I plead “guilty” to not having paid attention to atrocities in the Gaza strip in the Middle East.
I know that our own problems here should not be an excuse to be oblivious to the inhumanities being perpetrated on other people in other parts of the world.. We should join hands in condemning lawlessness and injustice, wherever they are committed. They have no place in a civilized world.
Harry Roque, professor of Public International Law at the UP College of Law and at the Philippine Judicial Academy and chairman of the Center for International Law, enlightens us with the following commentary:
“It is unfortunate that the crisis at the Gaza strip has taken a back seat to two ongoing domestic issues: those of the Alabang Boys and the Pangandaman Valley Golf incident. While perhaps the distant location of Gaza and its lack of “soap opera’ appeal may largely be to blame for the lack of serious discussion on the Gaza issue, it is imperative that equal importance be accorded to Gaza since it involves important rule of law issues that are equally relevant to the Philippines, what with our armed conflicts against the New People’s Army and the MILF, as well as our unresolved territorial controversies that may also lead to further armed conflicts.
“Thus far, bulk of the reportage by Philippine media on the Gaza crisis has been on the plight of OFWs who continue to be stranded in the place of conflict. This is a sorry reflection of how Philippine foreign policy has been crafted of late: parochially reduced only to how events overseas may directly affect our overseas workers constituting the Diaspora. Not much has been said as to why there are mammoth rallies around the globe against this latest instance of Israeli adventurism. That is, that by unilaterally resorting to the use of force, Israel has again showed its defiance to International Law that prohibits the use of force and restrictively allowing the same only to circumstances constituting self-defense or when authorized by the Security Council of the United Nations. Imperfect as the UN may presently be, it has nonetheless been largely instrumental in preventing what the UN Charter describes as “scourges of war.” This prohibition on the use of force is in fact the most important rule stated in the UN Charter and one that has proven largely effective in preventing armed conflicts of the scale that ravaged humanity in the past two world wars.
“Why Israel has not opted to have the Hamas issue debated in the Security Council is open to speculation. The fact though is that if the missile attacks are indeed threats to international peace, the international community has already granted the Security Council primary jurisdiction to deal with these types of threats. For Israel and its ally, the US, to now insist on unilateral use of force is a blatant disregard of a cardinal rule recognized by all civilized states.
“Israel of course will claim that its recent offensive is but an exercise of self-defense. In fact, it has stated that it will only stop when and if Hamas stops launching missiles into Israeli territory. But the question is: Self-defense against whom?
“Hamas is a non-state party that Israel accuses of operating in the territory of its neighboring states. Without accusing either Palestine or Lebanon of aggression, it has waged wars against both these states solely on the ground that Hamas operatives are found in the territories of these two states. There is the further issue of proportionality. Assuming Israel may invoke self-defense against a non-state actor, has the force that it has utilized proportional to the rocket attacks launched against its territory. Surely, a complete dislocation of the civilian populations in Gaza belies proportionality.
“Meanwhile, the death toll as a result of the crisis continues to rise. Included in the victims are protected individuals under humanitarian law such as civilians, including women and children. What is the sense, for instance, of targeting even the 11 children and four wives of an alleged Hamas leader? Has there since developed a principle attributing criminal guilt solely by virtue of family relations? Likewise, what was the logic in targeting not one, but three UN-run schools?
“The fact that Israel has been targeting civilian homes is a breach of humanitarian law itself since the Geneva conventions prohibit combatants from targeting civilian infrastructures. And yes, the fact that Israel has been violating the binding norms of humanitarian law apparently with impunity is equally deplorable since these grave breaches weaken the rule-enforcing value of the law. Why should our own soldiers in the AFP, or the NPA and the MILF, desist from targeting civilians when the Israelis have seemingly gotten away with it?
“Ultimately the Gaza issue should be accorded equal importance as the Alabang Boys and the Valley Golf incident because it undermines the rule of law on the prohibition against the unilateral use of force and the non-derogable rule according protection to civilians and other non-combatants in times of armed conflicts. The Gaza issue could spell disaster to countries like the Philippines. For while Israel may have the confidence to engage in military adventurism and commit grave breaches of humanitarian law owing to its superior military strength, countries like the Philippines can only rely on other countries’ compliance with the rule of law against threats of these nature. Think of the Spratlys. Think of China. Think of Malaysia. Think of terrorists operating in Mindanao. This is why Filipinos should take the Gaza incident more seriously. Because unless the rule of law is observed, our tora-toras will simply be no match to our potential state adversaries’ military might.”
The Israel-Palestine problem was prophesied in the Bible; and has been going on for centuries. Israel being the First Nation of God was cursed by God when the Israelites turned away from Him. So, Israel has a long history of war and battles that never ends.
Who is to blame between the two would depend on which side you are. The US has consistently defended Israel for obvious reasons. The US business and economy are controlled by the Jews. Politicians continue to get support from the Jews. The US is also among the biggest suppliers of military weapons to Israel. And the US needs Israel to balance the Arab power in the region.
Assuming that Israel has the right to defend itself and the Hamas in Gaza were guilty of provocation. But, it doesn’t justify Israel’s attack on Gaza using planes and tanks. As of this writing, more than 800 Palestinians have been killed while only about 20 Israelis were killed. What a huge difference of casualties. And 80% of those killed in Gaza were civilians among them large number of children. Such bullying tactic by Israel seems to be copied from her mentor, Uncle Sam. Overkill. It’s like a heavyweight boxer against a lightweight. Worse, there are reports that Israel is now using chemicals (white powder).
The question of the above ongoing conflict was asked to Senator Hilary Clinton during the nomination at the Senate.
She did not give a straight answer; but made it clear that while the next Obama administration supports the Israel’s right to self defense, Obama and she are against the killings of innocent civilians. From this, we could expect a more fair Obama administration towards this Gaza conflict.
The problem with the conflict in Gaza is that when Israel is attacked by rockets or suicide bombers, whether by Hamas, Hezbollah, or probably some unnamed Islamic street gang, no one demonstrates the same anguish of similar magnitude as they now do in many parts of the world. A country that is constantly under threat of terrorism, whether from within or without, and its citizens living a continuous life of fear, has to defend itself at whatever cost to the enemy lest it disintegrates into an anarchist failed state that we now have in Somalia, DR Congo, and a few other West African Nations.
It would be hard to imagine rockets landing on our houses in Manila and we just leave everything to God or to fate. We should be happy our country is not one contiguous piece of land or else the Islamic fundamentalists from Malaysia, Indonesia, and our homegrown ragheads would by now be knocking on our doors with RPGs or their suicide bombers ready to collect from Allah his reward of 72 virgins be our seatmates in buses and trains. Should that happen, will we be waiting for the UN, now an organization that wants to distance itself from Israeli-US interests, to take all its sweet time debating while we die in our homes? No sir.
Sure, we have been preoccupied lately with the club-swingin’ couples Dela Paz and Pangandamans but in the same context as the Hamas-Israel affair, it is the same case where the instigators and initiators cried foul after being confronted by a superior force, want to be depicted as victims in the eyes of the whole world. But the opposite of that seems to be emerging.
Ditto the plight of the Alabang Boys’ prosecutors, who after ages of unabated corruption, are now complaining about unfair accusations and bad press. They are also playing the victim card. We, thus, may be preoccupied by less trivial matters but we may be right in witholding further action because after all, everything is fair in love and war.
I agree though that our official response should not be limited to mere repatriation of workers and subsequent banning of deployment.
But do we really expect more from an incompetent and corrupt government that is more involved in extending Gaga than getting involved in Gaza?
Do we believe our leaders will be more passionate for the events in the Gulf than their passion for Golf?

