The battle cry of Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, Jr. during the election campaign was “Kung walang korap, walang mahirap.”
He promised to wage a campaign against corruption, which he said deprives the people of thousands and million of pesos a year which should have gone to education, health, and other social services
Gloria Arroyo is the epitome of corruption and deceit. Fertilizer scam, NBN ZTE, Road Users tax, the list is too long for this space.
Now that Aquino is the next president, courtesy of more than 14 million Filipinos who voted for him – the biggest mandate bestowed on presidential candidate since the restoration of democracy in 1986, everybody would be watching him how he would make good his promise to end poverty by curbing corruption.
Aquino’s initial moves indicate that he remains focused in fulfilling that pledge.
Aquino knows that the judiciary is crucial in his anti-corruption campaign. Senate investigations have given the public a picture of massive corruption emanating from the highest level of government and yet what happened to cases?. As the anti-graft crusading lawyer Frank Chavez lamented about the record of the Ombudsman, they are just given the Mona Lisa treatment: “They just lie there and they die there.”
In his talk with reporters last Thursday, Aquino said, “I am really committed to number one, setting up a mechanism where we have closure of everything. That’s why you find the question of Ombudsman so important. And then, judicial reform also will be the stick we will wield on everybody past and present and hopefully in the future.”
One of the core leaders, Lt (sg) Antonio Trillanes IV made a study of corruption in the Philippine Navy and tried to bring it to the attention of Malacañang.
Arroyo’s reaction was to order him arrested and paraded to the media. Pushed to the wall, the officers and soldiers, some 300 of them, made a stand at the Oakwood Premier Hotel starting the wee hours of July 27 demanding reforms in the military. No blood was shed in the 19-hour siege that ended with a supposedly gentleman’s agreement that only the core leaders would be charged in the military court and the rest, most especially the enlisted men, would simply return to barracks.
Not surprisingly, Gloria Arroyo reneged on the agreement and charged everybody. For many of the officers, they were charged with several violations of the Articles of War in the military court and coup d’etat in the civilian court.
So many things have happened since 2003. Some have succumbed to the intense pressure employed by the government, some have remained steadfast. There have been betrayals. While some friendships were strained, there were also some that were strengthened.
In 2007, Trillanes brought his case to the people and was elected senator. It was a slap in the face of Arroyo which she didn’t take lightly. Up to this day, Trillanes remains in detention.
In last Thursday’s talk with reporters, Aquino blurted out his desire to have the case of Trillanes reviewed because it is his understanding that what happened in Oakwood on July 27, 2003 does not constitute coup d’etat as defined in the Revised Penal Code.
Article 134-A of the Revised Penal Code states: “The crime of coup d’etat is a swift attack accompanied by violence, intimidation, threat, strategy or stealth, directed against duly constituted authorities of the Republic of the Philippines, or any military camp or installation, communications network, public utilities or other facilities needed for the exercise and continued possession of power, singly or simultaneously carried out anywhere in the Philippines by any person or persons, belonging to the military or police or holding any public office of employment with or without civilian support or participation for the purpose of seizing or diminishing state power.”
Aquino noted that a hotel is not among the places enumerated in the law as target for the act to be considered a coup. “ Ang issue po .Oakwood. So di dapat lumampas sa fiscal na mali ang kaso. Pero lumabas sa piskal umabot sa korte nakakulong ng pitong taon ang dalawa sa kasong yan.”
(Note: Aquino included Brig. Gen. Danny Lim, who was included in his senatorial ticket, in his concern. Lim was not part of Oakwood. Lim was charged with mutiny in 2006 as he was suspected of planning, with 27 other military officers, to withdraw support from Arroyo after the “Hello Garci” expose.
(On Nov. 29, 2007, together with Trillanes and other Magdalo officers, Lim walked out of the hearing on Oakwood at the Makati Regional Trial Court, where he was to be a witness, and marched to Manila Peninsula where they made another stand against Arroyo.)
Aquino said he is concerned about wrong interpretation of the law and believes the “travesty of justice” must be rectified.
A non-lawyer, Aquino is showing a high respect of the law. That’s a good start.

