Sa dami ng krisis na nangyari sa bansa, dalawa ang umaalsa at tumatak sa buong mundo: ang panghu-hostage ng mga turista na taga-Hongkong sa Luneta noong Agosto 23, 2010 at ang bagyong Yolanda na na bumayo sa Visayas noong isang linggo.
Hanggang ngayon hindi pa sarado ang epekto ng nangyari na kapalpakan noong nang hostage ang isang pulis sa Luneta. Walo ang patay. Nakita doon ang kawalan ng liderato sa Malacañang.
Pwede sigurong pagpasensyahan yun dahil dalawang buwan pa lang siyang presidente noon. Ngunit itong nangyari sa Leyte, Samar at iba pang parte ng Visayas pagkapatapos ang pananalasa ni Yolanda ay talagang nakakadismaya na nakakagalit dahil palpak na nga, mayabang pa.
Sa interview sa local na media at kay Christian Amanpour ng CNN, ang pinagdidikdikan niya ay kakulangan ng lokal na pamahalaan (talaga naman itong si Alfred Romualdez ay isa ring opisyal na sayang ang binabayad ng taumbayan) at hindi raw 10,000 ang patay. Sobra lang daw 2,200.
Bakit kung 2,200 ba kalimutan na lang ang kakulangan ng pamahalaan? Kahit isa lang, dagok pa rin yun. Buhay pa rin yun.
Ang solusyun nila, tanggalin sa puwesto si Chief Superintendent Elmer Soria, ang opisyal na nagbigay ng 10,000 casualties na estimate, sa kanyang puwesto. Ngayon tumataas na ang bilang. Umaabot na sa sobra 4,000 at hindi pa rin naman nakuha ang bilang ng mga nasawi sa liblib na mga barangay. Paano ngayon yan?
Tatlong taon pa si Aquino sa Malacañang. Sana naman natuto na siya. Hindi natin maiiwasan ang krisis. Huwag naman sana tayo magkakaroon ng krisis sa liderato.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Sadya ba’ng binibitiwan ang matatamis na pangako upang mapako lang sa bandang huli?
Ito ang namumunini sa isipan ng evacuees na nananatili sa Joaquin F. Enriquez Sport Center (JFE)—ang
pinakamalaking evacuation center sa Zamboanga City—kaugnay ng mga ipinangako sa kanila ng gobyerno, sa pamamagitan nina Pangulong Benigno S. Aquino III at Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.
Anila, nangako sina Pangulong Aquino at Roxas na magkakaroon sila ng maayos na pamumuhay, disenteng bahay at sapat na pagkain kapag natapos na ang bakbakan ng militar at ng Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).
“Ngayon, pakiramdam namin ay pinabayaan na nila kami. Ang atensiyon na lang nila ay nasa mga biktima ng lindol at bagyong ‘Yolanda’ na matinding nanalasa sa Tacloban,” himutok ng isang grupo ng evacuees sa JFE.
“Saan na ang pangako n’yo, Mr.President at Secretary Roxas?” aniya. “Hirap na hirap kami dito sa evacuation center dahil madumi rito at walang pagkain.”
Ayon sa isang 41-anyos at ayaw magpabanggit ng pangalan na evacuee, na kasama ang limang anak sa JFE, mistulang napabayaan na sila ng gobyerno at nakalimutan na ang pangako sa kanilang ibabalik sila sa kani-kanilang komunidad kapag natapos na ang bakbakan, na umabot ng tatlong linggo.
Sinabi ng impormante na mahigit 30 evacuee sa JFE ang namatay sa komplikasyon na dulot ng maruming
kondisyon at kawalan ng pagkain. Sinabi niyang binibigyan sila ng food packs ng Zamboanga City Social
Welfare and Development Office kada lima hanggang anim na araw, ngunit karaniwang nakatambak lang ang bigas at iba pang relief items sa bodega ng nasabing tanggapan sa JFE at nababasa ng ulan—pero ibinibigay pa rin sa evacuees.