Needless to say, my fellow bloggers above are pro-Israel and anti-Hamas. It’s true that rockets are being shot from the Hamas militants but these are to the Southern Israel where there’s less population. On the other hand, Israel uses its superior military might to attack hospitals, civilian residences, worship places, government buildings, etc. This is not my opinion but from the reports of neutral media. Why can’t Israel just give the lands rightfully belong to the Palestinians? Why keep trespassing and occupying. Israel’s bullying tactic is due to the West’s protection and encouragement. Take away the West and Israel would be like a meek lamb banging its head on the wall.
Obama has been very cautious about Gaza. So far, he has not issued a specific comment about it. Last night, I caught an interview with him by NBC and he said that he should have studied deeply the issue of terrorism before making any promises on how he’d deal with it (on his campaign trails). Many civilians in Gaza are married to Hamas, and not because Hamas militants mix with civilians. When the US attacked Iraq, that was the same excuse given. They had to kill civilians because they were mixed with Saddam’s soldiers. You don’t question who mixes with who in a country that’s diversified. What if Iran attacks Israel on on the pretext that there are militants in Israel against Iranians? And what about if India attacks Pakistan on the pretext that the latter harbors terrorists? Or Russia attacks the US saying there are anti-Russians in the US? Same reason going on in Mindanao. The GIs are there to help the RP troops catch the Muslim terrorists.

