Thousands converged yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino monument in Makati City to call for President Arroyo’s resignation and prosecution of officials involved in graft and corruption.

They also expressed support for Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada, the Senate’s main witness in its inquiry into the national broadband network project that Arroyo cancelled last year amid allegations of payoffs.

Rally organizers said 10,000 to 12,000 participated in the protest action. The police figure was 8,000 at the peak around 5:30 p.m.

The organizers said talks are underway to mount the next protest action, tentatively set for the anniversary of Edsa 1 next week.

Today, a special “prayer service” for Lozada will be held at the Ultra in Pasig City to be led by Bangon Pilipinas president Bro Eddie Villanueva. Tomorrow, a Mass will be held at the De La Salle in Greenhills, San Juan.

Politicians and leaders of civil society and militant groups stayed at the sidelines as agreed on.

Among the speakers were “running priest” Robert Reyes, former Transportation undersecretary Josie Lichauco, Bishop Eliezer Pascua of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, and representatives of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and Gabriela.

Employees in office attire joined the protest. Confetti rained on the protesters from the Manila Bankers Life building and the Philippine Stock Exchange Center on Ayala avenue.

The protesters chanted “Sobra na, Tama na, Kumilos na,” the rally’s theme, as they marched toward the Ninoy Aquino monument at the corner of Ayala and Paseo de Roxas.

During the first hour of the rally, a police helicopter hovered over the rally site.

Activist priest Joe Dizon of Solidarity Philippines lambasted the “Diocese of Malacañang” for dissuading people from joining street protests.

He said the “communal action” being called by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines “means collective prayer and it also means demonstrations such as this.”

Applause and cheers greeted the announcement of the arrival of Joey de Venecia, son of ousted Speaker Jose de Venecia.

‘WE WILL OUST YOU’

Crowds went wild when lawyer Harry Roque and actress and scriptwriter Bibeth Orteza took over the program and led the singing of a popular rock anthem whose lyrics were changed for the occasion: “We will, we will oust you!”

Placed prominently beside the stage was a streamer lampooning Higher Education chair Romulo Neri’s instruction to Lozada, which read: “Moderate your greed; Exterminate your greed.”

Also eliciting chuckles from the crowd were giant streamers that read, “Proud to be a Probinsyanong Intsik,” in an obvious reference to chief presidential legal counsel Sergio Apostol’s disparaging description of Lozada.

Protesters also poked fun at the “cloud-seeding operations” purportedly done by Malacañang as well as to the three closed-circuit cameras installed by the government on two lamp posts at Ayala avenue and Paseo de Roxas.

Common folk brought homemade placards bearing photos of Arroyo side by side with those of reptiles and snakes, while women’s group Gabriela paraded a replica of the official presidential seal but with a papier mache crocodile placed across it.

‘DESPERATE HOUSEHOLD’

Leaders of the Kilusang Mayo Uno, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, and other cause-oriented groups brandished lampooned movie posters.

One of them read “Desperate Household” which showed photos of Arroyo, husband Mike, resigned Comelec chair Benjamin Abalos and Neri.

Placards said “guilty, guilty” while a banner displayed a caricature showing Arroyo lying on bags of cash.

An image of the Arroyos, marked “couple in crime,” was pelted with tomatoes while protesters chanted “enough is enough, overthrow Gloria.”

Vigorous applause greeted speakers each time they called for President Arroyo’s ouster or resignation.

Among the personalities in the rally were former Vice President Teofisto Guingona; Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay; former Senate president Ernesto Maceda; Representatives Satur Ocampo, Teddy Casiño, Liza Maza, Abby Binay, and Roilo Golez; Iloilo Vice Gov. Rolex Suplico; San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito; film director Carlitos Siguion Reyna and mother Armida Siguion Reyna; Nini Quezon-Avanceña; lawyers Lorna Kapunan, Adel Tamano, JV Bautista, Argee Guevarra, Louie Sison and Ernesto Francisco; urban poor leader Carmen Deunida; and jueteng witness Sandra Cam.

Supporters of detained Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV sported Magdalo armbands.

ATTEMPTED CRIME

Binay asked the people to continue the campaign to hold accountable the Arroyo administration and officials involved in the mess.

“Siguro naman nakikita na natin ang kabulukan ng rehimeng ito. Panahon na para sama-sama tayong kumilos na labanan ang korapsyon sa ating lipunan,” Binay said.

Guingona said the time for Arroyo’s resignation is now, considering the widespread corruption in her administration.

