Naintindihan ko na pangkalahatan at pangmatagalan na kapayaaan ang hangad ni Aquino ngunit bilang commander-in-chief meron siyang obligasyun para damayan ang kanyang mga tauhan sa oras ng trahedya.
Una, noong Martes, 19 na sundalo ang napatay sa enkwento sa Albarka, Basilan sa operasyun ng military na pagtugis sa ilang miyembro ng Abu Sayaff. Napunta sila sa teritoryo ng MILF.
Noong Huwebes ng gabi naman, pinagmalaki pa ng MILF ang kanilang pag-atake sa baying ng Alicia at Kabasalan sa probinsiya ng Zamboanga Sibugay at pitong sundalo at isang pulis ang nasawi.
Hindi nag-order si Aquino na tugisin ang mga pumatay sa mga sundalo sa Al-Barka at hindi rin hinihingi ng pamahalaan sa MILF na i-surender sa kanila si Dan Laksaw Asnawi, ang namuno sa pag-ambush sa mga sundalo.
Sabi ni Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta, deputy chief for operations ng AFP, ang instuksyon daw sa kanila ni Aquino ay hindi maa-aring tugisin ang mga MILF sa Albarka dahil sa ceasefire na napagkasunduan sa Peace Process.
Ngunit sabi ni Mabanta, aprubado daw ni Aquino ang pagtugis ng MILF na sumalakay sa military sa Zamboanga Sibugay.
Samantala, tinanggal sa pwesto niya bilang spokesman ng Philippine Army si Col.Antonio Parlade Jr dahil sinabi niya na dapat usigin ang MILF at suspindihin ang ceasefire agreement na hindi naman sinusunod ng MILF.
Nakiramay din naman si Aquino sa mga pamilya ng nasawing mga sundalo.””Nakikiramay tayo sa lahat ng mga pamilya [na] nawalan ng kanilang miyembro,” sabi niya.
Ito pa ang sabi niya:”Kung maalala n’yo nagkaroon ng trahedya sa ating mga Marines sa Sulu. Merong mga dapat nagawa pagkatapos noon para manigurado na hindi ganito ang mangyayaring trahedya. At nangyari na naman ‘to. So hindi talaga ako natutuwa. Gusto ko malaman ang puno’t dulo ng buong operasyon na ‘to.”
Nakuha na raw niya ang preliminary report ng military at “”Pagkatapos po noon, nag-umpisa nang mag-relieve ng ilang mga commander doon. Pero dapat talagang masiyasat kung ano ang dahilan kung bakit ganito ang naging resulta sa ating Sandatahang Lakas at iwasto. Hihingin ko bukas ang mga detalye ng pagwawasto na kanilang dapat ginawa na noon pa lang panahon ng may trahedya sa Sulu sa mga Marines.”
Ngunit alalay pa rin si Aquino sa MILF:””Natuto naman tayo. Giyera, walang nakikinabang. ‘Pag may one rotten egg, dapat bang yung buong basket of eggs dapat tukuyin na natin na sila lahat masama? Maganda na imbestigahan muna natin kung ano ang nangyari: Sino ang may pagkukulang? Sino ang mga nang-abuso, etcetera. ‘Pag nakuha mo na lahat ng detalye, yun ang magsasabi sa ‘yo ng course of direction. Pero magtatalon-tatalon tayo kaagad na may conclusion, walang facts. Napaka-iresponsable nun.”
Dapat siguro sabihin ni Aquino yan sa kanyang sarili at huwag na muna siyang magdaldal habang nag-iimbistiga pa at habang nakaburol pa ang mga namatay at naghihinagpis pa ang mga naiwan ng mga nasawing sundalo.
‘Demoralized’ AFP officials plan to quit
MANILA, Philippines – Several senior military officers are upset over the results of Friday’s command conference with President Benigno Aquino III.
Instead of holding the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) accountable for the deaths of 19 soldiers, it seems the commander-in-chief even blamed the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the violence.
“I was dissatisfied with the performance of the Armed Forces,” said Brigadier General Jose Mabanta, deputy chief of staff for operations of the AFP.
They also disagreed with the President’s decision to stop pursuit operations against several members of the rebel group.
As a result, some officials are thinking about resigning, adding that it seems their hands are tied while fighting rebel groups like the MILF and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang sought, on Saturday, to ease the pain and anger caused by the deaths of soldiers in the hands of members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, with whom the government has been negotiating peace, by saying justice would be done “at the right place, at the right time.”
Undersecretary Abigail Valte, President Benigno Aquino’s deputy spokesperson, indicated Aquino’s decision to forego an all-out offensive against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front doesn’t mean the administration has been undermining the martyrdom of the 19 soldiers who died last week in Al-Barka.
“Let us just stress. We are seeking justice at the right place, at the right time. This doesn’t mean we’re undermining the sacrifice they have taken. That was the farthest thing from the truth,” Valte said over government-run radio station dzRB.

