‘Scripted clemency’ playing out?
by Victor Reyes
Nine junior officers who have been meted prison terms by a Makati court for the 2003 Oakwood mutiny yesterday asked for forgiveness for their misdeeds as they said they are seeking “mercy” from President Arroyo.
The nine, led by Capt. Gerardo Gambala, faced the media in a press conference in Fort Bonifacio for the first time since the promulgation of their sentence last Tuesday.
Gambala said he and the eight other officers drafted the letter seeking pardon from Arroyo after the promulgation of their sentence. The letter is now with their lawyer.
Gambala and Capt. Milo Maestrecampo were sentenced to life imprisonment after Judge Oscar Pimentel found them guilty of coup d’état.
The seven others, with ranks of captain and lieutenant, were sentenced to six to 12 years in prison.
The nine last week changed their plea to guilty.
Twenty other officers and two enlisted personnel are undergoing trial.
After their change of plea to guilty, defense counsel Ernesto Francisco said the move was “part of the script” of the Arroyo administration to secure the conviction of former Navy lieutenant and now Sen. Antonio Trillanes and the rest who remain opposed to the administration.
AFP chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon has said a presidential pardon is possible for the nine. On Thursday, government prosecutors said they would not object if the nine would apply for pardon.
Gambala said they are not filing a motion for reconsideration.
“There is nothing I can do right now. I have accepted my verdict. The only thing I can do right now is to ask for mercy and grace from God and the authority. I am asking for mercy and I can give nothing in return but my purest intention,” he said.
If he is denied pardon, Gambala said, he would continue to “knock and ask for mercy and grace.”
“What I’ll do is I will apply for pardon, I will ask for pardon everyday, every week, every month, every year until I will be given my freedom. That is what I am asking for, that is my desire. I will be hypocrite if I will not tell you that,” he said.
Gambala said they thought of applying for the pardon even before they decided to change their plea before the civil court last April 1.
Gambala, Maestrecampo and six others – Captains Alvin Ebreo, Louis Somera, Albert Baloloy, and 1Lts. Cleo Donggas and Kristopher Bryan Yasay – faced the media with permission from the military leadership.
The ninth convict, Capt. John Andres, was brought to a hospital before the press conference because of vomiting.
The nine were part of a group dishonorably dismissed last year by a military court for conduct unbecoming an officer, but they remain members of the military because their discharge has yet to be approved by the President.
Only hope
Gambala turned misty-eyed after a member of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines asked him why they were afraid of further incarceration and why they are appealing for pardon when they already said they are accepting the court’s decision.
“I am doing that not because I want to evade the sentence. I am doing that because it’s one option that I can hold on to. Strip a man of everything but not his hope. It’s a hope that I can have and the only hope that I have right now. Please don’t take that away from me,” said Gambala, adding they have been in detention for already five years.
“I need to hold on to that not only for myself but also for my family. I have a son, a one-year-old son. He does not know what is happening to my life now but I would like to see him grow… I will bow, I will ask for your humility because that’s the last hope that I have. Please don’t take that away from me,” he added.
‘We are guilty’
Gambala read in the conference a statement he and the eight others signed.
The statement said while there are different interpretations of the Oakwood incident, “we know in our hearts that we are guilty.”
“We have trudged the wrong path when we crossed the boundary between professionalism and adventurism so we got lost along the way. But during the years we spent in detention, a sense of conviction dawned before each one of us in unique and wondrous ways, which led us to acknowledge that we undoubtedly made a mistake. Since then, we learned to live each day with a contrite heart,” the statement read.
The group said while it is their right to seek redress for their grievances, which was corruption in government, they should have done it within the framework of democratic institutions under the rule of law.
“And as long as these institutions are functional, it is our duty to strengthen them – not to destroy them through force, violence and unlawful means,” the statement said.