In light of this revelation (which seems not to have hit the press yet), Israel’s invasion of Gaza is beginning to make sense — as in any war of attrition (make no mistake about it — this is what Israel’s war on Gaza is all about), one only needs to follow the “money trail” to obtain the truth on the whys and the wherefores of that war.
Many of us have been wondering what Israel hopes to achieve by committing atrocities in Gaza, that despite international condemnation, pressure and protests, she refuses to budge from her determination to cause the quasi extermination of a people. Well, the appalling parcels of truth seem to be falling in place: Follow the gas trail!
That’s what this war seems to be all about. But of course, we know that Israel would not give Gaza or that strip of Palestinian land the light of day if there was nothing in that strip of land for them. Follow the gas trail!
Btw, we must not forget that it was Israel that broke the ceasefire when IDF launched a raid into Gaza on Nov 4th killing a number of Hamas men. Hamas retaliated.

The reason why Israel appears to be the good boy and the Hamas the bad boy is due to the Western media’s portrayal. Gas trail…exactly! Why do you think there was a military confrontation in Georgia recently. It’s all about oil passage. Why do you think the US cannot get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and now planning to include Iran? It’s all about oil pipeline. Under Obama’s administration, we may see a better foreign policy…a policy that’s not too pro-West. But Obama would find it extremely hard to neutralize the oil cartel, the ultra-rightist. I feel sorry for Obama.

IDF retaliated only when Hamas militants were caught at the security fence of Israel trying to abduct it’s soldiers – this was an excuse for Hamas to fire over 300 rockets unto Israel. Six were killed in Gaza, none in Israel, so Arabs/Muslims and their symphatizers cried foul of “atrocities”, same scenario and same excuses.
A few days ago, five or six filipinos from Qatar were going back home to the Philippines – they were never paid by their Arab employers and mostly were abused. How often do we hear reports like these in the Middle East? Too often!
I’ve never heard of any Filipino who works in Israel who were abused, raped, their passports kept by their employers and unpaid. IF anyone here knows of someone, please post the link.
Hamas will never renounce violence towards Israel. It’s deep rooted hatred is like a black and white in America, will forever be there. Hamas lacks candor.
America’s interest in war torn Iraq, Israel and Mindanao is similar. Oil. Its oil reserves will be depleted in 8 years. It is the biggest importer of oil and consumes more than twice compared to China. Its top priority, get oil at all cost, by hook or by crook.
Collateral damage in Gaza at 25% is much lower than in Mindanao where civilian body count and property damage is disregarded. Israel uses precision bombing while in Mindanao, its either “bato-bato sa langit, matamaan huwag magagalit” or intentional terrorism. The only reason why there are more deaths in Gaza is the magnitude and degree of fighting and bomnbing is greater.
My suggestion to our OFW’s in Gaza who cannot evacuate, is to stay away from any Hamas military installations and any facilities or equipment that you know is supporting Hamas. Keep in mind that Israel is also avoiding being judged unfavorably by world opinion and they are trying to avoid collateral damage in as much as possible. You should keep yourself updated on where fighting activities are. Move to a place in Gaza where you think is safer. Hospitals and churches are safe. Store more food, water, basic medicines and first aid kits. Keep flashlights handy, cellphone/s charged and make sure your car is in good running condition. Transfer to another house if it is within 100 feet of any Hamas military camp or installation. Do not panic. Remember, you are not the enemy.

What is the difference between suicide bombers and killers of hamas and their like who kill and maim innocent civilians including children and babies and what Israel is doing in the Gaza? To me they are both the same. As a matter of fact hamas even calls for death to all non-believers that includes you and me. They even won’t tolerate RCs and Christian communities in their midst. The feud between Muslim and Jews as shown by the conflict in Gaza is an age old story. It wont end just as yet as one would like to annihilate the other. It does not help too that muslim countries encourages and supports hamas with war material and the US supports Israel. As to fighting for natural gas and oil deposits, I do not subscribe to it. As said this is an age old grudge. Should we Filipinos be concerned? Maybe, but let us confront first our own Philippine problems. Let the Gaza conflict resolve itself. Palestinians and Israelis sort out their issues and we Filipinos do the same. Ours is getting worse. We are losing fast our capacity for outrage against misdeeds as in rampant corruption in government and thwarting of the peoples will. So should Gaza concern us? I’d say the GMA problem concerns us more.

I feel sorry for the innocent civilians caught in these silly wars on both sides. I condemn both sides, the Israelis and the Hamas now backed by the terrorists in Lebanon that is why I am not joining any demonstration in Japan giving encouragement to Hamas, whom a lot of my Palestinian friends also consider to be terrorists until lately when Israel started its offensive against the people of Palestine as evidenced by their bombings even of innocent civilians whom they tell to leave their houses but are bombed and attacked by Israeli planes nevertheless when they ran to the streets of Gaza. In short, walang mapuntahan ang mga pobre! Kawawa naman talaga.
BE is right that these wars are prophesied not that the Israelis are really condemned by God, because as the Bible clearly states, they are still God’s chosen people who need to be pruned, etc. in the latter days (our time) to be worthy of being called as such, and counted among the blessed sons and daughters of Abraham, including the Moslems, who are descendants of the other son of Abraham by the Egyptian slave of Sarah.
These wars, however, are not the works of God above but by evil men who want to rule the world, for definitely no evil originates from God!!!