The Commander in Chief should tasked the Officers why the enemies was able to penetrate the defenses and launch an attack on the soldiers…and having he ongoing peace talk is not an excuse for complacency..even boy scouts have that motto to Always be prepared…now who will you blame? the enemy? enemy with always take the opportunity, and if its offered, the better.
Pnoy should make the AFP his partner in his reforms. He should not demoralize them. What will the MILF and NPAs do to support him right now? I still think that he should investigate what happened swiftly and make a quick move to appease the soldiers. Alalahanin niya that the AFP was instrumental in installing his mother into power and also the bansot. It may just be a 120,000 strong group but they are POTENT in the life of his presidency. He can not be favoring CRIMINALS or lawless MILFS and NPAs over his soldiers. HE HAS TO BE CAREFUL. History may repeat itself. He has to learn from our prior experiences of the AFP demoralization. This may even be worse that the election cheating or similar unsavory events which caused the AFP to fall out from their chief! Pnoy can not afford to demoralize the soldiers! Act fast Pnoy to resolve this issue!!!
Although it is understandable that Pnoy wants long lasting peace, he has to be extremely fair in balancing his acts. It may tilt the other way. Instead of “peace”, it will be “peste”!

MILF wants an independent moro land! Their own website promotes No to unitary state, No to integration..etc. The peace that they want is having Mindanao for themselves…they even want to include Palawan. Giving in by letting them control our natural resources in Mindanao, their own security, and government is like giving away everything without regards to many Pilipinos who lives there without asking them want they want. Kala nila sila lang ang may hinaing sa gobyerno. In addition, the MILF leadership condone criminality and indiscrimate killing of our captured soldiers without regards to the peace treaty and human life being a captured combatants. Not once but many times to a point mamugot ng pa sila ng ulo. This is unacceptable! Looks like they do not regard us as partners for peace in a place that we also own!
To have peace in Mindanao, we Pilipinos should wield a very large stick and put them in their place. Our Military should be allowed to fight it out in equal the way they treat us. Kung ngayon nga ang leadership ng MILF ay walang respeto sa buhay ng mga nahuling sundalo what more if they rule the whole of Mindanao.
I just hope our military with the support of our government sorrounds the whole of Basilan and fight it out to kill the killers terrorist two face abu and MILF. Kung tulungan ng mga MILF ang Abu labanan din and put them were they belong, and then build a big military camp in basilan and let them know the Philippines to include Mindanao are for Pilipinos, muslim man o kristyano!
I am a former serviceman and I my heart bleeds for the families and loved ones of the slain soldiers. I would love the army to exact vengeance and make them bastards pay. But alas, I’m not the President and Commander in-chief so I don’t have the authority to wage war. This is what the President is contemplating right now. Oh, it’s so easy to give the order. “All out war!!!” Pulbusin sila lahat! Really? An all out war can immediately escalate and I don’t know if those hawks itching for war are ready for the consequences. Or are they just baiting the President to actually do this and suffer the unimaginable results later on?
Those who have never been assigned to Mindanao will never realize this. We can never end this rebellion unless the government is willing to commit genocide or the wholesale slaughter of men, women and children. Why? Because that is the nature of this beast. If the kibitzers think that our soldiers are only up against the able bodied men of the MILF, they have another think coming. When I was assigned in Basilan in 1992, 22 Marines were massacred, officers were decapitated. FVR was so furious he relieved on the spot the Battalion Commander of 1st MBLT and likewise sacked the Brigade Commander, Brig Gen Antonio Villamor. I will never forget what happened next. Boy, did the Marines exact their vengeance! There was no cellphone then, no FB or Twitter or media to cover the ‘pursuit operations’ that ensued. Marines turned the area into a howling wilderness. Radio chatter had it that the Marines burned everything to the ground. Everyone that posed a threat to the troops, women and children included, were ‘suicided’. This has always been the history of war in Mindanao. No wonder the atrocity committed by both sides on each other is only topped by the next encounter. Ask Magno and Ed Faji in this forum.
Was the President right to blow his top? Hell, yes! I would be, too. Look at the list of fatalities. Notice anything? Look at their ranks. What is the average length of service? Mga hilaw to. New graduates of Special Forces course. Sent to unfamiliar territory for their baptism of fire. Naman tayo! Wala ngang pinagtutunan sa 15 recon marines na namatay din sa Basilan on a test mission and the 19 marines that died in Jolo on a test mission. Na naman? Di ka ba magwawala sa galit nyan? Now they want to start an all out war dahil sa kagaguhan ng opisyal na nag utos na magpakamatay ang mga sundalong ito? Because that’s what they did. The moment they encroached on MILF territory, everyone in that community automatically became their enemy. Everyone? Yes! Everyone who can fire a weapon. Is it any wonder then that all of a sudden, instead of running after a few brigands, they were quickly overwhelmed by hundreds of fighters coming from all directions? No sir! That’s the way war is waged out there.
Now, they are trying to pit Aquino against the AFP for supposedly berating Officers and relieving some of them for speaking their minds out. Where can u find a spokesperson who imposes his own opinion on his bosses? It’s not his job. I would have appreciated Parlade if he volunteered to command the unit that will run after them sons of bitches. But an opinionated Army spokesperson? Nope. That’s not in your job description.
Finally, you never telegraph your intentions to the enemy. Yan ang di maintindihan ng media. Pilit pa ring tinatanong kung hahabulin ba ang mga hinayupak, selective ba, all out ba? These are operational matters. Do they really want the President to tell them, that yes, he gave the go signal to run after the perpetrators. Elite forces were used and were now in Basilan running after them. Really? No wonder, wala tayong nahuhuli palagi. Enough. Just prepare the body bags. They are forthcoming.

