Boxing champ Manny Pacquiao today said he is determined to enter politics in this coming May elections.
Pacquiao will contest the congressional seat currently held by Darlene Antonino-Custodio in the first district of South Cotabato.
Update: Custodio unfazed by Pacquiao’s planned candidacy.
The 24-year old Custodio has made a mark in the House of Representatives for actively participating in the impeachment complaints against Gloria Arroyo and in opposing the Con-Ass railroaded by the House majority last December.

Last week Pacquiao took his oath as member of Liberal Party, Atienza wing.
Earlier,Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos said Pacquiao has to transfer his registration from Manila to General Santos City for him to seek an elective position there. The law requires a voter to register in a place he would be voting six months before election day. Registration of voters ended Dec. 31, 2006.
A candidate is required to establish one year residency in a place where he would be seeking an elective position.

The race is on. Like me, there are also those who do not like the complete 12-man Senatoriables of the Opposition. I still question the likes of Villar & Pangilinan. I get this feeling they may be the Trojan Horse. But, when I flip the other side of the coin, I also know that there are compromises to be made even in winning.
I will vote of AT LEAST 8 of the Opposition candidates because if 8 win, the Opposition will control the Senate. I want the Opposition to win because I want the power returned to the people & I am against the abolition of the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines.

According to their Campaign Manager, Reli German, their campaign strategy in the field is to hold small meetings only with the local officials. And only one selected senatorial candidate per area will speak for the other eleven. And they will not have Gloria campaigning with them in the provinces. Only sa mga miting de avances daw. Gloria daw prefers to focus on just governing. Tell that to the Marines.
And they’re so scared of UNO’s spokesman Adel Tamano that they chose Tourism Secretary Ace Durano to be their spokesman. To match Adel’s appeal? Hah. If I were newcomer Adel, I’d be flattered. He’s stepping in politics pre-maturely at the height of his boxing career, where he could make millions of dollars honorably and honestly. Now, he’d rather take an easy out of making millions on promises, by known liars of Malacanang, a mutineer herself without honor. Bad choice!

Maybe I can say this now..the evening after the 2004 Presidential elections, I remember going to the HQ of Gloria where Gabby Claudio was stationed. When my hubby & I entered, I still remember distincly, he shook my hubby’s hand & said, “Sir, mananalo po tayo by 1M..” I actually was amazed & thought to myself, “Wow! our counting machines are really fast na.” Only to find out that Gloria’s camp already knew the outcome before counting ! That was the beginning of the end of my support for the Rat (Gloria) ! Several months after, I left the country & my hubby resigned from gov’t. We now travel back & forth.
Siguro you read what happened to Manny Pacquiao before he fought Morales the last time. He signed a contract with Oscar de la Hoya without consulting his current managers and in the absence of his lawyers. Tapos, nang sabihin sa kanya ng kanyang handlers na he is stil has a live contract with another group, kamuntik na siyang ma-breach of contract. Mabuti hindi na itinuloy ni dela Hoya.
The pundits were one in saying that MoneyPak being non-schooled, madali siyang mauto-uto. Ganyan ang nangyari sa kanya ngayon. I think about a dozen of our known columnists warned him to stay out of politics if he would like to stay as a champion.
My reading is he considered himself unbeatable, una, dahil sa kanyang kasikatan at ikalawa, dahil mayroon siyang pera to sustain a campaign. Hindi rin siya nakontento sa mga paghanga at papuring nang tinanggap.

The Pidals actually know Pacman cannot win unless he puts all his millions to the Pidal election campaigns to prop up even the other candidates that Madame Burot has invited to join her bandwagon with a promise of at least a hundred thousand pesos. Oreta and Sotto are reportedly getting more as the Burot thinks that they have a clout over the supporters of the Opposition team still.
One does not have to be a genius to know that Pacman is actually being made a milking cow here especially when we all know that the Madame Burot in fact has even wanted a Constitution barring all non-collegiate candidates from running. Pacman does not even have a grade school diploma for that matter.
This Pacman admitted in an interview with a Japanese boxing promoter when he came to Tokyo a year a half ago. He said his US promoter was encouraging him to get a high school certificate but he actually had to make sure first to get an elementary school diploma!
And he knows his limits as a matter of fact, but he must have been pushed to his limits and the air must have gone to his brains to think that he can huddle the grave and serious responsibilities of being a representative of his district in Congress with his millions after seeing the example of Iggy Pidal who does nothing but play fiddle to his brother Mike, and do chorus with his brother and nephew when they sang “P—ina mo, Cayetano!”

