When Gloria Arroyo last week ordered Lakas and Kampi, her political parties to merge, her minions quickly added that charter change is dead in the water.

Just when her political adviser Gabby Claudio gathered leaders of Kampi and Lakas to work on that merger, the resolution of House Speaker Prospero Nograles to amend the Constitution’s economic provision passed the House committee on constitutional amendments.
Given the dominance of pork barrel-satisfied House members, Nograles resolution should have no problem in the plenary voting.
Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros warned the public of the bigger sinister agenda of the Nograles resolution. “We believe that the so-called economic reforms will be used as a Trojan horse to introduce amendments to the political provisions, specifically to lift term limits,” she said. “Under the approved resolution, nothing prevents the House majority from extending the term of GMA.”
The passage of Nograles’ resolution confirms Malacañang’s Cha-Cha timetable. Passage of the House resolution in March. Since it will bypass the Senate where it has no chance of being passed, it is expected that someone will question it before the Supreme Court.
No problem. Arroyo has enough minions in the Supreme Court to uphold the continuing travesty of the Constitution. The referendum is expected to be held in September. Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno has laid down the machinery in the local government to ensure that Arroyo and the whole cabal including him will continue to be in power as long as they want.

“None of those is true. I am still in the Philippines and have not been out of the country for quite a while. So please ignore that email and DON’T send the letter-writer any money should you been contacted by him/her again. Whoever is sending that email has apparently accessed our email directory as well, so everyone in that directory might receive that fraudulent letter.
“Also, we can no longer access our CECAP email address, so please be wary of any email bearing that address because it could not come from us. We will inform you of our new CECAP email address if we fail to recover and secure the original one.
“I am sorry if that email has caused you some inconvenience. I understand that such kind of scam has been going around for some time now, and it is unfortunate that CECAP has become one of its victims as well.”

Thanks for the warning on the Internet scam, but it is not something new. Long time ago,in fact, I received a similar solicitation from someone calling herself “Loi Estrada, the wife of the deposed president of the Philippines.” There was one also from Imelda Marcos as a matter of fact.
My sister got one recently from someone claiming to be an executive of a Japanese bank. I told my sister right then and there, it was fake even if the name sounded Japanese but not Japanese at all especially when it had a middle name. Gotcha! with that because people here do not use a middle name, not even the family name of the mother as Japanese women loses their family names when they get married unless the husband is adopted into the family of the wife.
This scam I am told originates from Nigeria, and done by an international crime syndicate that preys on innocent people on the Internet. They are also experts in faking credit cards, etc. worldwide. I’ve interpreted for a number of them in the police. Oftentimes, I decline because I cannot bear the smell of those Africans especially when they do not get to have a bath.
So far, the ones I’ve received do not ask for money to be deposited in a bank. It is the other way around. They ask for my bank account where they say some money would be deposited for my safekeeping. I never did, but I did report the scam to the police.
I wonder if the Pidals are engaged in similar scams perpetrated by the Nigerians who are into money laundering, etc.

In this corruption game among the big people, we Filipinos are but tiny “ants” who are trampled on. So we just step aside and be spectators, lest we be trampled on.
Will we ever be able to take back our capacity for outrage against corruption and evil? With elections virtually 15 months from now, it is hard to gauge. Most people I have talked to say they’d rather wait for the elections to vote out of office GMA’s gang and cohorts. Asked if they would join mass action to protest corruption and evil, they say – nothing will happen (wala naman mangyayari kahit mag-mass action) with any mass action. The Philippines would be part of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s itinerary when she visits Asia, a Malacañang official announced Sunday.
Deputy Presidential Spokesman Lorelei Fajardo said Clinton, the new US secretary of State, accepted President Arroyo’s invitation to visit the Philippines when they met in Washington, D.C. last week.
According to Fajardo, Mrs. Arroyo extended the invitation during their 30-minute meeting in the Treaty Room of the US State Department. That meeting capped the President’s unscheduled working visit to the US.
Clinton reportedly accepted the invitation and promised to check her schedule, Fajardo said. Clinton had earlier said she would visit Asia—specifically China, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia—for the first time as secretary of State, in the next two weeks.