Iran is spoiling Israel and the West’s plan to control the region. That’s all to it. Without Iran to counter these conspirators, the Middle East would have gone to those countries with evil motive to control the region in order to control the oil.
That decree issued granting martyr status to anyone killed fighting the Israelis would also be good to our brother Muslims in the Philippines. A similar decree should be issued that anyone who dies killing the Evil Bitch be declared a martyr.

Palestine became “the occupied territory” from which Palestinians were ejected and Israeli settlements built for “settlers.” Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are full of refugee camps in which Palestinians driven off their lands by Israeli force have been living for decades.
Gaza is a concentration camp of 1.5 million Palestinians who were driven from their homes and villages and collected in the Gaza Ghetto.
Caterpillar Tractor makes a special bulldozer for Israel that is designed to knock down Palestinian homes and to uproot their orchards. In 2003 an American protester, Rachel Corrie, stood in front of one of these Caterpillars and was run over and crushed.
Nothing happened. The Israelis can kill whomever they want whenever they want.
They have been doing so for 60 years, and they show no sign of stopping.
Currently they are murdering women and children in the ghetto that they have created for Palestinians in Gaza. The entire world knows this. The Red Cross protests it. But the Israelis brazenly claim that they are killing “Hamas terrorists who are a threat to Israel’s existence.”
The American media knows that this is a lie, but does not say so.
Israel has been able to slowly exterminate a people for sixty years without provoking sufficient outrage to stop it.
The United States, “Christian America,” has been Israel’s greatest enabler in its long-term murder of the Palestinian people. Millions of “evangelical Christians” endorse Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestine.
The rest of the world condemns the Israeli military attack on the Gaza Ghetto. Last week the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution requiring a ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Israeli SS from Gaza.
The United States abstained.
While the rest of the world condemns Israel’s inhumanity, the US Congress–I should say the US Knesset–rushed to endorse the Israeli slaughter of the Palestinians in Gaza.
The US Senate endorsed Israel’s massacre of Palestinians with a vote of 100-0.
The US House of Representatives voted 430-5 to endorse Israel’s massacre of Palestinians.
The resolutions endorsed by 100% of the US Senate and 99% of the House were written by AIPAC, as were the speeches praising Israel for its inhumanity.
The US Congress was proud to show that it is Israel’s puppet even when it comes to murdering women and children.
The President of the United States was proud to block effective action by the UN Security Council by ordering the Secretary of State to abstain.
Be a Proud American. Swagger and strut. Pretend that you are not besmirched by the shame that your government has heaped upon you. Take refuge in your ignorance, fostered by 60 years of Israeli lies, that the murder of Palestinians and the theft of their lands is “Israel’s right of self-defense.”

Municipal government institutions must produce any electronically stored information the public has a right to see, even if it requires using their technical expertise to develop new software, the Ontario Court of Appeal has ruled.
In a 3-0 decision yesterday, the court ordered the Toronto Police Services Board to respond “immediately” to requests from Star reporter Jim Rankin for information stored in two electronic databases, documenting contacts between citizens and police.
Yesterday’s decision marks the first time the court has ruled on the scope of the public’s and the media’s right to access electronic records held by municipal government institutions through freedom of information requests, said Tony Wong, a lawyer representing the Star.
“This is an issue of substantial importance,” said Wendy Matheson, a lawyer representing the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, which intervened in the case.
“In today’s society, electronic recordkeeping is commonplace.”
Ann Cavoukian, Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner, hailed yesterday’s decision as a “landmark” ruling that says principles of openness and transparency apply to electronic as well as paper records in the government’s possession.
Rankin began seeking the information in 2003 to test a Toronto police claim that officers do not engage in racial profiling.
Police refused the request, saying it would be time-consuming and require the use of a special computer program to replace personal information, such as names, with numbers.
Darrel Smith, a lawyer representing police, argued since the information would have to be reformatted, the databases did not meet the definition of a publicly accessible “record” under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Act.
The appeal court disagreed.

