Surveys if conducted by professionals and executed with integrity are gauge of the sentiments of the people.
I have to stress “executed with integrity” because during election season, there are surveys and surveys. One has to check on the background of the survey firms, who commissioned the survey as well as the questions asked.
But she said, “We derive our inspiration from the needs and aspirations of our country, with or without surveys.”
Poe declared her presidential candidacy for the 2016 elections last Sept. 16. The next day, fellow senator who is also known as her mentor, Chiz Escudero, announced that he is Poe’s running mate.
The Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia released last week their latest surveys. SWS conducted their survey last Sept. 2 to 5 while Pulse Asia started their poll earlier, Aug. 27 up to Sept. 3.
In both SWS and Pulse Asia polls, Poe was the frontrunner followed by Vice President Jejomar Binay and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas in the third place.
The most significant in both surveys is the huge jump of the ratings of Roxas, who used to be a perennial cellar dweller. Although Roxas is still number three, analysts say that the huge increase of his numbers have put him in a “statistical tie” with Poe and Binay, whose numbers have gone down significantly since the investigation of alleged anomalies in the Makati City building projects.
The survey was criticized by those knowledgeable on surveys for asking for three names when the position is only for one person.
While surveys are used by candidates to find out their strength and weaknesses and plan their campaign guided by the findings, its most important use is for businessmen-contributors.
Businessmen rely on surveys to decide who to give the most donation (they try to give to all candidates). Reliable sources said San Miguel Corporation’s Ramon Ang has thrown his support for Poe and so are at least four other businessmen, who are known to be major election contributors.
Sen. Alan Cayetano’s lackluster survey ratings, despite his non-stop TV ads for almost a year, is the reason why he has lowered his sight to being running mate of Roxas, who has not yet obtained the imprimatur of President Aquino.
Dr. Segundo Romero, who provides consultancy services on governance, likens surveys to a thermometer, a tool that measures temperature — how hot or cold the place or something is.
Romero said, if that happens, the survey is no longer a thermometer. It becomes a thermostat – an automatic device for regulating temperature (as by controlling the supply of gas or electricity to a heating apparatus).
Candidates employ experienced pollsters in their campaign staff who advise the kind of events to hold close to the dates the survey would be conducted.
The formulation of the question is an important factor in the survey results.
Surveys to be truly reflective of the people’s sentiments have to be free of manipulation.

Roxas is an every inch a loser. He lost last time, what changes that will make him this time? He has nothing to boast about. Everything he touched turned to coal…DOTC, DILG,,,it’s all palpak…
The Asia Pulse survey is probably the most meaningful and least confusing presidential poll. Unlike the SWS it is simply asks which one of three among a list of names would be the top choice for president. In the latest iteration, AP showed 27% of those surveyed chose Poe, 21% Binay, and Roxas 18%. This was very good news for Roxas and the LP as Roxas jumped 8 percentage points from 10% last survey 3 months ago, while Poe dipped 3 and Binay stayed even. In fact, Roxas gained most of this from attracting masa votes which has been his perennial problem because he has the charisma of a can of motor oil! Whether this was a one time blip from his Pinoy anointment or his ad campaigns are gaining traction is the crucial question. The next survey should help answer this issue which is why they are sdo important!

I will not vote for Mar Roxas, ayaw ko ng dugong bughaw (daw) na nagmumura ng malutong na PI. Ayaw ko rin ng lahat na i-touch niya ay epic fail ang resulta.
Starting October, the survey question will be changed. Instead of three names. They will ask for only one name because by that time they have no excuse that there are no declared candidates yet.
That is when manipulation of the set of survey questions will be done to precondition the respondents into favoring one over the others.
Dapat isang tanong lang, wala nang setup questions.
Kung sila lang tatlo ang tatakbo pagka presidente walang pagbabago na mangyayari sa Pilipinas.
Binay, lahat ng mga akusasyon ang sagot niya pamumulitika lang. Takot siya humarap sa senado para sa imbistigasyon, paano pa kaya ang pagharap sa kakaharapin na problema ng bansa kapag naging pangulo na siya. Ang isang tao kapag pinagbibintangan at hindi talaga totoo nagagalit talaga, pero si Binay kakaiba siya puro pamumulitika ang sagot.
Poe, walang masama ang mag ambisyon pero sa ngayon parang ambisyosa siya. Tama ang sinasabi ng iba na hilaw pa siya.
Roxas, ganun pa rin. Mahihirapan talaga siya na makakuha ng boto sa marami dahil marami ang ayaw sa kanya kahit magaling siya. Sa tatlo na iyan si Roxas ang karapat dapat dahil walang bahid ng korapsyon ang pagkatao niya. Ang korapsyon ang ugat ng kahirapan sa bansa. Pero mahihirapan siya na manalo.
Kaya ang dapat talaga na iboto ay si Duterte para pagka pangulo. Dahil si Duterte lang ang makapagbabago ng bansa.

Arvin, you should also consider Bongbong Marcos. So far he has proven himself worthy of being a senator without the shawow of his parents. He is the only one who looks at the BIGGER picture and seems to have the welfare of the country and the people on his heart. If he can replicate the wonders he did in Ilocos Norte to the country then we’ll be in good shape. I heard from a number of people that Ilocos Norte is so much more peaceful and orderly compared to the rest of the country.
Reasons why i find it so hard to vote for the ff:
Grace Poe : too closely associated with Chiz Escudero
Mar Roxas : too closely associated with Korina Sanchez
Jojo Binay : too closely associated with satan
Guess i’ll just go for the candidate associated with the least evil – Jojo Binay
Ana you said it correctly…one who looks at the bigger picture instead of those who only knows lip service! In all honesty, reviewing what was achieved after cory’s time…I can’t think of any that I can attribute to anyone president in the past including the current that truly benefit the public in a big way but themselves and their rich sponsors and their political friends! With the current presidentiables, I have serious doubts. They are too influenced to see the big picture what our country really needs!!!
Olan…30 years after Marcos was booted out, most if not only infrastructures use today are the ones built by Marcos which means that they sound and HIGH Quality that passes the test of time unlike the MRT that is falling apart…Marcos was blamed for corruption in those infrastructures but even in the US the construction expense overruns can be very HIGH. We cannot afford another Cory through Grace, another Noynoy through Mar and another ERAP through BINAY…..We must go for Bongbong Marcos.

Mar..what do you mean? He politicize the Yolanda incident. The government action during the calamity is terrible from which he belongs. Foreign help came in first before our government did something. After all the help from own common people, our own OFW, and other countries..after all those years, our government is still on the drawing board making promises that they themselves forgot already or intentionally forget! No action but more empty promises and excuses even with the availability of resources to do so. Please do not discriminate against women’s capability you look really intelligent when you do so. Mar karapat dapat..No offense but I seriously doubt that.
Thinking more about your comments, Mar seems to have the edge considering that Binay’s character is already destroyed and Grace is already compromised by the SET swift action. First time i’ve seen SET acted the way they acted. Maybe they don’t want to lose!