Bad example
“We apologize to the Filipino people. We humbly ask for your forgiveness for our act of rebellion, for setting a bad example to the future generations and for presenting ourselves as the only individuals who have the monopoly of idealism. While we have envisioned genuine reforms for our country, our actions at Oakwood brought political upheaval and further disunity. We have seen that instead of helping, we weakened the very country we dearly love,” they added.
“We have committed ourselves to the decision we have made, and we have nothing more to hold on to except to continually seek for mercy and grace from God and the authorities we have submitted ourselves to. So today, we earnestly ask for your prayers as we face another chapter in our lives,” they also said.
Nothing to offer
Gambala and Maestrecampo belied talks they entered into a deal with government in changing their plea. They said they had nothing to “We have nothing to place on the table for any arrangement and for any deal,” said Maestrecampo.
Maestrecampo said their group had alliances with political interest groups and the Left when it mounted the mutiny.
He refused to name names, saying he might not be able to identify all of them, “but we all know our political scenario, there is a grand political battle between the opposition and the administration.”
He also said they have not decided on whether to return to the service if pardoned. But the military has said convicts are not allowed in the service.
Gambala, asked for his message to the group of Trillanes who have not changed their plea, said Trillanes’ group has to respect their decision.
Trillanes’ group remains critical of government.
Gambala’s group split from Trillanes in December 2005 when it signed a manifesto supporting the Arroyo government and expressing regret over their action at Oakwood.
Puno favors pardon
Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno told a press briefing in Camp Crame that he is favor of a pardon for Gambala’s group.
“They have recognized their mistake and they have turned away from violent means of asking reforms. I think they can be constructive members of the society,” he said.
Puno also brushed aside fears that granting pardon to the nine officers would invite more adventurism.
“Their lives are in disarray. That doesn’t mean that going against the chain of command has no bad effect,” he said.
Inquirer story
Pathetic. Imagine begging for pardon from an illegitimate president. You ask the forgiveness of a thief and a liar who is hated by two-thirds of the Filipino people.
What kind of an officer are you?
I understand that you guys needed a closure of this for the sake of your family. Onli in da Philippines lang talaga, ika nga……
It’s all scripted from the very beginning similar to the SC Justices. If they think they could fool the people, they’re fucking wrong !
Gloria Arroyo has prostituted the rule law in the Philippines. There’s no honor in asking forgiveness to a thief, plunderer and number one violator of human rights.
Seeking pardon from an evil, that’s something from the ordinary.
Korap Gloria is Gambala and company’s president now.
According to script, the play is rolling!
Point is how can people there still tolerateate this stupidity, and being made stupid by the stupid people running their government like hell?
What is really horrendous about this is that Filipinos are getting used to these illegal things that are being made legal by the the crooks and go scotfree because the criminal has managed to put their friends, relatives and cronies in the Supreme Court and other agencies supposedly responsible for putting criminals like her to prison.
I have actually met Filipinos who commit crimes overseas and say that it cannot be helped because life in the Philippines is just that difficult and hard as if poverty can be an excuse for circumventing the law and trying to have the law adjust to how they can make their illegal acts look legal. It’s really shocking.
I am shocked, mind you, because at least the Filipinos we left behind when we migrated to the USA still had some sense of right and wrong, and understood that laws were actually made in heaven that men are inspired to adopt on earth not to restrict men but to improve their lives. When the laws of the land fail to do so, then for sure there must be something wrong somewhere as it is in the Philippines, etc. now.
That is why it is imperative that those men implementing the law like those men and women of the Philippine Supreme Court should be of the highest morality, and that is not just being faithful to the law against adultery but being chaste and pure in following the laws of the land that should have been inspired of God, and most of all, not conniving with a criminal who cannot get caught because she is now the law!
Worse is that in the Philippines, more often than not, the laws are drafted, passed and approved by arrogant men who should not be there doing such as a matter of fact. Sabi nga ng isang babaero sa Congress, kung kakasuhan daw siya ng adultery and asked to step down, baka maubos daw ang mga kinatawan sa Kongreso kaya nga tawag ng marami, “Tongress.”
