Do your worst

Statement issued by detained Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV today. It was in his own handwriting:

st.JPGI am supposed to testify as a defense witness today in connection with my coup d’etat case at the Makati RTC. However, after much reflection, I decided to forgo my testimony and write this letter instead.

“There are few undisputed facts in this case: 1) That on July 27, 2003, I, together with 300 other officers and men, spoke the TRUTH; 2) No person was harmed; 3) No property was damaged; and 4) Not a single shot was fired. Yet, after almost five years in detention, we still stand acused of committing a crime that could have us incarcerated for life. Is this just? No. Did I ever regret my actions? No.

“Now, the prosecutor have allowed themselves to be used as an instrument to further their injustice and the presiding judge may yet be pressured into convicting us, but everyone in this courtroom knows -deep in their hearts – that we are not criminals and definitely not a menace to society. On the contrary, we, the accused, hve rendered faithful service to our Motherland; we have lived by the ideals our alma mater, the Philippine Miltiary Academy, has taught us – COURAGE, INTEGRITY and LOYALTY. The physical and moral courage to stand up against what is wrong and to fight for what is right; the integrity to resist the lure and trappings of power and wealth, and the unbending loyalty to God, Country and People.

“The question now is, Why are we in prison? Indeed, why are we in prison when the TRUTH we spoke of on that fateful day has been validated time and again through their despicable revelations of crime and corruption committed by GMA and her cohorts? Why are we in prison when, through the recent elections, the Filipino people have affirmed the justness of our cause?

“In my search for the answer to these questions, I came across Henry David Thoreau’s essay on Civil Disobedience and I quote: ‘Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also a prison.'”

“Today, I refuse to participate any further in this travestry of justice just as the GMA administration has lost all moral authority to render any judgment over me and my companions. Do your worst, for we have already been acquitted by the people.”

Just hang in there, sir. What you and your fellow patriotic soldiers did for our motherland will forever be remembered as part of our country’s continuing struggle for independence not just from foreign colonizers but from the chains of despotic and corrupt bondage by a government that lost all of its ascendancy and credibility with the people.

I agree on AT4 not participating in a mock court proceedings. Afterall, on the order of the pResident Bitch the judge won’t be fair in trying their case.

Why are you and the others who love their country in prison? Because you are fighting for truth and justice.

And yes, those 11+ million pinoys already acquitted you, your Honor!

Hang in there a little bit more, the bitch regime is already on the brink!

“Why are we in prison when, through the recent elections, the Filipino people have affirmed the justness of our cause?”

Because you are a persistent thorn on the bitch illegal hold on power.

When most Pinoy’s didn’t care to hear about Gloria’s corruption, you and the few good men with you now in prison were the first to exposed her evilness. And even in prison, you continue to do so.

Many have now followed your path exposing the truth.
Thank you for leading us to the “path less traveled”.

I must admit that the first time I heard of the Oakwood mutiny, I sympathized with the administration. I thought that gma should be given the chance to prove her governance. However, as things developed and anomalies unraveled it came to light that the officers in “mutiny” had justification! And now with all that have happened and are happening, I say that the officers were heroic, that what they did was heroic.

What now? Gloria must go and a new AFP must rise to correct the injustice that is happening and about to happen.

  13. Snoopy Snoopy

Philippine Miltiary Academy, has taught us – COURAGE, INTEGRITY and LOYALTY
and it has put you in jail, how ironical. I sympathize with you. To uplift your faith, think that Jesus went thru more suffering. Keep the faith.

  14. Stand for the truth, Senator Trillanes! A lot many of us knew of the things you were complaining about but all the we could do was join rallies, write petitions and see who among the people voted by the people to represent are really working their welfare and interests.

We actually felt grateful that you and your friends were taking the burdens from our shoulders, and prayed hard that the system had not been so corrupted yet for a criminal like the one sitting at the palace by the murky to be brought to justice and punished accordingly for the crimes she was committing against the Philippines and the Filipino people, but in vain. At least, hopefully, for the moment!

Keep praying. We’re doing the same. As a prophet of our church counseled, “Faith precedes miracles!!!”

  15. You don’t give chance to a criminal, and let her go on perpetrating more heinous crimes. It is what majority of Filipinos have in fact done these past 7 years.

Sensing that there’s no stopping the momentum anymore of people’s outrage, Malacanang again is using the “terrorist” card to prevent people from joining the rallies. According to Ermita, there are confirmed intelligence reports that terrorists are infiltrating the rallies. So, what’s new?

