Supermaid factory

Gloria Arroyo’s vision for the Philippines is to turn it into one big factory of supermaids.

She unveiled this vision last Thursday in a televised roundtable discussion on the evacuation of more than 30,000 Filipinos in Lebanon, almost all of them working as domestic helpers. This was after it was reported that two Filipina maids jumped to their death from a high-story building fleeing their Lebanese masters.

A number of the returning Filipino maids had related to media their harrowing experiences with their Lebanese employers. Many of them were raped and were not paid their salaries, which were low: $200 (P10,000) a month. There was even one who was getting only $150 (P7,650) a month. They were prevented from leaving even as Israeli bombing of Lebanon intensified.

Arroyo’s solution is to train the maids to handle modern household gadgets, teach them the language of their employers, and teach them first-aid techniques. “”We will be sending supermaids,” Arroyo said her eyes sparkling as if she had found THE SOLUTION to the country’s worsening poverty.

Arroyo will use the facilities of the government to produce supermaids to be exported to foreign countries. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority will become the training facility for supermaids. Augusto Syjuco, TESDA head, sees nothing wrong in it. He was as excited as Arroyo. He said: “If there is someone injured among the family they work for (the Filipina supermaid would know what to do). She would know how to get out of a fire in a high-rise building. All these are part of our upgrading program.”

Arroyo and Syjuco must have forgotten that Tesda’s mandate is to “restructure efforts to promote and develop middle-level manpower.” It is also supposed to “develop an accreditation system for institutions involved in middle-level manpower development.”

What’s “middle-level manpower” about being a Supermaid? Syjuco said with the new skills that they will acquire “they are not just maids.”

What will they be? If they learn how to operate a washing machine and administer first aid, will their horny employers not rape them? If they learn to say “Yes, Sir” and “Yes Ma’am” in a foreign language, will their heartless employers set them free in times of war?

Data provided by Women in Development Foundation showed that 74 percent of the OFWs in 2004 are women. In 2005, women bound to the Middle East showed that huge number are domestic helpers. In Kuwait, 89 percent are DHs; in Saudi Arabia, 26 percent; and in the United Arab Emirates, 32 percent. In war-torn Lebanon, 100 percent of the women deployed there are DHs.

WID noted that in Lebanon, domestic helpers are called “Filipinas.” In Syria, a government official commented on TV that most of the employers “took their ‘Filipinas’ with them.”

Arroyo’s “supermaid” idea will perpetuate this degradation of the Filipino people.

Her “supermaid” program betrays her contempt for the poor Filipino women who were forced to go to unfriendly environments such as Lebanon just to escape poverty in her Enchanted Kingdom. It puts the blame on the Filipinas and not on the employers.

If a domestic helper is being maltreated, Arroyo thinks it’s because there’s a language problem. So the Filipina DH should learn their language. (This has long been POEA/DOLE’s program. That means these agencies have been remiss in their work.) The Filipina DH should acquire more skills to make the employer appreciate her service.

The cruelty suffered by Filipina domestic workers are human rights issues. One does not have to be a “supermaid” to demand respect of her human rights.

In its statement on “supermaids”, the Women in Development Foundation said domestic work for OFWs is decent work only under the following basic conditions:

1. That foreign domestic workers enjoy adequate laws in countries of destination that can be enforced to protect them;

2. That appropriate conditions for work and safety are existent;

3. That salaries are pegged at international standards for the same work;

5. That foreign posts have adequate mechanism to monitor their conditions at worksite on a quarterly basis;

4. That bilateral agreements are forged to ensure their safety in times of war and calamity;

6. That government has the social infrastructure to deal with the personal and social cost resulting from the diaspora of women.

“While we believe that that they should be equipped with the necessary skills to handle household gadgets and basic language in their destination countries, this is not a remedy to ensure their safety, provide them with dignity and protect them from the abuse of foreign employers and recruitment agencies.

“We cannot agree to a “band-aid maid” strategy that the “supermaid” idea is trying to peddle. It should incorporate government effort to first address the basic conditions enumerated for making foreign domestic work truly decent work,” WID said.

We would like to go further and demand that Arroyo address the issue of poverty in the country that forces Filipinos to venture into hostile territories just to survive. But then that would bring us back to her governance of survival because of the question of illegitimacy of presidency. It’s back to the Original Sin.

We have Super Midget or Super Pandak, then Super Pidal or Super Taba, then Super Maids. May these idiots (except the maids) be hit by Super Missiles.

  4. Statement of Migrant Forum in Asia: Migrant workers in Lebanon are victims twice over

We are distressed over the raging conflict in the Middle East. Three weeks and more than 800 deaths later, the situation seems to be getting worse.

Last week’s attack on civilians in Qana which claimed the lives of scores of women and children is truly deplorable. This unfortunate incident underscores the need for a concerted international action to force Israel and Hezbollah to agree to an immediate and unconditional cessation of hostilities.

