AWOl ang ikinaso ng Philippine Navy kay Ltsg. Nancy Gadian. Maganda ito kasi mabubuhay ang AWOL ni Maj. Gen. John Martir na magiging marine commandant sa sunod na buwan daw.
Ang AWOL ni Gadian ay hindi pa umaabot isang buwan. Si Martir ay 477 na araw o halos isa at kalahating taon AWOL! Nagsweldo siya sa buong panahon na yun kahit siya ay sa Amerika.
May arrest warrant na si Gadian. Hindi kinasuhan si Martir. Na-promote pa ng ilang beses. Kaya nga dalawa na ang estrelya sa kanyang balikat. Paano ngayon ipaliwanag yan ng military sa mga sundalo at sa publiko?
Ganyan ang nangyayari kung ang institusyon katulad ng military ay ginagamit para sa pang-personal na interest ng isang pulitiko at sa sitwasyon na ito ay si Gloria Arroyo. Alam naman natin kung paano ginamit ni Arroyo ang military noong 2004 na eleksyon sa pandaraya. Kaya lahat na opisyal na kayang magtakip ng mata sa pambababoy ni Arroyo sa militar ay okay lang. Kahit mag-AWOL katulad ni Martir.
Kapag pinayagan mong bastusin ang batas at patakaran, paano mo ngayon ipatupad yan? ‘Yan ngayon ang problema dito sa kaso ni Gadian na ang ugat talaga ay kurakutan daw ng pera sa Balikatan exercises, ang pagsasanay na ginagawa ng mga Pilipino at Amerikanong sundalo dito sa Pilipinas.
Pina-imbistigahan daw kasi ni Lt. Gen. Eugenio Cedo, dating commander ng Western Mindanao command, si Gadian sa nawawalang P2.3 milyon. Binweltahan ni Gadian at sinabi na ang heneral at iba pang matatas na opisyal ang kumurakot ng halos P40 milyon sa P46 milyon na budget para sa Balikatan noong 2007. At sinabi ni Gadian na ilalabas niya ang dokumento sa tamang lugar at oras.
Pina-iimbistigahan na ni Senator Rodolfo Biazon ang akusasyon ni Gadian. Ngayon sinasabi na ng military na walang nawawala raw sa P46 milyon na budget ng 2007 Balikatan. Kaya wala raw anomalya doon. AWOL na lang ang kaso ni Gadian.
May balita akong may mga miyembro ng civil society at simbahang Katoliko ang gustong tumulong at kumupkop kay Gadian at ng kanyang pamilya. Sinabi ngayon ni Arevalo na hindi na nila ipapatupad ang warrant of arrest kung kusang babalik si Gadian sa kanilang custody.
Siyempre kapag sa military custody na si Gadian, hindi na siya pwedeng magsalita. Walang mangyayari na doon sa napabalitang kurakutan ng P40 milyon.
That’s another double standard policy by this evil administration. They charged Lt. Gadian with AWOL while Martir was also AWOL for one year in the US. And he was even promoted. I strongly suggest that Gadian should use this argument in her defense.

The Martir awol case is indeed very demoralizing to the AFP as a whole. It sends the wrong message. Martir is also the lead witness in the Tanay Boys’ court martial. He was on the witness stand in the last hearing and will be cross examined in the next hearing on the 19th of May (I am not very sure of this date).

It looks like in the AFP, those who wish to implement reforms are bypassed in their promotions. The supposedly coup of 2006 may have just been a case of upright officers yearning to know the truth in the 2004 cheating operations but ended up in jail because of senior officers like Senga and asspweron’s protecting the CHEAT. There may still be another Gen Lim and Col Querubin in the AFP today but they are afarid to come out for fear of the same outcome the Tanay Boys ended up.
This makes me believe that Gadian may be full of disgust with the way the foot soldiers are deprived of their allowances. So she decided to whistleblow instead. She knows that the higher officers are very good in whitewashing the truth(remember the Mayuga report?) and the truth will never come out if probing will be done the traditional way which is to just “KEEP QUIET” and let the business go on as usual.

Though the Martir AWOL case is worthy of the Guinness record book or the Ananova freak news it is beyond the pale of the Separation Board as it smacks of C-I-C manipulation; but the Gadian Awol is within its reach. Whatever the merits of her allegations and the authenticity of LtGen Cedo’s report, I am not confident of commenting on this episode as the details from media reporting are erratic, haphazard and inconsistent (in my view). The intriguing aspect seems to be why Cedo is reporting an anomaly that transpired under his watch. Covering one’s gluteus maximus is a natural reaction in these perilous times.
I have also refrained from commenting on Col. Querubin and Comelec’s Rafanan who I deeply believe are upright and decent, but they are fellow Ilocanos like me, and my comments would be suspect as biased. (Querubin’s hometown is adjacent to my hometown San Fernando, and I have had classmates family-named Querubin.)

I have always written manually my e in José with an é. This is because the stress in pronouncing the name is at the last. This is really the proper way of writting this name. But either because I did not know how to write this in the computer or was just in a hurry to press what is more accessible that I just spelled it in the computer as Jose without the é. But just recently I was able to find out how to write it in the computer so now I sometimes place the é. This is the first time I saw an e in José written in è. Maybe José written in Josè sounds foreign or Italian, I do not know. Maybe somebody who is knowledgeable in language could tell us if there is such a spelling of José spelled in Josè. Tell us also what the è means. Maybe somebody could also cite a source of that language information. It is because I feel guilty of having doubts on the authenticity of the said priest– Father Nori.
I also notice that the supposed priest was preaching about rewards here on earth. What good is heaven if we just set our eyes here on earth? If this is the case, then there is no more hope for the victims of the recent earthquake in Italy. If we hope for life from this world only, then there is no more need for the spiritual dimension and eternal life. Then there would be no more need for priests. But the priests that I know gives hope in the name of Jesus Christ love till eternity to our present material life. Their teaching is the experience of the cross that enables us to validate that there is eternal life. They have given me liberty to love in the midst of death in this world. I hope somebody can explain to me again what is the real role the Catholic Church in this world of wars, oppression, calamities and clinging hope in the finite world.

Just a correction: Depends on nation and/or which military; even in peace time AWOL can be declared desertion, i.e., if the soldier/officer does not return after a few weeks after AWOL, he/she can be declared a deserter.

Estrada has had his chance for the presidency, he bungled it. he has not learned from his mistakes.

If he wants to vindicate himself, he should use whatever remaining political clout he has to help a candidate who can best serve the country. I am against Estrada running for president again. It will be a big help for Gloria Arroyo.
