President Gloria Arroyo will make a “secret” trip to Colombia after her state visit to Japan ends Saturday.
Sources at the Department of Foreign Affairs said they learned of the inclusion of Cartagena, Colombia in the President’s itinerary only Friday and were taken aback that Malacanang had not disclosed to them the scheduled trip.
The Philippines has no embassy in Colombia. Colombia,however, has an honorary consul in Manila:former Miss International Stella Marquez-Araneta.
Asked why the President was traveling to Colombia, a person close to her said: “I am asking the same question.”

The Smartmatic angle from Tribune:
Sequoia, a losing bidder, charged that Smartmatic had not been truthful about its eligibility claims.
From documents, it would seem that Smartmatic lied yet all the Comelec does is to threaten these losing bidders who point to valid issues.
Avante, another losing bidder, also pointed out that it was treated unequally by the Comelec bids and awards panel, saying that while disqualifying Avante for not being able to submit the documents that would show its single largest contract, on account of a confidentiality clause, this same reason of confidentiality used by Smartmatic to explain its inablity to produce the document, was, however, accepted by the Comelec.
It has also been pointed out by the media many times over that Smartmatic will be sub-contracting the manufacture of these machines to a firm in Taiwan that will then also subcontract this project to another manufacturer in Taiwan. To date, Comelec has not even bothered to reply to these charges. Why not, since it claims to be transparent?
Why then can’t Melo and his commissioners face these allegations frontally, and disprove them publicly instead of issuing threats and defending Smartmatic?
There is that disaster of a failure of elections waiting to happen and Melo and his boys in the poll body merely brush this off.
It makes one wonder if this is being done deliberately for the benefit of Gloria Arroyo for her to sate her obsession for political perpetuity.

Just a bit of clarification… I think you meant Israelis or if you want to be specific, you may say, the Jews of Israel. Jews are a race and are everywhere in the world and need not be in Israel alone; they also needn’t be all “democracy leaning” strictly speaking.
I personally knew a Jew whom I taught English and who was rabidly more communistic than Lenin (OK, that’s an overstatement but you get the gist).