Aggression is not the solution. We must stop this foolishness now. We urge the warring forces in Southern Lebanon and in Gaza City to lay down their arms and negotiate for a lasting solution that will bring genuine peace in the Middle East.

We are especially concerned with the situation of the estimated 200,000 migrant workers from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines affected by the crisis in Lebanon and Northern Israel. According to newspaper reports, one migrant worker from Sri Lanka and another from Indonesia were killed in the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel. Their deaths are truly tragic because these migrant workers are victims twice over: first by the grinding poverty from their home countries due to flawed economic policies and second from the viciousness of this senseless war. Their dreams of better lives for themselves and their families are shattered by the bombs and rockets of the Israelis and Hezbollah.

In spite of the hostile conditions, many migrant workers chose not to leave Lebanon and Northern Israel for fear of losing their only source of income. For many, to stay means facing serious risk from the ongoing violence while to go back home means confronting poverty and unemployment. Simply put, these people are caught between a rock and a hard place.

A significant number of migrant workers who want to leave are forced to remain in Lebanon because of the lack of proper documentation. We heard many horror stories about undocumented migrant workers being abandoned by their respective governments. Many are sleeping along the streets of Beirut while some are reportedly languishing in jails.

Irrespective of status, all migrant workers should be given assistance. Repatriation should be open to all, documented or not. We also urge the governments of migrant-sending countries to have a proper accounting of all of their citizens in Lebanon and Northern Israel.

The predicament of the migrant workers in the war-torn region is indicative of the failure of the migrant-sending governments to provide their people with full and decent employment. It highlights the incompetence of migrant-sending countries to quickly respond to crisis situation where their citizens are at risk. We reiterate our call for relevant national and international agencies to act together to save the lives and livelihoods of migrant workers caught in conflict situations. It is only through a concerted and programmatic effort that we can ensure the safety of the migrant workers.

In many countries, labor migration has become part of the official development strategy. Every year, millions of people move out of their countries to search for better opportunities elsewhere. These migrant workers, documented or not, provide significant economic contributions through remittances amounting to billions of dollars. Maximizing these remittances for people-centered development will contribute to sustainable economic growth that will reduce dependency on migration. If only governments will do their jobs in providing their people with enough opportunities at home then they will not be confronted with the difficult situation such as what is happening in Lebanon now.

Finally, on September 14-15 of this year the United Nations General Assembly is convening the High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Development. We call on Member States and Civil Society Actors who will be participating in this dialogue to find ways to work together and ensure the protection of the human rights of all migrants and their families.

We reiterate our call for all Member States to ratify, adopt and implement all the core UN and ILO human rights instruments, particularly the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.

We encourage them to discuss not only the effects of international migration but rather focus on the factors pushing people out of their own communities and countries. We challenge them to draw up solutions that will minimize the negative effects of international migration.

Migrant Forum in Asia is a regional network of more than 260 non-government organizations (NGOs), associations and trade unions of migrant workers, and individual advocates in Asia who are committed to protect and promote the rights and welfare of migrant workers.

  5. Ellen,

How I wish everybody would see the statement from Migrant Forum. The last three posts in my site deals with our OFWs. I’ve gotten a few “not so nice” comments about this topic. Maybe this statement would open the minds and hearts of those who continue to rant and rave about the assistance our undocumented OFWs are getting.

  6. Boboy Syjuco heads the TESDA? What does he know?
And train “SuperMaids”? He was born with a sliver spoon….
    ano ba ang alam niya?

Goodness, the elite and the maids!

Si gloria kaya ang mag-super maid?
    Subukan niyang magtrabaho bilang maid?
C’mon, set the pace, gloria and let us see na kaya mo, bago ka mag-propose ng isang hakbang.

IF and when her time comes to answer for the crimes she did to the Filipino pople, how I wish gawing taga-paglinis ng mga kubeta ng Bayan [o kaya naman eh, tagapaglinis ng estero at clogged canals] itong si glue at nang makita niya ang kagalingan ng kanyang pinagsasabi.

Be part of the solution, gloria. The way it is, YOU remain OUR problem!

  7. BE part of the solution, gloria;

as it is, YOu remain the MAJOR PROBLEM of the country!

  8. npongco npongco

Taipan, the original Super Maid title actually belongs to Gloria. Remember she was called “Lavandera”?

Is there anything wrong with Malaya paper online? For two days now, it’s an old issue posted and haven’t been updated yet. Tribune used to be this way last time, but it’s okay now. Ms. Ellen, you may want to call the attention of Malaya’s IT/technical people.

  10. npongco npongco

FYI, I got a report that former Budget Secretary Boncodin accepted a position at Petron, 40% government owned. She was a member of the Hyatt 10. Where now is her principle and determination to fight this Gloria? Let’s hope Dinky Soliman doesn’t follow…but recently, she made some favorable comments about her former boss Gloria in the media.

  11. I heard that a Greek shipping tycoon is willing to ship our OFWS to Cyprus, that is good news to me.

  13. Re Emy Boncodin: She has accepted the directorship of Petron. She needs money for her medical bills because she requires dialysis. She has kidney disease.

