Statement of senatorial candidate Antonio F. Trillanes IV

During the past several days, I’ve been the target of verbal attacks by some officials and candidates of this administration. While I expected this type of gutter politics from them, I was hoping that they were at least man enough to let me address their attacks squarely by not opposing my court motion to be allowed access to media. I want a fair fight.

For that matter, I hearby challenge candidate Joker Arroyo to a debate on resolutions to our country’s problems. I am not a debater myself, but I believe this is a way of “elevating the level of election campaigning” to where it ought to be. May the candidate with the better prescriptions win.

If you are up to the challenge then let us immediately make the necessary arrangements. If not, then keep your “trapo” ways to yourself because it is a disservice to the electorate.

First the attempted expulsion from the House of Representatives. It failed. Next, fielding a nuisance candidate registering his name as Joselito “Peter” Cayetano. Now, it’s Alan’s citizenship.

All these can be linked to senatorial candidate Alan Peter Cayetano’s courage to bring to public attention the information about a multi- billion dollar in a German bank that could possibly be traced to the Arroyos.

It sounds crass but senatorial candidate Edgardo Angara says it is true.

Despite drifting to the “Dark Side” at some point in their lives, they’ve kept a good deal of the “Force” inside them—in the form of defending human rights. No campaign poster was allowed inside the Philippine Military Academy in Fort del Pilar in Baguio City Saturday and politicians adopted by different PMA class were not around during its alumni homecoming but the event still did not escape politics.

ABS-CBN News reported that guest speaker and re-electionist Senate President Manuel Villar took the occasion to hit the Arroyo administration in its alleged railroading of Charter change.

In his speech, Villar scored allies of President Arroyo for their alleged efforts to hastily amend the 1987 Constitution without going through the proper procedures.
