A friend asked me to inform residents of Quezon City, district I that Comelec has made its final decision: Vivienne Tan is qualified to run for a seat in the House of Representatives. Here’s his report:
The Commission on Elections, meeting en banc, junked the motion for reconsideration filed by Congressman Bingbong Crisologo seeking the disqualification of Vivienne Tan as an independent congressional candidate in District 1, Quezon City.
All seven commissioners concurred that “Vivienne Tan possesses all the qualifications and none of the disqualifications as candidate for Member of the House of Representative for the First District of Quezon City.”
In a statement to media, Tan, daughter of taipan Lucio Tan, thanked the Comelec for “upholding the spirit of the law.”
“Mr. Crisologo knows that his appeal to disqualify me as a candidate has no legal basis. But he relentlessly filed appeal after appeal, using this to spread rumors of my disqualification and discourage voters from choosing me to be their representative,” Tan said.
The lawyers of Tan, meanwhile, said the order of Court of Appeals to delist Vivienne Tan as a qualified voter in District 1, Quezon is null and void and without legal force and effect.
Arno Sanidad, chief legal counsel for Tan, invokes the Rules of Court saying, “the jurisdiction over petitions for certiorari of decisions of the Metropolitan Trial Court and the Regional Trial Court is lodged exclusively with the Commission on Elections, and not the Court of Appeals.”
The lawyers said Crislogo’s petition for certiorari “should have merited an outright dismissal” because the Court of Appeals has no jurisdiction over elections matters which is lodged exclusively to the Comelec.
“Vivienne Tan, therefore, remains to be a voter and candidate for the House of Representatives,” the lawyers said.
upholding the spirit of the dollar …….
About Vivienne…OKS lang, may karapatan siya bilang Noypi na maglingkod-bayan…new breed yan kaya give her a chance to serve our fellows Noypi.
GO, GO, Gooooo…. Vivienne!
Oposisyon kuno.
Vivienne is an educator and established a management school called Entrepreneur School of Asia and her Dad had been very active helping many kids get exposure sa business early on. Napadala sa China all expenses paid para mag-aral mga high school students pa lang sila…so for me, why not probably she mean well. Really hope so considering her background.
If there is one or two barangays in her district being torched or already torced down; we know who to point our fingers to, hehe…..
Arno Sanidad is her legal counsel and petitioneer is a Crisologo; you really would think this scenario is up in the Ilocos Region.
Tru blue, the common thread is tobacco.

Okay kang if she uses her lack of anything to do to share her expertise and resources with the people of Quezon City.
Vivienne Tan’s candidacy… a new face of the decade.
Huwag kayong masyadong eksayted sa balitang ‘yan.
Meron ding ilang tanong na dapat masagot, eh.
1. Is Lucio Tan not aso-ciated with the bitch?
2. Hindi kaya isa sa mga contributors sa PaLaKa campign fund itong si KapiTan Lucio (as joeseg calls him)?
3. Hindi kaya Vivien’s candidacy is for the purpose of protecting her family’s business interests?

Basta sabi ninyo Ok si Viviene Tan, may cara pa. Don’t go Nikki Coseteng way lang ha? 🙂
MPRivera: Hindi kaya Vivien’s candidacy is for the purpose of protecting her family’s business interests?
Anofe? Hindi na interesting yan, Igan. Siempre personal interests, family interests, family business interests, what’s new?
Alamin nating may inaalagaan ding personal interest si Mikey Arroyo, bukod sa family interests, family business interests here and ABROAD. All aboard!

Chi re#24. Dante said despite approval of AFP Chief of Staff Delfin Bangit of his pass to go home to Kalinga to vote, his custodians would not allow him to leave his detention quarters. Ang dami raw excuses.
“Hindi kaya Vivien’s candidacy is for the purpose of protecting her family’s business interests?” -MPR
The Tan’s family’s conglomerates has proven that they can survive and progress without any politician in the family. To Vivienne, may you be a good politician.
Yehey!

RE: To Vivienne, may you be a good politician.
Lucio Tan has always managed to strike favorable deals in the past administrations even though he’s been hounded no end taxation. Rumor is that Noynoy refused his offer for campaign assistance (maybe he knows something we don’t) and Philip Morris has been knocking on their doors for quite some time, the offer was good, so he took it. The Philippines consumes around 90 billion sticks of cigarettes per year, 60% of that is from Fortune Tobacco while PM supplies 30%, the rest is shared by smaller players ie La Suerte, Mighty Corporation, etc…PM has taken over the management. So the once old, manual, fortress like compound is now abuzz with so many changes (SAP, etc). The management team is composed of Malaysians, Filipinos, etc. that it looks like a ASEAN during meetings…
…Lucio Tan may be chuckling to himself, whatever happens, lets see them go after PM, they’ll have the US embassy to contend with…
Jug:Rumor is that Noynoy refused his offer for campaign assistance…
Jug, that’s the rumor.
So what is the fact? He accepted it?
jug, I was once in Fortune’s Parang, Marikina plant with some of my technicians to install substation switchgear and the sign that greeted us was “Thank you for Smoking”.