Ayon sa kanila, napipilitan na ring magnakaw ang ilang evacuees upang makasapat sa araw-araw na pangangailangan ng kani-kanilang pamilya.
“Hindi mangyayari ang pagnanakaw kung binibigyan nila kami ng pagkain. Minsan, binibigyan nila kami ng bulok na bigas, na ‘pag niluto at kinain ay sumasakit ang tiyan namin at nagtatae kami,” sabi pa ng impormante.
“Pauwiin na nila kami. Miserable ang buhay dito sa evacuation; walang kuryente, natutulog kami sa lapag,
limitado ang tubig at mabaho rito araw-araw,” himutok pa niya.
Natatandaan nilang sinabi ni Pangulong Aquino na maglalaan ang gobyerno ng P3.9 bilyon para sa
agarang rehabilitasyon ng Zamboanga City.
Daan-daan ang nasawi sa 23-araw na paglalaban ng militar at MNLF, at mahigit 122,000 katao ang lumikas

Pnoy is a good man, intelligent and adequately qualified to be the President of the Philippines compared to his rivals during the election. The problem is that he is not that strong in leading his men (wala syang kamay na bakal). The cause of delay in the relief distribution is the lack of equipment to clear the roads or we are not really technically equipped for this kind of situation. Why? Because the vast part of the government funds are being pocketed by our leaders whom we depend upon and rely in times of crisis. Still the root of all of this tragedy is the “corruption”. If Pnoy can do something about this, only then that the Philippine Government can gain respect from allied countries.
SAbay sabay ang kalamidad. It is also tough to prioritize which one you have to do first. The government shoudd be just an enabler and not a PROVIDER. SAna naman may kuasang tulong din sa sarili and mga kababayan nation. This is for their own dignity. Kung any lahat ng baggy ay nakaasa lang sa gobierno at sa tulong ng bang bans, we will never recover.
Ingat na ingat si Pnoy na magbigay ng kahit na ano sa mga politiko dahil alam niya na ma-kucorrupt lang ito. So if his actions are slow, I know that it is for a reason. He has to make sure that this time around, the resources will not be wasted and it will go to the beneficiaries. This requires a lot of planning and organization. I am pretty sure that all of us are inundated with all these unforeseen events. We have to learn to be patient and understanding. Di lang pwedeng sisi na lang tayo ng sisi sa gobierno. Everyone should also try to help themselves with the little that is left. I am pretty sure that our kababayans will recover. Necessity is the mother of an invention. Meron ding kahihinatnan and lahat ng mga trials na ito. We just have to learn to be more patient and understanding and not do the BLAME game.
They know a big storm is coming and yet they underestimated it. When it finally happen, they drag their feet to do what must be done. Instead they are blaming LGU’s who are themselves a victim. Sila na rin umamin na ang LGU were also victims. How can the local government function kung yung mga funds is controlled by the very few??? Blame game… Yeah I blame them!! And I’m thanking the foreign donors more than these assholes in government!
By the way, the people help themselves to survive. Their immediate relatives and friends help them one way or another at their own perile! Did you know, according to one comment of some volunteers repacking food packs that I read about that they were instructed to repack donations from Indonesia that already packed to another with DSWD or NFA label… What does that tell you?? Andersen Cooper did a truthful job. Foreign countries, specially the US and UN did an excellent job! Our government… They can have my middle finger!
It just right for the people to rely to its government under this circumstances because we have them and allow them, as elected leaders, to dispose of and use our funds paid for thru taxes in whatever shape or form for this very reason! And yet when this calamity happened, all they do is complain! Louder than the ones who really suffered…considering that they have the people resources at their disposal!!!
Like his late mother, Pnoy was elected on mere popularity and at a time when people’s sympathy and love were with them. Cory was selected (not elected) by the anti-Marcos groups. She was picked over Doy Laurel who agreed to be the Vice with a condition of power sharing. Unfortunately, Cory broke her promise not because she wanted but through the pressure and influence exerted by the Yellow Brigade and Cardinal Sin led Catholic Church. Doy died a disappointed man.