Apparently, it is one of the dilemmas of the Philippines now, that is, having laws drafted and passed by the unrighteous men not to be followed but to circumvent and serve the unrighteous only. Saklap!
Correction, tolerate not tolerateate.
Will Gambala and Co. betray Trillanes and other Magdalos who have not surrendered to the whims of the bitch and her Ass by testifying against them in court? Mukhang ‘yan ang deal with the devil!
Only yesterday Asspweron said that there was no deal of pardon for the 9 ex-brave and principled soldiers. Today, the Ass says that pardon is likely for Korap Gloria’s new recruits.
Why do these sundalong kanin have to apologize to Gloria Dorobo? Sick!
Wait, people, we havent lost hope yet that there is something amiss in this unpardonable script. The written statement signed by the ‘infamous’ nine has been carefully and masterfully conceived and custom tailored to fit a dream. It is beyond the capability of warriors to concoct such ‘convincing’ words. And their pronouncements before the press faltered many times that revealed guilt beyond reasonable doubt that of parroting driven words from their tormentors. A classic doctrine of war is withdrawal or retreat, a possible strategy of the nine to recharge their batteries.
lousy script…
“..we weakened the very country we dearly love”. COWARDS. You’ve just became another good people became “tools” of Pigheaded Gloria in her continuing acts “TO WEAKEN THE VERY COUNTRY WE DEARLY LOVE”. Oh, no please don’t show faces shaking hands with the Philippine’s most hated woman in photo-ops. NAKAKAHIYA KAYO.
Another idealistic men victimized by Pidalistic Government.
Another medical check up for the Evil Woman? May she die in agony…
GMA goes to St. Luke’s for check-up
President Arroyo squeezed into her tight schedule yesterday what officials said was a long overdue regular check-up at the St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) in Quezon City.
Presidential Security Group (PSG) chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Prestoza and Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, in separate statements, said Mrs. Arroyo visited SLMC around 1:30 p.m. and stayed until about 2:15 p.m.
Prestoza said the President was not complaining of any ailment despite her heavy workload. She was only interviewed by her doctors and no tests were done on her.
When the creep goes to St. Luke’s, you know for sure she is cooking up something much more abominable.
Susmaryosep!
Heavy workload? Publicity stunt more like. Nahirapan daw kaya pupunta sa doktor? I don’ts believe it. I don’t go to the doctor every time I finish a job unless I feel really terrible.
These past few days nga ang dami kong translation job. Konti lang ang tuloy ko. Buti na lang I have Sunday to rest and reserve for my religious responsibility. In fact, that for me is more invigorating spiritually and physically. Wala pang hypocrisy!
Nakakasawa na ang gimmick ni Gloria Dorobo even wen it comes to these people she puts to jail tapos pinapaamo kuno and then pardon daw niya para tingin nila sa kaniya Diyosa at makapangyarihan.
I’m actually not impressed. Iba talaga when you get used to something more progressive and superior than the expensive publicity stunt of the dorobos in the Philippines. Tuloy labas ng mga pilipino mga pataygutom and getting all kind s of beating not just in the Philippines but even overseas.
Kawawang Pilipinas! Please sipain na!
Frankly, I don’t actually care what these sundalong kanin do from now. In fact, from the first time I heard of their turning back to the ideals of Magdalo, I have realized why Trillanes and the braver of his companions did not succeed in pulling the criminal out of the palace by the murky river.