  17. Its almost 5 years. Five years…I can’t imagine how Trillanes and company managed to cope until now. My only consolation is the hope that in two years time or less, the political landscape will change and they will breath the air of freedom once again and saan pupulutin si Esperon pagdating ng panahon…

I used to think that corruption and criminality in the Philippines were caused by poverty. But recent events tell me this isn’t true.

It is one thing to see people turn into drug addicts, prostitutes, thieves and murderers because of hunger and poverty. But what excuse do these rich, educated people have that could possibly explain their bizarre behavior?

  24. Yes, Filipinos might as well do their worse. The idiot is at it again. She’s ordering a team of abogago to study the possibility of charging Lozada with sedition for spilling the beans on her husband, and for talking about it to students in schools showing interest in what he has to say.

Wow! Since when is squealing on a criminal a seditious act. Isn’t it just right that Lozada should spill the beans and save the taxpayers from being made pawns for all the anomalous borrowings, etc. the creep has been incurring in the name of the Philippine Republic and its citizens? Bakit sino ba si Gloria? Isang magnanakaw! That is what she is!

The Senate should protect Lozada and the other witnesses the senators plan to call for testimonies on this NBN/ZTE and other shady deals the idiot has entered and will enter into with the civilian husband conducting, err. dictating the procedure according to the witnesses. Kundi, taumbayan na ang gumawa niyan. Tignan lang natin ang tigas ni Dorobo!

    Cocoy,

Ayaw ni Sonny Trillanes ng ganyan kaya he filed a resolution exposing the Spratly sellout.

After several years, AT4 and his group’s claim that Gloria is corrupt was proven right.

  27. Gloria Dorobo surely must be delusional to think that she is the republic. She isn’t.

She is nothing but a criminal imagining herself as having sole ownership of the Philippines and anything thriving and placed in it. She should be kicked out of that palace by the murky river NOW!

Thus, squealing on the criminal activities of this criminal and her husband surely does not constitute a crime. It is NOT sedition. It is fulfilling one’s duty and responsibility to the republic one takes a pledge of allegiance to, not to this individual whom everyone knows grabbed and stole her position not just once but twice!!!

Sobra Na, Tama Na, Sipain Na!

  28. Truth is Gloria Macapalgal Arroyo is the epitome of all the things that God hates: proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren (Prov. 6:17-19), seven things that the creep excels in!

  29. Yuko,

You’ve just described the Arroyo couple and their henchmen.

  30. Jug,

“…saan pupulutin si Esperon pagdating ng panahon…”

This line of yours reminds me of a salvage story that was effected by a few members of Class 72.

Story which happened sometime in the 80s told to me first hand by one of their members went like this:

One of their classmates who was on leave was woken up by his wife to ask him to go get something from a grocery as she was making dinner.

Officer went to grocery and bought the stuff but once outside the grocery was accosted asked by a group of guys who demanded that he hand the money and his watch. The officer refused and prepared to fight back group (can’t remember how many) but he was outnumbered and was beaten up and stabbed. The grocery owner called the police but no police came. The officer died on the spot.

After an hour, the wife was wondering why her husband wasn’t back and suspected that he might be having beer somewhere so she went to the grocery where she noticed the mayhem (no police yet, no ambulance, etc) not realizing that the person around whom people were milling was her husband. She paid little attention and went inside the grocery to see if her husband was inside — she even asked an employee what the whole trouble was all about; she was told some guy had been stabbed, etc.

Tanong niya, bakit? The guy said hold up po ayaw ibigay iyong relo at pera. The wife started to panic and rushed over to the spot where people were milling to discover her husband was on the ground swathing in his blood and dead.

When the entire Class 72 learned about this, they decided to take their revenge. They investigated and tracked the killers of their mistah one by one. Some were captured as quickly as three weeks after the murder and the last one a couple of months later. All of them were executed by the mistahs of the murdered officer. The last one was tracked down in San Pablo while leaving his parents’ home; he was captured, brought to a kangkungan paddy field somewhere and promptly executed.

    This could happen to Esperon!

  39. With Sonny Trillanes providing inspiration to his generation and those after theirs, we can all feel comforted that our children will have leaders who can start clean, not owing their political fortunes on the sponsorship of vested interests but installed by unstained patriotism and sheer voluntary sacrifices.

Sonny Trillanes and we, his voters, proved to all and sundry that the politics of corruption can be stopped and all it needs is to begin with honest candidates with pure intentions, not from flowery speeches nor pompous displays of resources. Not from expensive and endless primetime plugs nor from similarly exorbitant celebrity endorsements.