He said even if the NBN project has been cancelled, there is still a case to be made and officials should answer the charges.

“Kung sa krimen may tina-tawag tayong attempted crime at consummated crime, dito bagama’t ito ay di natuloy papasok pa rin ito sa attempted crime,” he said.

BOILING POINT

Rep. Ocampo warned Malacañang of street protests could lead to a “boiling point” which could force the President out of office.

“The people’s enlightenment from the truth behind the multi-million dollar NBN-ZTE scandal, coupled with sustained street protests backed by the Church could slowly lead to the boiling point of isolation of this corrupt and morally bankrupt administration,” he said.

Ocampo reminded the President that resignation “remains a decent option for her to preserve any remaining respect for the presidency and for herself and her family.”

“She should not wait for the time that even resignation will no longer be an option,” he said.

Terry Ridon, student regent of the University of the Philippines, said the “P6 billion take in the ZTE-NBN scandal is equal to the annual budget of the entire UP.”

Raymond Palatino, chairman of the Kabataang Pinoy party-list group, condemned the police for allegedly stopping rally participants along the North and South Luzon Expressways.

Among the groups represented in the rally were Partido ng mga Manggagawa, Laban ng Masa, Concerned Citizens Group, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, Partido ng Masa, Akbayan, the United Church of Christ of the Philippines, Gloria Step Down Movement, Alab Katipunan, Be Not Afraid Movement, Bayan Muna, Filipino Democratic Movement, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Kilusan sa Pambansang Demokrasya, Sanlakas;

Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino, Anakbayan, Liga ng Manggagawa, Kadamay, Freedom from Debt Coalition, League of Filipino Students, November 29 Movement, Pamalakaya, Migrante, Alliance of Concerned Teachers, Karapatan, Student Christian Movement of the Philippines;

Peoples Movement Against Poverty, All UP-Workers Union, United Masses for Democracy, Sinag Bayan, Philippine Airlines Employees Union, National Labor Union and Lila Filipina. – With Raymond Africa and Wendell Vigilia

  1. Aside from Lozada, there’s still another vital witness that could finally nail down this tyrannical and abusive regime of GLueria [, as if Lozada’s testimony is not enough]. This is teased to us by Arch. Cruz in an interview at ANC’s Crossroad.

He was described as someone within the highest echelon of this government, much higher than Lozada himself, and knows every bit of the shady process by which gov’t projects underwent.

As to when this witness will come out, Cruz just replied with a smile,

    “At the proper time”.

Is he referring to ousted Speaker Jose De Venecia?

‘Kainis lang when some papers say last night still paled in comparison to EDSA I & II, forgetting that the first fw nights of EDSA I & II mas konti pa ang andoon! Just the same ang ganda ng crowd kagabi, di agad umalis, parang may gusto na talagang gawin at puntahan.

  4. That I’m not sure, but I guess JDV does not need any introduction from someone like Arch. Cruz. I could only guess it’s someone from the heart of this administration.

But whether this person would really come out, by Cruz’ body language, there’s a big possibility.

A snowballing of protest actions could help encourage this person’s coming out.

cha-cha, I respect your view about the rally as compared to those before. Don’t forget the rally was held in Makati na teritorio ni Binay at opposition. Mga apat yata ang napatay but this was not played so much in the media. Kasi at that time, kampi pa kay GMA ang mga giant media networks including ABS-CBN. Ngayon, puwede na. Obviously, ABS-CBN is pro-opposition today.

Let us appreciate the efforts of our brothers and sisters who braved the traffic, harrassment of asspweron’s men before they could reach Makati. These over 10000 strong citizens is just the nucleus of a brewing storm for the DOROBO. There will be more rallies to come. I hope that I will eventually be marching in one of these!

  8. parasabayan parasabayan

Off topic: Sinabi na nga ng Supeme Court na the media can now play the Garci Tapes but Malacanang says kakasuhan daw niya ang magpapatugtog ng mga ito. Sige nga, let all the 90 million play the tapes at tignan lang natin kung ano ang gagawin ni DOROBO! DARE!

  9. PSB: Let us appreciate the efforts of our brothers and sisters who braved the traffic, harrassment of asspweron’s men before they could reach Makati.

Sinabi mo pa. The number could have swollen to a million if there has been no deliberate attempt to stop them from coming as when Gloria Dorobo’s lackeys apparently on her order (You bet, Esperon, et al cannot detail all those soldiers and policemen at strategic positions to show their might and frighten the small people especially who can no longer risk their lives much more than what they are made to bear already!) order the checked and manhandled even when they do no wrong but shout, “GLORIA, RESIGN!” If that is not suppression of freedom of the press, what is?