I say, scrap the pIECE process. That only things it did was to dismember the Philippines piece by piece and made a territory from where all the criminals are being kept safe by the rebels.

Dahil ba sa ang 19 na napatay sa Albarka ay ‘naligaw’ sa teritoryo ng MILF, samantalang kusang sinalakay ng MILF ang military sa Sibugay?
Ang sa Albarka ay hindi malinaw na salakay ng AFP sa MILF, ang ikalawa ay inamin ng MILF ang krimen laban sa military.
May ceasefire sa pagitan ng gobyerno at leadership ng MILF pero walang ceasefire sa field. Hindi rin makukuha sa usapan kung aksidenteng magkaharap sila gaya ng pagkaligaw ng military sa Albarka.

Ayan ang hindi ko maintindihan, 19 basilan at 6 pa sa zamboanga, sibugay ang mga napatay na sundalo, pero bakit mas nagalit si pnoy sa mga sundalo. ang masakit nito nag bitiw pa ng salitang paninisi sa mga sundalo.
Alam mo Ms. Ellen, kahit sinong sundalo at mga Pilipino ang tanungin mo ay galit na galit sa nangyari, pero ang sasabihin ng mga sundalo na ayaw magsalita at takot na mawalan ng trabaho ay sasabihin na mataas pa rin ang morale ng mga sundalo.

Walang kahihinatnang positibo ang anumang peace negotiation na ginagawa ng pamahalaan (mula kay Ramos hanggang sa kasalukuyang administrasyon. Siguro si Erap lang ang may ibang pananaw, yung talagang palaban). Ang dahilan sa aking pananaw, ang Pilipinas ay lagi na lang pumapasok sa negosasyon sa punto ng kahinaaan ke sa MILF yan o sa NDF/NPA man. Kaya sa simula pa lang talo na. Bakit kailangang sa ibang bansa gawin ang negosasyon? Gusto ba natin ay matinong usapan na may mararating o gusto lang ng mga negosyador na makbiyahe at kumulekta ng per diem na dolyar? Hindi ba ang problema ay nasa Pilipinas? Kung tapat ang dalawang panig na magkaroon ng pangmatagalang kapayapaan, dito Pinas dapat gawin ang anumang usapan. Halimbawa, yung usapan sa MILF, kung malakas ang loob ng Government panel, bakit hindi nila imungkahi na sa Basilan halimbawa magusap o kung NDF/NPA naman bakit hindi sa kabundukan (yung tinatawag na teritoryo ng NDF/NPA) mag usap. Sa ganitng paraan, madali ang ground truthing at madali ring mapulsuhan ang saloobin ng mga kasama nila. Saka bakit pumayag ang gobyerno na kilalanin ang ATS? Nabili na ba ng MILF ang bahaging ito ng Pinas para pagbawalang pumasok ang hindi nila kaalyado?

Kaya nga po mas magandang idulog sa international war tribunal ang ginawa ng mga milf at kung pwede wag nang making sa mga bansang may personal na interes sa Pilipinas.

Tama rin po ang sinabi nyo na maganda ang medyo mabagal o delay at hindi nadadala sa mataas na emosyon ang pag dedesisyon, nguint kung ang kabilang panig ay hindi rin naman susunod, dapat na ito ay aksyunan na agad.

Let us not be so predictable. The enemy is laughing at us already, how we take down our leadership every time something goes wrong like children with tantrums. Let those who want “all out war” gear up and go to Basilan immediately o baka pa image lang yan?
Look at the facts, who were killed here? Mga bagito! Why would any commander send neophytes to a known hostile area, the enemy had the advantage of terrain and even intelligence (di ba may A1 intel sila?)? So we want a president who will cry with the mourners, shout anti moslem, genocidal threats? That would get a lot of political mileage really, but its not called for now. Are we to believe our soldiers, our officers now are cry babies already? They are a tough kick ass bunch, and if those cowardly officers who spend a lot of time in the golf courses rather than with their men want to resign – let them. Ask any veteran of Mindanao, our side has committed our share of atrocities, there is a reason why there is atrocious behavior in the war zone – both of us are trying to undo each other in how cruel and inhuman we can be.
Let us not allow the media to be used as a propaganda tool by those who want a protracted war in Mindanao, let us not act or react so predictably. Think people, think! Who stands to benefit from the status quo?
Let us not salivate every time media waves something in front of us like Pavlov’s dog, we are capable of thinking for ourselves.

