Tongue-Twisted posted in earlier thread:
I just gave up watching the DOJ investigation after the “assistant” negotiator, Romeo Salvador, was interviewed. NCRPO’s Santiago is presently in the hot seat.
Salvador says there were 2 cellphones they were calling to get to Mendoza and one landline connected directly to the “ACP” (Advance Command Post?) Mendoza was also contacted via the driver’s cell, but the driver had escaped when the shooting began.
The police was complaining they were not able to talk to Mendoza because the cellphone was busy. He wouldn’t answer the landline. It was found out that he was busy talking to Rogas and Tulfo and when asked if Tulfo relayed the message about the 5-minute demand to release his brother, Salvador replied, “Andoon si Tulfo sa harap ko, nasa likod ako, may kausap siya sa cellphone nakaharap kami sa bus habang nasa Command Center, wala naman siyang sinabi tungkol doon.”
But that’s not the reason I stopped watching.
Salvador said that the other cellphone, which was provided to Mendoza by MPD, which they used to talk to him – listen to this – was mistakenly turned over by MPD to the visiting Hong Kong policemen as part of the victims’ personal belongings.
The phone carried a lot of info: timestamps which could provide exact data when, how many and how long the negotiators actually talked to him, including text messages and records of other people who may have talked with him there.
Wala na bang ilalabas na ibang katangahan iyang MPD? Ilabas na nila lahat ngayon! Pagod na kami sa kahihiyang ito.
From SaxnViolins posted in earlier thread:
Ito ang pinagmulan ng init ng ulo, and the eventual carnage.
Salvador heard Mendoza tell the other person on the line, supposedly Gonzalez, “Humihingi ka pa P150,000…Kung may mamamatay, kasalanan mo ito.” Mendoza also hurled several invectives.
Office of the Ombudsman na naman.
Guess what? He is a government official of high ranking. So he may only be investigated by his own office. As the Romans say, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Who guards the guardians?
Strike two yang office na yan. The letter of Merceditas with the usual lame promise of I will look into it personally, and now, the actual case worker, who may have been asking for a bribe earlier, not at that moment.
Punta punta pa kasi sa Ombudsgirl, puwede namang i-reinstate without her approval. True, it may be questioned as illegal, on the ground that her orders cannot be countermanded by the NAPOLCOM. But the legal challenge will be made in court. Meantime, the executive has the upperhand, because it can proceed until stopped by the courts. Nakalaya na sana ang mga hostages before any Ombudsgirl legal grandstanding.
Lim and the police were saying, but if we reinstate, it may set a bad precedent. The deceased Mendoza, however, provided them with the answer, which they did not pay attention to.
Salvador remembered Mendoza told him earlier in the day that “ibalik niyo ako sa serbisyo, bababa na ako dito [bus], alam kong may kaso na ako sa ginagawa kong ito.”
So, pawalang bisa ang admin case, at sampahan ng bagong kaso for mass kidnapping.
Better ask for a seminar from the Glue boys.
Magkano kaya ang bill sa Emerald? $20,000?
A reporter who was there at the scene said earlier that afternoon, Lim was at the Diamond Hotel meeting with somebody. He went to Emerald restaurant later.
Did I get it right? Isko Moreno did not know about the contents of the letter from the Ombudsgirl to Mendoza? That it was sealed?
Ang they expect the negotiator to succeed?
Mendoza was asking for reinstatement. And what he got was the usual run-around. A run-around while lives were at stake. She could have gone along and ordered a reinstatement.
“Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country..” hindi ba mas maganda. now that all or more where said about what happened..matuto na sana tayo…at gawin natin ang dapat nating gawin sa kabutihan ng bayan..let us no dwell on the past but let us move forward…kusa na sana magresign ang mga taong wala namang ginawa na tama..#1. si Mercedita Guttierez na Ombudsman, #2
is Romulo na Ambassador dito sa NY…Ate BAllsy can you now push him out sa pag upo niya? maawa ka naman sa kapatid mo..Aquino ang pangalan na pinoprotectahan mo, the legacy of your parents…ano ang itinulong mo? to retain Romulo? ano ba ang utang na loob mo kay Romulo…a deer friend? sabi mo hindi ka makikialam..but ano ang nangyari sa recommendation mo? maawa ka naman sa kapatid mo…pero more than anything else maawa ka sa bayan na sabi mo minamahal mo! are you going to be with your brother when he visits NY…pupunta ako sa lst Ave and 42nd St. if only to see your face…will I be able to say..”oh she is so sweet”?
corr on the above post: let us not dwell on the past…
nadisarmahan* niya yung kapatid…
What is the name of the motorcycle cop who was given the letter of reinstatement?
Since hindi umabot yung sulat kay Mendoza, where is it?
This is a comedy of errors. This is supposedly entertainment.
When the head of the SWAT assault team was asked what was the instruction of their commander before they made the assault, he replied, “Go.”
The question was re-phrased what did the commander say when they were ordered to assault. He answered: “1,2,3. Go!”
Oh, di ba comedy.
Re #12: Okay pa yan, Tongue. Very rich in material for a comedy skit.
Ito pa rin, as told by Rico E. Puno:
Nagpapatawa ang ating Presidente! Akala ni Rico Puno cute kaya kinukwento niya.
‘Meddling botched talks with hostage-taker’