Indulgence please, but let me again dig into my rusting memory of how we probably ended up where we are now.
Militant Islamism, or Islamic Terrorism as the Westerners call it, was born as early as the 11th century when the Persian al-Hashshasin, a group known to smoke the marijuana derivative hashish before executing their high-profile victims who opposed their choice of throne successors and those who threatened the existence of the followers of assassin leader Hassan.
The word “assassin” was derived from this group’s name whose list of victims include the most powerful Caliphs, Viziers, Emirs, and Sultans of the old Middle East and a few successful and failed attempts at European royalty during the time of the Crusades. Assassins usually attacked their victims in public to cultivate terror and rejected using distance weapons like spears and arrows which allowed the assassin to escape easily. On the other side, Saladin, who had several brushes with his own assassination by this group, was a descendant of a clan that was probably the first Islamic group to preach jihad against foreign occupation during the First Crusade, where Christian churches were captured and converted into mosques. From political assassins and church captors, they merged and developed into freedom fighters against foreign powers. The Israelites, being relatively new aliens to their land were, and still are, considered invaders.
Fast forward into the last two centuries, their ideologies remain intact, which is, anything that has to do with Christianity, Zionism, even Muslim countries that are “too close” to the Americans are considered traitors, thus “takfirs” are rendered the extreme punishment of death. Martyrs have been brainwashed using hardline religious fanaticism to carry out some of the tasks.
When you have Hamas, a terrorist group comprised of professionals (teachers, religious workers, doctors, engineer, etc) that has in its organizational charter the total destruction and elimination of Israel, how would you respond if you were an Israelite? Even Arafat blames them for sabotaging the Israel-Palestine peace talks in the mid 90’s by stepping up suicide bombings just before Israel’s elections which enabled the replacement of the peaceniks with hardliners Likud Party behind Netanyahu, brother of the Entebbe Airport Rescue hero. Netanyahu’s performance was really dismal he was just elected for 3 years. He now leads the opposition war freaks in the Knesset.
In contrast, Ariel Sharon, the peacemaker, has declared in 2004 Israel’s Unilateral Disengagement Plan to evict all Israeli citizens from 21 settlements in Gaza and 4 in North West Bank including demolition of all military structures and forcible evacuation should Israelis resist. They did just that and completed all these in two years. How’s that for goodwill and confidence building? From the outset, peace seemed to be flourishing in the last few years, relatively.
But here again comes Hamas, motivated by their total intolerance, nay, contempt for the Jews and other evil designs, still not contented with coexisting with Israel has, for the past 2 years, fortified its city with booby traps and dug tunnel networks taking advantage of the pullout.
The attacks on Israel were premeditated. They had planned to drag the war right into the city of about half a million residents. Why would you booby-trap your city and risk the lives of your children at a time that your enemy is pulling out and appeared serious with its peace efforts? There is no other explanation, they will use civilian shields for their strategic positions and push the tired Ariel Sharon into a full-blown urban war which they jumpstarted by firing Qassam rockets from Gaza City southward into Israel territory where civilians live. They are also releasing Grad Missiles targeting civilan Jewish villages.
Hamas leader Zahar(?) was shown on TV last week saying their brothers would be killing Jewish children anywhere in the world! Such inhuman behavior does not merit my sympathy or compassion, surely not my support.
The reaction of Israel’s side maybe harsh but at this time, it seems to be the only way to handle it once and for all, and not treat this incident with kid-gloves or else Hamas, Hezbollah, or whomever, would surely be provoking Israel in a matter of months. Or weeks.
We will not see justice for the death of the thousands I enumerated earlier. Certainly not for my three friends. Nor is there an end in sight.
This war they are waging is a war against Christianity, our religion, our values, our children, and our children’s children. Not just oil, territory, and other material things. It just happened that it is Israel that has to fight our war for us. Yeah, we can’t engage our raghead employers and our masters because we’re too damn scared.

The only analyses that can be drawn here is that the stupid Hamas and their dumb followers actually believe that by mere firing into the air of their rockets, Allah will guide these into Israeli homes. Everything they do is for Allah and whatever happens is the will of Allah. Gimme a break.

These are not warriors, they are bungling amateurs whose best defense is being surrounded by women and children when cornered. They launch attacks from schools, mosques, hospitals, and tenements dense with old people, women and schoolchildren making it very, very difficult for Jews to strike back immediately. But when they do, civilian deaths are inevitable.
Arafat has agreed to the UN Security Council Resolution 242 which recognizes Israel’s right to exist in peace and security. But Hamas evicted Arafat and his Fatah by force all those years of talking peace down the drain in an instant.

