Period.

  1. Statement of Sen. Edgardo J. Angara

After the resignation of Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri and the withdrawal of his counter-protest, the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) will issue a resolution approving said withdrawal. Since there would no longer be any counter-protest, the protest of Mr. Pimentel would be upheld. After this resolution, it will go to the Comelec, which will proclaim Mr. Pimentel as the winner.

This process may take about two weeks, that’s an educated guess. But I will not sign that resolution because I am no longer a member of the SET. My term just finished toward the end of July.

We are sad to see Senator Zubiri go. He is a diligent and hardworking legislator. But the Senate will accept the outcome of all this.

  3. Kakandidato raw uli si Zubiri sa 2013 for the senate.

  6. at nakakapagod kamung makinig sa mga taong halos gawing dyosa ang zubiri! kung talagang para sa bayan sya, pinag-laban nya tayo! isang part time on the job training ang ginawa nya to the tune of about P800MIL!

May mga humahanga kay Zubiri kasi kahit na papaano daw eh nag-resign and he redeemed himself. Also, the people I spoke with said, they will vote for him when he runs again. I guess he got some mileage on his resignation. So ngayon he will be touring the world and when he comes back, he will position himself to run again and win. Even Tito Sotto who ran under Team Unity and served at the pleasure of pandak, di ba ibinoto rin?

    Ellen I have a question.
When Arroyo decided to stake it all in the 2007 elections in risk of “eternal damnation” as PDI put it, what was the exit strategy post Arrovo government? For sure what is happening now, that they allow the chips to fall one by one, is not what they had in mind after they are out of power. They had to have a plan. Gibo seems long shot to me. I dont believe someone with the evil genius of Arrovo et al will really trust it all on Gibo. He seemed like a sacrificial candidate to me to highlight the true presidential candidate who will perpetuate or at least forget Arrovo’s crimes. Sino kaya and what was the plan?

  12. I can’t believe these people, why the hell are they talking about Zubiri as if he was God’s gift to the Filipino people? Come on, 12-0 still doesn’t hit you like a ton of bricks? Willful dumbing of t he supposedly educated!

  13. Gibo also allowed himself to be used, he could have done something as DND chief to prevent the Ampatuan massacre as he already warned Mangundadatu what would happen but he just let it happen anyway.
If we’re looking for the next president I’m putting all my eggs on Trillanes, if we’re really looking for someone untarnished yet. Hey, what Aquino started now won’t be finished in 6 years only, we need someone with the same clean position but ratch it up a notch in aggressiveness. Give the boy a chance.

#15 jug, I agree that Trillanes is certainly worth watching as a presidentiable; let’s see what he can do for the rest of his term as senator. Interestingly, there’s a news item today on PDI re Trillanes recalling his meeting with GMA prior to the Oakwood mutiny. This provides some insight into the man’s mind, and of course only confirms what we thought of GMA all along. Portions:

“At that time, Navy Lieutenant Trillanes had been monitored as leading a coup plot against Arroyo. To clarify matters, he agreed to meet with the then President through a former classmate working in Malacañang.

“But he himself had a pressing reason for wanting to see Arroyo, Trillanes said. He wanted to ask her about “Oplan Greenbase,” a supposed secret government plot to sow terror in Mindanao, pin the blame on the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, and convince the global community to declare the MILF an “international terrorist group” in an effort to draw more antiterror funds.

“Trillanes said Oplan Greenbase included the “clearing” of the Buliok complex in Pikit, North Cotabato, from MILF influence so that the land, believed to be rich in oil and other natural resources, could be developed by foreign business groups. He said the bombing in March and April 2003 of the Davao International Airport and Sasa Wharf, both in Davao City, where scores of civilians were killed, were also implementations of Greenbase.

“I had to find out whether President Arroyo was in on it or not. That’s how I ended up in Malacañang [on July 13, 2011], to see for myself,” Trillanes said. I presented [the document] to her. [I said,] ‘Ma’am, what is this? Can you explain to us what this is all about, because this is causing a lot of demoralization in the ranks?’

