On Friday, he will lead an armada of fishermen to make a stand in the Scarborough Shoal where a tense standoff between Chinese maritime ships and the Philippine Coast Guard continues.
Faeldon and former Annapolis cadet Manny Albuera will set sail to Bajo de Masinloc or Panatag Shoal, as the Philippines calls the shoal, along with fishermen from his hometown in Batanes to symbolically protest China’s claim over the shoal.
They also called on fishermen from Masinloc town in Zambales to join them to show China that the Filipinos are not afraid, especially “when we know it (the shoal) is ours.” Panatag Shoal is 124 nautical miles off the coast of Zambales.
Faeldon’s voyage initially will bring fishermen as close to Panatag Shoal as possible to exercise their right to fish, but the duration of their stay will depend on the situation on the ground, Kit Guerrero, spokesman for Faeldon, said.
He said Faeldon is also considering raising the Philippine flag on the shoal.

We should just go through the diplomatic channels. Huwag na tayong mang-irita sa China. Let the International court decide who gets what.

Robert pag tayo ang nagpasimula ng gulo nakakatakot yata at baka tayo pa ang masisi imbes ang China. Napakaraming negosyo ng America ang nasa China kaya walang kasiguruhang tayo ang isasalba ng America. Alam kong small-scale encounter lang sa panatag shoal ang ibig mong sabihin pero baka may mag buwis pa ng buhay at pag lumala’y maapektuhan tayong lahat. Anyway hopefully maging successful ang gagawin ni capt. Faeldon at papabor sa ating bansa. Sana nga!
Alam naman ninyo ang US, iba ang sinasabi sa ginagawa. They will not telegraph their punches. Nung January, pumasyal yung top-level delegation para silipin kunyari yung status ni Aung San Suu Kyi, yun pala mag coconfirm lang through inspection na meron ngang ginagawang aggressive moves ang China sa South China Sea.
After some silent encounters, you have the Balikatan in Palawan. After months of the standoff, you have a US nuclear sub making a port call on Subic.
Don’t delude yourself into thinking this will be a military confrontation between Phils and China. If there is any war that will occur, it will be between US and China.

I am not with Kapitan Nick this time. Let’s exhaust diplomatic actions first. China could see the visit of Faeldon to the shoal as provocation and just waiting for this kind of action from Pinas to shoot.

Thanks Tongue! Anyway Pnoy finally ordered the postponement of Faeldon’s suicide voyage. The president himself made the phone call to him.
Yeah sure, Faeldon must be really patriotic. Or suicidal. But he is a military man trained in psy-war. So it may still be a part of the posturing. Let it be known to the mighty China that there are civilians willing to die for the country under the most lopsided situations.
He may have just opened the opportunity for Noynoy to score some statesmanship points.
After all, I think that the earlier hardline stance taken by Noynoy was concocted t give him the chance to take the uncertainty into the international stage. Last January, we saw the Russian carrier visiting Manila Bay, a first for almost a century. Last week we saw a US nuclear sub in Subic.
China’s ruling party was being pushed by its citizens to take a harsher stand against the Philippines. Thus their “defiant” attitude in Panatag was expected and some “token” trade sanctions in the bananas being held in the piers. What the Chinese probably don’t understand is the bananas are FOB Philippine Port. Meaning, the importer can collect from the Correspondent Bank the full amount upon mere presentation of the Invoice after the shipment leaves the Philippine Port. No impact if they reject it.
In fact in the video of Del Rosario I posted above, he was asked why we are exporting 100% to China some of our farm products in Del Monte when people in the farms there in Bukidnon are going hungry.

Just learned that BRP Gregorio del Pilar withdrew from Scarborough to Poro Point which means that Scarborough Shoal has been left unmanned and unprotected. If there is no other PN ship in Scarborough, then techincally, we should not even be speaking of a stand off with China.
We have technically abandoned sovereignty over Scarborough Shoal pure and simple.
And to think that for a number of years as early as the early 90s we had Scarborough Shoal under full control thanks to Philippine Navy commanders then.
What is going on? What stand-off with bleeding China are we even talking about. Linoloko ba tayo ng mga officials natin?
And I don’t believe for one nano second that China will now let go, diplomacy or not diplomacy.

Anna, BRP Gregorio del Pilar left Scarborough shoal April yet because of Philippine policy of white to white, gray to gray. So we only have a Coast guard vessel there.

“The Philippine Navy’s cautious move is in accordance with President Aquino’s guidance of “white to white, gray to gray.” “White to white” means civilian ships are to deal only with civilian ships, in this case the Philippine Coast Guard to the Chinese Marine Surveillance. “Gray to gray” means navy to navy.
This directive sprung from the Reed Bank incident last year when China’s marine surveillance ship warded off the Philippine commissioned seismic vessel Voyager. The President has said that Coast Guard will take the primary role of enforcing maritime laws.”

On the subject of the presidential directive: Well and good! But first question that springs to mind after reading this your reply is with regard to the “Gray to gray” guideline:
Is it safe to say that there ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT China Navy vessels in the area that require no PN counterpart presence in Scarborough?
“White to white” guideline seems logical enough to me provided there are only commercial or civilian China vessels roaming around the Shoal and into our territorial waters but again, I would like to know if there is no risk that a China Navy, therefore military, vessel is actually within our 200 mile EEZ to warrant no equivalent PN presence…
Furthermore, given that the reason for “shooing off” BRP Gregorio del Pilar to Poro Point was to save the Philippines embarassment should China Navy send a gunboat to confront her, I find it outrageously more embarassing that our Navy is seen to be escaping from our seaboard — from Scarborough Shoal!!!!
The Philippines is still the only Christian nation in Asia.
The 2nd greatest commandment says, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Filipinos have, historically, treated our neighbor, China, fairly, even graciously.
Why, then, does the Chinese government treat us in the opposite way, by invading sovereign Philippine territory (Mischief Reef and Scarborough Shoal)?