Makati has in fact become a venue for freedom of this kind of assembly because Binay is the mayor there. Elsewhere, they are not allowed to march beyond the bridge going to Malacanang, not even I guess in San Juan, Erap’s territory!

If she really that confident that the people love her and that they are tired of these rallies and showing their so-called “people’s might and power,” then, why the containers from the Manila Pier, and why the electrification of the fence around the palac? Just who are Gloria and her tsimoys, especially Bunye, kidding?

  10. luzviminda luzviminda

  11. Will someone please post at youtube clips of the rally especially that part where my favorite lawyer, Harry Roque, and Elizabeth Oropesa sang the “Oust You!” song? Salamat! Best paki-email nga because I want to keep it in my file.

  12. luzviminda luzviminda

Napanood nyo ba yung sppech ni Gloria with the businessmen sa Makati nung morning?

I’m out of the country but almost ALL my relatives went. Sana po ay huwag tayo magsawa. And tama si cha-cha, I was there during EDSA I and II, mas kaunti naman talaga nung simula yun. Jun and his family will be there, and he will be giving a short “thank you” speech .It would mean a lot to him, to ACTUALLY see his supporters na nandoon. I know them personally, at sinabi ko po sa kanila ang support dito para kay Jun, at pina pa abot po nila that they are humbled and emboldened by your support, maraming salamat po sa mga taga Ellensville.

  14. Luz,

YEs, there’s indication that Neri would eventually “talk”, and this hinges on the SC decision on the matter. I think he is also praying that he be allowed to talk, as he was not the one who initiated in invoking executive privilege [it was DBM Andaya who prodded him to] in the first place.

It could be Neri or another one, but certainly not JDV.

  15. luzviminda luzviminda

Actually bago naman nagkaroon ng Edsa I ay may mga series of rallies na nangyari.

  17. “Sinabi mo pa. The number could have swollen to a million if there has been no deliberate attempt to stop them from coming as when Gloria Dorobo’s lackeys apparently on her order” – grizzy

The night before the rally I noticed around 2 to three checkpoints in different routes leading to Makati. Akala ko nga balik martial law years na may curfew etc. 🙂

    Sumpit,

Ang una niyang dapat gawin ay mag-resign. And then seek the help also of the La Salle Brothers (o kaya ay kung may Ateneo Brothers) maski na Ateneo High School alumnus siya.

  19. The government even has this response group or more accurately known as “anti-coup” force. Why would any government have an anti-coup group unless they expect to be so unpopular? I hate to be in the shoes of these people, living in dire fear of their own constituents.

  20. Luz,

    I’m intrigued by his one-liner,

“The Truth is a lot deeper than that.”

  21. SumPit,

My deepest fear is that if we really get to the whole truth, so many of our public and military officials will be exposed of complicity – baka kalahati na lang ang matira sa mga opisyal natin?

Sabi sa editorial ng The Daily Tribune on why Gloria skip the PMA Homecoming event:

“Talk making the rounds was that the alumni — or at least a group within the alumni — were prepared to greet Gloria with a manifesto of sorts that would impact negatively on her, plus staging some mild protest action against her, to get the military sentiments against her governance and her prostitution of the military across, the reason Gloria chose not to be in Baguio for the PMA rites.”

Hah!

  28. jugg:

That’s why we advocated for Systemic Change rather than just a change of personalities.

I personally prefer that there should be, among others:

    1. A Transition Government led by a Council of Leaders [of known integrity from academe, church, NGOs & students] which acts like the Executive; this is in fact the ideal set-up to avoid a one-man rule;

    2. Abolish the Lower House, but preserve the Senate for Legislative Purposes; this way we can save a lot, but can pass laws more efficiently. Investigative tasks should be done by NBI under direct control of the Senate. This is what check and balance really means.

The abolition of the Lower House would pave the way out of a divisive Tribal Mentality among different ethnic groups and the destructive “Padrino System” since Senators are elected at large.

    3. All members of the above branches of government shall come from LuzViMinda so that we can truly have a Unified Coherent Nationalist Agenda.

I have to agree, thats a step in the right direction. I’m behind you guys all the way. —-Please review my other posts. Sabi ko hindi lahat ng grupo ng opposition magkasundo at magkasama specifically the militant/poor groups and Civil Society composed of the elite. For your info, Ka Mentong has other business (I think food fanchising) aside from being a journalist.