On the other hand, Pnoy’s decision to run for President in 2010 was very timely. His mother just passed away. To show respect and admiration for Cory and even Ninoy, people picked Pnoy despite knowing his inexperience and lack of leadership. And people’s hatred for GMA contributed a lot to replacing her with anyone but those allied or identified with her. Let’s not forget that INC also supported Pnoy instead of Erap; first time the powerful religious group dumped Erap. 2 or 3 million INC votes helped no matter how one looked at it. Despite INC’s non-endorsement, Erap still placed second. To think that he was convicted of plunder, placing second was an achievement itself.
Pnoy’s poor leadership and inexperience showed in his handling of Muslim rebels who invaded Sabah to reclaim the area resulting in a number of Filipino Muslims’ death. Instead of helping settle the dispute, Pnoy sided with Malaysia, the country that took Sabah originally belonged to the Philippines. The peace pact with MILF was another plunder at the expense of Misuari led MNLF group that resulted in the recent Zamboanga crisis. Internationally, the country’s diplomatic relationship with some countries like Taiwan and China failed due to Pnoy’s poor handling. Now came this typhoon “Yolanda”. Due to his incompetence, the relief effort was delayed and even failed until foreign countries came to rescue.
My comments is neither personal or political! Nothing to do with pnoy being a strong leader or not but more on the collective action of our government in general! I find them I’ll prepared and lacking centralized to a very few most of the times don’t know what must be done… Very reactive without foresight!
What is it that the President could have done better? You cant fly the planes and helicopters immediately there. I believe relief came as soon as it was safe to do so. The local govt should have done more to restore order. Where were the police and military? I know they were affected too but priorities change when you join these outfits. Your duty to family comes second only to country.
Where were the policemen? As reported in one newspaper, some cops with one even in uniform were among those who looted the grocery.

Army Troops beside training for Combat should also be trained for search and rescue missions and since Military personnel have the logistic in form of all weather transport and crafts, it is best in Rapid response missions to clear the paths for relief missions.
There will be regular storms and typhoons to visit the Phl every season and it is time to have the Home Trained and Equipped personnel and the world can not be coming to Aid one after the other disaster. The Phl must be self sufficient and it is the best to start the preparation NOW…after this latest crisis is over.

They were there immediately after the storm, many known personalities in our national leadership! They got there by helicopters. They held a meeting with whoever is left with the LGU. These people suggested what was needed to include peace and order issues since looting is going on. Footages of looting is shown by a local news outfit. Five days after the storm, they were blaming instead of acting! Tacloban airport, with runways accessible is still lacking with supplies…what happen to the supplies? What happens to the big military presence to make search and rescue or order happen? And yet they still expect a wipe out LGU to tell them what to do! The LGU is not capable at the time to act. Even if they can, the resources is controlled by the national government.
What they can do? After the many calamities…. Stop talking, stop making excuses…work! Just like during elections, money flows left and right like the way they go from one province to the next on helicopters!
Except for a few hard working LGUs, many of the local leaders saved themselves and families first. Take Tacloban Mayor Romualdez for instance, he immediately sent his beautiful wife and children to Manila. And where’s Bohol Rep Arthur Yap who was former GMA puppet?
Vic, Canada has always been helpful as usual that’s why it’s well loved by other countries. But lately, she has been doing what her big brother does internationally; that is, interfering in other countries’ internal problems. However, after giving him ample time to prove himself as a leader worthy of our trust respect and praise for the man deminished NOT only because of his turning blind eye on the strings of kapalpakan members of his inner circle get involved with but because of HIS never ending blame on the previous administration whenever and wherever he is given an opportunity to address a crowd. He seemed like acting a pre-schooler who always puts blame on anyone before him when trapped in the middle of crossroads.
