Habang sinusulat ko ito, nasa holding room ng Sandigaganbayan si Erap. Ang isang kasama niya ay nag-text sa akin,”Ellen, alam mo ng binasa ang verdict, parang may namatay sa amin. Parang lamay. Bakit ganito?”
Alam ko marami ang nagngi- ngitngit. Kung ano ang mangyayari sa fga sumunod na mga araw at linggo, abangan natin.

To be perfectly honest, I can very well believe Yuko. There IS a semblance of justice but how can there be justice when most big time judges, justices, lawyers, (witness Abalos!)etc. etc can be bought, not necessarily with cash but through other forms of corruption but in many cases, ordinary judges are PAID by one or the other party (nampucha talaga!).
No later than last month, a wealthy friend of mine who had joined us on holiday to celebrate the annulment of her marriage to a bastard said to me that she paid a judge lots to pronounce her marriage annulment fast and in her favour.
I asked her why she had to pay up. She said, because otherwise, if her ex-husband got to the judge first, she would be “dead.” (The money is hers and not her husband’s.)
My husband and my children couldn’t believe their ears! My daughter said, “Mum, could this be true?” I said, “Alas, my dear, it is so very true and happens often in the Philippines.”
I needen’t describe to you my daughter’s facial reaction – it’s as if she had received a B or a C in one of her subjects.

There is no way that this Sandiganbayan verdict can be even considered as being a ‘closer’ and please allow me to give you my reasons to say this.
Whilst watching the television covergae of the verdict I couldn’t help myself smiling at the ‘lawyer talk’ the language used over the years to try to bamboozal the ‘ordinary’ layman. Whilst it seems that the judiciary such as these three justices are living in the past, without realising that through the aid of reacent technology ‘ordinary’ laymen such as you and I have a better understanding of what ‘reasonable dought’ means and are bold enough to question them even though the three justices are thought to be honest and truthful, that is until yesterday. Today many people are doubting these justices in judging what is ‘beyond reasonable doubt’.
One Million standing outside the Palace Gates would be able to make many instant changes for the better, including a better judiciary which is sorely needed.
This judiciary had its chance and failed us miserablely.

On the ZTE Broadband deal..
I recall what someone told me..Mike Arroyo was suppose to have gone to China sometime in April of this year, however he suffered a heart attack which was a near-death experience for him. Mike was supposed to have met the ZTE officials in China. So instead, Gloria left for China, despite the condition of her husband. The Pidals needed the money for the upcoming May elections.
No wonder Gloria & her pigs are scrambling to do something about the ZTE Broadland deal. In fact, Gloria said that the deal will push through despite media’s attack towards it (stupid reasoning, if you ask me). I think the real reason the deal has to push through come hell or high water is because she cannot return the money. It has been spent !

Neonate (who posted an opinion in my blog) may perhaps provide an insight into the calm situation, i.e., calm before the storm? He says this state of things is unnerving to the gendarmes who are perplexed by the situation and are obliged to maintain a high alert status.
My thinking is that these people, at least the so-called disenfranchised are still in a state of shock. The verdict will sink in lil by lil. It’s the kind of state of shock we see in people who have lost a love one but I believe when they come out of that state, there will be reckoning.
However, having said that, these people are perhaps waiting for a leader – we all know, and pardon my being blunt, that the sans culottes (that’s how the proletariat was called during the French Revolution) don’t carry out revelotions, they need a leader, they are mere followers.

Reward. It is no secret that Sandiganbayan Justices Teresita de Castro and Francisco Villaruz Jr. are leading aspirants for appointment to the Supreme Court, the next vacancy opening up on Oct. 30 with the retirement of Justice Cancio Garcia.
Will GMA throw all caution to the winds again and promote one of them as a reward for their decision to convict Erap and legitimizing her take-over on Jan. 30, 2001? Will Villaruz or Diosdado Peralta be promoted to be presiding justice of the Sandiganbayan?

regarding the absence of protest after erap’s conviction, i don’t think the outraged people are already tired of doing so. they’re far wiser now and keep their cards close to their chests. result: GMA and her ilk are in a guessing game, worried to death kung ano ang next move ng mga against sa kanya. it’s more like of a psy-war game which goes to show that the “masa” is wiser and more matured now than they were during EDSA 3. i salute erap’s magnanimity and calm in accepting the “verdict”. once again, he has exhibited dignity in the face of adversity. but let us not be so disheartened folks. hope is like a phoenix that rise from the ashes to live and soar again. let’s just hope that justice or injustice as one sees it, returns full circle to mete righteous verdict to those who deserve it more. up to now, di pa sigurado si GMA kung kelan sasabog ang bulkan ng outrage against her corrupt regime.