We want lasting peace, the soldiers want lasting peace, even the moslems want lasting peace. Those who benefit from war do not, so they will continue to agitate the situation, until we wise up and realize we have been played like fools all these years.
Do we honestly believe that the moslems who have been there since time immemorial will just lay down and let the settlers, the government, the land grabbing shrewd businessmen/politicians drive them out form their ancestral lands like the American plains indians? Sila na hindi nagpaloko sa mga Espanol dati with their missionary approach? After fighting off the spaniards, the americans, the japanese?
War will not work, we inherited these problems from our elders who thought the same, kaya nga experience will not work here. We need to approach this problem with a new perspective to shift from the paradigm of war which is win/lose (actually bottomline lose/lose) to a win/win one. How can we have peace when we don’t trust each other?
The media should just report the facts and not attempt to mold public sentiment lest they be used as a tool for propaganda. Its time we had a responsible media, our emotions have been played like violins for far too long.

Kung gusto nilang mapalaganap ang ceasefire ay ipasalong ang mga armas ng kahit ano’ng grupo ng mga rebelde. Kung ayaw tugusin nang walang tigil at ipadama sa kanila na IISA lamang ang sandatahang lakas na dapat umiral sa Pilipinas at hindi kabilang dito ang mga grupong kriminal katulad ng MILF, NPA, Abu Sayyaf at mga katulad. Kasunod ng pagkalupig sa mga grupong ‘yan ay ipatupad nang buong katapatan ang mga programang pangkaunlaran sa pamamagitan ng isang transparent na pamamalakad at gawing halimbawa ding tukuyin, kasuhan at ipakulong ang mga tiwaling opisyal ng gobyerno UPANG lalong makuha ang tiwala at suporta ng taong bayan.
Tanggalin na rin ang letseng pork barrel na ‘yan upang walang lamangan sa pagsasagawa ng infrastructure projects at gamitin ang mga engineering brigades/battalions ng Sandatahang Lakas upang lalong mapalapit ang mga sibilyan sa ating mga kawal/gobyerno.
Ang mga rebeldeng ‘yan ay hindi dapat binibeybi kundi sinusugpong parang mga anay upang mapigilang lamunin ang pundasyon ng kapayapaan ng ating bansa.
Ang kailangan natin sa panahong ito ay ‘yung pinunong hindi bulaklak lamang ng dila ang sinasabing pagsunod sa kanyang mga boss kundi isang pinunong pinangangalagaan ang kapakanan ng lahat at hindi sa iilang nakapaligid sa kanya at higit ay ‘yung pagkunsinti sa mga lumalabag sa batas.
Bakit merong controlled zone itong MILF at kailangan pang humingi ng permiso upang makiraan ang ating mga kawal kapag merong pursuit operations laban sa mga Abu Sayyaf na maliwanag din namang kabilang din sa MILF? At kapag nalamang merong police operations ay tatambangan nila’t palalabasing sila ay inatake at unang pinutukan?
Kung ganyan din lamang kalambot ang mga tuhod ng sinumang presidente, aba’y isuko na lamang ang gobyerno sa mga rebeldeng ‘yan. Ano pang silbi?

Trillanes seeks probe on possible military lapses

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV wants a Senate inquiry into the military’s possible operational and tactical lapses in its test mission in Al-Barka, Basilan, which resulted to the deaths of 19 soldiers.
A former soldier himself, Trillanes is angered by the deaths of the soldiers. He believes more officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) should be held accountable.
He will also look into the peace agreement being forged between government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
“Kailangan natin malaman kung kontrolado ba talaga ng MILF ‘yung kanilang mga commanders,” Trillanes said.
Meanwhile, former Col. Ariel Querubin believes that the government should be serious in bringing to justice the rebels behind the killings.

Binay wants review of MILF ceasefire agreement

Vice-president Jejomar Binay wants a review of the government’s cease-fire agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) following recent clashes with the group in parts of Mindanao.
“I strongly urge that we revisit the terms of the cease-fire agreement with the MILF,” Binay said. “We should be very clear about accountabilities. Those who violate it should be punished.”
Binay also offered his condolences to the families of those who died.

Had this happened to the US, when they got Bin Laden, also without permission, would it have been justified for Pakistan to kill the US soldiers? Hindi di ba? And the US would not have taken it lying down.

AFP told to explain to soldiers Aquino’s stand-down order on MILF
President Benigno Aquino III has ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines to explain to soldiers the reasons why the government is not launching an all-out-war against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front amid reports of widespread demoralization in the military.
…..Several senior military officers were reportedly upset with the outcome of Friday’s command conference in Camp Aguinaldo during which the President expressed disappointment over the alleged lapses of the military.
Former President Fidel Ramos over the weekend also chided government chief negotiator Marvic Leonen for calling the killings an “isolated incident.” Ramos advised Leonen to go to Basilan to see for himself the situation on the ground where MILF rebels have repeatedly attacked soldiers running after members of the Abu Sayyaf Group.