I majored in history as a matter of fact, but I’m learning more from the interviews I translate for documentaries on historical events in the Philippines especially in connection with Japan than from the silly books copied from some reports submitted to the US government at the turn of the 20th century when the US embarked on its imperialistic adventure.
One such interview was the one done with members of the guerrilla movement in WWII that I understand Chiz Escudero’s grandfather played a major role. He organized his fellow soldiers and founded the guerrilla movement in the Philippines.
No, the Japanese TV crew did not interview any of the Escuderos. The information came from the dying members of the WWII guerrilla movement who are not being paid well for services to their country.

Iyan din ang sabi ng father-in-law ko, Soleil. Tama naman kasi kahit na naghirap ang family ng biyenan ko at the turn of the 20th century nang i-abolish ang Samurai class, pero may bearing. Bilib ako kasi pino pati ang language.
I consider myself lucky because I actually found a lost relative and was able to get proper training. What I would not celebrate after learning of his triumph is the sight of those politicos savoring the victory of their kababayan as their own. As certain as the dawn, after Manny had landed, they cling to him like leaches, suckers.
Just like during Roman times, poverty, misery, and social injustice are slightly put aside by entertaining the poor masses.
The masses (and the nation at that) are much mesmerized by the victory of Manny over his most formidable foe todate. And the politicos uses this victory of a man amidst all the pain and sacrifices to mis-inspire the people.
Let’s not forget that Manny hails from a poverty stricken family. Amidst all that, he trains hard, sacrifice, endure all the pains to get into where is now. What he have gone thru is very inspiring no question about it. He hails fom a place where most boys aspire to become a professional boxer someday to rake in the monies the sports would bring to them like Manny. But Manny is an exception rather than the rule, he has talents and skills to be a Champ.
Boys would follow and be inspired by Manny to uplift themselves from grinding poverty. How many of them would be Manny in their own time?
When the powerful elite said let’s be inspired by Manny to give honor to our country and to uplift one’self from poverty by perseverance and hard work, they must be talking about the justification of poverty and misery of our country and most of all, they are actually spitting on Manny’s face.
Manny, at this times is the idol and aspiration of the poor masses, they all came from the same class, poor masses. Manny represents poor man’s struggle to survive in the world of inequalities and lack of oppurtunities. The politicos are using him because he can be identified with the millions of the poor (read: voters). Why don’t they say let’s give honor to Cecil Licad or to our scientist who are also bringing honors to our country by sheer hard work and training?
Manny is a Gladiator of our time, an idol, an aspiration for the poor. He is also the escape goat for politicians and the elite that amidst poverty (povety that the elites they temselves perpetuates) one can be triumphant. Have you seen an Atenista or La Sallite aspires to be a boxer? Or have you heard someone from the middle class who wants to be pounced, beaten on the way to financial success (literally at that)?
It is Manny now, who will be then next time?
It’s not wrong at any sense to be inspired by Manny, or give honors to him, it is due to him, for all it’s worth.
What is wrong with it is that just like the gladiators, all of them just wants to be free, it is from bondage then, it is from poverty now. Which we the middle class together with the ruling class put them (the Gladiators, Manny in this case) into spectacle to entertain ourselves and the toiling masses to forget our own time’s misery, inequity, social injustice and most of all abject poverty.

Any which way I look at this, Pacman is viewed as an “asset” to propagate more illegal activities such as jueteng etc. Sabit Swingson does this, he marries any of his family member to another powerful family some place and then he rules through them. This is the same thing with the Pidals. It does not matter to these crooks whether Pacman can author and pass a bill. What matters is they can use him for their illegal activities. Since Pacman is so naive(or bordering Idiot) he is their perfect prey. These vultures will make sure that Pacman wins so they can perpetuate their sinister plot of expanding their gambling empire. He is not being elected to represent the people. He is pushed into this candidacy to ride on his popularity to the masses. It is a little too late for this blog to warn Pacman of the pitfalls of being in politics when you are amongst very learned lawmakers. He will be shocked to the point of maybe not even wanting to go to work as he will not be able to comprehend any of the bills being passed, unless of course he has a translator like Yuko who will be under his employ at all times. To Pacman, my condolences!

I have 2 sisters lving in Gensan. One tried to enter politics in the early ’90’s. Nadala sa prodding ng mga kasama sa Charismatic. Namanang kayamanan sa namatay na asawa, iginasta sa election, talo pa rin. Ngayon back to the basics sila ng kanyang mga anak! But my sister loves politics. Thanks, Zenzennai. I actually first heard of Gensan when I did a translation of a sensational news on the spotting of some Japanese stragglers there that turned out to be a hoax. It did not say Cotabato so I assumed it was Misamis. Then, I met Pacman, and heard that he was born there, and wanted to be a Mayor there.
Now, the Pidals want him to run for Congressman so he will be forced to give money to the national campaign fund because the Pidals must be having difficulty getting enough money now from their donors, and they would not like to withdraw from their bank accounts overseas dahil mabibisto ni Alan Peter! Wais!!!
Anyway, yYes, I know there are lots of Ilocanos in Cotabato. A lot of our relatives in fact settled in Kidapawan, Cotabato. I doubt if they will vote for Pacquiao! They are intelligent enough not to be hoodwinked by the Pidals!