Noticed lately that she does not look too well at she seems to have lost some weight..hindi dahil sa walang bigas..but considering the problems of the country..paano siya maka tulog ng mahusay…sana dagdagan pa niya ang mga problema niya..the problems she has right now are her own doings..more problems she has the more they will certainly wear her down..kahit ba maragul pa siyang damulag..she will someday have to rest..may that day come soon..so she can really rest in peace..makakatulog siyang tunay na mahimbing…
This what happened when you sent boys to the mens job, they want mercy instead. In my opinion, those 9 officers deserve the firing squad and be done with it. How can they be constructive members of the society when they’re guilty of coup d’etat? They’re certified untrustworthy, disgraced to the uniform and the country. They deserve the prison, the maximum sentence. What’s truly amazing about this injustices is Angelo Reyes, if anybody guilty of coup is Angelo. But, this is Philippines.
I just watched the video clip of the apology of Gambala, et al. Wala daw deal with the criminal at the palace by the murky river.
Oh yeah? Just who are they killing? Ganyan-ganyan ang eksena when Erap was convicted and sentenced by the questionable Philippine court prior to the pardon by the Mafiosa, and Erap now being used knowingly and/or unknowingly even to try to weaken any movemement to remove the mother of lies and deceit, and he succeeded in doing so in fact with the momentum being dampened since the March 14 rally in Makati,
Kaya kailangang magkapera even by the hoarding of rice para sa publicity stunt ng ungas.
Kawawang bansa talaga!
Rose,
May pinsan ako in a matter of one month, bumagsak ng 39 kilos from 58. Iyon pala may may lymphoma. Namatay siya due to complications caused by her chemo.
Meanwhile, my prayers for Mrs. Cory Aquino.
ellen,
““There is nothing I can do right now. I have accepted my verdict. The only thing I can do right now is to ask for mercy and grace from God and the authority. I am asking for mercy and I can give nothing in return but my purest intention,” he said.”
this should not be a supposed statement of a battle tested soldier-officer. it is a clear scripted make believe statement made to appear he is remorseful of his actions.
these ex-Magdalo soldiers not only betrayed the group and the nation, but they also betrayed themselves tsk tsk.
even if Sen. Trillanes ‘surrendered’ (for the sake of the media, or for his life, i really don’t know) at the Makati standoff, at least, he’s still consistent asking for GMA’s resignation. i hope he fights for his stand and won’t ask pardon (from GMA of all people. but i know that he won’t) or else our country would have really turned hopeless– letting an underserving and a questionable leader to run the country, letting all the corruption and the killings to go on because it happens so often that it already seems like normal.
i’m very disappointed with our justice system that we have (or lack thereof). it should change its name, really.
Asking forgiveness and mercy from illegitimate dwarf pokpok president kuno is a grave insult to the people of the Philippines.
Off topic:
BBC NEWS is one sided on its story on rice crises in pinas. Why? BBC is reporting the rice crisis based only on gloria’s point of view. Stated on their headline news that rice crisis occurred because of hoarders and even interviewed gloria’s secretary yap. BBC never interviewed opposition figures, never mentioned about the fertilizer scams of joc joc, and irrigation scams which are causes of rice shortage in pinas. Also, when President Joseph Estrada was pardoned by coup d’etat gloria arroyo the BBC News never interviewed the opposition figures. They only interviewed pro arroyo prostitutes. Even if they interviewed the opposition figures they only publish statements that will not show the truth about gloria’s cheating, lying, coup d’etat, scams, etc….
BBC NEWS is clearly on the side of that pokpok. Why? Are they afraid of gloria to be booted out of the country? Are our media outlets, that are not in the pocket of gloria, are not making a good job of dissiminating informations to foreign press? It seems like BBC NEWS is on the side of gloria ever since her last visit to UK. At that time there was even a photo op with the queen of England whereas before the last visit of gloria only prince Edward met with gloria.

Ano ba yan, nadoble. Sabi ni WordPress “It seems you already said that”.

Good that you said it straight, Tony.
“…illegitimate dwarf pokpok president. – x-man
Aptly describes the bitch. Pinu-pokpok ng husto ang mga Magdalo, ex and current, and junior officers to be at her side for all evil personal and illegal reasons.
