It may not be true but there’s no harm for former President Joseph Estrada to tighten his security when going to around especially in his visits to depressed areas.
We got from several sources that a group is planning to do a “Benazir Bhutto” on him.
As we all know, former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated while addressing a rally in the city of Rawalpindi last Dec. 27. Bhutto was challenging the beleaguered leadership of President Pervez Musharraf.
Our sources said although it cannot be ruled out that groups who are out to sabotage the Arroyo administration may just be thinking of assassinating Estrada as a trigger to create chaos, the people who he said are seriously thinking of it belong to a group identified with the administration.
Since his release from six years of confinement after he was granted absolute pardon by Arroyo, Estrada has been going around depressed areas mobbed by devoted supporters. He has floated the idea of running for president in 2010.
The source said the group targeting Estrada expects disarray to follow any attempt on the life of the former president which would be the perfect excuse to declare a state of emergency or martial law. “They want things to come to a head so they can finish off Trillanes and his Magdalo group and other anti-administration groups in the military,” the source said.
The source said Arroyo and her security officials know that although in the Nov. 29 standoff at the Manila Pen Trillanes and Brig. Gen. Danny Lim did not get open support from other members of the armed forces, they suspect that there were sympathizers who were waiting for the right timing to come out.
The Center for People Empowerment in Governance, made this observation of the Nov. 29 incident: “Assuming that the main objective of the Makati siege was to create a political noise that would resonate throughout the country and outside, its leaders succeeded. If it was meant to trigger yet another people power revolt against the Arroyo rule, it failed. Just the same, it left a message – of a regime that is despicable, and of an increasing number of people poised to challenge it no matter the risk to their lives.”
The source said: “They want to flush out those they feel are not on their side.” The timetable for it is “first quarter of this year.” Another first quarter storm?

If you have read my previous posts, I have long reminded and warned Erap to be very careful now that he’s a free man. Who shall benefit from Erap’s assassination and death. Marami…kahit na sa opposition. Foremost is from the Administration and this GMA who’s afraid of Erap’s popularity and political threats. Habang nandiyan si Erap, mahirap silang dumiskarte. Ang opposition naman…maraming may ambition sa 2010. Eliminating Erap would give them the chance to occupy the highest position of the land in 2010. If something bad happens to Erap, these opposition candidates would take advantage of people’s anger. Mas malaki ang chance nilang manalo. Sa mga Komunista naman at Muslim rebels, pagkakataon na iyan para ibagsak ang gobyerno kapag may mangyari kay Erap. Don’t discount US-CIA that’s willing to work with any group to protect her own interest. In other words, maraming tao at grupo ang makikinabang sa pagkamatay ni Erap. Mark my word…it will be 10 times worse than Ninoy’s assassination.
Erap succeeded in going around Metro Manila perhaps due to better security and love by the poor people. Maaari din masyadong maaga pa siyang itumba at halata. But when he starts going around the country and travel to the provinces, iyan ang delikado. Hindi lang nandoon ang mga kaaway ng gobyerno, mas kailangan ng matinding security at alaga kay Erap. Is the government willing to provide him with the best security? As of now, Erap’s security detail is a token one. Baka galing pa sa kanyang bulsa ang pambayad sa mga bodyguards niya.
This thread and topic is very timely. It comes at a time when popular figures like Bhutto are being assassinated. Let’s hope and pray it doesn’t happen to Erap. At 70, marami pa siyang magagawa sa bayan. May God bless him !

This is a good movie plot. Yes, it invites controversies. The more it becomes controversial, the more it becomes profitable. This plot is a fiction trying to become real in the minds of the “fans”.
The theory of January-February fever sending a chilling message to the Administration is based on the assumption that there are unidentified huge numbers of military sympathizers waiting to come out at the right time to end this despicable and morally bankrupt administration.
The Oakwood and Pen revolts did not materialize this huge number of agitated military groups who are willing to risk their lives to end this corrupt administration. This failure explains itself why the Magdalo group is considered relatively a small fraction within the AFP. AFP is determined to crushed this small fraction because Military’s chain of command is sacred.

Please remember…even though some would disagree…that the US often if not always has a hand in removing, installing and eliminating leaders or potential leaders of third world countries.
There is no real threat from Magdalo. The January-February fever has no roots — there are no “silent majority” in the military because only a few will risk their lives to end Gloria’s reign. Some of them may be willing to risk their own lives but not the future and well-being of their families.
This is why some accepted the government’s offer for reconciliation. Some of these soldiers may still have their sympathy with the Magdalo, and have close contact with the core leaders and some civilian sympathizers but they do not make significant contribution to their equally “paralized” leaders.
Now if erap should be sacrificed, it is more likely that the fugitive Magdalo members will strike the trigger. Motive? Well, there is wisdom in adding gasoline to the burning house. In the absence of mass military support, the outburst of the masses, particularly the poor of erap, will add power to the Magdalo revolts.
It is unthinakble why should the Arroyo group rock the boat when it badly need to sustain the status quo.
The opposition group will not kill the hen that lays golden eggs for their economic and political needs.
The theory that erap will run for president curtailing the ambition of new would-be presidents is weak. Erap cannot run again see fr bernas commentary in pdi. He is not a threat, but his money and political machineries will make a difference in 2010.