I was listening yesterday sa rmn manila..Jose and ka Rene…sabi nga ni ka Rene okay lang sa kanya si Pacquiao tumakbo sa Congress and he has a point kasi sabi niya ngayon congress paramihan ng alliance or numbers talaga..nagsasalita pa ang iba sabay hirit ang mga committees let’s vote..so nawala na talaga ang debate sa hall..ako I will blame JDV kasi as speaker of the house sinira na yun integrity ng congress…kaya siguro tatakbo nga ito (Pacquiao) napayuhan na wala ng debate sa congress vote ka lang ng vote…upo lang at makinig at siguro tagalog version naman ang bibigay sa kanyang documents..o kaya mayroon naman earphone na puwedeng mag translate sa kanya (dating ang plano ni Lapid)….but knowing Pacquiao di gagamit yan he will speak english nakita naman natin sa mga after fight niya talagang magsasalita siya kahit di niya naiintindihan ang tanong at di gagamit ng translator.
For me, pacquiao should not run as congressman…tutal boxer siya mahilig sa action so bagay sa kanya Mayor pero tumakbo after na mag retire siya sa boxing.

Kaya lang, hindi rin natin alam kung pwedeng kanselahin pa ang laban ni Pakyaw kahit may kontrata na ito.
Puwede rin palang isabotage ang kandidatong gaya ni Pakyaw by showing replays of his previous fights in any TV or Cable Channel all over the world where there are absentee-voting Filipinos, diba?

My Darling is in for the fight of her life. I know given equal footing, she will win by a mile. What troubles me though is that all the time, the Antoninos have been virtually unchallenged in their turf. Not this time. The nasty little she-devil in Malacañang will use her clout in this all-out battle for each and every legislative district.
Pandak chose Pakyaw because the cute little darlin’ might be heir apparent to the roles Alan Peter Cayetano and Chiz Escudero will leave behind as they become senators. I suspect they will bring the same misery to Roilo Golez, Butch Aquino, Gilbert Remulla and the others who are probable successors of Escudero.
But Darlene will face stiff competition, I suppose dirty, from Pacquiao who this time will get support from the Alcantaras who lord it over even in lumad land. Tomas Alcantara during Gloria’s campaign in 2004 was said to have delivered millions of dollars from earnings of his pesudo-embassy in Taipei. The Alcantaras are presently into huge real estate development projects in GenSan I won’t be surprised if the BIR would do the “convincing” for Pakyaw.
I wouldn’t likewise be surprised, though, that GenSan folk may dump the boxing hero as he turns political villain. They have quickly become urbanized and I would like to guess they think more like their metropolitan counterparts.

Wondering, I don’t know, I’m asking. Does anyone here can tell me if Manny Pacquaio completed high school. I know he’s an excellent boxer inside the ring, but is he able to read and write? Just being curious since he entered his name in politics. Quite a big step for someone knew nothing of the govt and about the constitution, in particular the Article III, Bill of Right. I think, every candidates should be able to recite the Constitution, I doubt it very much if Pacquaio even heard of the Constitution. I’d assumed he doesn’t know. I suppose, I could be wrong. A good question for Ms Custodio to ask him if there is a debate, or might be on Ms Ellen turf to ask as a journalist. Well, such a life! Hopefully, mutineer Gloria will take her under wing, and guide him if he ever become one congressman. What’s this country coming too? Blind is leading the blind!

It will be a super heavyweight political fight between second term Rep. Darlene Antonino Custodio and boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, the FG’s proxy to try to knock out a pro-impeachment member of Congress representing the 1st District of South Cotabato.
Guns, goons, gold and Garci will be on Manny’s side against 30 years of outstanding service of the Antoninos, from Darlenes’s father, Mayor Adel Antonino and mother Lou, a three-term congresswoman.
At 32 years of age, Darlene has blossomed into a good eloquent legislator while Manny at 29 reached boxing heights amassing at least P300 million in boxing purses and commercials. But the big question remains: Can Manny Pacquiao, a Grade Three pupil, discharge the functions of a legislator credibility as against the veteran Darlene, the La Salle business administration graduate?
Darlene has served as deputy majority leader and deputy minority leader. Muling iginiit ni Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos na hindi puwedeng kumandidato si Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao bilang kongresista sa Unang Distrito ng South Cotabato hangga’t hindi nito nareresolba ang isyu sa kanyang residency.
Ayon kay Abalos, magiging problema ni Pacquiao ang residency dahil lumilitaw na tatlo ang tinitirhan nito matapos manumpa o mag-”under oath” sa Comelec na nakatira siya sa Mandaluyong, Maynila at General Santos city.
“Si Manny ay isa sa boksingerong sa Mandaluyong nagmula. Ang pangaral ko sa kanya bilang isang ama, ito munang profession mo bilang boxer ang asikasuhin mo,” sabi ni Abalos.
Mas magiging mainam umano na kumonsulta muna si Pacman sa kanyang abugado tungkol sa isyu ng residency.