“She went over it. She didn’t speak. Sa taray niya (despite her shrewish manner)—you know, like if I show you a check with your signature, if it’s not yours, you’d react—but she just kept quiet. She looked at General (Delfin) Bangit, and Bangit intervened. He said, ‘You know, hijo (son), there are some things you don’t need to know.’”

“That was not the answer I was looking for. Then I said something like, ‘This officer is corrupt, and you are going to promote him.’ And I was waiting for her to tell me, ‘Ganito kasi yan (This is how it is)…’

“I was still holding on to the Edsa II propaganda—that we removed a corrupt president and replaced him with this woman who will usher in new politics, new government, moral regeneration. A woman with a Ph.D. and political pedigree. I was still holding on … But nothing.

“In that meeting, I saw what a heartless person she was. She did not deserve to stay a second longer in office. She didn’t care about the soldiers, about the people. Nothing. The only thing she cared about was her image as President. I saw it, believe me. I felt it. Which was why my determination was firmed up.”

  16. phil,
Imagine yourself in his shoes, young, impressionable, meeting with the commander in chief, wanting to tell her that her generals are misrepresenting her, abusing their power in cahoots with shady businessmen and politicians, going against her mandate of good government – only to find out that she was in on it.
I remember the face of the charater Mel Gibson played in Braveheart when he was betrayed by his king and nobles who were coopted by the enemy they were fighting.

  17. chi chi

phil, I was laughing so hard while reading that story. Trillanes meeting with “Gloria in a green pajamas” was certainly the Senator’s worst nightmare. Hahahaha!

Ano kaya hitsura ng bitch in a green pajamas? 🙂

  18. chi chi

    Btw, Happy Birthday Senator Trillanes!

  19. phil phil

chi, just imagine a ‘duwende’ in green pajamas!
Sen. Trillanes was gracious enough not to comment on how GMA looked. But he did have a valid complaint that the media focused on those green pajamas instead of the issues discussed in the meeting.

  20. chi chi

I could just imagine, phil. 🙂

jug, be careful on your ‘plan’ for Trillanes, some inferior-thinking politicians might gang up on him this early, hehehe! But yes, I agree with you and phil, the Senator is worth watching.

  21. We need someone coming from the “working class” this time, Aquino has an unfair advantage, he’s a haciendero, single, in his mid fifty’s – he can afford to be clean, he doesn’t need the money.
We need to see if someone who comes from the working class, with children, with a first lady, can actually keep his nose clean for just “six years.”

  22. chi chi

jug, don’t look at me, you very well know my position re Sen. Sonny’s future in politics, 🙂 🙂 🙂

  23. If I may continue, phil:

    Sense of urgency
Trillanes said Greenbase gave him and his colleagues a sense of urgency to make a move: “We wanted to tell the world, ‘This is your President, this is your kind of President.”
He pointed out that he had spoken with the Commander in Chief and gone “through the chain about Greenbase.”

“When I found out she was in on it, I had nowhere to go. There was no choice but to go to the people directly. We were naively thinking that the people would see the light and the media would report it the way they did in Edsa Dos,” Trillanes said.

“But our problem was it was not that easy to deliver such a complicated message to the public. And the media had other motivations. The media installed Arroyo, so they were inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt,” he said.
Trillanes said he and his colleagues presented their message to the people, who ignored it (“dinedma ng tao”).

“The people have spoken, so they get the government that they deserve,” he said.

And instead of tackling the issue of Greenbase, Trillanes said, the media focused on soldiers’ decrepit combat boots, and even the green pajamas that Arroyo was wearing on the night she met with him.(emphasis mine)

If I remember it right may sinabi din si Trillanes about the Spratly’s issue so much earlier?

  25. tt,

  26. chi chi

Kasi hawak pa ni Pidal nun ang karamihan sa media who apparently did not want to offend the korap couple kaya iba ang focused ng articles nila.

  27. There were also those in media who were not paid but they had friends in the military who hated the Magdalos’ guts. They didn’t like Trillanes for rocking the boat.