With Sonny Trillanes as our model, our experimental venture into volunteerism paid very encouraging rewards, this endeavor shall be permanently included among the alternative options for similar-minded future politicians who genuinely wish to serve.

Rather than agonizing in his jail cell, which in these times is considered as more a badge of honor, Sonny Trillanes’ admirable consistency in his manifestation of fortitude and integrity in situations where mere mortals could have easily succumbed and gave in to compromise, Sonny Trillanes stood his ground and has never faltered.

Sonny, the caterpillar at one point in its life will need to hibernate in its cocoon. Nature will take over and nurture its development, transformation and maturity. In due time it will emerge as a beautiful and mighty butterfly.

Se. Trillanes reminds me of a young Gringgo, when the latter was still not corrupted by the contagious sickness called “traditionalities politiciansy”. But certainly we all know where Sen. AT4 and the other gentleman officers like Gen. Danny Lim would be after the downfall of this obnoxious and distasteful regime of the evil dwarf, the same could be said to assperon, eggsperon, or whatever fartlike name we can call this dwarf’s overstaying chief of staff. Hoorah!

  44. concerned citizen concerned citizen

    Ma’am Ellen,

I can only say that the reason why Senator Trillanes and the likes of him who are still in prison, are still in detention, is that there is a dysfunction in the way the majority of us Filipinos view how to react to improper governance. That’s why those who are involved in irregularities are having a grand time robbing the citizenry of funds that could improve the lives of the great majority who are living below the poverty line. Itong mga corrupt na ito ay walang concept ng kamaliang ginagawa nila dahil nga meron dysfunction in the way we view good governance. Nananahimik lang tayo madalas. We let go of our guard/vigilance kaya hayan, even after Oakwood, we had Jose Pidal, we had the lobbying brouhaha c/o Sec. Norberto Gonzales, we had the fertilizer scam c/o USec. Bolante, the Hello Garci tapes, the Northrail, Southrail, NBN-ZTE scandals c/o $8 billion ODAs and Spratlys oncessions, etc., etc. Jun Lozada for sometime belonged to this sector (alas, marami rin)as may be gleaned from “permissible” levels of corruption wrt overprice, giving certain concessions to friends, relatives, etc. It’s good that he realized after his brave senate appearance that there should be no room, not even a miniscule percentage for “permissible” corruption. It’s good that the citizenry has to a large extent waken up to the abuses and has of late been making noise. I agree with former SC Justice Panganiban when he wrote in his column in the PDI, ” CONTINUE THE BLITZ! My prayer is that GMA would follow the people’s outcry and take the moral high ground and resign. Whether she does or doesn’t resign, we must be always vigilant. Bantayan natin lahat ng mga proyekto, maliit man o malaki. Lahat tayo merong nakataya sa bayan natin. Whatever or wherever is our station in life, let’s all be vigilant. If we are in that strata of ‘comfortable life’, let’s try to help those who have less in life especially those living below the poverty level. Kawawa naman ang majority of the Filipinos.

Ambassador Farolan, continue the blitz!. It’s such a great comfort to know that you are carrying the torch against abuses. I have known you during your stint as ambassador in Indonesia. Noon pa man, kitang-kita ko that you are an officer and a gentleman, and that you love our country, the Philippines. I pray that such love for country rubs off on Generals Esperon, Razon and their kind. The AFP stands for Armed Forces of the Philipiines, not Armed Forces of the President. The PNP is called Philipine National Police, not President’s National Police. to Generals Esperon, Razon and company – Serve the great majority of the Filipino people, not just one person and that person’s personal and official family.

    concerned citizen:

  46. concerned citizen concerned citizen

    Nelbar,

Kaya nga ang sabi ko, the AFP and PNP should SERVE THE PEOPLE. Ang letrang P sa AFP and unang letrang P sa PNP both stand for PHILIPPINES, country or citizens of the country hindi para sa President lang. I have commented earlier this week in Ma’am Ellen’s blog (re AFP-PNP UNITY MARCH in relation to Ambassador Farolan’s column in the PDI last Monday)na dapat equal ang treatment ng PNP and local government sa mga anti and pro 4×4 rallyists. I have not given up on General Razon and his group. I am still praying that they will muster the guts to come out in the open and give equal treatment to the various groups coming out these days to air their concerns.