But of course! One doesn’t need a crystal ball to know that BGen Lim, Col Querubin as well as the other military officers who CANNOT stomach Gloria’s misrule corruption will always have sympathizers.
Gloria (and her bunch of criminals) should consider themselves EXTREMELY LUCKY that friends and colleagues of these officers are still respectful of certain military traditions rightly or wrongly (chain of command) and have not thrown grenades her way.
Gloria must not think that members of military have no brain; many might not be courageous or brave enough to openly challenge this government but doesn’t mean that they are dim witted.
She must contend with having to live the remaining 2 years or so of her stolen rule with the thought that it takes but ONE bold member of the military to put her down (just like one puts a dog down.)

Hopefully, Sen. Trillanes will be doing okay, so far no one is denouncing him except Esperon et al. Most sympathize with him but not necessarily with his method. In fact, some ranking police officials (not Barias) would rather see him be allowed to function fully as a senator, allow him to conduct (with full support) investigations on the issues he brought forward, nothing wrong with that. Of course they will not openly say this in public. But like it or not, a lot of people are rooting for him.

Tama ka about the NPA, they started out as a group asking for reforms, denouncing inequity, injustice, to the point of attacking US intervention in the Philippines (Joma Sison’s speech in PMA circa 1966). Unfortunately, the movement developed into armed struggle, perhaps because of desperation already, probably even self defense.
What people must understand is that Sen. Trillanes, Gen. Lim and the Tanay prisoners are not for armed struggle and never were, unlike Gringo before. Esperon and this administration, along with some sympathizers (mostly US presence in the Phils.) are doing their damndest best to paint them as such.
Why there is no genuine dialogues with intent to resolve these parallel armies once and for all, escapes me. Its obvious that the protracted war is not yielding any positive results.

In my understanding, for a long time Marcos was accused of the Plaza Miranda bombing; it appeared later on that the bombing was committed on orders of Joma Sison.
Defector twice over MGen Victor Corpuz, said that it was the NPA that did it.

Only Gen.Lim, Col.Querubin, Col. De Leon and Maj. made it to the hearing without wearing handcuffs. (Bakit sila pinayagan ng hindi naka-handcuffed?)

My brother who is far from being an elitist, one who truly cares for people that he refuses to leave RP to settle in the US or anywher in the prosperous West (and he can, his wife is American and he holds a US passport) calls them “Tulisan!”

My brother is US educated, could have made a great career in the US but went back to Pinas after the fall of Marcos — he remains committed to his barrio, his province, RP, and the people and is active in an ngo. He’s a doer and one of the true patriots I know but very low key.

My father, a USAFFE guerilla fighter in WW2, refused to be an American citizen for the same reason. He never left Pinas, still tending to his farms and animals and at the same time lending his wisdom to the young politicians in our barrio.
There are many veterans like your father, Chi. Mas bilib pa nga ako sa mga nanatili sa Pilipinas at naiwan doon hanggang sa huli ng sandali ng kanilang buhay. I’m not saying those veterans in US who are making noise are wrong in leaving the country. Ellen, you got a good point. GMA and Bhutto are good tandem. Bhutto herself was accused of corruption. Pero sayang siya…ang ganda pa naman. Her son is too young to take over. But the way he talks, he has a very good potential of being a future good leader.
Sabi ni JV Ejercito baka tumakbo nga ang tatay niya sa 2010, and I don’t think that he can be barred from doing that since his reign was not completed, and he and the Filipinos need another chance to see and prove his worth.

My uncle was one of the first USAFFE veterans (he was a Bataan Death March survivor) who opted for US citizenship and got shipped free of charge to the US in 1947, but I don’t think he was being disloyal to the Philippines doing so.

Not to sound unpatriotic, if given a choice to pick between the US and Japan, I would prefer that RP was under Japan’s rule after the WW2. From nothing and scratch, Japan became very progressive as a nation. Who knows, RP would have become the same under Japan. Sa tagal ng pag-aalipin sa mga Kano, ano tayo ngayon? Ganoon pa rin. Many or majority of Pinoys excel elsewhere outside because they have better managers and employers. Most pinoys here are destabilized by the very few smart ones, mostly politicians. In some cases though, pinoy bloodlines are known to have congenital ‘dog eat dog’ rivalries.

We should not have been at war with the Japanese, we were just dragged into it by the Americans. These SOBs, after using our troops (USAFFE), they paid them half of what US soldiers are paid, why? were Filipino soldiers fighting with half-effort only, did they not face the same type of bullets? (Closer than Brothers – Al Mcoy). Our hapless soldiers even went to Vietnam and Korea for them, to be used against people who were fighting for their freedom. Now in Afghanistan (a war waged by the US to control the POPPY FIELDS – cocaine production) and Iraq (for oil). These Americans are even aggravating our Muslim rebel problems in the south by using them as training practice for counter insurgency. Kick them out, and tell them to take Gloria with them, we don’t need them, never did. But if our OFWs in the US will all leave, they’ll have a another big problem to top off their already flagging economy.

Filing a protest with the Election Tribunal not only requires lots of money but too much delay. By the time the results and decision are out, the cheater already has completed his term. Paano na makakaupo ang tunay na nanalo. That’s also the predicament of Loren Legarda. If she wins in the recount, Noli is finished in his term. And if Loren runs again for higher office in 2010, she has forfeited his right to protest. Iyan ang masama sa ganitong sistema. Ang mandaraya ang nakikinabang because they are proclaimed and assumed their office while the protest is going on. Unfair! So, I call on Zubiri: Alis Diyan!