Anyway, what’s needed is for OFWs or those who are residing abroad to do the same. I know you grizzy is doing a great job in Japan. But what about the rest in America and other parts of the world?

  35. Brownberry Brownberry

Correction: Food franchising. Grizzy, going back to what you said about Bayan and Akbayan, both are militant groups of course they were and are always together. What I pointed out was between the militants and civil society, the poor and the rich.

  36. bb,

Okay lang yung medyo buklod-buklod pa rin, ang importante we have one goal and everybody understands everybody. We can’t ask for perfection in life really, and political awareness is normally a very slow type of awakening. For me, being dynamic is a lot better than being static. We are all one in our dream of creating a better future for our children.

  37. Brownberry Brownberry

Ang wish ko lang talaga ang magkaisa ang opposition…be they be with the militant groups, Erap’s groups, Civil Society or business groups. Kaso hindi eh. I personally witnessed how they gathered among themselves. Now, how could we expect a united opposition and succeed in ousting GMA?

    SumpPit,

any talk of systemic change should be reconciled and tempered by the need to allow existing viable democratic institutions strengthen itself.

i loathe the House of Thieves, too, but a lot of them were honestly elected by their own constituents, thus i suggest we begin by pressuring Representa-thieves and Sena-tongs to surrender their pork barrel funds. that way, elections for legislative posts will start to attract mainly those who want to legislate laws— not flaunt.

do you know that Philippine presidents, past and present, when in office has broader powers, and unlimited options to dip into national coffers, compared to that of, say, the US president? or any other G-8 nation?

by the same basis, any talk of saving democratic institutions may fly, even fly-high with the people, only if it is geared towards CLIPPING and scale down the powers of any chief executive.

  40. But the rally yesterday proved them wrong. No doubt about that! Nakakabuhay ng pag-asa!

Wow! Nakakatuwa si Atty. Roque for example.

But then, let’s not give the Malacanang gossipmongers a reason to spread around that he is just trying to take advantage of this broadband scandal to build up his name and political ambition. I won’t buy that if I were you.

This de Venecia surely has proven that he is more his mother’s son! 3 cheers for the Pangalatoks!

  41. zen2 zen2

  43. An excerpt of my blog regarding the things that would likely happen unless we are united against this corrupt administration;

    Excerpt:

    Dark Army Rising

With Gloria’s continuing push for a zombie-like resurrection of Charter Change exposed several weeks ago, she has no choice but to admit “supporting” moves to rewrite the Constitution. As with all half-truths, we must also recognize the lie.

She said that she would not “spearhead” the Charter Change initiative; however, how many times in history does a general physically spearhead the attack of an army? A commanding general is nearly almost always at the rear or if in a forward position have a vanguard of crack bodyguards hacking a way through.

Beware of the twisted statement, while for most of us we can see the frontline of this Orcish horde led by Local Government Officials, rest assured that behind them issuing the orders is Emperor Palpakparin herself.

Of course the assertion of her Praetors that she is not interested in extending her term beyond 2010 is a flat faced lie. Not less a lie than Gloria a year or two ago was saying that Charter Change was “dead”. Her habit of lying then stabbing in the back is obviously showing.

Tactical movements toward the Charter Change objective have already started. JDV is out (though he is still self-deluded), Local Government orcs fired the opening salvo, and the latest is Gloria’s statement of “supporting moves” in rewriting the Constitution revealed by no less than herself to Reuters seal the devil’s pact…

I understand where you are coming from. I agree that these COngressmen where indeed honestly elected, but that does not necessarily mean they were intelligently voted on. But a lot of voters today don’t really know the relevant issues, or even realize the true power of that right to vote.

Worst of all, and as I said before, they were just made to choose between the Lesser Evil and the Worst Idiot.

So, the best formula I must argue, is to put in place a Revolutionary System whose primary task is to reorient the psyche of the Filipino.

But when I say the opposition is united, it’s the truth and I’m in no way dampening the spirit of everyone. The problem with some people who were not present at the place of action and yet they’re the ones making so much noise as if they were there. Have a nice day!

Correction: When I say the opposition is disunited (not united)…Ay naku, ano ba ang nangyayari sa iba dito? Pati mga kasama pinagdududahan ang layunin. Kanya-kanyang opinion iyan.

    zen2 Says:
“do you know that Philippine presidents, past and present, when in office has broader powers, and unlimited options to dip into national coffers, compared to that of, say, the US president? or any other G-8 nation?”