Amen. Like all of us here, we wanted each and every corrupt government officials have their day in court or, give them space in the slammers. I’m hopeful that Noynoy will do what he promised to do. After all, his father paid the ultimate price. But I am also expecting that – day 1 – he releases every single political prisoners. I can’t wait to see Trillanes and the rest out and be free.

Lt. Artemio Raymundo, the officer who was imprisoned for almost four years for sharing with other military personnel CDs on the life of Erap he got at the LRT distributed for free, has already been restored to active duty and is assigned at the Philippine Marines headquarters at Fort Bonifacio.
The military court dismissed charges of violations of Articles of War 96 (Conduct Unbecoming an Officer and Gentleman) ; 97 (Conduct Prejudicial to Good Order and Military Discipline).
He was found guilty of violations of Articles of War #64 (Disrespect Towards Superior Officer).Since the punishment for this offense is detention for a few months, the court said “time served”. Sobra-sobra pa nga.
Lt. Raymundo at first tried to contest the court’s decision but last month, he decided to drop the opposition so he can move on with his career without any pending case.

I, for one, would like to see how Noynoy would make his campaign promises go into fruition. He has (for me) the most viable way to get at the rogues that we would want to see justice served. I have gritted my teeth for so long at the shenanigans of the Arroyo regime and now find hope one Aquino is proclaimed president. I am quite realistic about the many hurdles (to put it in an understatement) he will encounter to make these push forward. But better than all what had been whitewashed before. This Koala bear issue was forthcoming…blame it on the stubborn-ness of COMELEC to refuse counter-checks…nun pa sinasabihan kasi! I’m just smirking now—mukhang may conspiracy na naman nga to sabotage. The Commander-in-Chief can nullify that decision, so that Lt. Raymundo’s record is restored to its pristine clear whiteness. That would also be a break from the past; a repudiation of the injustice of putting a man in prison and blemishing his career record for the petulant wish of a Salamander-in-Chief.
You want to right wrongs? Do it first where the President has unquestioned jurisdiction and authority – in the military.
Talk is cheap. Most of the time politicians say something and do otherwise. The best thing is not raise the bar of too much expectation; it hurts more if it doesn’t meet even halfway of what was expected.
Although Noynoy is considered just as trapo as the others,let’s just hope that he will be different kind of trapo if ever there is one.

Anybody can make statements like what they’re talking about in the video. How many days na ba ang hearing nang committee? In fact, even Teddy Locsin is not independent to be manning that committee given na asawa nya lost in the election.
What these three need to do (Jamby, Perlas, JC) is to present convincing evidence as to how the voted were rigged. Siguro naman me mga lawyers here who can discuss better than me kung pano ang rightful way to present evidence instead of chit-chat like what they’re doing in the video. I guess that’s called hearsay? Dunno.
For me? I’d be very interested to know the reasons for the differences in count. But I thought that was already resolved by Comelec based on their random manual audit na some votes that were not counted were the results of those ovals not “appreciated” very well. term nila yong word na yan, meaning hindi nabilugan ang hugis na itlog.

When the elections started, I thought Villar was a sure win, he had all the advantages one could ever want, a massive war chest, an impressive resume, a very strong campaign strategy almost bordering on behaviour modification, and all the connections…I was thinking only an act of God can change it…and people doing a leap of faith, betting on someone with nothing much but his parents’ legacy…
We’ve seen good things come to pass, lets pray that the release, dropping of all charges, and reinstatement of the incarcerated officers and soldiers will follow soon.

Yung slogan nya “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap” should also be asked of the farmers in Hacienda Luisita na sa tagal nila dun ay mahirap pa rin. I know that coruption is not the reason why alll of them in the hacienda are still mahirap up to this day.
Anyway, gusto rin naming makita kung kaya nyang gawin yung mga pangako nya to go after the corrupt officials in government. And now he has thumbed down a proposal by his kamaganak uncle Peping Cojuangco to legalize jueteng.
So far, so good. I can’t wait to see him sit as President so we can get rolling on the anti-corruption and justice for all mission.
While I didn’t vote for Noynoy (I didn’t for any) for some reasons… but this particular news gives me hope that he’s gonna promise what he preach during the campaign. Sana, tuloy-tuloy na ang pagbabago.

