Gloria Arroyo appears to have turned truly insane as she counts the days to her exit on June 30. Is the declared policy of prolonging the nationwide state of emergency in the wake of the devastation of typhoon “Ondoy” her perverse way of exacting retribution on the people for hating and distrusting her?
A deliberate policy of prolonging an emergency does not make sense. After the initial declaration, national and local government units have been freed to release their calamity and contingency funds. Relief and rehabilitation work can now be bidded out without going through stringent requirements for the duration of the emergency. Assessment of damage and drawing up of appropriate rehabilitation programs can be done within 60 days, the duration of an emergency unless otherwise extended.
But all of 365 days and counting to get these things done? Truly it is the hopelessly incompetent who cannot the job fast enough. We have been saying for a long time that Gloria, for all her self-proclaimed expertise as a manager, is at core an incompetent. Many were dazzled in her early years by the image she projected of being a modernizing politician cum technocrat. We were among the few who saw through her posturing early on. And proven right later on.
And why a nationwide emergency when the devastation of Ondoy was limited to Metro Manila and neighboring provinces and that of Pepeng to Northern Luzon?
The suspicion is that Gloria wants a carte blanche over government spending not for a full year but only in the months leading to the May elections. She is suspected to be up to her old game of buying the results of the elections, this time in favor of the candidate who could assure that she, Mike and her children would be allowed to enjoy in peace all they had accumulated during nine years of unparalleled corruption. That candidate, many suspect, may not be Gilberto Teodoro.
This may not be the first time that self-survival trumps national interests, but the result likely would be worse than the destruction caused by Ondoy and Pepeng.
Businessmen have already warned of a likely slowdown in production, resulting in job losses and ultimately shortages of basic commodities covered by the emergency price freeze. Gloria ought to know the dangers posed by a prolonged price freeze. In the face of rising costs and fixed selling prices, a producer would rather scale down, if not totally stop, production instead of opening himself to losses.
Signs of rising cost of oil and raw materials are already emerging as the global economic makes a tentative recovery. A year-long price freeze under this condition will not only stall the country’s economic recovery. It will throw the country into a recession, with all the human suffering an economic contraction brings with it.
The suspicion is that Gloria wants a carte blanche over government spending not for a full year but only in the months leading to the May elections.

I have not committed my vote. I know that I do not trust Villar. Does that mean I will vote for Noynoy? The answer is I really don’t know.

Like all of my more significant decision-making sessions, I begin with trimming the field of choices through elimination. At this stage, following the same logic flow, I would have eliminated all of them.
The more that election day draws near, the more that the worse qualities of the aspirants are surfacing. I won’t be dismissing altogether the possibility of drafting my candidate from out of Manila Zoo.
One doesn’t need to be a political scientist to figure out what is playing in Gloria’s unstable mind. Every second, the sunset of her stolen presidency is giving her nightmares and she has to do something about it. If she is a good economist as she proclaimed herself to be, she knows that prolonging the state of emergency is not good for the country and so it follows that it is not good for the people. The problem is she can’t help or manage not even for a moment to show compassion and a good side of her being a Filipino human being. She can’t bring herself to sympathize with the suffering of the people and all she can think of is how to extricate herself and her family from their crimes after the expiration of her stolen mandate. Her option is now very limited. In a way she maybe banking on the extended state of emergency and try to sneak in to stay in power; and the not so secret adopting and dealing with some of the so-called opposition candidates.
Villar never burned or cut his bridges with Gloria. With all the scandals exposed against her and her immediate families his silence is deafening. Obviously he is one of where her cushion mat has been laid out.
And Noynoy, upon declaration, he set his eyes only on the Marcoses, and nary a word against the Arroyos. It is but normal that when a candidate accepts a nomination, he should outline his platforms on what he intends to do. And the only thing he said: “Ituloy ang laban, habulin ang mga Marcos!”
What a dumb and stupid thing to say, when in his face, corruptions and scandals is the everyday fare of the Arroyos. He should have trained his guns on them.

The problem is she can’t help or manage not even for a moment to show compassion and a good side of her being a Filipino human being.
I think this attitude of Gloria’s, as you describe it, boils down really to ineptitude. The woman is capable of absorbing theories — I suppose she’s got a good memory and with a bit of help from some clever assistants paid by Dad and Mom, enabled her to get hold of a PhD. But the ability to memorise and chew theories does not translate into great intellect nor into emotional intelligence as shown by her arrogance and her inability to see right from wrong.
That is why the woman has been thoroughly incapable of managing the nation’s affairs.
There is no doubt that Gloria posseses the trait of a street smart alec as shown by her constant reactive approach to problems complex, but I don’t believe she posseses the fine intellectual powers of a born leader.
Sure, she may be a hardworking girl with street smart cunning, but so is my maid, and that doesn’t make my maid a presidential material.
The difference however between my maid and Gloria is their level of emotional intelligence. My maid beats Gloria in that area by a wide margin.

i watched her once being interviewed one on one by a foreign correspondent (I forget na where) but she was blabbering whatever economic parlance she could muster. her eyes were really flickering and you can see from her body language that she was fibbing. her interviewer seems to be wanting to stand up and walk out but because it was on air, he could only make faces and squirm on his seat.
Gosh, I thought there were checks and balances placed…maski inutil na ang Congress or even Senate…anybody out there to shut out this woman’s and her cabals’ craziness?

I would not be surprised kung itong boobuwit na ito eh mananatiling nasa poder, either by further forcing herself against the will of the people or simply imposing her will on these so-so presidentiables.