This comment was posted by Tongue in the preceding article:
I would not mind if they pleaded guilty. But to keep asking for forgiveness and pardon, crying makes me truly sick. Once this Evil Woman is gone, let’s remember these 9 traitors. They should be sent to the South to fight those Muslim bandits or be hanged upside down.
I have been predicting and telling you this, my friends, these Magdalo officers and soldiers are not real. They struck a deal with Esperon for the 2 lead officers to be convicted, then ask forgiveness, the result would be freedom. Simple as that. Everything under this government of Gloria could be bought. LOLOKOHIN PA BA TAYO? These kind of soldiers need not serve our country. They are lousy-dumbguards, mga UHUGIN. Let them disappear in the air!!!
Edd, let me stress: Gambala et al are former magdalo soldiers.
The real Magdalo soldiers, more than 20 still in prison, and many more outside continue to fight for truth and justice.
Juanito, that’s funny. Yes, why don’t the Magdalo soldiers dance the “Banana Dance” and post it on YouTube? They can have their own version called “Banana Republic Dance”.
My golly, reversing a plea from not guilty to guilty (after 5 yrs at that!) to a supposedly crime, then have themselves convicted and asking pardon right away, (if there’s really no deal) is insanity!
If there was a deal, then these 9 officers were just saving their balls and throwing their dignity out of the window. Wag pamarisan ika nga ni Gambala.
These 9 officers are typical example of military adventurists. They didn’t know what they were fighting for.
(these are the exact words from the soldiers).
Si Gambala pwede maging chief of Staff.
QUESTION:
“We who lie, cheat, steal, and urge others to do so will remain in power.” – gloria esperon
issue: rice crisis
gma solution: let them eat cake
issue: destab
esperons soln: intimidate then buy them out
issue: all crises
gma soln: LIE about
Akala nila.
Gambala:
“I have a son, a one-year-old son. He does not know what is happening to my life now but I would like to see him grow…”
Maestrecampo:
“Nu’ng 2006, nagka-dengue ang anak ko, hindi ko naalagaan“.
Taragis na kababawan iyan. Bakit kayo nagsundalo?
Baklang-bakla namang rason iyan. Pang-telenovela, oo. Pero hindi pang-PMA. Sorry, pero “sloppy” is such an understatement.
*****
Based on this logic, dapat pala si Erap din nang i-pardon, ibinalik din ang dating position na presidente ng Pilipinas dahil hindi naman niya natapos ang term niya and considering the fact that Gloria Dorobo was sworn in merely as a “Acting President.”
Kawawang bansa talaga!
Kaya nga sabi ko, who are they kidding (not killing)? Convicts puedeng magbigay ng presscon? Unbelievable!
BTW, I subscribed to world on demand para makapanood ng balita sa Pilipinas.
The argument that Erap should be reinstated as President if these 9 soldiers are reinstated makes sense. I’m not sure if the soldiers were finally convicted because they pleaded guilty. Erap was convicted. I think there lies the difference.
Xman, even in international papers, there is hardly any story in the local Filipino papers about the TRUE state of our country. This evil bitch must really pay the international journalists large sums of money! As far as I am concerned, I go to the internet and read Malaya, Tribune, Abante and Inquirer ( not all the time).
Chi, “pokpok” means prostitute!
I felt the pain of these incarcerated soldiers and their families. I had seen the cages they were put in. I know the amount of money they have to spend for their lawyers’ fees and the expenses that their families have when they visit the incarcerated soldiers. If these soldiers were in a country that is worth sacrificing for, I would say GO FOR IT! But in a country where those lording over are CRIMINALS and the upright ones are incarcerated, if I were one of them, I would go for my FREEDOM! Call me a sissy, a coward or anything worse than that but at this point where Filipinos are just LOOKING at the corruption and not doing anything, I would not even waste one more day in jail!