Mr. Rivera, pls don’t regret voting for Pnoy then getting disappointed. Most like you voted for him. Many got carried away by his popularity and at that time mourning for his mother Cory. Actually, Pnoy was reluctant to run for president ’cause he knew he could not handle such a highly responsible demanding job as leader of the entire nation. He was convinced by the anti-GMA groups including his sisters. The Hyatt 10 group that broke away from GMA was also a big factor. Pls take note of Pnoy’s current cabinet members and those inner circle who are mostly from Hyatt 10. Sa napanood ko sa TV, yung governor ang Leyte ang nasa TV noong Byernes ng gabi at nakita ko sa TV yung mayor ng Tacloban, kasabay ng balita ng looting. Kung totoo yan,inilikas ang asawa at anak immediately after Yolanda passed Tacloban or Saturday noon. It will explain yung mga patutsada na walang nagawa ang LGU sa unang araw ng bagyo, yung ship without a captain. At ang media naman, sinalang kaagad ang Marcos-Aquino card and the Tacloban mayor running under UNA.
Most of the goods were already in Tacloban even before the storm came. Proof, the NFA warehouse, the cargo ship full of rice and another warehouse were all looted after the storm but all the goods were destroyed.
Alfred Romualdez was stuck in the resort and almost got killed there. WTF was he doing at the resort in the middle of a storm? The foreign stormchasers have left that place and transferred to a hotel in the city because it was too dangerous. But at the first available flight, his lovely councilor-wife Kring Kring and kids were shipped to Manila on the first flight available not because they were victims but because they feared the angry mob was out to kill them because they felt abandoned. Remember, media had a hard time locating him after the storm. Roxas and Petilla were there early but they can’t find Romualdez. What do you do without the mayor. Sige nga?
Oblak the only way they can save the political dynasty of the Romualdezes from this monumental kapalpakan, is by putting the blame on Malacanang. The vulnerable morons immediately took the bait and were spreading the same in Facebook.
Nakakahiya na habang pinupuri tayo ng TIME, NY Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, etc. mas pinili ng mga Pinoy na pakalatin yung mga istoryang kapalpakan ng kapwa Pinoy. The lies pertaining to the holding up of aid in NAIA was proven false and Ruffy Biazon demanded Lufthansa admonish one of its employees for spreading false rumor, another one about the alleged irregularities in the DSWD repacking areas which “substituted local for foreign goods” again, is a fake story. Manolo said the Facebook poster which story got shared by thousands didn’t understand that there were orders for bottled goods to be taken out of the packages because it would be dangerous if the bottles broke. Or those canned goods that didn’t have the easy-open ring feature because people do not have can openers thus those will be useless. Maybe those were scheduled for later release. And many other stories.
What I’m saying is there are many false rumors, like the NPA holding some trucks, rapists roaming at night, organized convicts released from prison with arms, etc. What did it do? IT ONLY DELAYED THE DELIVERY OF THE GOODS EVEN MORE BECAUSE THE ORGS WERE AFRAID FOR THEIR MEMBERS. Many would not transport their trucks unless they were escorted by the Armed Forces. Those who had trucks refused to lend or lease their vehicles because of the unfounded fear.
Social media was at its worst.
I think I saw Mayor Romualdez all around the city and being interviewed by the media. He was and is there. Pnoy has the habit of embarrassing people including his own cabinet men in public. He doesn’t behave like a true state man. Have you seen other countries’ leaders like Obama bashing his own men and people on international media. Sometimes, he even took the blame.
Yellow pride has gone to Pnoy’s head. Thanks to those Yellow Brigade, the Yellow Mob, that ousted two legitimate duly elected Presidents. Thanks to ABS-CBN and the Lopezes. Thanks to Makati Business Club. Thanks to Catholic Church that now is distancing herself from him. #24 Salamat Tongue sa info. I filter the news that come in, i just want to know the extent of damage, the plight of the victims and if they are getting help. When a reporter starts to editorialize, I switch channels. I do not read any opinions from blogsphere and social medias anymore. Lahat marurunong, magagaling at palaging may sinisisi. some would even make an issue on giving contribution, that help will no reach the victims. For me, i contribute because i want to help. Yung iba, marami pang alibi sa pag bigay ng tulong. It is true, there are so many tales that came from a friend, relative, friends of relatives, relatives of friends and so forth.