Re malaya’s online edition. I checked it last night and it was okay.It was updated. Maybe you should check with your server. Or try accessing it through Google.

  14. npongco npongco

Thanks Ms. Ellen. I just checked the Malaya online now and it’s okay. Earlier which was just a few hours ago, the issue posted was Saturday. Now, it’s the new Monday issue. I think it was okay when you checked it…but why it was not updated for two days is something Malaya should be aware of.

Regarding Boncodin, I feel sorry for her. Why can’t the Hyatt 10 or the Civil Society raise funds to help her? Since she’s now with the government, how can she now reveal all she knows about GMA? As budget secretary, she’s in the best position to share important info as to how funds are being allocated and wasted.

  15. goldenlion goldenlion

Supermaids???? How this idiot Gloria Arroyo ever made it to Malacanang is really very puzzling. And/or anyone ever trusted her to run the country. Midget Gloria with mentally deficient has been an embarrasment. Goodness sake, I never wish anything bad on anyone, but I can make an exception with this liar. I hope it happen very soon. The country can no longer wait, the country must be saved from Gloria and her bunch of thieves.

supermaids? hah!!! why not demand that gloria be the first example. siya muna kaya? pwede ba yun?

  18. npongco npongco

Correct Myrna. I wasn’t able to see the Sunday issue of Malaya online. Saturday for two days and then it jumped to Monday. I’ve already requested Ms. Ellen to notify the Malaya…or is Malaya being hacked?

Ngayon, let’s do some math again…let’s say a batch of 20,000 “new would be DH” registered in a year, na magbabayad ng tig-P2,500.00 bawat isa para sa registration, etc. na “requirements” KUNO.

In my own personal opinion, the “status” given to our “entertainers” deployed in Japan and South Korea are “even higher” than our yayas-atsay-nannys-dh or whatever names they want to call a “house-help”, in tagalog “KATULONG”. It’s a “shallow analogy” but that’s the “plain and simple” truth. The bottom line is, this issue or “gimmick” of a “SuperMaid” by gloria would really “bite her sorry ass”.

  21. npongco npongco

    Off topic (on Mid-East)…

    Martin Luther King once said:

Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism.

While justice remains as scarce as water in the arid lands of the Middle East, rivers of blood and tears will continue to fill the streets. Western hubris, avarice, and belligerence will continue to beget mayhem, suffering, and the fetid stench of death.

The militant Neocon and Zionist leaders in the United States and Israel are deaf to lamentations and blind to scenes of carnage. As long as they remain in power and have pawns to sacrifice, the “War on Terror” will continue to escalate.

May the Higher Power rest the souls of the innocent men, women and children who have perished as a result of the Middle Eastern conflict, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or nation of origin.

And may the rest of us find the strength and the means to expel the numerous despicable human beings who have hijacked our political, economic, and social institutions.

  22. I noticed that Arroyo and her minions are at a loss how to do damage control with the mess that has been exposed by the war in Lebanon. panay band-aid solution. Ang problema, for every instant”solution” that they come up, it turns off people.

The latest were her order that there should be “zero casualty”.

The DFA guy had to say it’s not “war-related”. nagmukha naman siyang tanga.

Then Arroyo had to come up with this “Supermaid”. Lalo naman siyang nagmukhang tanga.

I agree with Donato Villaflores that this is meant to divert attention to the miuse of OWWA funds plus other anomalies ang bunglings that they have committed.

  23. the term “supermaid” reminds me of rex navarette’s “marites vs the superfriends.” gloria must have watched it and misunderstood. while the video was meant to highlight the plight of OFWs, she must have thought marites was having fun working for those gloria deemed as “superfriends.”

  24. Emilio has problems accessing this blog. He e-mailed this:

Looking back, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) was created and is an attached agency of the Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE). It is the lead membership welfare institution that serves the interest and welfare of member-overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). The following links will provide more information regarding OWWA:

    http://www.ofwguide.com/owwa.php
    http://www.owwa.gov.ph/abtowwa.html
    http://www.mydestiny.net/~owwa/
    http://www.owwa.gov.ph/ (UNDER MAINTENANCE)

All OFWs are obliged to pay US$25 OWWA fee before an Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) will be issued by the POEA. At the same time, an OFW needs to pay the compulsory MEDICARE fee which is equivalent to PnP900.00 (nine hundred pesos). This is valid only for one year. There is no policy, no MEDICARE number and the membership expires after a year. I subscribed to a PhilHealth membership and ever since I’ve been paying continuously my membership.

