If the surveys changed the standings of candidates a few weeks into the campaign, it will change a few more times for the next several weeks until polling day.
Aquino can do his campaign a favour if he will review who run the campaign behind the scene and bring in some fresh bodies either to change the direction of the campaign or to contribute some inputs. Even with the Maximum 45 days (sometimes shorter) campaign for our Federal Election, the ratings of standing of parties keep changing.
Opposition and New Democrats Leader Jack Layton announced to the nation that he was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer and it is good that High Profile personalities are upfront and frank with their health issues as this will make the Public aware that whatever form of illness, most are treatable with early detection.

All this pre-election stress caused by these damned surveys…nobody is winning yet, we have a long way to go and we have other candidates. Who really knows whats in the minds of our presidentiables? There is such a thing as redemption after all. Whoever the people will choose it doesn’t matter if its Noynoy or Villar or Erap or Gibo or Gordon, we have to respect the people’s mandate and work together with our new leaders, otherwise we are in danger of being perennial rebels, always “against something.”
…I believe that even Gloria’s perceived “boys” have minds of their own and will have a choice of how they will lead and how they intend to be remembered. These people have families, loved ones, parents, brothers, sisters, they have loved and been loved also, its not all dogged pursuit of blind ambition…they’re also human…and have the capacity to change for the better…
Biases aside, anyone of them can be a good leader. Anyway, politics is basically an interplay of people pushing their respective agendas, hopefully in their pursuit of these, something good will come out for the sake of the country and the people…

Actually, the belief that Magsaysay was walang alam is a fallacy; same is true with what Erap’s own supporters resentment of the elite’s so-called branding of Erap’s “non-education”. Nothing is farther from the truth. These men may not have the extensive academic ahievements, i.e., Ivy League education, local or foreign, that your ordinary presidentiables possess but they are in no way “walang alam.”
To me personally, a president or a prime minister’s qualifications rest on many factors but should be topped by an inseparable combination of professional — unequivocal ability to manage, lead, inspire, work hard, decide, choose, discipline, etc., and moral qualifications (not corrupt, has moral courage, etc). One alone cannot do, i.e., not either/or.
Now, with regard to Magsaysay: I believe he possessed the said combination. Besides, even if for the sake of argument, he was “walang alam” — and whether we appreciate (may even resent) it or not, the man was tutored by the Americans, had the entire American machinery behind him, definitely the man was not on his own. US money was poured on him — better than any education could obtain (FMF, FMS, etc, etc.), so he was not “alone” in the presidency. He could almost not “do anything wrong.” Of course, Magsaysay, the student learned fast, was hardworking, wasn’t asleep on the job which was probably why the teachers didn’t like it when he started to show independence and sadly died prematurely.
Erap wasn’t lucky enough in that as one who did not possess the required combination of professional and moral acumen for the presidency, he didn’t have the “guiding hands of the Americans” (on the contrary, they didn’t like him) that Magsaysay had (again, I refer to American tutelage because the premise is that these men were “walang alam”). Erap’s main defect, if we can call this defect in a land of the fiesta and the good time, is that he was lazy — and I mean lazy. In that, I believe he was short in the required combination I spoke of.
If Aquino can prove that he has the unequivocal combined professional and moral qualifications to be president (I described above), then he should be president.
Aquino must prove that he ticks all the boxes… unfortunately I don’t think he does, but fortunatel he is a presidentiable in Pinas. Anywhere else, he stands no chance.
IF i have to evaluate Noynoy’s capability to govern this nation, i only need to see how disorganized his ads are, and how incoherent he delivered his responses in every debate he chose to participate in.

The only difference is that after the election, Americans except for a few unite, support and rally behind the elected leader, while in the Philippines, the minute after the last voter drop his ballot in the ballot box, political game starts all over again.
Over there, politicking is a continuing cycle, always a work-in-progress and almost a commitment.
Just found out in The Inquirer that there are actually nine official candidates for president of the Philippines!
Yes, nine people will be vying for the position of chief executive of the country in a one round universal election in May this year.
Good grief! I honestly believe that in a one-round election pitting 9 people against each other, there is an extremely slim chance that the winning candidate will be elected by majority vote, i.e., 51% of the votes cast.
In the 1998 presidential elections, Joseph Estrada, king of the Philippine movies, whose supporters like to proclaim as the president that was overwhelmingly voted into office, received only a little over 39% of the votes cast or a total of 10,722,295 votes.
In other words, around 61% of the nation’s voters didn’t want Estrada to be their president.
Questions beg to be asked: What if this happens again? How can the winner of the election expect to seriously govern a fractured nation if 61% of the nation’s voters don’t want the winner for their president?
Answer to first question: You have a problem! Answer to second question: With great difficulty!
Philippines needs to seriously consider a 2-round election, i.e., one round for general voting to select 2 top scorers who will vie for the top position in a run off election.
The winner will have, at the very list, a sound majority political victory and can claim a moral mandate to govern this fractured nation.
