A month later, we still have expensive mid to high-end rice in abundance, but the NFA supply is fast dwindling, the gov’t has no choice but to import increasingly expensive Thai and Viet rice and sell at pre-crisis prices. This ensures the pResident Evil that food riots from the hungry masses will not happen.
But the middle class is bearing the brunt of the steadily increasing price of non-NFA rice. Gov’t says it will flood the markets with US rice at P25/kg. hoping to bring the rest of the market to a cheaper level. What if it does not? Pretty soon, Gloria will start to also subsidize the chaos-potent middle class lest she wants to invite mayhem to her constantly-threatened throne.
Import, import, import. Exhausting most of our available “surplus” budget for rice importation alone laps up almost all of the P70B extra income gov’t generated from the EVAT. Gloria’s P50B package for rice this year almost wiped it out.
Do we now see another round of tax increases because of this incompetent handling of our food secutiry programs? Will Gloria bury us further in debt for her own survival? Will she continue to play the “victim” role in all these futile attempts at hiding her incompetence and greed?

It had to take Karen Davila’s TV story to get Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap himself to order Cabanatuan NFA to buy the palay, not at P17 per kilo but only at P14.
With NFA buying another 500,000 metric tons of rice from abroad, there’s something wrong with NFA not buying all the palay harvest in Central Luzon.

“Independent” millers and traders are now not allowed to keep inventories even if it means they will have to lay-off employees during months that there are no harvests because they don’t have stocks to attend to.