That’s very true. Philippine presidents are more powerful than any first world nation president or prime minister in national scale although not internationally. Not only in dipping in the coffers and if I may add, Philippine presidents have the bad habit of lording over the two co-equal branches of the government, so the co-equality and independence of the three branches is just hallucination. The justice department is the most often abused and used to harass and persecute political enemies while not very long time ago we saw how the legislative have been used by Gloria. Constitutional offices which are supposed to be independent are being used for their own political purposes. Best example is the Comollect. Constitution, the basic law of the land seems not to exist because they are being used as a doormat by the powers that be. They consider themselves above the law.

These are just a few of the powers of Philippine president which you will never see in the first world countries, The branches are independent and never interfere against one another That’s the reason why they belong to the first world because they know how to govern themselves humanly unlike the third world and those ruled by despots and dictators and like Gloria who doesn’t know how to
    “moderate her greed’.

  61. parasabayan parasabayan

Ang Supreme Court naman eh not so predictable but with the addition of two new appointees ni DOROBO, we can just expect the worse from them. The tongress is simply that, works for the DOROBO when the money is right!

In the first world countries, when the president or prime minister is caught dipping its fingers in the other branches of the government, malaking issue yun and it can be a reason for impeachment anytime.

Pidalism indicates that all branches governments eventually turn to aggression except the senate where the wannabe president maternity ward, to maintain the goodies for those in the lapdog system when the people can’t satisfy or moderate their greed. As they come to dominate societies, governments unleash mayhem kidnapping and murder.

Pidalism main stock in trade is coercion .Gloriarism exist, and grow, by creating bad guys, the likes of Abalos and Esperon, and using scare tactics to get money from the people to take care of this bad guys. Some of the bad guys are building mansion, playing golf and driving luxurious European cars.May tsinitas pa iyan,Bikitho and Friday Miditho.

It is obvious that those in the system feel threatened, and although they will— back off– for a short time, there is little doubt but that they will begin to try to shut off all threats to their power. They will begin to tighten the noose on the common people by passing crime control bills that are designed more to make sure they get theirs than to protect the dollar account and they will begin to wave the flag and demonize more and more hard working factory workers, ofw’s and dollar earners, and the more militant private citizen groups like Enteng Black and White,They will demonize avenues of public expression and try to control the speech of the people and handcuff Ellen whom they consider to be threats to the Pidalism government. Much worst oust the speaker at iburo ang mga Magdalo sa karsel including Lim at mga tauhan ni Querubin.

Let us hope that enough good citizens will work to make country once again, kasama ako, ikaw, sila at tayo together d’yan, a nation where life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and equal protection under the law, are not just for those in the Pidal sector.

71. Grizzy/Yuko, Harry Roque’s co-emcee is not Elizabeth Oropeza but Bibeth Orteza.

  72. Philippine presidents are conceived to be robbers and thieves. For all you know, when they come to Japan on a visit, I understand they are always cautioned about asking for Japanese aids unless they can present justificiation for such. Kung wala, shelved ang request for aid. Datirati, bigay lang bigay ng aid, but thanks to concerned citizens both in Japan and the Philippines, pinag-aaralan muna ang kanilang mga proposal, and I know officials of the agency in charge of our ODAs go there to investigate. Maingat ding hindi sila tumatanggap ng mga dinners and envelopes from the No. 1 Briber of the Philippines now.

Come to think of it, may bagong position pang na-create gaya noong position ni Medi-perencia who takes care of the envelopes and bags, what get into them, and to whom they have to be delivered.

Thank God for Ed Panlilio and Jun Lozada, hindi lang ngayon rumor kundi documented facts pa—naka tape by ng video.

Iyan ang inspired of God! Susmarya! Mabuti na sa wala, sabi nga! What counts is the action and spirit of those who were there and not there. Kahit na ba nandoon nga naman kung working naman for Gloria, not counted nga!

  73. Thanks for the correction, Ellen. Akala ko kasi Bibeth or Elizabeth isang name. Anyway, I mean the same person, iyong kasama ni Atty Roque sa kanta daw, unless there is another Elizabeth Oropesa.

When you get the clip, pakidistribute naman, puede?

  74. Oooops, Bibeth Orteza pala. Sorry, I’m not so familiar with personalities in fact in the Philippines. Ngayon pa lang nga ako nakakapanood ng mga Philippine movies because of my movie rental business. 83. For me, kasi, wala akong pakialam kung artista, or what, basta gumagawa ng matino.