How can you have lasting peace when they dont speak with one voice? Misuari–>Salamat–>Kato? Walang katapusan ito. Hirap man sabihin pero walang pagasa ang katahimikan dyan sa Mindanao.
Itong si Ramos ay dapat tumahimik nalang. Kasalanan mo lahat ito. Ikaw ang nangako na ibibigay mo sa kanila ang Mindanao para lang tahimik sa regimo mo. Hindi mo inisip yung mga susunod na presidente. Akala mo siguro ma gogoyo mo mga muslim.
Hindi ako naniniwalang may “peace” ever dyan sa Mindanao. Dahil nakikialam ang mga mayayamang bansa dyan. Lahat sila gustong kamkamin and mga natural resources ng parte ng bansa nating yan. Mas maganda siguro kung we learn how to live with it na lang katulad ng Israel at Palestine. Araw araw eh nagpapatayan at palaging may peace talks na hindi naman natatapos.
One of these days, the NPAs will also create territories where no one can go in. Ano ba yan? Tapos ang masama pa dyan, kinukupkop nila ang mga kriminals! Kung may gumawa ng krimen sa mga dakong yan, tatakbo lang sila sa MILF at tapos na ang pagtugis sa kanila. Yan tuloy ang grupo nila eh naturingang mga kriminal din. Akala ni Pnoy eh kaya niyang makipag-usap sa mga hoodlum na ito. I do not think these criminals will settle for anything less than partitioning the country and giving Mindanao to them. They want an autonomy para maibenta nila ang kayamanan ng Mindanao sa mga dayuhan. Then what? Pagkatapos nilang ibenta ang kanilang patrimony ano ang susunod?
Hindi magkakaroon ng peace sa Mindanao dahil hindi alam ng Malacanang, lalo na ni Penoy, ang bigger picture ng buong Mindanao. Kung inyong matatandaan, noong panahon ni Marcos halos tapos na ang kaguluhan sa Mindanao dahil si Misuari nag-self-exile sa ibang bansa. Pag-upo ni Cory, binigyan niya ng amnesty ang lahat na kalaban ng gobyerno gaya ni Misuari, Joma Sison, Kumander Dante, etc. para i-project niya na siya ay kabaligtaran ni Marcos. Hindi nagtagal, balik-NDF-CPP si Joma at si Misuari reactivated the MNLF. Dahil sa importansya na ibinigay kay Misuari ni Cory pati na ang pagiging governor ng Muslim Autonomous Region kung saan siya nagkamal ng milyon-milyong salapi, isang grupo ng mga Muslim ang nagtatag ng panibagong faction: ang MILF. Matapos ang paghahari-harian ng MNLF sa Mindanao, nag-demand ng recognition ang MILF from the Ramos administration. Sa panahong iyon, lantaran ng lumalabas sa city or town ang fully-armed na battalion-size ng MILF na hindi pwedeng pakialaman ng gobyerno. They also turned into baditry, exacting revolutionary taxes from big businesses. Pag hindi nagbigay pumapatay at nanununog ng mga buses. Pag-upo ni Erap,binigyan niya ng katarungan ang pagkaapi ng mga civilians. Naglunsad siya ng all-out war against MILF. Wala na sana ang MILF, pero pag-upo ni Gloria, ginamit niya ito sa pansariling kapakanan. Nabuhay at lumakas na naman ang MILF, killing innocent civilians, burning villages, and beheading captured soldiers, with impunity. Lahat na demands ng MILF ay ibinibigay ng gobyerno at muntik ng mahati ang Mindanao dahil gustong ibigay ni Gloria ang ancestral domain kuno ng mga Muslim sa kanila. Thanks to Supreme Court at hindi ito natuloy. Pag-upo ni Penoy na walang alam sa mga issue, na gaya ng kanyang ina may kimkim na galit sa military, pinanigan niya ang MILF at itinuloy ang usapang Peace. Ang MILF o sinumang armadong Muslim ay hindi naniniwala sa Peace. Tandaan ninyo iyan. Ang MILF ay hindi papasok sa isang usapan na hindi sila ang nakakalamang. Hindi sila marunong magparaya. Ang MILF na may kamag-anak sa Abbu Sayaf ay kakampi sa Abu Sayaf kahit ito ay mali. Dapat matuto ang gobyerno sa history ng rebellion and terrorism sa Mindanao. Sa ngayon ang peace talk ay very disadvantegous on the part of the government. Pag nakapatay ng sundalo o pulis ang MILF sasabihin na nag-violate ng peace process ang military at sila ay inosente, kahit na sila ang nang-ambushed. Pag nakapatay ng civilians ang sasabihin, casualties of war. Wake up Penoy, huwag kang patulog-tulog, gamitin mo ang utak mo kung mayroon ka.

So don’t expect any help from the US in terms of modern weapons to defeat the MILF. US wants a Bangsa Moro carved out of the Philippines so they can stay in that territory permanently. Why are they so interested in the MOAD before, huh?
Erap was successful in getting back all the camps WITHOUT US help… and lo and behold, US was one among the first ( the list includes Cory, Cardinal Sin, FVR, Mar Roxas, MBC,… all the yellows ) who demanded the ERAP stop finishing off the MILF who were on the run. Why? That is, inspite of their EARLIER warning to ERAP that Camp Abubakar cannot be taken. And under Erap’s leadership, the AFP were able to take Camp AbuBakar and the sattellite camps , remember? That is without US help, mind you. The MILF were the one asking asking help from their US patron, then, I supposed…
Oh, well… that’s the tragedy of the Filipino people. All of their revolutions are incomplete and always fuc**d up by the elites.

