Dati kung gusto mong rekomendasyon sa presidente, hahanap ka ng padrino na pulitiko. Ngayon, ang mag magaling pala na padrino para makakuha ng pabor kay Arroyo ay obispo.
Kung kilala nyo sina Arcbishop Eduardo Talamayan ng Tuguegarao at Juan de Dios Pueblos ang Butuan, doon kayo lumapit at mukhang malakas sila kay Arroyo.
Si Talamayan pala ang padrino ni Leonardo Leonida, dating Malabon Regional Trial Court judge, para makuha ang pwesto na commissioner sa Commission on Elections.
Si Leonida ay isa sa dalawang bagong Comelec commissioners.Ang isa pa ay si Lucenito Tagle Hindi masyado kilala ang dalawa kaya medyo nagtataka ang marami paano sila nadiskubre ni Arroyo.
Sa isang artikulo sa Newsbreak magazine sinabi ni Leonida na si Talamayan ang isa sa nagrekomenda sa kanya.
Nababahala ito dahil si Talamayan ay isa sa mga tagapagtanggol ni Arroyo kapag siya ay binabatikos. Ito yata siya ang nagsabi na lahat naman na kandidato ay nanadadaya kapag eleksyon kaya ano naman ang masama doon sa pandarayang ginawa ni Arroyo noong 2004?
Noong may balita na magbigayan ng “grasya” sa Malacañang, isa yan si Talamayan ang nagsabi na walang namang masama doon.
Si Butuan Archbishop Juan de Dios Pueblos naman ang nilapitan ni Edward Go, ang may-ari ng Sulpicio Lines, para maki-usap sa Malacañang na payagan ng magbiyahe ulit ang kanilang mga barko kahit na hindi pa tapos ang imbestigasyon sa nangyari sa isa nilang barko “Ang MV Princess of Stars” na tumaob malapit sa Sibuyan Island sa Romblon. Sobra 800 ang pasahero ng barko at mga 700 pa ang nasa loob ng lumuybog na barko.
Isang araw pagkatapos lumubog ang barko dahil sa bagyong Frank, habang namamasyal sa Amerika si Aroryo, naglabas ng order ang Malacanang na itigil ng Sulpicio ang biyahe ng lahat nilang barko. Ang nangyari sa MV Princess of Stars ay pang-apat na barko na ng Sulpicio Lines na lumubog. Ang pinaka-grabe ay ang MV Doña Paz na may 4,000 na pasahero na binangga ng oil tanker nooong 1987.
Inamin ni Pueblos na pumunta siya sa Malacañang noong isang linggo dahil pianki-usapan siya ng pamilyang Go. Kapag hindi raw kasi makapag-biyahe ang kanolang mga barko, malulugi raw sila at marami ang mawalan ng trabaho.
Sabi ni Pueblos, “positive” naman daw ang reaksyon ng Malacañang sa kanyang paki-usap at yun na nga, pinayagan na ulit magbiyahe ang mga barko ng Sulpicio Lines.
Kaya sa susunod, alam nyo na kung kanino kayo lalapit kung may kailangan kayo sa Malacañang.
However, they still keep denying they lobby. From government officials to military and police officials, the Bishops push their favorites. That’s why many of these who get appointed are indebted to these Bishops. But in fairness to Catholic bishops, other religious groups also practice such padrino system. The only difference is that while other groups do it silently, these Bishops openly and shamelessly do it.
I am from Cagayan and I know for a fact that Archbishop Talamayan is very close to GMA. He criticizes politicos for cheating and yet he did not do anything about election cheating in the province. His parish Priests(PPCRV) were more critical in pointing out cheatings but he did not support them. He is being influenced by these politicos, in what way? only God knows.

“The 1935 Constitution of the Philippines served as the fundamental law of the land from 1935 to 1972. The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, prescribed and mandated clearly and succinctly, in its “Declaration of Principles and State Policies” and “Bill of Rights”, the principle of laws that shall govern the relationship between the Church and the State.
ARTICLE II DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES AND STATE POLICIES
Section 6 declares:
“The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable.”

Section 5 stipulates:

And these fundamental principles of governance have been with the Pilipino people all the way back to its first fight for independence against Spain. In its very first Constitution ratified and promulgated in 1899, it stated:
Title III: Religion – Article 5.
“The State recognizes the freedom and equality of all religions, as well as the separation of the Church and the State.”
The Constitution currently in effect was enacted in 1987, during the administration of President Corazon Aquino, and is popularly known as the “1987 Constitution”.
Philippine constitutional law experts recognize three other previous constitutions as having effectively governed the country —
1. the 1935 Commonwealth Constitution, (the American Constitution adopted and in effect thru 1972)
2. the 1973 Constitution, (a.k.a. the (“Muck U. Farcos” Martial Law Constitution),- valid thru 1986;

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo should have had the decency to turn down the request of the bishop on behalf of the Go family to operate again — not before having completed the investigations.
Authorising the Go ships to sail on the mere request of a bishop is sending the wrong signals to the rest of the nation: that justice is not money blind! Just extraordinarily gobsmacking!