The case in point here is the OWWA fund. With the snail-paced evacuation of the OFWs in Lebanon, most OFWs are asking about the OWWA fund which is according to the OWWA Administrator, Marianito Roque amounting already to almost PnP8B (eight billion pesos). It was suspected that the OWWA fund has been depleted and was used in the May 2004 election campaign fund of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo with the connivance of then PhilHealth officer Duque and eventually became the Health Secretary as a reward. The link is a report regarding the diversion of the OWWA fund:

    http://newsinfo.inq7.net/inquirerheadlines/metro/view_article.php?article_id=12805

There is a loose cannon in DFA, Undersecretary Esteban Conejos, blaming Al Francis Bichara for telling the truth about the non-transfer of funds which is required for immediate repatriation of the OFWs in Lebanon. This only shows the intransigence and insensibilities of the OWWA, DFA and Malacanang officials in the plight of the distressed OFWs in the war-stricken Lebanon. It has been four weeks, since the bombing between Hezbollah and Israel started and we have approximately 30,000 OFWs who are in dire need for immediate repatriation.

For information: my Indian friend told me that their 47,000 Indian nationals were already evacuated by the Indian air-force and navy since last week. This action by the Indian government to the welfare of their nationals is worth mentioning considering India is also a Third World country, graft and corruption prevailing in the Indian government but what they did to repatriate immediately their nationals, the government action is commendable.

How can we rate the action of the Philippine government?

  25. Email from Amado Pascua:

Si Esteban Conejos ng Foreign Affairs ay napakayabang. Tama ang sabi mo na parang gago siya. Pag napapanood ko siya sa TFC sa Saudi kapag siya ay ini-interview, lipat agad ako ng channel dahil nakakabuwisit ang pagmumukha niya sa kayabangan. Ampaw ang mga pinagsasabi, kung baga walang laman kundi hangin.

  26. vic vic

Time will come that the demand for Pilipino Labour will diminish and if our government is not smart enough to start developing initiatives at home, then where will the “supermaids” and thousands of others go to find employment? As always we wait ’til the crisis hit us hard smack in our faces, before we wake up to reality, that there are a lot of ways to go forward to prosperity as a whole. Then we can start the game of finger pointing, blame each other, but in the end it is all of us and our future generation who are the losers.

  27. Ellen, I’m having problems accessing MLQ3’s blog. When I click on the link, another virtually unknown blog appears instead. Hmm.. I smell something fishy.

Regarding Emy Boncodin, it’s sad that she has succumbed to the Gloria’s bait. I understand her situation though. It’s probably a matter of life and death for her.

  28. Related story on the inefficiency and incompetence of this government of the fake president. Mt. Mayon has started spewing real lava and it’s no joke. I bet you the Midget must be jumping like crazy that she can have a valid excuse to try to divert attention from the OWWA fund to the collection of new donations for the now to be victims of the Mayon’s fury.

OK, so there were those useless emergency exercise that I could not help gasping in horror and shock at how crude the way they were teaching school kids for example about how to avoid inhaling sulphoric gas — by covering or pinching their noses with their small fingers!!! There was no talk of distributing masks to prevent them from inhaling poisonous gases. And the Midget proudly calls it readiness!!!

Now, let’s see if the other Mike of her life will make the usual Thursday announcement of her being rushed again to St. Luke’s hospital, gets out of the hospital on Saturday, then spendS whole Saturday and Sunday tinkering her laptop and reading messages of bloggers in Ellen’s or MLQ3’s blogs, or she may try to just leave the reading of the messages in this and other blogs to her Internet Brigade and just make them submit a report or two the following Monday, especially about hnow they have succeeded in breaking up discussions by pretending to be anti-GMA but when asked to take action, suddenly change stand and tactic and pretend to be the aggrieved ones.

Nice try indeed. But a lot many of us have met these people in other blogs and egroups, and we can easily spot them.

Now, what happens next is the Pandak makes an announcement on what her government intends to do to help the victims of this new calamity, and pretends to be real concerned. Then she makes a day or two to make a visit to the place of disaster but first someone has to tell her that everything is safe before she goes there. Sisiguraduhin muna niya siyempre kung magkano ang iaabuloy ng USA, Japan, etc. and then announce that she is going to have a big cross built there to be a common grave for the victims of the eruption in case she finds the villages around Mayon buried by molten lava together with residents there.

Sounds bizarre and grotesque? You bet, it is, but this is getting to be the usual and common scenario! Sad but true!

Puede ba, PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  29. Spartan:

Please mahabag kayo sa mga kababaihang pilipino. Super Atsay? Baka Super Tatsing may PU sa unahan! Heaven forbid!

  30. bystander,

I had the same problem this morning. Akala ko ako lang.
Thank God I was able to access after several try.

    ALL:

I hate to touch the Japayuki issue, [sana] kasi Pinay rin ako…at napakarami ang masasagasaan.

Katuwiran ng iba[when I saw one in a Supermarket], wala raw silang magawa kundi “sumama” sa mga Hapon,. kahit amoy-lupa na”[their exact words] dahil sa pangangailangan….

  31. Bystander, I guess MLG’s blog is undergoing admin work. We have the same administrator -wordpress. Mine had last weekend.

  32. Did you see Bunye say on TV that he wished other members of the Hyatt 10 would do the same as Boncodin? Gusto niya magkasakit rin ang lahat so that they will need money and go back begging before them.

It’s not Gloria’s money that they are giving Boncodin. It’s our money.