There’s no public clamor to oust PNoy, his rating are high. No media, civil society noise & no USA support. These things are needed to have a successful coup IMO. The unsuccesful attempted coups of the past can attest to this. During Cory’s time, Honasan’s coup failed because he has no support from civil society and the US. Magdalo coup, although have some support from public and some from civil society & business still has no US support, failed. Thats the reality we have to accept.
Having said these, I personaly don’t support such activity from the military since the end result could be much worse than the regime they’re going to depose.
The monster created by successful coups can be seen in other countries like Iraq during Sadam Hussein’s reign and Libya’s Gadhafi. An exception would be Thailand maybe because they have a King, a monarchy that the people respect and listen to.

So which units will take over the vacuum that will result? How do u transport these troops? Remember that the MILF are not only in Basilan. They have forces in Central Mindanao as well. which houses their largest camps actually. More often than not, we have to rely on the Navy to transport them? How many working LSTs do we have in the Navy inventory right now? How long will it take to preposition all the required troops and logistics? A month?

I was referring to the coups staged by Sadam Hussein (1979) & Muammar Gadhafi (1969) in their respective countries which were successful. But it turned them into monsters.
The reason why Erap was successfully ousted aside from his alleged involvement in corruption, etc. is 1. he is stubborn. 2. too trusting, 3. US support, 4. support from media, 5. support from civil society, 6. support from big business.

Anyway, what I find very frustrating with BSA is that up to now ( more than 1 year later ) walang maipakitang roadmap ang mokong ! Si Erap na linalait-lait ng mga DILAW, pag-upong pag-upo… sinabi nya kaagad na ang cornerstone nang administration nya is Agriculture ( SELF sufficiency ). Any project like the farm to market roads were given priorities. Ibig bang sabihin, yung undergraduate na artista, mas matino pang mag-isip ? GMA , on the other hand, enforced rice importation, for obvious reasons.
Noong pinagbawalan ni Erap ang mga Lopez at Ayala na magtaas nang presyo ng tubig dahil in the first place, binenta nga sa kanila yung utilities with the assumption na they will run them efficiently and thus keeping the price down. Di ba as soon as maupo si GMA, sunod-sunod ang pagtaas ng mga utilities.
He put the right people like Ben Diokno sa Finance and a near bankrupt treasury was able to recover in 6 months time. He didn’t sign any IPP or gov’t insured loans to private entities. No wonder the MBC ganged up on the guy.
He also tried to curtail the PORK barrels of the congressmen. Obviously, they will be against him for doing so.

We have to operate not just from a local perspective but in an international one. Take the case of Sri Lanka, why were they successful with their management of the Tamil Tigers? Billions of help from the Chinese on the inside and because China occupies a very influential position in the UN, all the outside forces ie Sweden, Human Rights groups, etc, were effectively blocked from interferring in a real “all out war.”
Guerilla warfare is difficult, as these combatants are deeply embedded in a particular society, the non combatants have fathers, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, KKK, with the combatants. They can hide in populated areas joining the civilians no need for camouflage or they can use civilians as “willing” human shields. Well, a real all out war would be the willingness to ruthlessly plow through these women, old people, and children, and combatants, kill them all. While we’re at it, lets kill all the children hiding in the villages or forests as they will surely grow up to be avenging combatants eventually, and lets kill all the mothers too, they will bear future combatants too?
Lets have a total media blackout, no one must know, no human rights bleeding hearts, no one. No outside intervention must be allowed, do not listen to the UN, just “all out war” every man, woman, and child – totally eradicate the enemy and make this as a showcase of how tough we are, Asiong Aksaya (este Salonga pala) at his best. Now that would solve the Mindanao problem once and for all! And don’t forget the televised clenched fist raised with wrist band shouting “pupulbuisin ko kayo lahat!” cameras whirring, flashes, etc, with matching biopics later.
Contrast that to making this issue into a full blown police issue, depicting the ASG/MILF add the CPP/NPA, all the letters in the alphabet – and make them into ruthless, lawless, ragtag band of criminals devoid of any worthwhile political cause. Make them look like terrorists (which they really are) and erode their support from international bleeding hearts, support from the locals, etc, then eliminate the ones we’re after in quiet, surgical, no media, no fanfare, decisive move. My friend died earlier hacked beyond recognition by the ASG and I didn’t even hear a word from you. Nobody cared, really, now you ‘re up in arms because the president didn’t cry and instead lambasted the commanders? What really happened? Did you bother to find out? Well, these bagitos were undergoing SCUBA diving training in all places Basilan, and along the way, they were tasked to catch this Asnawi guy as a side trip. So naturally the local police (not included in the arrest order probably) and other concerned citizens inadvertently tipped off the guy and his friends who were MILF and they promptly ambushed them. Unfortunately for our guys they were caught unprepared, they had bullets but not much were in the magazines, hence they were putting bullets in the mags while the fighting was going on.
I’d listen to Trillanes, among stalwarts like Biazon and Querubin, he’s the only one making sense.
and please, our soldiers don’t need sympathy, they don’t need crocodile tears, they don’t deserve to be used as political statements or media moneymakers (headline grabbers, etc).

