“We pray for the President, that she may have forbearance, good health, and tolerance to lead this nation until 2010, and who knows, perhaps even beyond,” Press Secretary Jesus Dureza said yesterday as he recited his prayer at the start of the Cabinet meeting.
“Oh my God!” and a glare were what Dureza got from a shocked President Arroyo, who covered her face.
At the end of the prayer, a smiling Arroyo asked media men who were allowed to cover that portion of the meeting to leave the room as she said “that prayer is off the record.”
Dureza later also asked media if they could refrain from releasing the videos of the prayer portion.
An “off the record” request from media is normally made before any event, and honored. The request is never honored after coverage.
Dureza clarified they initially asked that the prayer be “off the record” for fear it would be misinterpreted or taken in a different light.
He also said he was not reprimanded by the President for his “personal prayer” and it was not even mentioned when he talked to the President after the Cabinet meeting when he inquired about her phone conversation with United States President-elect Barack Obama.
Dureza said while his prayer gave a nice angle to media reports and fuelled speculations on moves to amend the Constitution to extend Arroyo’s term beyond 2010, “I said that in that context (of personal and private capacity), so you don’t have to milk it and give it another spin.”
In a media briefing after the Cabinet meeting, Dureza said he was not praying for an extension of Arroyo’s term. He said he simply wished that Arroyo would be able to continue on a “personal and private capacity on serving beyond 2010.”
Dureza said his prayer was meant to be “light” and with a “sense of humor” which he said was accepted and even laughed off by the President and the Cabinet men.
He said those who took his prayer the wrong way had no sense of humor.
Dureza at the start of the meeting prayed for the Cabinet to be blessed and to be able to attend to their own “personal affairs” and the “affairs of the State” and for Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap who recently celebrated his birthday to be “blessed.”
He also prayed for newly elected Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile whom he described as the oldest to assume the post. Enrile is 84 years old.
Dureza was praying to the Devil, not God. May the Devil grant unto him his prayer.

I saw the news coverage of this and what I noticed is that.. for me, it seems that the people present in that “gathering” was somewhat expecting such “thing” would occur.. if you would notice MIDGET’s eyes were rolling and she is “inconvenient” while Dureza was praying that as if she was waiting for that now-famous “line”..
Parang scripted.. and knowing MIDGET once she gets angry.. She really gets angry with a capital “A” (remember the teleprompter incident?) but in this case, she was “saw covering her face …” as if the act has been rehearsed many times.. again, hindi ganung magalit si MIDGET!
My take is, this is their way of ‘testing the waters’.. They try to slowly get the take note also that it happened after the Senate Coup..
Kapansin-pansin tlaga na iba ung expression nya ng “galit” nya.. I even noticed the lady standing behind her during the prayer that the lady was looking at MIDGET as if expecting her “to do” something anytime during the prayer..
The news story started saying that Dureza forgot his “prepared prayer” so he will just pray “straight from his heart”.. I don’t know but I am really not convinced by this one..
First time I heard of people using prayer to test the water and achieve their selfish interest. Prayer should be sincere, solemn and a communication to God. In fact, unlike what most Catholics do with their eyes open, one should close his eyes while praying in order to be focused and not distracted. Without offense to Catholics, take note that many who pray the rosary are looking around as if what they do is purely ritual. Is this called prayer? That’s why Dureza and the rest of the cabinet members including the Evil Bitch had a good laugh after the prayer. God will have the last laugh…
Arroyo has only single options laid out for 2010. But given her rock bottom credibility, the numerous scandals hounding her, and the tension in , surviving the moment should be her more immediate concern.She is praying hard in high heaven and through deep hell, Arroyo is preparing for a scenario that Charter change will not push through and she will really have to step down in June 2010.

The three-page indictment alleges that Cheney profited from the abuse because he invested $85 million in a mutual fund company which holds shares of for-profit prisons.
It said this was a “direct conflict of interest” because Cheney had influence over the federal contracts awarded to the prison companies.

One clear example is Gloria Arroyo.She encourages her photographers to take pictures of her when she is in deep prayer.
When I think of all the scandals and scams associated with her administration,I start wondering whether politics and religion can really mix in Malacanang.
Whatever religion people belong to, making fun and joking at prayer is a grave sin. Such stupid thing committed by no less than the country’s Press Secretary and laughed at by the evil President will never be forgiven by God.
Equalizer, prayer should be a private communication between the one praying and God. It should not be displayed in public much more televised. I think the bible describe such people as hypocrites. That’s my opinion, though.

Dureza’s prayer is being repeatedly played by media especially ABS-CBN. I can’t help notice the Evil Bitch’s facial reaction. While Dureza was praying, her eyes were open as if waiting for something. When Dureza was saying “Who knows…”,
her eyes became big and was already starting to smile. Obviously, she was expecting what Dureza would say as proven by her premature reaction.
We all know that Dureza, when he speaks in front of the camera and says that “The President is too busy attending to her job to solve problems of the country to think about her detractors” and lying thru his teeth, aside from him being too clever and too careful on what words will come out from his mouth during press briefing, will be having slip of the tounge in this prayer?… ang maniwala sa ganyang argument TANGA!
If it were another cabinet member who prayed, maybe the suspicion would be less. But gosh, it was the Press Secretary! His job is to issue statements coming from the President and Malacanang. By mentioning that in his prayer, everyone believes he’s sending a message. Dureza explained that it was his own prayer to the Lord. But doesn’t this idiot know that he was praying in a cabinet meeting and not alone? And that he prayed on behalf of the government and country? The less talk, the better for him.

Cabral (not Cabal) and the DSWD are not clean, if you can read between the lines of the ADB report which says a huge percentage of the poverty alleviation funds that were released did not reach the intended recipients. That includes the P500 electricity doleout, the food-for-school and many other Social Welfare programs.