Look at how they exploit someone’s illness. Shameless.

  33. Just got a text from Manolo (MLQ). Yes, there is some administrative work being done. The blog should be back before midnight, he said.

  34. Ellen:

Mahirap talaga ang mga ganid sa pera. Nawawala ang prinsipyo. I feel sorry for these people, including this Boncodin.

They should be reminded over there that God provides as when He says, “Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?” (Luke 12: 24)

It’s actually a matter of faith as when God says, “I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.” (Ezek. 34:15)

I feel sorry for Boncodin. Bakit ba takot na takot silang mamatay. Ngayon mamamatay siyang walang dangal!

Hopefully, Dinky Soliman and the others will not follow suit, but be as brave as when she and the other members of the Hyatt 10 who stepped down and refused to be corrupted no more!

I was talking to my Japanese friends, especially those in contact with NGOs in the Philippines. They have noticed the present political set-up there especially with Ermita taking more and more active role in the running of the government.

Even officials here notice that with Arroyo gone, the Philippines is run by the military in something noticeably like a junta! Bakit ito hindi nakikita ng mga pilipino?

Parang “Beware of the Ides of March!”

  35. I can access Manolo’s blog, but with the repair it is getting, there is no message there now but ads.

Mayon ay saka sumabog at matabunan sya and her minions…yes yuko, napaka-super primitive ng emergency preparedness dito sa Pinas…kaya ang kayabangan ng ungas na yan ay puro ampao lang. she doesnt even know what she is blabbering about…only her buck-teeth gets attention (not what she’s sayin)whenever i happen to switch to a channel.
Its so sad to note that if ever there will be a major disaster like what happened in the TOkyo subway bombing or the 9/11 (God help us!) magnitude, kawawang kawawa talaga kami dito.

  37. Chabeli Chabeli

All the SUPERMAID GIMMICK of ARROVO is a ploy to merely divert attention from the issue of the OWWA funds “plus other anomalies ang bunglings that they have committed.”

    TONTA!

  38. soleil soleil

my kids are losing morale right now asking me why the bruha is saying super-maids instead of making better schools for children in the barrios or having better teachers. Ang school nila na exclusive have neophyte teachers kc the good ones are all going abroad. We cant blame them as the schools have their limits. Cycle na naman yan kc the parents in the end will suffer the tail of it all. May nakausap akong trainer nga sa TESDA. Inaaway daw sila ng mga applicants bcz of a so-called job fair done a month ago(i think) re call center na may mga opening daw ang mga sa TESDA daw pumunta. Ang kawawang TESDA(or so)ay pinutakte ng complaints whereas they have no idea what to do or even how they will move in regards to the so-called super-requirement daw for call center agents!..Ngek, sori to say but sometimes when i call for delivery frm McDo or others ay matitigas ang mga dila. Sana wag na silang mag-English kung hindi talaga sila sanay or there should really be a strict screening para di nakakahiya! Btw, the trainer frm TESDA, they have 500-1000 allowance for a 3-4 days/9-5 seminar in barangays that are requested by tongressman n tong-silors. these tongressmen and tong-silors are given budgets(or pork barrel)by tong-vernors or sena-tongs(na peke)para kunyari may ginagawa sila sa kani-kanilang barangays. ms yuko, nakikita namin ang kunyaring pamamalakad ng mga hayop na ito but we are all here on the sidelines kc ordinary juan dela cruz lang kami. if ever we will approach someone with some power, madalas may matinding kapalit din…or we can approach them kc nobody kami and di kami makalapit sa kanila na gusto naming mahingahan ng aming mga hinaing, mga vip pa rin sila khit man sila oposisyon or nt with the bruha.

  39. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

I admire and respect maids or domestic househelp (DH). It is a hard job, even here in the Philippines. Harder still if they end up abroad, especially the Middle East.

But for a President of a country to proudly shout to the whole world na humanda kayo coz our women are coming and will now become Super Maids is way, way out of line, to say the least. It sounds weird. Para bang disintunado. Like smiling while extending condolences to the family of a dearly departed one.

This Woman by the Pasig is an embarrassment. What is it with this woman? She just can’t seem to see the impropriety of what she does or says. Para bang nawalan na ng turnilyo.

More than her diarrhea, or flu or fatty liver, this Woman’s real problem is in her head, her distorted sense of what is right or wrong, what is proper or improper. Parang out of this world na. Imelda had her quirks and her fantasy world and weird quotes. But Imelda was entertaining, even comical in her ways. She regaled us and we just smiled amused.

But not this Woman by the Pasig. She generates passionate hate from the populace. She hisses like a venomous viper, laughs the laugh of a hoarse hyena while spouting incredulous plans and pronouncements that one would not expect of a leader of a country. Where did this woman get her education? Where did she learn her good manners and right conduct? Who taught her ethics? She bashes our rights against the wall. She shovels into the pockets of the taxpayers. She cheats and lies like there was no tomorrow. No wonder she has the distinct honor of being the most disliked “president” this country ever had.