For those of you who had not even visited the cells these soldiers are in, it is so easy to pre-judge. I saw the conditions these men were in and still have to experience and personally it is pathetic! IMAGINE SACRIFICING FOR A COUNTRY THAT TREATS CRIMINALS as their REAL LEADERS! Save for a few concerned citizens, those who join the rallies like Lozada et al. Lawyers like Harry Roque who is all out in exposing what he discovers. Cory Aquino who, inspite of her illness found a way to be with the rallyists. Ellen and the likes of her who constantly uncover anomalies in this regime, all others are just fence sitters. It is not right to see other people suffer and delight in that while over 90% of the citizens are just “DEDMA” lang, WALANG MGA PAKIRAMDAM!
If there was a deal between asspweron, the evil bitch and these 9 Magdalo soldiers, dapat sa kanila na lang yun. To read a scripted message to obviously drum up support for the COMMANDER IN CHEAT and the SHIT of STAFF, nakakasuka! They should just keep QUIET!
PSB:
Even the condition of prison and detention cells in the Philippines is already a violation of human rights especially when they frame up and put innocent people to jail, and for the caprice of a criminal like Gloria Dorobo.
I should know. My uncle was warden at Muntinlupa many years ago, and a few years back I went to visit a Japanese on deathrow, and saw the deplorable conditon of inmates there especially those who came from the lower class of the Philippine society. I understood then what “butabako,” a Japanese slang for prison cell meant. The prison cells in Muntinlupa, unless you have money to bribe the officials there for better accommodations, etc., surely more like pig’s den!
In a way, I can see why the Americans demanded better cell for Smith whom they even had to rescue and provide him with US standard prison cell in the US Embassy, which should not have been allowed by the Philippine government because it is in fact infringement on Philippine sovereignty since the US Embassy is in principle, a US territory and the Philippines has no jurisdiction over what the Americans do inside it.
Sa amin iyan, PSB, katakot-takot na protesta iyan from the Federation of Bar Associations of Japan. At saka hindi dapat pino-problema ang lawyer’s fees lalo na pra sa mga mahirap for justice to prevail and judgment be fair. Dapat may welfare system sila for justice to work and succeed.
Talagang backward pa rin despite the braggings of improvement and progress by the idiot who brags about her PhD daw (may binayaran lang sa UP then balita ko!) pero kamote naman. Tapos may mga inutil na pinoy dito na gusto pang pakialam ang palakad sa bansang Hapon for the sake of those lawbreaking Filipinos na pinapadala ni Gloria Dorobo, et al kung saan-saan. Kunsumisyon talaga!
to the former 9 magdalo soldiers:
with the way how you betrayed your former colleagues, am glad you were not my sons but of that EVIL BITCH!
Arranged by the AFP at the Army Officers Club.
Walang deal yan ha.
PSB, I’m sorry I don’t share your broadmindedness and sympathy with Gambala et al.
They are being used to destroy Trillanes et all. And they agreed to save their skin.
Ellen,
I don’t think na masyadong marunong si Gloria Dorobo. Tuso, yes!
Hindi nga iyan nakapasok sa UP noong undergrad niya at the time when the parochial schools could not match with the state university. I bet you, kung nagawa ng tatay niya ang gusto niya, sa UP nag-undergrad iyan pero dahil sa bobo dela yuca ang ungas, sa Assumption pumasok after the Georgetown Uexperience of being an observer. Iyan yabang niyan, you can bet your bottom dollar gusto niyang pumasok kung saan sikat, and during our time, kung UP ka, sikat ka.
When an idiot pretends to be intelligent, diyan nagsisimula ang palpak!
Lagi kasing galit.
If you would learn to forgive others for their mistakes, trust me, you’ll feel better. Don’t expect to be forgiven if you can’t forgive people like Gambala, et. al who have ruined your lives as proud Filipinos.
