It’s Aquino-Roxas for LP in 2010

All eyes were on broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez when her fiancé, Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, made the surprise announcement that he was withdrawing from the 2010 presidential derby in favor of Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Sanchez was among those first consulted by Roxas about the sudden change of political plans. She was reportedly behind the crafting of the senator’s “concession” speech at the Club Filipino on Sept. 1.
Interviewed over the radio the following day about her fiancé’s decision, Sanchez poured her heart out and lashed out at the critics of Roxas. Sanchez has been on a leave of absence from her newscasting job at the network giant ABS-CBN since May in preparation for her October wedding with Roxas and the long-planned presidential campaign of the senator.
The following is an interview by Probe Profiles with Sanchez on Sept. 7.

Pardon this stupid question: Is Korina Sanchez a TV actress/show star like Kris Aquino?
Don’t really know her; don’t believe ever seen her either on TV either (simple reason RP TV doesn’t get here…)
She seems to me like a modern, young woman with a good head on her shoulders.
Or is she solely with TV broadcast journalism? Thanks.
Korina is a news broadcaster. Unlike Kris who does entertainment talk shows, Korina does news. She is a hardhitting journalist.
She may be faulted for her ego, but in fairness to her she is not easily intimidated. She is not corrupt.
Great to know that. Thanks, Ellen!
Ellen,
I just read this: “Panlilio and Isabela Governor Grace Padaca, who have both declared support for Aquino, are also being considered for the party’s senatorial slate, said Baguilat, an LP member.”
To me, these provincial chief execs should stay on in their respective provinces and seek re-election; country could do with good provincial CEOs.
I agree Anna. If these governors are effective in the provinces, they should at least run a sacond time. People will vote for them again. I just do not know if Pampanga will go for a Fr Panlilio re-election. The jueteng king and queen may have a better strategy to win this time around.
I like Korina. Too bad she can’t be a first lady at this time. She would be a good one. It will be another first for the Philiipnes to have a non-traditional first lady, a sister this time.
PSB,
I thought Aquino had a special lady in his life? If he wins, she could always be acting fist lady (or GF).
Just read this — part of Roxas’ speech, in Malaya:
“This fight is not just about Noynoy and me. It’s bigger than the two of us. It’s bigger than the Liberal Party. It’s bigger than anyone of us. It is about our collective thirst for change. It is about finally overcoming those who want to continue the tayo-tayo system, the horse-trading, the greed, the self-interest, the transactional politics that has been the biggest roadblock to progress and prosperity for all,”
“They have been robbing us for so long and they want to continue robbing us. Sa kanila tuloy ang ligaya, sa atin naman tuloy ang laban. Pero hindi tayo papayag na manakaw din nila ang ating pag-asa,”
For an opening salvo, it ain’t bad. Let’s see what concrete plans he and his partner will propose.
This to me is a corny proposition. How I wish candidates would get down to real good solid speeches and do away with all those tear-jerker like sound bytes.
manakaw ang pag-asa? too do-lally for me.
If they wanted to get the masa vote, they should speak their language. Erap is very good at it, thus the masa appeal.
What I like most about Korina was she made TADYAK to Kiks Pangilinan, known in Pinas as the infamous Mr. Noted.
An elite (Noynoy) and anoter elite (Mar) talking to the masa, I do not know if the masa will ever understand the language. But they can try. Both of these men have decency, at least. A countrty with more poor people in it should have a leader who can put his/her feet in a poor man’s shoes( baka nakapaa pa nga-tsinelas na lang ni Korina…heh, heh, heh). The tandem is too yellow for the country. Pang-elite na naman ang dating. It is too early to see the impact of Korina on this tandem but she has always been a fighter. Again, with Mar running for the vice, Korina will surely move mountains to make her man win. Good luck to all of them.
By the way, speaking of corrupt journalists, the “Jukebox” of Malaya is at it with his rants and raves and what not, still insisting that FPJ would have won if Lacson had given in.
What people seem to forget is that Gloria would have moved hell and earth to cheat even more even if FPJ had been the sole standard bearer because of the other kenkoys. She was determined to win…
Ooops,…
What people seem to forget is that Gloria would have moved hell and earth to cheat bigger and more even if FPJ had been the sole standard bearer; besides, there were other kenkoys running too, weren’t there. She was determined to win and FPJ or no FPJ, she would have done it. She couldn’t afford to be brought to court and jailed without giving it her all. Such is the personality of this pandak.
Never underestimate the masa’s comprehension/understanding of the elite’s language and intentions. Mga sharp yan!
Anna,
Same here basta hind lang si Teodoro o Villar.
Chi, the thing is, the elite will again prevail. This is usually the case. Remember the kamaganak inc of Cory? Cory compared to Noynoy is supposed to be tougher(daw) even if she was a woman. May nagawa ba siya kay cousin Danding? Danding took over almost all businesses then. Our memories are short. Wala namang problema sa poor, they just say “opo sir” kung gusto nila ang naguutos sa kanila. They understand a command, not necessarily a language.
PSB,
Allow me to butt in … but which of the candidates, except for Villar (whom I can’t stomach) is viable? Who else?
PSB, I don’t have a line between an elite and a masa president as long as he/she cares for the country and its people.
O kung meron sanang isang Magsaysay na biglang susulpot, why not?
“nanggaling sa mahirap na background” or super yaman pareho din sa akin basta ang aking requirements ay honest, with a good heart and he/she not only promises but adheres to Pinas Constitution and laws at all times.
spot on Chi!
Second: Won’t enrich himself in office.
So what? It does not mean he is a masa.
Villar’s mom was from my province daw but ask us and we don’t know much less care.
Anna, Chi, well, we really have very limited choices don’t we? Who knows maybe someone else more appealing will come our way. I do not have a problem if Noynoy or Villar or Erap wins as long as it is not a known boobuwit ally.
Pag ba sinabing masa, mahihirap? Hindi ba ang masa means public, or everybody? This time, gasgas na gasgas na yang word masa, overused na and people using this word, only shows their duplicity.
Personally, the word itself divides the people. It’s not the persons fault if he’s born rich (but it’s all his faults if he became rich due to wrongdoings), or poor (kasalanan niya kung tamad siya, at lalong kasalanan ng gobyerno kung hindi siya pinapansin). What matters is that we all participate in voting for our choices, only then we become pantay-pantay.
Re Anna’s: “the “Jukebox” of Malaya is at it with his rants and raves and what not, still insisting that FPJ would have won if Lacson had given in.”
FPJ won despite Lacson being there. That’s why Arroyo had to do the “Hello Garci” operations. Gloria Arroyo never won a presidential elections. She was never elected to the presidency.
yes, I believe that the “masa” of yore is not the same “masa” of the present times. Social issues are more discussed openly among them especially in Manila. My opinion is that it be clarified between those more aware and the less aware. Maraming madaling maanod ng bandwagon mentality…and local political “affiliations” like utang-ng-loob and kamag-anakan inc. That’s where political manipulators/strategists target their wares. The provincial electorate more than the Metro manila electorate are prone to being manipulated. Of course, there are provinces with more independent-minded and politically aware citizens. But where i am…it still is feudal and the old-school masa- mentality is still a reality.
Ellen,
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. A Gloria “win” to me was cheating. That’s what I meant — Lacson or no Lacson, FPJ would have lost — there was no way Gloria would have allowed that to happen, baka pa pinasunog na lang niya ang mga balota had Garci not come in.