“Invectives hurled
Around that time, the vice mayor had already informed the negotiating team that he was in touch with officials of the Office of the Ombudsman.
Mendoza took several calls. One of which was from Deputy Ombudsman Emilio Gonzalez III, supposedly the official handling Mendoza’s extortion case.
Salvador heard Mendoza tell the other person on the line, supposedly Gonzalez, “Humihingi ka pa P150,000…Kung may mamamatay, kasalanan mo ito.” Mendoza also hurled several invectives.
Salvador noticed Mendoza’s voice change when the line was passed to a “ma’am.” He assumed it was Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez, as per the account of Moreno.”
______
This is what they do at the Office of the Ombudsman! This is just another horror story when dealing with that office.
Save from the article I copy-pasted on the previous blog post, I haven’t read more on journalists blaming journalists re: the August 23 hostage incident. Perhaps I didn’t exhaustively googled for more. Nonetheless, I still guess that news on media sins is not worth to print, upload, or broadcast.
When to cap the lens and when to turn off the mike? Covering the news or making the news? Questions needed to be asked.
Media self-control is ideally perceived to avoid media excesses. I know the latter exist (just ask some journalists who were guilty of libel) but is there really media self-control here?
It’s good to ask Michael and Erwin. It’s good to ask the cameramen at Rizal Park on that fateful night. It’s good to ask their bosses.
Maybe I’ll watch or hear the IIRC probe on Tuesday when members of the media will be on center stage.
Guess what? He is a government official of high ranking. So he may only be investigated by his own office. As the Romans say, Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Who guards the guardians? – snv
Olan, search in this blog Verafiles story on how media covered the hostage incident.
Sabay takbo.
Ha! Ha! Ha! mas magandang scenario yun.
Maganda yung post doon kay Reyna Elena.

To blog post, “Mr. President, Something In You Has To Die”
Noynoy’s presidency
Still in its infancy
The glaring idiocy
To me…is transparency
“Postscript: How the media covered the Grandstand carnage” (Date Published: August 27, 2010, by Tessa Jamandre) definitely is in defense of media.
While Rolando’s caper is an isolated incident, I’m pretty certain Michael and Erwin’s (and their bosses) bold interference to police matters is likewise atypical (of media as a whole). On the other hand, it is typical of cameramen to shoot (as I heard ABS-CBN’s videographers and photographers say on radio) but their bosses’ decision to air live the arrest of the hostage-taker’s brother is judgment call. Whether it’s a natural tendency among the TV network bosses depends on one’s point of view.
Were they commendable or condemnable?
A print journalist has this to say:
This excerpt from “As I See It : The blame game is in full blast” by Neal Cruz, columnist of Philippine Daily Inquirer appeared online on August 27, 2010.
“Off-label” use a boon to pain-and-itch product

ang katinko ba ay ang dating katialis?
Ikaw talaga, Baycas. Baka may maniwala dyan ha.
Rose, katinko is different from Katialis.
Come to think of it:
At the most critical time of the hostage-taking, the chair of the crisis committee, Manila Mayor Lim was at Emerald restaurant with the ground commander, eating in a room without a TV set for better monitoring of the ongoing crisis.
The vice-chairman, Ishko Moreno, was a few blocks away at a coffee chop in Holiday Inn Hotel, having coffee watching on TV the crisis turn into a tragedy.
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/nation/view/20100905-290541/Crisis-body-abandoned-crisis-Isko-Moreno-tells-probers
Buti pa sila sarap ng kain while the hostages deretsong 12 hours na gutom at takot bago pinatay! Sibakin lahat ang incompetent at masisiba!
From Ruben Chua:
Since Mayor Lim is both a former cop and a lawyer, magaling magpalusot.
i like tongue’s dream…
@ tongue;
have you seen any falling star lately?
Out of delikadesa eh dapat iinhibit niya ang kanyang sarili.
@ SNV #24: Just read it, superb writer indeed.
The problem with Noynoy (Aquino) and Jesse (Robredo) is that they were not quick to put the blame on Rodolfo (Magtibay) and Alfredo (Lim).* As I’ve mentioned before, COMMAND RESPONSIBILITY dictates that the accountability rests on whoever is in charge during the crisis.
Now, the rabid anti-P.Noys (and possibly, both street-smart and learned pro-P.Noys) are “shouting out” that by command responsibility the blame MUST reach Jesse and Noynoy.
—–
*Rodolfo on tactical police matters like Hostage Rescue Team and SWAT Team and Alfredo on local crisis management side especially the Response to Hostage-taker’s Demands and the Health Response Team such as ambulance with its complete equipment
addendum…
*Rodolfo on tactical police matters like Negotiation, Hostage Rescue Team and SWAT Team
Is Robredo also lying when he said he is out of the loop?
*** Memo shows Robredo’s control of PNP, fire bureau, jails ***
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/nation/view/20100905-290655/Memo-shows-Robredos-control-of-PNP-fire-bureau-jails
I think what it means is that he tried to assert his control over those bureaus under the DILG but apparently he didn’t succeed because President Aquino sided with Rico E. Puno.
Puno himself said that before the committee investigating the Aug. 23 hostage debacle that those bureaus were under him and that the President verbally told him to take charge of the PNP.
Bastos ka Baycas! hahaha!