This woman has gone weird. Just one boo-boo after another and there seems to be no end to it. And this virus has spread to her Fortress Minions and House of Chimps. Next time she visits St. Luke’s, she should drop by a shrink.

  40. npongco npongco

Ms. Ellen, among the Hyatt 10 I already doubted Boncodin’s joining the group from day one. First, she was very quiet and reserved. Unlike the vocal and outspoken Dinky Soliman, Boncodin was quiet and seemed uninterested during that press conference. Then, Boncodin didn’t attend many of the succeeding media meetings. Without doubting her illness; but knowing how Malacanang operates, Boncodin could be one of the moles planted in Hyatt 10. If she’s really in need of job and money for her illness, there are many big corporations that could hire her with her experience and skills. Why work for the government again when she knew she would have to interact with Malacanang people again? If only to preserve the prestige of the Hyatt 10, she should not have accepted that Petron job. Now, I doubt her role at Hyatt 10.

    About Bunye, he’s now called Dumbunye…dumb !

I should know because I also volunteer for Tokyo English Life Line (TELL) and give advices to culture-shocked Filipino women!!! Nakakaawang nakakainis kasi pati kasal binabastos o pinagkakakuwartahan!!! Tarantado talaga!

  42. alitaptap alitaptap

Yuko, I admire your straight talk. I know TESDA is listening and they should be reeling now with your one-two punch: palpak, tarantado … attagirl!

In an Arab League meeting, the Lebanese PM broke down narrating how his country is suffering under the hands of Israel. It was an emotional meeting among the Arab nations. The Arab nations’ anger could have a great impact to the region. Moderates and those that take a neutral stand could switch to the side of Lebanon thereby indirectly favoring the Hezbollah militants.

To the US, Israel and their allies, Hezbollah is a terrorist group. To the Hezbollah supporters and Lebanese people, it’s a resistance movement against Israeli aggression.

The US and Israel want Hezbollah be disarmed and leave Lebanon. But, they fail to recognize the fact that Hezbollah has become part of the Lebanese political system wherein many Hezbollah representatives have been elected to the government through a democratic process. Why should these Hezbollah be asked to leave when they are now part of the Lebanese government?

The Lebanese PM broke down with tears falling from his eyes. It was a very touching speech to the Arab League. While the US pretends to call for an end to the crisis, Israel continues to bomb most parts of Lebanon including its capital Beirut. Infrastractures were destroyed. Main roads leading to safer territories were heavily damaged. Even hospitals are now being attacked. Power plants were bombed causing the recent oil spill in the Lebanon sea around Beirut. It has now become an environmental problem that will take years to remedy. Thousands have already been killed mostly civilians.

Today, it’s easy to determine who are the culprits in this bloody conflict. Bombing the entire nation and killing thousands of women and children was not an answer to the recovery of one young Israel soldier. Putting sea blockade at the outset of the Israel’s attack was in itself a sign of evil intention. Why the blockade in the sea? What has commercial and humanitarian shipment of aides got to do with the war?

Israel’s long term evil plan in the region encouraged by the US has become more evident as the crisis continues.

Let’s now turn to Arroyo’s foreign policy. Arroyo promptly echoed America’s line that Israel’s self-defending herself.
Recently, House Speaker De Venecia even proposed to contribute a small RP peacekeeping force. This pro-Western position by this Arroyo government only further angers our Muslim brothers. This is not the time for our government to take sides. Arroyo should have considered the local Muslims who sympathize with their brothers in Lebanon against Israel. But what does she care anyway? As long as she continues to make Bush and the US happy, she is assured of longer stay in Malacanang.

There’s a report that just came in that eight Pinay OFWs were sexually abused and raped by some Syrian guards at the Evacuation Center.

  45. Mlq3’s bolg is up and running again.

Ellen, is this true? Vicky and Tomas Toh were cleared by Customs Comm. Boy Morales of smuggling. Ngek. Also, Mon tulfo’s show was aired last Saturday over RPN 9, I guess the LQ with Big Mike is over.

  46. npongco npongco

schumey: Yes, Vicky Toh and her brother were cleared by Custom. It was expected. It was all Toh-ks and no action. About Mon Tulfo’s returning to his program, it’s also expected. A goon will always be a goon. He got the candies that he wanted.

  47. Excerpts from a press briefing by Sen. Franklin Drilon:

They have also a supplemental budget of P500 million as standby repatriation fund. It is a separate item but it is also part of the supplemental budget. This is in addition to the P46.4 billion. Necessarily, this will entail clarification as to the utilization of the OWWA funds for repatriation.
Q: You are not initially inclined to approve that P500 million?

FMD: We want to hear them. I don’t want to make any conclusion. We want precisely a briefing on all of these.

Q: Saan manggagaling ang OWWA repatriation funds under the proposal?

SFMD: The P500 million is part of the supplemental budget under the national treasury.

Q: And they will source it from…

SFMD: From the national treasury, not the OWWA funds.

Q: Do you have an issue with that?

