Police and military officials said Wednesday the total casualty list has breached the 57th mark, with the recovery of the remains of 10 more victims, three of them journalists.
A list pieced together by CenterLaw from interviews with victims’ families and information provided by local journalists associations show that among those confirmed dead or declared missing were at least 27 journalists. Ten of the journalists came from General Santos City, another 10 from Koronadal City, four from Tacurong City, two from Davao City, and one from Cotabato City. Other news reports, however, say up to 37 journalists were on that convoy.

By the way, my daughter who is in an English uni told me this morning that she was “quizzed” about this massacre in a lecture yesterday. Sadly, my daughter knows virtually next to nothing about Mindanao’s political history. According to her, the “student political party” to which she belongs in her uni has issued a communiqué to be published in the uni journal condemning the killings.

A whitewash of the massacre that is now being investigated by several government agencies loomed yesterday as the national police named a close political ally of President Arroyo as the prime suspect in the election-related mass murder of some 57 civilians, among whom are journalists and lawyers, as well as members of the Esmael Mangudadatu clan.
But even as the police pointed to Andal Ampatuan Jr., mayor of Datu Unsay, who is gunning for the governorship which is to be vacated by his father, Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr., the Department of Justice (DoJ) also yesterday implied that there is no evidence linking the Ampatuans to the massacre.
DoJ Chief Agnes Devanadera said they are still consolidating evidence but declined to point to the Ampatuan clan as being behind the killings.
“We saw a lot of evidence, including powder burns, meaning they (victims) were shot at close range. So far, we have not seen evidence of rape or beheading,” Devanadera said.

All major newspaper, radio ang tv stations should honor and give tribute to these journalists.
If you remember Ted Failon’s case, he and his in-laws were treated harshly and pushed into a police car handcuffed.

If it’s true that Teodoro is in Mindanao going about in the South’s killing fields, demanding that the killers be hunted down and punished, there is a chance that he might rise in popularity in the polls as he seems to be the only presidential candidate in the thick of things.

Anchored by the brave woman journalist Christiane Amanpour, she had as guests our very own Maria Ressa, top news honcho of ABS-CBN who was also formerly CNN’s expert on Al-Qaeda/Jemaah Islamiyah and another journalist from Somalia who operates a Somalian radio station out of Kenya due to fear for his life.
After overtaking Iraq as the most dangerous country for journalists, we are now put in the same league as Somalia, a failed state.

He flew from Manila to General Santos City supposedly to meet witnesses to the crime and tried to escort them to the capital. But the plan was aborted at the last minute due to security concerns.
Hah.. this guy is turning out to be a clown. And what business does he have interfering in the case..for heaven’s sake?! He’s no longer the DND Chief.
No need to mention that quick as a wink, he expelled the Ampatuans from the Palaka party trying to wash his hands off the case because he and his boss Gloria are partly to blame for this carnage.

In the video footage, the brothers kissed their mother before going out of the house, teodoro was there too and made “mano” to the mother before leaving the house.
The convoy of about 50 vehicles with AFP vehicles in front traveled the road to the kapitolyo and soldiers were lined up along the road.
Inside the Comelec office, the COC was filed with teodoro beside Mangudadatu and the usual fanfare in the filing of COC, Mangudadatu and Teodoro holding the COC on both sides and then Teodoro and Mangudadatu shaking hands in front of the camera.
On their way back, the convoy stopped at the houses of the ampatuans and momentarily vent their ires.
lest I will be misconstrued, I have nothing against Mangudadatu and I believe he deserves all the security measures given to him. I just posted this in relation to Phil’s comment about Teodoro.
Mr. Mangudadatu, hopefully, knows that Teodoro is GMA’s tuta and its GMA who coddled his enemies. I hope he can see through the events and determine if Teodoro is doing it out of utmost concern for him or for political/media mileage.

The Ampatuans and the Mangudadatus are Lakas-Kampi members. The Ampatuans will automatically be favored by GMA and Lakas-Kampi in the gubernatorial race(2010)and become its candidate (Ampatuan Jr.).
Since the Mangudadatus wanted to contest the governorship of Maguindanao, their option is to bolt Lakas-Kampi and join the Liberal party.There were backdoor negotiations between the Mangudadatus and the Liberal Party.
I am of the opinion that the COC that will be filed by Genalyn,the wife of Esmael Mangudadatu last November 23 had in it the Liberal Party as the nominating party.
Gibo saw an opportunity in the aftermath of the massacre and was quick on the draw. Lakas-Kampi expelled the Ampatuans and renegotiated with the Mangudadatus not to leave Lakas-Kampi and the rest is ____________.(Fill in the blank with history or publicity)
As far as the Administration of Justice is concern, the Country is already a failed State, long, long time ago. and if these trends continue, we can see the Future…and it is not late to put a stop to all these Madness and GMA may the start and end of it all.
Madam Chi’s “friend” Franklin Drilon confirmed, when interviewed by the ever beautiful Pia Hontiveros that Mangadadatu transferred to LP. Mangagadadatu, however, denied it in subsequent interview. Maybe the signals sent between Mangadadatu and LP were misread but I tend to believe Drilon. Mangadadatu’s body language during the interview belied his denial.
I just wished that there was no promise to Mangadadatu that his clan will be next warlord in Maguindanao if he and Teodoro will win. Otherwise, the cycle continues.