This is my honest assessment on the recent violence by the workers who rallied in Manila. Needless to say, many or most of these militant groups belonging to laborers are identified with the Left. They are such since the time of Marcos. They are not only fighting for equal rights and just labor conditions; but for ideology. Even if there were no Communist infiltrators in their rallies, the law enforcers are obliged to secure the city and people from trouble makers. Based on the video footage I personally saw, these demonstrators violently fought the Police who were outnumbered. Unlike the time of Mayor Atienza who was very pro-Gloria, the current Mayor Fred Lim is with the opposition. Therefore, the Manila Police would think twice before hurting these demonstrators because of Mayor Lim. True indeed for Mayor Lim immediately worked for the release of those arrested. Please be reminded that these militant groups are different from the rest of the anti-Arroyo groups. The Leftist groups represented by the party-list groups in the Congress would continue to fight against the government regardless of who the President is. Gloria Arroyo being there in Malacanang is just incidental. In 2010 when a new President is elected and even if this new leader happens to come from the opposition, these militant groups would still go out in the streets and protest.

Kahit na pa communista ang mga workers na ito..are they not to be treated with dignity? Anak din sila ng Dios..kahit na ba iba ang kanilang pagintindi..Non Violent peace making ala Gandhi..is what we should all try..

Rose, please review my post twice, thrice and many times. I did not say the Police was justified in treating the protesting workers. What I was suggesting that most of the time, these workers are communists who are not only fighting for their working conditions, but for ideology. So, whoever the President and whatever the government is, they shall continue to protest. Kindly check the content of my post and refrain from arriving at a conclusion. I was just stating a fact.

  67. Question: Btw, is communism illegal in the Philippines?

  68. The CPP and communism as an ideology are legal in the Philippines. It’s the NPA, the armed component that is illegal.

bitchev: I did not accuse you of anything..so don’t justify your statement to me…I saw the footage too..and that was how I saw it..I did not even read your statement..nor do I care less about what you said..save your breath!

—Rose, the above was your common immediately after my post when I mentioned the workers in the rally are identified with the Left. Anyway, Ellen said was correct. Communist is legal but not NPA, the armed group. That’s the reason why militant party-list groups such as Bayan’s Satur Ocampo was elected to Congress.

Bitchevil: I can understand where you are coming when you stated the fact that the Left (specifically the “national democrats” or NDs) are fighting for an ideology. But I tend to disagree with the somewhat negative connotation of a political organization or group being guided by ideology in their activities like mass actions/rallies.

For transparency, I have to admit that I have an emotional attachment with the Left, not primarily because of its predominantly “communistic” ideology but the fact that in the quest for social justice by the “masa”, they are the only political group who offered a program, lived with the masses, and some even took arms for it. This sense of commitment to “serve the people” made me respect the Left for its contribution in our nation’s struggle against injustice and tyranny. During Marcos’ time, most of the martyred heroes that we recognize along with Ninoy Aquino came from the Left — Edgar Jopson, Macli-ing Dulag, Dr. Johnny dela Paz, Lean Alejandro, Ma. Lorena Barrios, the Olalias (both father and son).

Even the late Capt. Rene Jarque and some of the original YOU officers recognized this contribution and relevance of the Left for social change, to quote Capt. Jarque: “I think the best combination for a military intervention, if ever it happens or when it becomes “final solution” or “fait accompli”, would be the younger generation of the Officer Corps supported by broad popular support, including the progressive elements of the Left. Perhaps then, we can expect real change in government.”

Unless social justice for the marginalized sector is realized, whoever sits in Malacanang will have to contend with the mass actions sponsored and organized by the Left. The traditional political parties (both Lakas/KAMPI of GMA and the opposition UNO) don’t even have any ideology and clear social program to speak of – just an aggrupation of individuals who switch parties every now and then, depending on who is in power (mga balimbing as we have called them).

I have no doubt that you’re sympathetic to the Left. Your name “Sandinista” tells me. The emergence of Communism and those who fight for a different ideology other than democratic was as a result of centuries of colonialism and foreign dominance. I too have a heart for these Leftist groups. One thing that worries me is that Communism is a Godless ideology. Since I believe in God, such a group does not and cannot convince me even if their motive is patriotic. But religion also does harm to the country. When the Spaniards came to the Philippines, they came with them religion (Catholism) that was forced on the natives. We need not talk about how these Spanish Friars abuse the Filipinos using God and religion as their instrument. Along with religion came the abuses of the wealthy who used their money and influence to control the major portion of the country’s wealth. It’s the poor who suffered and continue to suffer. How many lands were taken and grabbed by the church? These lands belong to the Filipino people. The arrogance of these religious leaders continue up to these days when instead of listening to people’s plight, they side with this evil regime.

It breaks my heart seeing the picture of Sen. Trillanes in handcuff and being body searched. He is taking it with dignity. Just like when he arrived for his proclamation at the Comelec in handcuffs.

    I’m enraged.