In case you still don’t get it by now, I said in the long comment that Israel already pulled out of Gaza and North West Bank and that was completed 2 years ago. Immediately thereafter Hamas resumed firing rockets which pushed the Jews into blockading the supply lines thinking it was a less violent way of isolating Hamas from its financiers and arms vendors. Did it deter Hamas? No.
Israel did give peace a chance. Now if they continue to be terrorized, and react the way they did to stop it, its because there are no remaining alternatives. Not all Hamas use the civilians as cover or hostages. Many Hamas married the locals. They’re part of the families. Assuming that the Hamas mix with the civilians, why would the Israeli soldiers still fire at them? This reminds me of one massacre incident in Korea during the Korean War when the GIs shot a group of civilians simply because they suspected a North Korean agent to be in the group.
Israel and Palestinians share the same small corner in that part of the world and should be living in peace together but unless they can live in peace together, they will be fighting forever. Israel has done her part by giving up Gaza but the Palestinians wanted the whole pie. Hamas provoked Israel and the operation of the later is not only justified but long overdue. There’s no denying that the situation is appalling, but in war collateral damage is a part of the equation and cannot be avoided, especially if the way the Hamas conducted their actions are considered. They aimed their rockets at civilians on the other side while they positioned and established themselves among citizens using them as human shields putting them in extreme danger in case of Israelis attack. Israelis always go into great lengths to advise civilians at the other side by dropping leaflets of an impending attack to leave the target area of the operation.
Israel is not interested in re-occupying Gaza. Its main goal is to eliminate the threat of being a rocket target by the Hamas. The missiles used have been upgraded from the previous. What if the Hamas acquire more sophisticated missiles that can reach the main cities like Tel Aviv? Life could be hard and impossible for the Israelis. So they have to act before it gets to that point.
Hamas is not only the party who is at war with Israel. How can they procure thousands of rockets, arms and ammunitions without the financial backing of other countries? The Arab and Muslim worlds really have no desire to establish an independent state for the Palestinians. Their interest is for a stateless Jews, to entirely erase from the map of the world the state of Israel. This is a no secret aim of Syria and Iran, the financiers and paymasters of the Hamas.
This conflict in this part of the world, Israel against its pro-Muslim neighbors is maybe the sign of the coming end-times. I agree with Tounge that Israelis should also defend themselves. But we should read and analyze not only history but also what is already written in the Bible. We better prepare also our souls, in case this conflict is really the start of the end. I’m a Christian and not a Muslim. My observation is that the Muslims are so much persecuted. We blame them for their works of converting people to Islam; but the same is true for Christians trying to evangelize the world. It’s not exactly correct that Israel is not interested in re-occupying Gaza. If you have read AdeBrux’s post, Gaza is sitting on gas…look at the gas trail. Israel believes they are the chosen people; so they have the biblical right to rule the world. Luzviminda was correct in mentioning the biblical prophecy. The Bible says that in the last days, there will be wars and rumors of wars. The Second Advent of Christ is indeed very near.
And do you believe in Apostasy? In the Christian era, Israel is no longer God’s nation. When Jesus Christ lived on the earth He organized His church and called apostles to lead and teach the people. Christ gave His apostles the authority to act in His name, to perform baptisms, to heal the sick, and to proclaim His gospel. After Christ’s death, resurrection, and ascension to heaven, His apostles continued to teach His doctrine and direct His Church by receiving revelation from Christ. After His apostles were killed, people began to change His teachings, and although some truth remained, there was a general falling away from the truth, called the apostasy, and Christ’s church was taken from the earth.
I have a feeling this war in Gaza was made to order by the idiot still in occupancy in the White House till Tuesday next week even to mess up the Obama government before it starts. Kawawang Obama. At least, over here in the land of the fluctuating yen, a lot of us still manage to survive. I’m actually learning now how to plant my own vegetables, etc. and to distinguish the edible grass and wild plants from the non-edible ones just in case we find ourselves trapped in these wars and live in the mountains and woods to hide and survive.
Just trying to stay alive as a matter of fact, and still be grateful to the Lord above for taking care of me and my family.

The case involves John Aselford, who was driving home with friends in his pickup truck in July 2003 when he was pulled over by police in Bells Corners, near Ottawa.
The Crown argued police were justified in stopping Aselford and searching his truck for “safety” reasons after discovering several spring-powered toy Airsoft guns inside.
During the search, officers found bags containing nearly 300 grams of marijuana. Aselford was acquitted of drug charges in 2007 by a judge who didn’t believe Const. Shelley Pender’s claim that, at the precise moment she pulled the guns forward to inspect them, a bag of drugs fell to the floor.
On appeal, federal prosecutors Rod Sonley and Rosemarie Fincham argued that a Supreme Court decision two years ago involving a gun call at a Brampton strip club confirmed police can search cars and their occupants for weapons if public safety is at risk.

How to solve the problem is a one million question. If it could be solved, it would have been done long ago. For whatever motive each side has, we cannot erase the fact that there are foreign countries behind these two warring groups just like what happened and are happenings to other parts of the world.