SFMD: We need an explanation why it cannot be sourced from OWWA.

Q: The Senate investigation revealed that OWWA has about P6.4 billion in banks. Would that be a factor in your consideration of approving the P500 million additional funds for repatriation?

SFMD: All of these, we would like to listen to. The policy issue is, should repatriation be sourced from OWWA funds or from the general fund? Because the OWWA funds are contributed by documented workers. These are sourced from funds contributed by the employers of documented workers. Necessarily, there is no contribution to the OWWA fund from the undocumented workers. Question; can you use the OWWA funds for repatriation?

Q: Ano po ang opinion ninyo dito?

SFMD: I don’t want to express an opinion. I want precisely to listen to the justification of the executive on that.

Q: The former commissioner of OWWA said as a rule, the OWWA should repatriate or be in the assistance of any Filipino in distress. Do you find that statement as any ground…?

SFMD: Precisely, that is an issue. Because under the Migrant Workers’ Act, Section 15, only the initial fund of P100 million as repatriation fund will be sourced from the OWWA. Subsequent to that, after the exhaustion of the P100 million, it is supposed to be sourced from the General Appropriations Act. Question; does that imply, as a matter of policy, it should be the GAA which should cover repatriation cost or can it be justified under the OWWA charter?

Q: Should the undocumented Filipinos in Lebanon be evacuated also? Would that justify the supplemental budget… they may not be covered by the OWWA fund?

SFMD: Precisely, the implied policy under the Migrant Workers’ Act is that repatriation should be sourced out of the GAA, covering both documented and undocumented. On the other hand, the OWWA fund was precisely put up as a fund for the benefit of the overseas Filipino workers. The contribution, however, is only from the documented workers. So these are policy issues, which must be threshed out.

Q: What is your sense right now?

SFMD: I will listen. What is the use of hearing this if we already have a stand?

Q: But the Senate policy will still be to bring back Filipinos?

SFMD: Certainly to bring them back; where you will source the funds is precisely the issue that we would have to tackle during the hearings. (end)

  48. Alitaptap:

Thanks. Frankly, what I say is what I have gained as knowledge in my involvement in helping track these Filipinos in Japan, especially those who are trying hard to stay here even by illegal means and with the sanction of their corrupt government that I doubt the Americans really tolerate and support regardless of the present need to have a US base again in the Philippines.

I’ve been talking in fact to members of our church who work in the US embassy and the US base in Tokyo, and boy were they shocked when I told them about the Super Maid thing!

They actually feel sorry for these Filipino professionals, who are being driven out of their country to work overseas as maids and even prostitutes as those young girls and boys who used to be deployed to Japan but since the ban on the Japayukis since last year, they are now deployed to South Korea and getting sneaked into the North as stated by some Japanese tourists who have visited the North recently mentioning seeing some of them working at some bars there. believe you me!

The US in fact was used by Japan as a great excuse in implementing the revised Immigration Law that had long been in the making and was just waiting there to be enforced with less criticism from such countries as the Philippines where the human trafficking to Japan mainly originated. At least, those women being smuggled from the US and South Americas were on their own and their government had nothing to do with their deployment to entertain the perverts here unlike those women from the Philippines who were even equipped by their government with some blue book to make them really look genuine and authentic pleasure commodity!!!

The truth is there are less Filipinos now employed as domestic helpers by members of the US diplomatic corps because of some incident that happened years ago regarding a US diplomat being charged with breach of contract even when there was no such thing just because he would not abide by the Immigration rule here of paying his maid the minimum wage of 150,000 yen required by the Japanese Immigration for hiring foreign maids. The case was dismissed though by a Japanese court because there was no proof that the US diplomat had breached any such contract aside from the fact that he, as a diplomat, enjoyed some diplomatic immunity that Japan wanted to abide by. Since then, I understand that US diplomats would rather employ the less fussy Sri Lankans, who are not bled and sucked raw by their government despite the equally dismal condition and poverty in their country. Some US patronage that is, don’t you think?

Come to think of it. The Filipinos are taken in as maids because they are cheap, but make them Super Maids and and ask for higher fees, you’ll see them ending up jobless and their jobs taken by the less fussy and cheap laborers from Sri Lanka, etc. 😛

As if you are supporting sex trades. We all know that the entertainer recieves an amount which is slightly higher that the maid. Okey pero huwag mo na ipagmayabang pa yong additional na kita kasi that is behind the scene na.Di ko na babangitin dito kung ano yon, nakakahiya. Hindi tip lang.kundi SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. The best thing for you to do in fact is not scan the picture of the midget, but take a picture of it with your digital camera. It is what I do with pictures I am lazy to scan with my A4 scanner-printer-copier.

I have this old Mavica that can take real good pictures, and the pictures saved in FDs. I still use it for taking better pictures. Otherwise, I take along my other camera that can take videos small enough to be carried around in my backpack.