Pinatatawad ko na sila. I was probably more affected of the situation in Oakwood than most of you here, and more than you’ll ever know. Pero anong magagawa natin. Everyone deserves another chance.
It’s not as if they’re rapists or something. Sheesh….
nawala ‘yung post ko kanina?
may naglalaro na naman?
xenocryst,
Forgiveness is grounded on genuine mercy. But mercy has its requisites – justice is but one of them, so is truth, the other consideration among the more important ones.
Lest we forget, Gloria said on national TV, “I am sorry” and immediately afterwards Bunye announces, “The president has apologized, it is time to move on and forget the past”.
The natural course is that offenders do not dictate the outcome of their admission. The offended must be allowed retribution, the offender – reform, then we can talk forgiveness. It is not automatic.
Sure they will be forgiven, afterwards. Not yet when they’re just about to commit another wrong.
A crime is a crime no matter how you look at it. Hindi puede iyong “I am sorry. Nagkamali kasi ako!” Sus! Yuck, talaga ang mga katwiran and sense of right and wrong! Wayward mentality talaga. Bayani daw kasi nagpapadala ng foreign currency to bouy up the lousy Philippine economy! Bakit hindi iyan binabatikos ng simbahan?
Magno,
Maraming unwanted spywares dito when we blog lalo na kung kinakalaban mo ang nanay ni Luli. Kaya, pirmi kong nililinis ang PC ko everytime I get to this blog.
Ingat!
I (We) told you so…Now Esperon and Teodora are calling for the 9 former Magdalo’s soldiers’ pardon. Isn’t it all scripted from the very beginning?
Wow! Pinababa ang quality ng PMA. Sayang! Lalo tuloy nawala ang galang ko sa mga gunggong who run their country like hell!!! Pathetic, sabi ni Ellen. You bet! Mas masahol pa kamo.
With the kind of crooks they have at the AFP, etc. to lead Filipinos, di pa man nilulusob ng kalaban, pihado talo na!
Kawawang bansa! Tama talaga ang tatay ko when he said then that with the rate the Philippines was going then in the 60’s, soon it would be a third world country. Ngayon nga 4th world pa nga yata!
How did you know that these men are ready to commit another wrong, tongue-twisted? Must be the Madam Auring in you. Wish I had that gift.
Anyway…as for forgiveness, aren’t we forgiven by God when we ask for it, and it is based on the three things that you mentioned: mercy, justice, and truth. Don’t we have a God that is merciful, just, and truthful?
Wesley’s comments on 1 John 1:9 (the verse that says “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”) are a clear explanation on how forgiveness really works:
“But if with a penitent and believing heart, we confess our sins, he is faithful – because he had promised this blessing, by the unanimous voice of all his prophets. Just – surely he will punish: no; for this very reason he will pardon. This may seem strange; but upon the evangelical principle of atonement and redemption, it is undoubtedly true; because, when the debt is paid, or the purchase made, it is the part of equity to cancel the bond, and consign over the purchased possession. (Christ died for us and rose again already.) Both to forgive us our sins – to take away all the guilt of them, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness – to purify our souls from every kind and every degree of it.”
Sino ba naman tayo para hindi magpatawad? What measures do we have against the Lord? If he wills them to be pardoned, I don’t think we can do anything. Ang Diyos nga nakakapagpatawad, and we’re supposed to be God-like, made in his image and likeness.
Ganito na lang… sabi nga ng aking Ate Boots sa kuro-kuro kanina, let he who has no sin cast the first stone.
You guys seem to forget about Lozada and Neri already. I got a question: What does Jun Lozada have that Neri doesn’t? BALLS.
xenocryst,
will you be the next one to forgive PGMA. And Esperon? And Garci? And Jocjoc? et al? I have already forgiven them, no choice according to the bible. But I think we should not talk too much about God and the bible. How much do you know about the Lord and the bible?
Tama ka, Valdemar, you don’t tell a criminal, “Now you pray ten “Our Fathers” and ten “Hail Marys” and God will forgive you!”
