In a press conference this morning at the Makati Shangrila, Manzano, 54, was presented by Teodoro and Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno, who had earlier withdrawn from his declared vice presidential bid.
Manzano said the qualities of Teodoro, who has been trailing behind other candidates in the surveys, that had appealed to him are “credibility, integrity,hardwork.”
“I believe that we can lead this country forward,” said Manzano, who is a Lakas-Kampi member. He was chairman of the Optical Media Board until a few months ago.
The announcement surprised many political observers who were expecting Manzano to take his oath as Liberal Party member so he could be in LP’s senatorial ticket.
Manzano has rated within the top 15 among the senatorial aspirants in a number of credible surveys.
Manzano said negotiations with Teodoro had been going on for the past two months with Puno who he described as “a very convincing” broker. He said he made his decision to team-up with Teodoro on their second meeting.
He said he hopes his team-up with Teodoro, a friend and fellow La Sallite, would “illuminate” the political contest.
Aware of his formidable opponents- LP’s Mar Roxas, PMP’s Jojo Binay and NPC’s Loren Legarda, Manzano said they are offering themselves as a team. “I would like to think that we will be a team to beat,” he said.
Formerly married to actress and now Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, Manzano is now romantically linked with broadcaster Pinky Webb.

Edu is just being realistic and practical.
If you will watch the video clips of the announcement and the photo ops that ensued, the Puno is very involved. A harbinger that presidency and vice presidency may go the way of the administration.
With the Puno around, expect the fruits.
Ms. Ellen, I did not know that Manzano was born in the USA. Under the Constitution, the President and the Vice President must be natural born citizen of the Philippines.
The citizenship issue previously resolved was for a local position and the Constitution does not impose such requirement for local government positions.
The other positions provided in the Constitutions with natural born citizenship requirement are the Senators, Congressman, Justices of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals and Sandiganbayan, the Commissioners of the Constitutional Commission and the Ombudsman.
Clearly, Manzano is disqualified to run as Vice President.

Lawyer Katrina Legarda said Edu is a natural born Filipino citizen. That was the decision of the Supreme Court when he won as vice mayor in Makati in 1998.
The case of Edu was already resolved by the Supreme Court. He was born in the U.S. to Filipino parents. Any person born to Filipino parents is considered natural-born Filipino citizen regardless of the birthplace.

What made him decide to throw away that chance and becomes Gibo’s VP which he has no chance of winning against Mar and Loren or even Binay? Hindi niya maitataas si Gibo, sya ang ibaba nito simply because they are Gloria’s bets (kahit pang-facade lang).
Kumbaga sa karera, talunan na sa lumang Dividendazo ni Binay si Edu. Ngayong national na ang labanan at dapat ay liyamado si Edu dahil artista nga, pero palagay ko di pa rin siya lalampas kay Jojo B.

Voters will tell if the charisma and popularity of Edu will work for him or the kiss of death of Gloria works against him.