For some reason, I have become rather calmer and more spiritually inclined to leave matters to God for there indeed is a purpose for what is presently happening to even the program of the Pandak to sell her countrymen overseas and getting backfired by war, etc. Now, she faces also problems at home that I doubt have anything to do with US covert operations everywhere! It is more an act of God. I just pray that there will be less casualties among the innocent.

Pathetic!

Sabi nga, “God cannot be mocked!” Take heed in this verse in the Scriptures, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Gal. 6: 7)

off topic yuko…can u suggest a university or “quiet” city in japan?..my son is planning to go there next year and take some immersion course…i mean to feel independent and feel the culture. hindi na namin sya pipigilan ng hubby ko (since may 1/4 japanese blood din ang lolo nya)kc adult na din sya but i am still a mother n worried for young adults to be alone in city so advance and very “modern”..meaning many temptations…thanks for bearing with my question ha

  57. I can suggest the Community College at the Sophia (Jochi) University where they have classes in English. Another one will the ICU, but I don’t know if they offer summer courses. There are also some US university with campuses in Tokyo such as Columbia U and Temple University.

You may try to inquire from the Japan Information Center if you are based in Manila. Ask for Cecil Tolentino if she is still there and has not retired. She is my senpai. She can give you some advice.

Japan is fairly a safe place to go to. There are places in Tokyo that should be off limits like Asakusa, but otherwise it is fairly safe. Walang nangingikil na pulis dito, for a starter. Then, of course, it’s just a matter of common sense, and being able to abide by the rules. It is not as dangerous as NYC or even SFO.

ICU is International Christian University, more protestant than Catholic.

Tokyo is the capital of Japan with 23 boroughs and cities. Yokohama is out in Kanagawa and yes not as busy as Tokyo for that matter.

I live in Tokyo with my husband and son, but we’re looking for a house and lot in Yokohama because the water there tastes better somewhere out in the bondocks maybe.

Yokohama was the port area opened to foreigners prior to WWII that is why it is famous to foreigners. Nevertheless, Japan is still a fairly safe place to live in compared to some cities in the USA, and Manila for that matter.

  66. Spartan:

You bet!

Hypocrite talaga. Pag dating sa mga kabulastugan, ang gagaling!

  68. Come to think of it!

In response to the query what happened to the two RP Navy boats supposed to leave for Lebanon, here’s one I posted earlier in another topic of this blog:

Now who says the two RP Navy boats have left for Lebanon? They’re still arguing about it and now is even junking it. In the meantime, the poor OFWs are suffering from extreme anxieties and uncertainties…

Plan to send 2 Coast Guard
    boats to Lebanon junked

    By Sam Mediavilla, Reporter

Task Force Lebanon on Tuesday is likely to turn down the plan to send two Philippine Coast Guard cutters to bring home Filipino evacuees in Lebanon.

Vice President Noli de Castro, the task force leader, said the plan was impractical because the trip from Manila to Lebanon would take as long as 20 days.

Moreover, he said, the plan was too expensive since the fuel alone for the two boats would cost at least P93 million.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Gilbert Asuque in a radio interview on Tuesday said there is also a $

thank u again for the infos Ms Yuko…really appreciate them. I guess we will ask about Yokohama more. Whether its a non-sectarian educ institute or not, its all up to the person where he will put his heart on. even if my kids are frm exclusive catholic schools, i admit we are not regular church goers, i leave them on their own conviction cz they can alwys attend mass in their schools kahit araw-araw pa!guidance and honesty lang ang sa akin. but me and hubby, even if we met in a church group(i honestly say that we have “diversified”)…we attend “regular” church on-goings if need be like weddings, baptism, mass if we have to, but i go to china on pilgirmage to some temples myself…i still read the Bible and hats off to u friends here who can quote frm Bible verses, bc i am not able to…i rspect all religions(as my kids do)and am realy sad to wat is happening to our muslim brothers in Lebanon to be in the middle of greedy businessmen…kasama na ang pamahalaang ito.
I think that picture was taken 10 years ago at tinapyasan ang mga panga but there is no way na pwede retokihin ang buck-teeth nya…

  71. 30,000 Filipinos stranded in Lebanon. That would have been a big crowd to protest against the inefficiency and incompetence of those running the government now to save ALL of them, not just those who are lucky to find their way out of Lebanon.

This is not because of America as the Internet Brigader of the Pandak want to put into the heads of bloggers in this and other egroups to discuss the problems of the Philippines. I doubt if the Americans even care what the Filipinos do to themselves.

OK, so the Americans provide those proofs for the Filipinos to do something about their domestic problems that would not even have any bearing on America, but the Filipinos are on their own to remove or JUST TIIS this bunch of criminals and outlaws leading them to perdition.

Unfortunately, those who can instigate these people to action are gunned down before they can even gather these wannabe protesters, and the crooks given the opportunity to distort facts, even intimidate and harrass those they cannot persuade to believe their lies and deceptions.

As usual, all that we can do right now is pray for those Filipinos who are unable to leave Lebanon before the US comes and tries to save their Israeli brothers even with the use of sophisticate DUD bombs, etc. to wipe out the whole Moslem race!