————————-
I don’t know…but I’ve heard from some people that he’s irritated some “shady” businessmen (big time smugglers, etc.) because he’s so “maarte” of course referring again to “not accepting” their offers. Whether these are true or not, I trust these sources with millions bound nothing but a handshake…

Well, its going to get a much needed upgrade if it has to meet PM standards.
Jug, just to give you an idea that the rumor may not be true.

No donor (especially the experienced in the business) puts condition when they contribute for one’s campaign. They do it with finesse.
Oo nga, Tan’s plants upgrade are good biz prospects. Sayang, I’m no longer active. Mad maganda ngayon, after PM takeover, mabubuwag na yung sindikato sa Purchasing.
I was just told this was the real purpose of the stock swaps – to get rid of the top-heavy organization. And that he will redeem it sometime in the future.

Of course, Noynoy’s camp will still be in the safe zone if they just deal with legitimate businesses with a guarantee of a “level playing field.” Sounds okay with me, so Noynoy is not as naive as we think. 🙂

Sinabi mo pa Tongue. The PM guys are more professional, purchasing is headed by an Indian-Malaysian, I call her Dragon Lady, with a team of young asians, two of which who are occupying vital positions are Filipinos.

Oo naman. It is demeaning to the recipient if the delivery of the message is rather straightforward especially when money is exchanged for favors. Believe me, it is best left to the experts.
Aha! Thanks, Ellen… it worked! Hah!
Btw, No donor (especially the experienced in the business) puts condition when they contribute for one’s campaign. They do it with finesse. — That’s very very true!
Btw, Ellen, Tongue, isn’t this the same Vivienne Tan who’s connected with the Philippine Stock Exchange?
Not so sure, but there have been a bit of rumour re ethics in that outfit involving a Tan…
No Anne, you must be referring to Yuchengco.
Tongue, have you noticed the dilutions of Lucio Tan’s businesses lately, Fortune Tobacco with PM, there are also some real estate ventures with Ayala, they also outsourced the catering group of PAL, I won’t be surprised if PAL will be up for grabs, even PNB?
Why would his daughter want to be a congresswoman when they have a massive empire?

Happy Mother’s Day sa Pinakamamahal kong Nanay Lina! At HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY sa lahat ng mga mothers and mothers to be!
Perhaps she really wants to reach out to the people of her district by representing them in Congress and so decided to run. If that’s her personal decision, then fine. But if it’s to have a direct hand in Congress to serve Daddy’s interests, i.e., legal backstops, etc., that’s another thing.
Oh, didn’t read that…
TonGuE-tWisTeD – May 8, 2010 11:27 pm
Thank you very much Tongue, I’m touched!
No Anne, you must be referring to Yuchengco.
Oh, yep… Tongue, thanks…

They do it with finesse. — Ellen
Except when Guingona was Exec Sec to FVR and the party needed “donors” for JdV in the election of 1998.
There was no goddamn finesse from the future “receiving party” there — Guingona upped the ante by telling another business group: The Australians are prepared to “donate” 100 million dollars (Aussie) for the campaign, etc, what about xxxxx?.
A “mole” secretly working as a lobbyist for her family’s interests. — TruBlue
My suspicion too…a sort of a legal backstopper perhaps?
I’m not too sure that her running is purely for altruistic motive. Doesn’t follow. (I might be maligning the woman, if so, sorry…)

She might be the real deal though…I remember someone mentioned (during some lunch meeting) that Lucio’s children are not showing much interest/active in the family business…
I agree with balweg re Viviene’s aura…it would be nice to see such faces together with Hontiveros, etc., I’m sick and tired of Miriam Santiago’s face and for some reason Pia Cayetano has lost her charm…

Tongue, you nailed it.
There’s a code of silence between a politician and businessman. The act alone of giving and accepting already sealed a transaction. Both parties agreed on a silent and unspecified deal and no need in going to details.
Payback time will come later, in times of need and in times of problems. That’s the time to lay cards on the table.
Politicians can claim whatever they want that contributions are accepted with no strings attached, but maybe they should tell that to the birds and the bees.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers here!
she’s sexy.
Tongue,
Or if offers in kind, eg., logistics, use of planes for provincial sorties, are accepted, understood na.
Speaking of provincial sorties. I would like to know if aircraft for Noynoy-Mar’s provincial sorties to, example, Mindanao, are paid for by the Noy-Mar campaign or was offered for free by the aircraft owners?
There’s no such thing as free lunch.

Ha? I’ll check.
Tongue, sorry I can’t find it. Ano kaya nangyari.
Yes, I remember reading it.
I don’t know if I deleted it accidentally. But I didn’t do any deletion last night or today.
Rather yesterday. Past midnight na pala.
I have to sign off. I have to vote first thing in the morning as I have to cover Villar voting before going to PICC.
Let us give new candidates a chance, if their performance is unsatisfactory, let us not vote them again in the next election. Give our country a chance to the new candidates..hooray new candidates, go go go….