Valdemar,
We always have a choice. We can choose to forgive, we can choose not to.
God helps those who help themselves…
And our country direly needs help now. Truly, prayer and faith are needed–but we cannot expect any miracles if we just sit on our collective asses. we have to stand up and act—and we must do it NOW. The issue of the 9 EX-MAGDALO is just a reminder of how badly GMA wants to stay in power. She would have sold her mother’s soul to stay in Malacanang. She will do anything and everything to do so. But as Ellen said, there are still 20 principled men who have not yet sold out..and there are still numerous men who are not detained but are aalso fighting as hard. These men need our help and our collective action. Its time we stand up and do what is right.
Tongue, a number of the 53 Magdalo officers who were released last December were offered the jobs you mentioned. Some, I think are taking the job. Some opted to enter the private sector.
They can be hired as bodyguards and security personnel by Malacanang people and politicians identified with the Palace.
If the heat vanishes, they might even be reinstated secretly.
How would we know? Everything is possible under this evil regime. Look at this artificial rice crisis, it has overtaken the Abalos, Neri and ZTE cases. While it is true that there’s rice problem internationally, the GMA government focuses too much on this world wide problem aided by media under her payroll. Don’t you notice Sec. Yap and other Malacanang defenders all over the media these days?
bakti tinatago ang mga comments ko?
xenocryst,
Kundi kaya, nagpapakulong as prescribed by the law.
By then, mahigit nang 80 years old siya, at baka sasabihin niya, “OK Luli, ikaw na ngayon ang bagong reyna!” Heaven forbid!
xenocryst,
as I said earlier, forgiveness is not automatic. You are dead wrong when you say God will forgive you if you ask for it. There is this thing called penance. Wasn’t it Jesus who said “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”?
So shut up and go to hell, xenocryst.
Hey, I am sorry. Thanks for forgiving me.
By the way, Madam Auring is a fake. Even her face is fake. You wish you had that “gift”? All it takes is an IQ of a 4-year old to know that Gambala et al’s upcoming pardon is preparatory to the conviction of the remaining Magdalos and Tanay detainees. If you still don’t see that coming, I have this 3-year old nephew who can explain it to you.
I’m normally the forgiving kind but I’m not that stupid to forgive someone who admits a sin he never committed. What they did was not Coup d’etat as they admit! They occupied Oakwood and held a presscon. The same as Manila Pen. So why isn’t Manila Pen a Coup d’etat?
Neither will I forgive a half-wit like you who would claim to have murdered the Dead Sea.
Sorry for the harsh words. Thanks for forgiving me.
Buti minura mo, Tongue.
That’s why brave men are not too many. It is during tremendous trials and pressures that we can find real men. Don’t think everyone barks the same way as you do and with no balls like you.
“Brave men don’t cry just to seek pardon from a bogus President”.. Can’t blame those officers.. but i pity them! Bakit? Hindi sila nag-iisa.. many of those freed Magdalo Officers and those who are still incarcerated, suffered a lot just to fight for what is JUST and RIGHT.. Well, GAMBALA and MAESTROCAMPO were used to CRYING.. We’re expecting that pleading GUILTY has been negotiated with ESPERON in exchange for a PARDON.. as usual SCRIPTED..They pleaded guilty pra madiin sina SEN.TRILLANES because they knew.. SEN. TRILLANES et al will never plead GUILTY..and will never beg from ESPERON and ARROYO.WELL, HAPPY GILMORE:ang tatapang nyong mambuyo
What i can say to you.. WHEN YOU FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT AND JUST, BE READY TO TAKE THE CONSEQUENCES.. FOR FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE AND A GOOD CAUSE, YOU DON’T HAVE TO SAY SORRY.. IT’S LIKE ADMITTING YOU WE’RE WRONG WHEN YOU FIGHT FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE..