The whole world is horrified by the murderous Israeli assault against the suffering people of Gaza. It’s good that Jewish people of conscience are disassociating themselves from the Gaza aggression. But it’s not enough. This atrocity is only the latest, and it’s no aberration. It reflects the program of the Israeli settler state—which is based on the theft of Palestine, the ouster and suppression of the Palestinian people, and the racist ideology of Zionism—and of its primary sponsor, the Pentagon and U.S. business establishment.
It’s not enough to oppose the bombing. It’s not enough to demand an end to the 41-year occupation of Gaza and the West Bank. We stand in complete and unconditional support for the self-determination of the Palestinian people. This includes the right to return to Palestine, from the river to the sea, and the right to democratically determine the form and the future of the Palestinian state.
Nothing less will undo the historic crime of al Nakba—the 1948 catastrophe of the establishment of the state of Israel based on the ouster of the Palestinian people from their homeland, oppression and inequality.
That crime betrayed the whole history of the Jewish people. From helping topple the czar in Russia and build the unions in New York, to resisting pogroms and fighting to the last breath in the Warsaw Ghetto, opposition to persecution, oppression and racism was central to the Jewish heritage.

As to the Israelis instigating this war to stop the Palestinian threat, I don’t buy it especially when I think of the Palestinians being refugees in their own land. I don’t think it was part of the deal God made with Israel or Abraham.

Let’s say 300 rockets landed on houses with an average of two children and husband/wife Israelis per household were all killed. That’s 600 children and 600 adult civilians. You cannot debate and say “well, there’s no casualties in reality” so no harm done. Such inference in this situation won’t fly.

If the 6 million or so Jews that the Nazis murdered during World War II resisted like the defenders of Masada, the Nazis might have reconsidered and abandoned the Jewish genocide.
During the Nazi Holocaust in Europe, there was only one attempt by the Jews to put up a fight. Other than that, they went to their death like sheep meekly marching to the slaughter house.

That’s the problem when you debate with people whose memories are shorter than four weeks. And those who try their chances by pulling up arguments fished from Google and forget to use simple common sense.
Is anyone here foolish enough to believe that Israel (of for that matter, any other country) can finish a war by hitting pure combatants only? Can anyone here supply weapons that can single out a soldier from a civilian crowd? Why were such weapons as tanks, cannons, mortars, rockets, and missiles invented? Because nothing in war is ever accurate. And it is complicated further because one faction choose to hide behind its civilians while launching missiles shot on a prayer. It does not help that rockets and missiles are fired deliberately from civilian buildings knowing fully well that enemy sattelites are marking them as retaliatory targets.
The US finished Pacific-side World War II by dropping two ATOMIC BOMBS on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. It killed millions, for chrissakes! The number of combatants then was negligible. 95% were innocent civilians. Hordes of people die of cancer in those cities to this day.
But no-fuckin-body protested! The Americans were hailed as heroes, the Pinoys were part of the revelry. And guess what, the Japanese are now America’s BFF.
In Gaza, at the worst, only 50% of those killed were Hamas, the rest were family and many innocent victims, too.
Now why are Filipinos suddenly so concerned about the Palestinian civilian victims? Aha! Because we did not experience Palestinian violence at all, unlike that which the Japanese dealt our parents and grannies in the Forties.
So now Israel’s immediate neighbor is governed by a terrorist government whose charter includes elimination of every Jew in the planet. The Palestinians voted them to office, this is their conscious decision to be governed by leaders who would not recognize any peace effort by the other side and continue to kill Jewish people at all cost until they are all dead and gone.
Israel was stupid in thinking that pulling out of Gaza would plant the seeds of peace. Instead, rockets and mortars rained in Southern Israel immediately afterwards and for 18 months, Hamas booby-trapped the City and dug tunnels crisscrossing Rafah for smuggglers of weapons coming from Egypt which all landed on Israel’s CIVILIAN settlements. Friggin Palestinians were hungry and needed medicines but look what their officials were wasting their money on! Rockets, mortars and missiles!

Would the Israel government allow its citizens to continually live this way? Would you allow luck to dictate your fate, if you were an Israelite?

While mainstream news organizations ignored the horrifying image, Jet magazinepublished an unedited photo of Till’s face taken while he lay in his coffin. Shaila Dewan points out that “[m]utilated is the word most often used to describe the face of Emmett Till after his body was hauled out of the Tallahatchie River in Mississippi. Inhuman is more like it: melted, bloated, missing an eye, swollen so large that its patch of wiry hair looks like that of a balding old man, not a handsome, brazen 14-year-old boy.”

The streets of Gaza looked like killing fields in the midst of the worse stage. Israel is arrogantly ignoring the Security Council’s resolution calling for a cease-fire and is shelling the UN compound in Gaza, as if to show its real feeling toward that institution. Emergency supplies intended for Gaza residents are going up in flames in the burning warehouses. Thick black smoke is rising from the burning flour sacks and the fuel reserves near them, covering the streets.
In the streets, people are running back and forth in panic, holding children and suitcases in their hands, helpless as the shells fall around them. Nobody in the diplomatic corridors is in any hurry to help those unfortunates who have nowhere to run.

