Kung totoo na 65 ang kasama na kongresista, ibig sabihin noon one fourth ng buong Kongreso ay dala ni Arroyo. May nagsasabi na pauna na raw ito ni Arroyo sa inaasahan nilang panibagong impeachment complaint na isasampa.
Noong panahon ni Fidel Ramos, dalawa lang na congressmen at dalawa ring senador ang kasama sa mga biyahe niya sa ibang bansa bilang kinatawan ng legislative department. Ngayon 65? Grabe.
Tago naman naman ng tago sina Nograles at Arroyo ng pangalan.Kung walang masama sa kanilang ginagawa, bakit tinatago? Kung ano-ano pang palusot ni Nograles. Porke’t recess naman daw at hindi naman daw lahat gastos ng pamahalaan.
Kung totoo man yun, bakit ayaw pa rin ilabas ang mga pangalan para malaman kung tama o mali ang nasa report na 65 na congressmen ang kasama. Sigurado mayroon din kasamang local officials yan.
Sabi pa ni Nograles, hindi naman daw sila naglili-waliw lang dahil nagtatrabaho naman daw sila kasama ni Arroyo. Talaga? Ang hirap nga naman magshopping sa Amerika. Nakakapagod. Kawawa naman ang ating mga kongresista.
Ang alam ko lang na hindi kasama ay si Iloilo Rep. Arthur Defensor na napagkamalan kong kasama sa Amerika. Nabasa ko sa Inquirer na kinansela Defensor ang biyahe sa Europe dahil sa bagyo.
May ililabas ang Inquirer na listahan ng mga kasama ni Arroyo sa kanyang pagpasarap sa Amerika.Ang nangunguna ay ang magkapati na Arroyo, sina Mikey at datu. Siyempre kasama ang kanilang mga asawa at malamang mga anak kasama pa ang mga yaya.

I’ve just posted something about this over excitement over USS Ronald Reagan in a previous thread…
Let’s put it this way: US Ronald Reagan’s being around cuts both ways; it’s good for Pinas who can avail of some professional help (Philippine Coast Guard can do with loads of professional help) but in the same token, it’s also one fabulous diplomatic coup for the much hated, lame-duck Dubya Bush who happens to be chatting up Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, discussing White House kitchen help while the Philippines is being pummelled by the effects of Typhoon Frank’s devastation.
My guess is that anyway, the USS Ronald Reagan was already in the vicinity so, to turn around and head for Pinas to extend some help to their distraught brown brothers (while Gloria fiddles abroad) is just a fantastic US diplomatic gambit for Bush, for the US, and for any future US president. I kid thee not!
But let’s not get carried away, OK? It’s not as if USS RR was ordered to sail all the way from San Diego to reach Pinas in 3 days! She’s probably already in transit and the Americans merely diverted her — anyway, very nice of them to do that to show sympathy for their poor friends in Pinas (better than thick-skinned Gloria who couldn’t give a bloody shit)… Any nation with an aircraft carrier (except China but China’s in a bit of a bind too at the moment) in the vicinity would have done the same. The US ship being in the proximity did the right thing and her presence is a welcome diversion!
What one might take issue with regarding the presence of USS Double R in Philippine waters not because she’s American but because Philippine Charter prohibits the presence of nuclear-armed warships (USS Ronald Reagan is nuclear propelled for certain) in Philippine waters. In other words, her presence in Philippine waters may be violating RP laws.
That said, Ronald Reagan is safe and safer perhaps than most Pinoy commercial and military vessels. There’s no real worry (except if she starts spewing toxic waste in Manila Bay just like what happened when the American bases were still up and running in Subic.) But the real problem is how can the Philippines reconcile this offered American hand which is potentially nuclear-armed with its Charter? The law is the law and RP Constitution is very specific, so there lies the dilemma.
Again, there’s nothing to go overboard about. USS Ronald Reagan’s presence in Pinas is a perfect PR coup for Dubya Bush.
Don’t forget — US aircraft carriers go by the following agressive dogma: “90,000 tons of US diplomacy anywhere, anytime” or “4-and-a-half acres of US sovereign territory when and where it’s needed!”

I am sure the Sulpicio ships are covered with marine insurances. The insurance primarily indemnifies third parties, passengers and even the owners on accidents except when brought about by the act of God or force majeure, act of war, and many alibis agreed upon as terms and conditions in the fine prints of the policy. What is covered basically is negligence of the crew that caused the accident that the insurer will pay up. Apparently, the supreme court as linked with the warrior lawyers did the messy job of coming out with the negligence verdict of the crew. Off hand, I’ll say anything is possible. But from latest photo shots, Princess of the Stars is already more than half-sunk and I believe the only hope of changing her position is to pump water and air to change the ballast in the hope of tilting the ship the right way up.
But that would mean sacrificing any survivor trapped inside. Callous as this may sound, I’m of the opinion that after 7 days in water, there’s little hope of survivors but as you say, the efforts should be if at all destined for retrieval of the corpses buried inside.
Tying buoyancy bags around the ship but I mean heavy, heavy duty, big, very big buoyancy bags is something salvagers are capable of doing again in the hope of tilting the right way up.
Professional salvage companies can do this — there are some in Europe and in the US who could definitely do this but will cost an arm and a leg. There are professional salvage companies (also popularly known as the vultures of the sea) in the northwest coast of France (Brittany where I’ve made myself and adopted daughter) that have salvaged tankers the size of Amoco Cadiz so doing something to raise the Princess of the Stars shouldn’t be much of a problem.
You already mentioned rescuers torching their way in — but haven’t they done that yet?

OO, it was actually one sub cut in the middlewith both of the cut portions protruding out of the bay about 200 meters from shore. Sayang wala pang internet noon, I could have uploaded the pic pero it was gone with the fire that burned our house back in the 80s