It is difficult to grasp the effects of this powerful typhoon until it came. I do not blame anybody (what is the point?)and I just wish that more help will come to the victims.
Whether Pnoy failed or not, I don’t care anymore. My concern will always be our unfortunate kababayans. Kung may kaya pang itulong, tabag gihapon.

Yes, many of those who died were not from the typhoon itself but because of hunger and illnesses. Had the relief especially medical mission and foods come earlier, many survivors would still be alive today. The number of casualties is still rising not only because of missing victims but survivors. So, when the PNP official told the international media that there were 10,000 casualties, he was correct. The number shall rise up to 10,000 and more.
He doesn’t seem to know what a storm surge means, since why the hell didn’t he moved out of his house when PAGASA was already warning everyone that a SUPER TYPHOON was going to hit the Visayas region including Tacloban for several days before the typhoon hit. He had his constituents living along the shorelines evacuated, but the evacuation center was badly damaged as well and a lot of them perished. Hayyyysss!!!
BTW, Mayor Romualdez and family almost died inside their own home (not a RESORT) facing the the Pacific Ocean.

Actually, dalawang big incidents yung tumama sa Tacloban prior to Yolanda – one in 1897 and ito ngang 1912. I got that info from Bob Couttie, an American who now lives in Cambodia. Itong 1912 ay 15,000 ang estimated na namatay ng American Gov. General. The death toll includes about half of Tacloban’s population. How could the present leaders of Tacloban, the Romualdezes who have ruled for decades, miss that big event. Their stupidity escapes me.

Here, almost 7000 people died, with 6,000 natives and 400 Europeans killed by “tidal wave”. Hmmm, I guess if Pag-asa were less sophisticated and called it tidal wave instead, maybe, just maybe, people would have an idea how strong Yolanda would be.
Kumukulo pa rin dugo ko. 7,000 dead in 1897, 15,000 in 1912 and the ruling clans in Tacloban have not learned anything? So eto ngayon, modern times na, and more than 5,000 dead pa rin. We did not improve one small kulangot bit?
Well, they better work fast including here in Metro Manila. Fishermen in Baclaran and Pasay say the offshore breakwater in Roxas Blvd. has been breached in many places by the strong typhoons in the last few years. DENR, DPWH, MGB should go back to the drawing boards because such underwater breakwater are useless in storm surges wherein water is lifted by air pressure from above, the old breakwater protects only from earthquake generated tsunami and other water movement from below the surface.
It’s time Pasay City Mayor Calixto hired the services of scientists and engineers to develop a new building and roads standard specially now that a new huge reclamation project is up for grabs between Ayala and SM. Those new buildings should not only withstand the strong storm surge but designed in a way to prevent the surge from hitting the populated areas of Pasay. I can’t imagine how deep such flood will bring to my former neighborhood.

Ayon sa records sa pinost ni Tongue, hindi talaga first time na nangyari sa Leyte ang delubyo. Kailangang iconsider ito ng local at national government sa reconstruction ng Tacloban at neighboring towns. Ang mga coastal towns dapat iconsider na ang evacuation centers na itatayo ay medyo inland o nasa mas mataas na lugar na malayo din sa landslide.
Panahon na rin siguro na halughugin ng lahat ng probinsya sa Pilipinas ang mga dokumento or records kagaya ng mga naglalabasang news articles sa Tacloban noong 1897 at 1912, para mag handa na rin.

Dapat ngayon maghigpit ang National government sa maraming bagay diyan sa reconstruction ng Tacloban, in a way swerte sila they can build everything according to standard. Ipagbawal na mga barung-barong o shanties sa dalampasigan. Urban Planning ang pinakamabuti diyan. I recommend Palafox + Asso. Si Jun ang foremost Urban planner ng bansa he helped design many modern communities in Asia esp. sa Middle East. Walang ibang opportunity para iayos ang mga lapad ng mga kalsada, mga drainage, overhead transmission wires gawing underground,ito na angpagkakataong gawin ng tama ang community rebuilding and modernization. Wag sanang lamunin ng politika.