Hard to accept and sad to say, the military operation was a blunder. This was my first impression upon knowing of the casualty count. The more I know about the incident, the more I believe that it was a blunder. The Army’s Special Forces conducted a Military Scuba Diving course (Class 42-11) for its 44 personnel. Many SF battalions sent their young lieutenants and enlisted men to this course; that explains why the casualties were lieutenants and private first class (PFC). Young hearts and young blood died in a war that started before they were born. They died in a real shooting war, not the kind of games played on PSPs, computers, with paint bullets or pellets. They died shooting not steel plates or paper targets but at targets who were shooting back. Their targets were heavily armed and grew in numbers as the hours go by.
SF’s Scuba courses normally do not require test mission but somehow along the military’s way, they tasked the Scuba class to a test mission – to serve a warrant of arrest of a certain local guy – a job of the local police. Why was the Special Forces tasked to arrest a local? The Special Forces, I assumed, knew that the local police will not arrest the local. But did they assume that the policemen and the locals will not tip off the suspects and all the armed people of the town? The subject of the arrest warrant is no ordinary local. He is the deputy commander of MILF’s 114th base command and responsible for the killing and beheading of 14 Philippine Marines in 2007. Did the military commander assume that the test mission will be successful and that the MILF will not violate the ceasefire by sitting and watching idly while one of their commanders is being handcuffed? Lapse in judgment? Gambled the lives of the soldiers? Why the high casualties? Did the soldiers wiggle their way out of the killing zone because they were observing the provisions of ceasefire during the firefight?
Obviously, the MILF is responsible for the murder and attempted murder of the soldiers. The MILF are again caught lying to their teeth. First, they denied that those involved were their armed members. After sensing that they killed more than their own casualty, they claimed responsibility by lying again that the soldiers of the Republic of the Philippines were in their territory and that the military attacked them. Such lies show how precarious it is to deal with the MILF liars. These lies also are symptoms of a rogue and disorganized rebel force. The MILF members are not like our educated and literate soldiers who are trained to respect the law. Our soldiers are disciplined since they are subject to the Articles of War and laws of the Republic of the Philippines. They are aware of the provisions on the ceasefire agreement.
The battle site is four kilometers from the MILF camp. Granting that the soldiers wandered into a real estate claimed by MILF as their territory, why murder the soldiers? Why gang up on the 44 soldiers with all the 400 alleged combatants of the MILF? What territory? Whose territory? I know a lieutenant who, way back in 1994, was the Company Commander of Bravo Company, 27th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army. He was tasked to secure the outskirts of Parang, Maguindanao during a visit of then President Fidel V. Ramos. While clearing and securing the 5-kilometer radius, a Muslim rebel commander sent him a message, through a messenger, that the soldiers are entering his territory and the rebels will not hesitate to shoot at the soldiers. The lieutenant simply told the messenger that he will order his troops to shoot everyone (rebels and their relatives) who steps outside the rebels’ imaginary territory, especially those found in highways and roads funded by the people of the Republic of the Philippines. The rebels behaved while the Bravo Company was around their “territory” for more than a year. Tooth for a tooth?

The article that Jug mentioned in his post earlier, duly noted that after the capture of the camps in Central Mindanao, MILF camps sprouted in Basilan ( because GMA allowed them to, I presumed ). Is that good or bad in military point of view ? I mean, I would prefer that they have a camp in an island rather than letting them camp in Central Mindanao. The Tamils were routed because they were cornered in the peninsula. Surely it is harder to contain them if they are in Central Mindanao.

Hi Jug, I personally believe that forging a peace agreement will bring peace in Mindanao. There will be another break away faction that will come out. In my opinion, MILF had always counted on the gov’t to consider the cost of the total war and they expect the gov’t to back down after doing so. They could have miscalculated with Erap. They thought he will less of a threat than FVR , who even gave them money that they used against the AFP. One cannot negotiate peace with someone who is insincere and uses treachery (while negotiating) to advance their cause. If we cannot do an all out war as some has suggested. Then the government thru it’s armed forces and police should go all out and capture and put to justice those bastards who doesn’t want peace and who only want to secede and form their own government.
In Psych 101, they teach the concept of reinforcements – positive and negative. Positive reinforcement is when you reward good behavior; negative is when you punish bad behavior. Some people do the opposite, and reward bad behavior. Bigyan ng candy yung nagta-tantrum na bata.
The MILF is being rewarded for bad behavior. Tuwing may trouble, lalong nag-uumigting yung “peace tayo, usap muna tayo.”
I don’t know why, kung kontra ka kay BS Aquino, people think you advocate war. Nasaan na yung think out of the box?
I would suspend peace talks, without recommending war, for a period, say six months. Kung nag-behave kayo, then usap tayo. If you behave for another year, then we submit first drafts. If you behave another year, then we pass the enabling act. These are just off-the cuff ideas. The periods may vary.
The point is, there may be disagreement with the current peace negotiators without being in favor of war. Also, I would fire these negotiators. Si Erap ang ilagay niyo. Bwahaha.
I see no need to hurry up the peace talks on the part of the government. For as long as the rebels are kept within their lairs, there is no need to attack. Of course, the towns outside must be protected from the rebels’ attacks.
It is the rebels who are in a hurry, because their mode of conduct is becoming passe. Yung idolo nilang mga mandirigma, Gaddafi, Bin Laden, etc., hindi na popular sa kabataang Arabo, in the wake of the Arab Spring. All that Che Guevarra crap na idolo ng mga tandang tibak, Joma, Nur Misuari, etc., passe na. Laos na sila. So they want to reach for the stars now, before history renders them irrelevant.
So hintay lang, and wait out their irrelevancy. Yan ang dapat gawin ng gobyerno. Ganyan din ang mga NPA. Sabi nga ng French ceramologist (mayaman ang kanyang dibdib), when told there were communists, “You should put up a museum here.”

