And the bill ran to $1.5 million or about PhP80 million pesos–perhaps in the same or higher level of gargantuan expense that Mr. Esposo and his family have been putting up just to keep him alive–yes, alive with a borrowed kidney only to vent poisonous calumny to someone who had died so young from a dread ailment similar to his!
And now you and Mr. Esposo have the gall to quibble about the circumstances and price tag of Danny Villar’s confinement and eventual death at the FEU Hospital? Then, not satisfied with that, you make such a big issue of Danny Villar’s having been confined at FEU Hospital and make the claim that only the rich can afford to be confined there at that time. You want to to make it appear that his death is a big lie because, in your own estimation, the FEU hospital was at that time affordable only by the rich and hoity-toity like you.

I’m no fan of Manny Villar, Mrs. Monsod, and I don’t care if he wins or loses in the coming elections, but I find it unthinkable that an academic of your stature would stoop so low as to take issue with the death of his three-year-old brother from leukemia, a dread disease that inevitably drains the entire fortunes of families in ultimately fruitless medical efforts to cure the patient.
Didn’t he find it ‘unthinkable’ that it was the very candidate, himself, who had stooped so low as to take issue with the death of his very own three-year-old brother from leukemia and gave it the needed twist to appeal to voters?
In a modern hospital abroad with all the latest medical trappings, I watched that relative of mine lapse into a comma that lasted a few weeks until he finally turned black and blue and mercifully expired without ever waking up again.
Leukemia patients die of leukemia, not of poverty (as claimed by Mr. Villar).

As far as I can recall, Mr. Villar’s claim was that his brother died because they were poor. If his only claim was that they were poor when his brother died, wala naman sigurong papatol sa isyung ‘yan.