Sa totoo lang ay naaawa ako kay Manny Pacquiao, dahil sa ginagamit siya ni gma para itapat kay Antonino na alam natin na tinik sa landas ni gma. At maraming pera si Manny para itustos sa kanyang kandidatura. Makakatipid ang grupo ni gma dahil mahihiya si manny na humingi ng pera sa grupo niya, natural me pera siya e. Si Pakyaw ba ang kawawa or is it the people who will get the shorter end of the stick if he get elected?
I saw the interview with his Inang on TV Patrol and one of the anchor ask him why not just set up a foundation if he wants to help. His reply was “meron na ho akong foundation mauubos ho ang pera ko kung hindi ako tatakbo sa pulitika”.
His statement above tells us why of all position he wants to run for congress when he knows and his backers know exactly that he can’t even win in a debate with elementary grade schoolers what more with congress people………….. it’s all about the pork barrel allocated to these congress people. The guy has no clue what he will do in the halls of congress but knew exactly that these pork barrel are un-audited so he can use peoples money in his alm giving charities kuno. If he “manage” it well he can even pocket some extra “pocket change” and keep his pugilist prize money intact.
He may be the best pound for pound boxer today but it is not a guarantee that his intentions are pure in his bid for a congressional seat. Case in point is his refusal to take a dna test on the baby he alledgedly fathered with a waitress. If he is not the father he should take the test and get it over with, his refusal is a travesty and an injustice to the offspring who will grow up without a father. Can we trust a weasel enough to send him to congress, aba baka magkalat ang lahi nito na walang makikilalang ama sa buhay nila.

Hmm…for a while, I thought everybody in this amen corner was describing FPJ…si Manny pala…Methinks, whether you guys like it or not Manny will ultimately triumph in one of the biggest upsets in the history of South Cotabato politics unless of course the Antoninos employ their usual vote-getting wizardry for the umpteenth time. Sa totoo lang, people in Dadiangas are simply tired of the Antonino’s hold over local politics. This is political dynasty at its grossest! Lolo ni Darlene naging Senator, followed by her Lola Magnolia, tapos her dad Adelbert naging Assemblyman and after that became Mayor for 2 terms while her Mom became congresswoman for 3 terms and then we have Darlene. Still not satisfied, pati current Mayor na si Acharon hawak nila & the poor chap simply can not move without their say-so…. 20 or something years in power and it’s still not enough to whet their appetites. How power hungry can this family get? And for the life of me, I dunno how Darlene claims to represent our district. She wasn’t even born here nor has she even gone to school here. Ni bahay sa GenSan eh wala. So what are her ties to the district that supposedly she represents other than her family name? At least Manny is from here and knows our local problems compared to Darlene who dwells so much on issues that simply we over here don’t care a whit about!

Sinabi mo pa! I don’t trust adulterers. When I saw him in Tokyo in 2005, I thought he was a straight guy, no affairs outside of marriage, and I admired him for his “devotion to God.” However, when I read about the child he refused to recognize, I thought he could not be an ideal role model for young Filipino kids, and that his “devotion to God” was nothing but hypocrisy!
Pero shocking naman iyong sinabi niya na ayaw niyang gumawa ng foundation for the poor dahil mauubos ang pera niya kaya doon na lang sa Kongreso para gumawa ng pera! If that is not corruption, what is? Abangan ang gagawing kalokohan ng ungas na ito!
Fortunately, Cotabato is one province with better voters who know whom to vote right!!! Kailangan lang talaga i-expose ang posibleng magagawang kalokohan ng mokong na ito!

This personality and patronage based politics has to stop, we have reach the lowest pathetic ebb in politics seeing the likes of Pacquiao is clearly an insult to our electorates and the whole nation as well.

I am a filipino citizen from Region 3 and a permanent resident of USA. I am not an avid fan of re-electionist Rep. Darlene Antonino-Custodio just happy to know she is leading the congressional race with her opponent Manny Pacquiao. I will be very upset if Manny Pacquiao wins, what we need is somebody who is really qualified to work in the Congress. We have to take into consideration the educational background of any future candidates.