In fact during the Manila Peninsula incident, there were those, known to be press freedom advocates who said, we deserved the treatment we got (being arrested and handcuffed).

They were displeased that the military were not able to massacre Trillanes and the rest of the Magdalo boys because of our presence there.

Well, I know of one, he poses with a baseball bat. 🙂

Personally, I thought that was foolhardy of you too putting yourselves in harms’ way, so do your families I believe but someone’s got to do his/her job. 🙂

  29. And its true, if you guys weren’t there, it could’ve been a massacre and Gloria would still be president now.

Agree, jug… if Ellen, Charmaine Deogracias and other patriot journalists were not there, patay sina Trillanes at si Gloria at Mike hindi lang lima ang helicopters.

#26 Tt-thanks for continuing the news; that part is also very important as it highlights the role of the media in such critical events.
I think Sen. Trillanes and his group miscalculated. Even if their message was clear and the media supported them, I doubt that they would have succeeded at that point. He and his group did not yet enjoy the popularity to sufficiently capture the attention and support of the masses. Yes, there was growing dissatisfaction with the putot regime, but she still enjoyed the support of the higher rungs in the military, government, and the Catholic Church (who had kept quiet all along) who were all beneficiaries of her largesse courtesy of the people’s money.
But of course, that event and his subsequent incarceration fueled his popularity and the public voted him senator even while in jail.

  33. Portion of the interview of Koko Pimentel by Karen Davila:

Q: Seeing him on TV, I was with you that day, what do you make of it now?
In all honesty, when I heard the privilege speech, a lot of things were omitted. A lot of things which were factual or which I wanted to hear were omitted. When I heard his post-speech interviews, there must also be a reason why he omitted. When this was supplemented, I felt satisfied and I felt his sincerity.

Q: Do you see it also as a sacrifice on his part?
Yes, because it is a difficult decision to resign in a position you are already occupying and I’m sure he’s also enjoying. He should let go. There is a little confession there, an implied confession, to confess right before the entire nation that your mandate is tainted. Actually, he did not use those words but implied, that was the message of his speech.

Q: Do you think do you have allies in the senate?

Yes. I have natural allies. For example, Serge Osmeña, he is a member of my party and also my ninong. Chiz Escudero, we ran together in 2007. Pia Cayetano, a product of the UP College of Law and Alan Peter. Sonny Trillanes, I like his no-nonsense approach and this guy has no private stand, his public stand is his private stand. That is also what I want to do.

Yeah! Magkakasundo kami ni Koko, sigurado! 🙂

But we all know the Magdalo were dead meat without the media who refused to leave.

  36. chi chi

Hahahahaha!

Indeed, the media who refused to leave saved their balls. I know that Sen. Sonny and fellow Magdalos are grateful of their actions, respetado sila ng grupong ito. Kita at feel ko yan…. 🙂

kasama si revilla and lapid? ano ang contibution ng 2 high school grad na hindi man lang valedictorian sa discussion nila? meron silang intellectual participation? do they have neurons that will help alleviate the poor pinas

  38. Re #38.Ha!Ha! Ha!

Sa pagtatalak naming tatlo, the SAF stopped their attempt of handcuffing us. Iba na lang ang pinusasan nila.

  39. When we were filing the cases against the PNP and military officials for that incident, someone said it would have been more dramatic and made our case stronger if there was a video of us handcuffed.

Maybe, yung mukhang api and kawawa.

I said,”Hindi ako bagay sa ganun.”

  40. Ellen,
I didn’t want to say this before, but tapos na rin naman yun. I noticed in the news footages some familiar faces among the media/reporters which I’m pretty sure were not media personnel. Did you notice this also? One guy in particular hehehe 🙂

  41. Oh yes, ang daming government agents doon.

Sa amin naman, trabaho nila yun. We were there to cover. Knowing those things was part of our coverage. That’s why Naiinis kami when the government said that one of us gave Faeldon a press ID. Sila nga ang nagpanggap na media eh.