Doon din sa rally na iyon, sa isang grupo ng LFS:
“Syet, bakit dito tayo mag-rarally, hindi ba puwede sa Israel Embassy?” tanong ni Totoy Pulpol.
“Dito na lang, ano naman ang isisigaw natin doon, e puro US itong ibinigay sa ating banner?” sagot naman ni Tililing.
“Kahit na ano isigaw pwede na rin diba? Dito nga Tagalog ang sigaw natin pati placard Tagalog, palagay mo ba iintindihin naman kaya tayo ng mga nasa Embassy?” tanong uli ni Totoy Pulpol.
“Oo nga ano, pero di bale na. Sayang din yung allowance, pang-load din ng cellphone”, ‘ani Tililing.
Suko na si Totoy, “Ayoko na, uuwi na ako. Tangina, ang tagal kong binuno yung Nursing, ngayon nagrereview na ako ng CGFNS, tapos ibabagsak ko ang Tate, bomalabs, repapips! Ano’ng gagawin ko dito sa Pinas, habambuhay na pasigaw-sigaw sa kalye? Ba-bye! Kung hindi kayo nakialam nung 2001 baka hindi ko na kailangang magpaalipin sa mga Imperiyalista, gets nyo?”

Tongue and Tilamsik on Israel-Palestine conflict. Even though I’ve made my position clear that Israel was the culprit, the above posts of Tongue have balanced my views…but just a bit.
For no matter what reason and excuse Israel gives, there’s no justification to attack civilians in Gaza. AdeBrux’s version of gas deposit about Gaza would be a more logical reason why Israel wanted to occupy the area. Of course with the backing of the West that graves for gas and oil during this time of global crisis.
I can’t help but to agree with Tilamsik that it’s all the works of Uncle Sam who for many times and decades used pawns to achieve what she wanted. The Vietnam War, Korea War, War with Japan, Africa, Middle East, Tibet…name all the wars and conflicts and you have Uncle Sam’s name printed all over. Americans are nice people. It’s the US foreign policy that sucks. Perhaps with the new Obama Administration, things would be a little different. America may be able to regain the trust and respect of the world. But…it’s MAYBE.

It could be just fireworks and the guys were celebrating something. But anyway, just because three Palestinians fired rockets from a school building, It was okay for Israel to destroy the school building knowing there were school children inside. And by the way, rockets could only reach that far mostly on unpopulated southern Israel. On the other hand, Israel jets flew over Gaza skies and just dropped the bombs. Which has better target and was causing more damages to the people?

Who says Sderot or Negev is unpopulated? Where do you get your “facts”? In fact, Negev is home to Bedouins, Israeli citizens but Muslims. If you check with Google Earth, you will find that Sderot is a commercial-residential area. Hamas are just so damn backward, their rockets do not have guidance systems they do not hit the right spot.
Further, the way you describe dropping of bombs is like the way they used to in “ancient” WWII. Like the old movies where large Japanese planes continually drop hundreds of bombs? Nah.
Israel was using F16 Sufa and F15 Ra’am fighter planes armed with advanced homemade avionics and weapon systems (I believe, mostly ASRASM or AMRASM or Maverick type fire-and-forget Rockets) NOT BOMBER planes, in order to achieve pinpoint accuracy and minimize civilian damage. The fact that many civilians still died is proof that civilians WERE USED AS SHIELDS IN THE TARGET AREAS!

It didn’t fly, because Saudi rejected it immediately. They need their dollars today more than ever. Iran can afford to say that because the west doesn’t buy Iran oil anyway. That is money influence. The oil producing states are now ganging up on Israel and the US. And oil will be their weapon. I hope that instead of spending hundreds of billions in a non-productive space program, Barack Obama redirects the budget on alternative energy research – more efficient batteries, frictionless motors and affordable solar cells. Leave the moon to the Indians and Chinese and concentrate on the sun!

This is the myth of special relations. For so many years we have been acting as if we were special favorites of America. we feel especially privileged because we have “special relations” with America and America has a special place for us in her heart.

Later developments suggest that this was not so, that America had ambitions to, in Asia, still has them, and that the Philippines was conquered by her to serve her own interests, certainly not those of our country. Similarly, America’s attitude towards Philippine independence followed the dictates of her own self-interest. her recognition of our independence became possible only as a result of the confluence of forces in America and these included the dairy industries, the sugar interests, American labor, etc., which wanted to deprive us of our preferred position in the American market because we were competing with their own interests.
This is why Nelson Mandela, the statesman of South Africa, was so right when he said the United States, under George W. Bush, is the real threat to the peace and security of the world. He tells us why: it is primarily because of the oil interests of the U.S.. Iraq has the second biggest oil reserves in the world, and American oil companies are itching to get in once Saddam is ousted from power.
