Last Thursday, the family and friends of former Lt(sg) James Layug held a fundraising dinner for his candidacy for congressman for the second district of Taguig.
James, who is in detention at the ISAFP compound in Camp Aguinaldo, was allowed by the court to attend the dinner but his prison custodians refused to honor the court order.
We wish there were more people. But we had fun.
This was the video shown during the dinner:
Another Magdalo officer, former Marine Capt. Gary Alejano, who is running for mayor of Sipalay, Negros Occidental, is also holding a fundraising dinner at Planta Hotel in Bacolod on March 13. Those who are in Bacolod might be interested.
awesome music video! very convincing, so convincing i might try to file to be a bacolod resident. 🙂
go james layug! go magdalo!
I can understand why some voters would vote for them because soldiers stir up some images of knights-in-shining-armor fighting a dragon, to when my thinking cells are on, then my conclusion is this. It does not make sense to elect soldiers who have been sworn to uphold the Constitution who have demonstrated taking up arms to violate what they have sworn to do.
Fool me once is okay since when I wasn’t looking when these Oakwood guys raised their hands and made solemn pledge to uphold the Constitution. But fool me twice is nonsense (in my opinion).
I support James Layug’s candidacy wholeheartedly!

I suppose there’s a bit of that for some but certainly it is not the reason why I believe some men in uniform are worthy to be elected.
Personally, I’m one of those that didn’t go for the Magdalos hook line and sinker when they were proclaimed and adulated by many here in Ellenville (I still am not a fan of the Magdalo as a group). I took, or rather, bided my time and only recently did I believe that one or two in their ranks were worthy of my ‘vote.’ (I’m quite familiar with the military world — my family and in-laws have a long line of military service, and can be irritatingly critical and very scathing of the military more often than not.)
James Layug is one of them. His solid military — no nonsense, honest, background, i.e., navy seals — a most honourable fighting unit (which I’m familiar with), has led me to believe that he would make a far better member of Congress than many civilians the Filipino public are keen to vote for come election time.
And as a reminder: some of the greatest leaders the world knew in peace time were moulded by the military Any many of the world’s political scoundrels, including in RP were plucked from the civilian world.
Ellen, how about publishing the new video (which is on FB) on Layug in your blog?
Yes, Anna,I liked that one. That was also shown during the fundraising dinner.
I asked the one who produced it to post in You Tube. From there, I’ll pick it up. It’s easier that way. I don’t know how to copy direct from Facebook.
I find it a very good video… straightforward and smacks of honesty and integrity.
No shitting around the bush like most candidates who cannot boast of even a fraction of what this young man has gone through in the service of his country and received a very measly pay doing it.
Anne, it’s already in You Tube. I’ll post it here this weekend.
There are actually two new videos of James in You Tube. I’ll post it here on two consecutive weekends.
