.
