The Rotary Club of Manila yesterday awarded VERA Files a special citation for outstanding reporting under the New Media category.
“For its exhaustive investigative reports on the Assets and Liabilities of government officials, particularly of the President and the First Gentleman, highlighting the people’s right to information,” the citation read.
This is the first time that the 91-year old organization has included New media in its annual journalism awards.
RCM also gave two other special citation: a book award for Maritess Vitug for her book, “Shadow of Doubt, probing the Supreme Court”, and Mindanao Gold Daily for the regional newspaper award.
It’s the second award received by VERA Files, which started in March 2008. The first was the 2009 Jaime V. Ongpin Awards for Excellence in Journalism (JVOAEJ) for its investigative report “Quedancor swine program another fertilizer scam” written by Yvonne Chua and Luz Rimban, and contributor Diosa Labiste, who won top prize (Award of Distinction) and a Marshall McLuhan fellowship.
The winners for 2010 RCM Institutional Journalism awards:
*Philippine Daily Inquirer, newspaper of the year
*DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, radio station of the year
* ANC Network (ABS-CBN), television/news station of the year
*Ricky Carandang of ABS-CBN, broadcast journalist of the year.
RCM did not give awards for outstanding columnist and best investigative report this year.
The 2010 RCM Journalism award was chaired by former Press Secretary Rodolfo T. Reyes with vice-chair, Frank Evaristo.
The awarding ceremonies lead bby RCM President Benjamin S. Santos and Preisdent-elect Gert A. Gust was held at the Manila Polo Club in Makati.
I was the one assigned by VERA Files to receive the award and I said recognition by our work by a prestigious organization like RCM inspires us to do more accurate and well-written reports on current issues.
We also thank each and every one who continue to support VERA Files.
Congratulations!
Is Maritess Vitug’s book available now?
This is another big for Vera Files. Congratulations to all women and men of Vera Files for truthful reporting.
WOW! CONGRATULATIONS!
much deserved award indeed, keep up the good work ! Congratulations!
either Conrado de Quiros, Billy Esposo or Lito Banayo could have been outstanding columnist of the year.
Hooray!
ET may not like my batting for her but she should be the Outstanding Columnist of the Year…
Other columnists, Lito Banayo for instance, has a blog but it’s not like here @ET where we can blog on any posted subject. I haven’t seen Billy Esposo and Conrado de Quiros maintaining their own blog.
# i agree
This is maybe under the Jones bridge already, pero napapag-usapan lang.
Most of our well known and respected columnists have only one thing in common: Being charged of libel by Mike Arroyo. After that, mayroon nang gawan ng comparison. Sino sa kanila ang present during the Siege of Manila Pen, pinosasan and hauled like criminals? Sino sa kanila ang present during the series of hearing on cases vs the military men languishing in jail for years already because they aired their grievances against the Arroyo administration? Sino sa kanila na bukod sa kolum ay mayroon ding blog with photos of the personalities involved for us to react? Ang iba nating columnists are just typing their columns in the comfort of their homes or offices.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Ms. Rose, hard to find ang Shadow of a Doubt. Been to Fully Booked sa Makati, Trinoma and even Cebu, wala akong nakitang copy.

# 11.
So mahirap palang hanapin ang libro. Bakit, binili ba lahat, para hindi mabasa?
That was done in the 90s, when somebody published a book about the Cojuangco wealth; that it was purportedly the money of the Revolutionary Government, which Antonio Luna left to Ysidra Cojuangco.
Here is a link to google’s cached pages of a write-up of Antonio Luna and Ysidra Cojuangco’s love child.

When I asked the clerk, out of stock daw. That was the year that Danding was running, and Erap was his VP.
the three great musketeers of Phil journalism are Conrado de Quiroz, William Esposo and Lito Banayo.
No problemo, Joeseg.
Re Marites Vitug’s book. You may try Popular Book Store. National Book Store does not carry it. I think it has something to do with legal problems.
Galing naman!
Kunggratyuleysyon!

Okey, sige. It is not the person ang kanyang kinikilala kundi ang institusyon, subalit paano ba naging CJ si Coronation?
I would believe him if being the third co-equal branch og the government, the Supreme Court Chief Justice is voted by members and not appointed by any s(h)itting president.
Let the rule of law emanates from the people and not from those who are just taking advantage of their being in power.

I will pray for his recovery so he maybe able to stand trial sa lahat nilang kasalanan sa ating bansa…kailangan maparusahan din ang may kasalanan..that is justice not for us to just tiis…
rose,
#12: Shadow Of Doubt by Maritess Vitug is available at Fully Booked branches particularly at Serendra The Fort