ON a bigger picture, should we make peace with MILF? After what I heard from the GRP negotiator on TV, who is a RET Gen. even ( who seems to be at a lost and willing to give something SUBSTANTIAL to the MILF ), I would say NO. Because there is no guarantee that after MILF peace talk, there won’t BE ANOTHER rebel group coming out of the woodwork, much like what happened when upon conclusion of peace talks with MNLF. Presidenting is a hard stuff and Noynoy seemed out of place. He is confused and his priorities are never clear except for a couple of things: An all out war against the Arroyos and the pampering of the MILF. Peace talks have no place where one party does not make it a serious business.The MILF is never been sincere in talking about peace. They are making demands that are impossible to meet, maybe hoping that the weakling president will eventually give in. They already got him in an awkward position, a killing spree where several soldiers have been killed, and no fighting words from him. A test where Noynoy failed miserably.

1. Bago umupo sa negotiation table ay ipasalong muna ang mga armas ng mga rebelde.
2. Isuko nila ang mga sinasabing renegade groups na siyang may kagagawan ng mga ambush at makahayop na pagpatay sa mga nabihag nang buhay.
3. Abandonahin nila ang mga areas of temporary stay na maliwanag na pinagkakanlungan nila ng mga kriminal.
4. Kung sino ang maiiwan sa bundok, hindi magsasalong ng armas ay siyang tutugisin sa ilulunsad na all-out-war.
5. Habang nagsasagawa ng all-out-war kasabay ng peace talk ay balangkasin ng bawat panig ang usaping rehabilitasyon ng mga nagsipagsalong ng mga armas at tulungan sila upang makapamuhay muli nang normal.
6. Ipaubaya sa mga pulis at kawal ang pagtugis sa mga kriminal at ang mga pulitiko’t sibilyang opisyales ng gobyerno ay gawin ang tungkulin sa kanilang mga nasasakupan at huwag sumawsaw sa usaping pakikidigma sa mga rebelde.
Hindi dapat gawing isolated case ang Mindanao sapagkat ito ang rehiyong NAPAKATAGAL nang pinabayaan ng alinmang nagdaang administrasyon kung saan MAS PINALALA pa ng pinalitang gobyernong sa halip na ilaan ang pondo para sa kaunlaran ay IPINALAMON sa mga kaalyadong katulad nila ay sugapa sa kapangyarihan, ang angkan ng Ampatuan upang matupad ang ambisyon ni Gloria’ng mamalagi (sana) sa Malakanyang habang siya’y nabubuhay.

I admire the brave souls around here, the country is blessed to have all these heroic, ultra courageous, ready to die anytime, assets of the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines – Former Basilan Special Operations Task Force commander Col. Alexander Macario has accused the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) of treachery following the death of 19 soldiers who were going after wanted fugitives in the province.
Macario, who has been relieved of his command because of the Al-Barka incident, told reporters that the military asked the MILF’s permission to enter its Area of Temporary Stay (ATS) to serve an arrest warrant for Hadji Dan Laksaw Asnawi.

The Americans continuing their military presence (short or medium term as we both agreed there is no permanent one) via these treaties is not illegal, nor is it disadvantageous to us. Again without the Americans, the balance of power goes to the MILF as sponsored by our frenemy neighbor Malaysia, and then piping dilat’s best friend, China.
The difference between the Americans and the Chinese, the Americans does not claim the islands. They have their own interest and that does not include taking over our country.

May pagkukulang man ang military commanders sa Basilan ay hindi dahilan ‘yun upang sisihin sila in public because that concludes a leadership bias like the PeNoy has. Lumalabas din na sa bawat mali ng ating mga kawal ay dagdag puntos na simpatiya at kiling ng administrasyon sa mismong kalabang kung tutuusin ay hindi sinusuyo kundi tinutugis at hidni binibigyang pagkakataon upang makapag-regroup, recruit and re-arm.

And why should you be more concerned about an impeding invader over one who’s already here, manipulating the country affairs so as to prevent it from being truly independent? This invader has been in connivance with the ruling elite since the early 20th century to keep the status quo of the Philippines , a non industrialized country good for supplying labor and services only. The Philippines is to remain a source of raw materials only.

Again, I say change starts within and blaming others is not the solution. I am witness to people belong to the lower social order becoming rich simply through hard work.
(As a side note and as an example: I personally know this market vendor who sent her kids to named college who are now leaders in their field. The market vendor is someone i knew since i was young and she did these all by hardwork and diligent; and she never blamed or felt any animosity towards her customers who were way richer than she was).