You have to look at different angles. Do not rely on what Comelec is telling you, only candidates who benefited from this massive fraud will believe them. Comelec never followed the prescribed rules and procedures to minimize cheating. It was not supposed to do the audit themselves, it should be an independent entity or corraborated by independent entity. So, the problems were just the ovals?
The wife of Congressman Locsin is trying to replace him in the district of Makati and allegedly lost. He is investigating not only the Congressional district of Makati but from the presidential race down to wherever it goes. He is doing a fine job, so far. Now, they can assign an independent audit for the district of Makati to make sure that Congressman Locsin did not file a false findings in that particular district.

I heard from the Eraptians that Erap ranked third in his country of San Juan. Kahit sinong hindi Eraptians mahihirapan paniwalaan ito dahil balwarte ni Erap ang San Juan. So yung ingay dyan sa automated garci, ang daming loopholes talaga nyan. Una, yung flash cards. basta na lamang ininstall dun sa mga PCOS machines ni di man laang na-check isa-isa ng mga representatives ng mga political parties. Pangalawa, yung PCOS machine mismo na di transparent yung lalagyan ng mga election ballots. Paano kung may mga laman na yun bago nagsimula yung botohan. so, the best dyan usisain yung Voters Record bawat presinto, tingnan kung ilan ang mga bumoto nung May 10 at i-compare sa election returns ng bawat presinto. May nabasa ako isang presinto 100% ang bumoto. Mahirap paniwalaan ito dahil clustered precint na ngayon, meaning, mas lumaki ang voting population bawat clustered precint. which is good news dahil nabawasan ng 2/3 ang mga required teachers para maging Board of Election Inspectors. Pero yung sabihin mong 100 percent yung bumuto sa isang mas malaking clustered precint, mahirap mangyari yun. Ano yun perfect attendance.
So sa canvassing dapat ma-identify yung mga presinto at mga lugar na medyo kaduda-duda yung outcome. Ako kahit sino maging presidente ok lang, pero dapat convincing yung pagka-panalo para respetuhin sya. ke malaki o maliit yung panalo dun sa pangalawa ok lang yan, dapat kapani-paniwala.

This is simple, no rocket science – just check how many Iglesia ni Christo voters are in San Juan? The machines have security features, the supplier needs to protect their name because they have a business to run (hindi lang sa Pilipinas). There are some irregularities, but are minor, isolated ones (precinct level), bottomline negligible…
We must accept the fact that most people have moved on, that some Eraptians although they adore him, voted for Noynoy because of other reasons that maybe personal to them.

Dapat lahat ng mga partido pumayag na i-examine din yung Election Returns at i-kumpara dun sa Voter turnout bawat presinto at yung actual number ng bumoto sa presintong yun based dun sa Voter’s Records.
While many are excited to see Noynoy launching his offensives against corruption and injustice, the road won’t be easy. Gloria has seen to that by filling up the judiciary and the Ombudsman with her rubber stamps.
This is where Citizen Power is needed. It continues to be necessary because Noynoy can’t do it by himself. He still needs the citizens behind him continuously putting pressure on those who will try to thwart his moves.
By this I mean citizens watching their respective Congressmen, Senators, the Judiciary and the Ombudsman… and raising hell when these people act against the public good.
I prefer to call this Citizens Power rather than People Power.
The latter is such an over-used word. Citizen Power rings more of involvement in many various ways… subtle and non-subtle. It is not just for those who march in the streets, it is also for those who watch, monitor, report and display their sentiments is various new media such as emails, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, town council meetings, etc.

The latest report from Maasin, Sarangani when the PCOS transmitted CoCs reported only nine votes with ER showing 616 actually voted. The PPCRV chairman of Basilan, Fr. Santiago Agoo, also reported that 20 PCOS machines that were not used because of a brownout showed receipts of transmission. These instances are proof of electronic fraud.