The college degrees, in fact, are irrelevant sa akin iyan. It is just a title and/or diploma.

I never actually realized that until lately. I opted to do other jobs that I really enjoy and afford me a life of luxury and comfort. In fact, a lot of my friends with DPhil from Oxford are doing menial jobs. One or two in fact are working in Tokyo as teachers of English. Wala daw trabaho sa UK.

Kung ginagamit iyan ni Gloria Dorobo as her private secretary, and I tell you marami sila, she should pay him from her own pocket. In fact, dapat kinakasuhan iyan ng rumormongering resulting in chaos and confusion, and obstruciton of justice, peace and order. Krimen din iyan as a matter of fact.

  85. zen2 zen2

    SumpPit, and Grizzy,

there is indeed a serious problem in the point you have jointly raised, however, this alone or even coupled with other similar itchy sore-points; does amplify better the need for injecting life into our dying political institutions, than allowing an outright blanket authority from a handful of individuals to decide for us.

yes, i know for a fact that urban-based elites do their bidding in the rural areas comes every election time, fully aware that once elected (cheated their way through, if you like), the millions spent in the campaign is easily recoup with profit bursting at the seams to boot—in the form of perks and pork barrel funds.

but by closing the valve, doing away with pork barrel, the source of motivation to corrupt voters will significantly be lesser paving the way for inexpensive electoral exercise. and hopefully as a result, we’ll have legislators of better stuff.

this should NOT be taken as a dramatic turnaround, or a contradiction to my earlier support for a revolution, but a way of pooh-poohing talk of transition government sponsored by Makati-based business elites.

some sense of shame must accompany these businessmen and show remorse of their past felonious deeds by sponsoring a scenario of actively taking sides with the wishes of the people.

any design of transition government must come from a logical result of vast people’s democratic struggles and aspirations, rather than that of a handful few.

the country can ill afford, nor does not deserve, another Gloria, or another Emilio Aguinaldo in its midst.

  86. zen2 zen2

    florry,

thanks for the eloquent elaboration, a lovely read, too.

one of those worthy of saving, or even granting limited police powers is the Commission on Audit, supposedly an independent constitutional body, but now, on the whole a party to ongoing massive banditry.

a fine example worth emulating is Marlene Esperrat (RIP), a former COA rank and file member-turned- broadcaster/whistle-blower, among the first to expose then no. 2 top man in Agriculture Dept Joc-joc Boolate fertilizer scam in her home province of Sultan Kudarat.

high and mighty government officials were expected to send an investigation team as a result of her expose, but sent a 3-man liquidation squad instead to maim her. they fatally shot Marlene, before of her family. the killers, all gun-for-hire were arrested alright, but those who made the contract are still scot-free after anomalously cleared by a friendly inquest fiscal.

there are tens, maybe a hundred of other COA audit personnel who met the same ill-fate before her, and couple of others after; these in the face of others who deliberately choose to be blind with the crimes committed right under their noses.

what is important is for us to recognize these nuances, save those that are worthy, and punish those deserving of one.

That only means one thing. Malacanang has gotten word that some Cabinet officials are planning to attend the Mass which could potentially set off another chain of events leading to Arroyo’s impending downfall.

He’s long been a part of the Pidal Mafia. I hope our friend atty here gets to read this:

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry official Donald Dee had advised embattled former socioeconomics planning secretary Romulo Neri to avoid the Senate inquiry last September by going with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to New York.

This was revealed by Senate witness Rodolfo Noel Lozada in an interview with newspaper columnist Jarius Bondoc over dwIZ Saturday.

Lozada, resigned president and chief executive officer of the state-owned Philippine Forest Corp., also said that Deputy Executive Secretary Manuel Gaite gave him P500,000 so he could go to Hong Kong and dodge the Senate probe.

He said Dee, who is also a presidential adviser, allegedly told Neri that he (Neri) could ask for more than the P200 million he was offered to approve the national broadband network project with China’s ZTE Corp.

He also alleged that Dee had told Neri that he could even ask for and get the portfolio of finance secretary if he wanted to when the bribery and overpricing scandal broke.

Lozada, who has corroborated Neri’s earlier testimony before the Senate that the cancelled $329-million contract was overpriced, said he was in Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club when Dee gave those pieces of advice to Neri.

Neri had asked to be excused from an executive session with the senators after his public testimony during a 10-hour session blowing the whistle on resigned poll chief Benjamin Abalos as a key proponent of a loan agreement — instead of a build-operate-transfer scheme (BOT) — for the project.

He had promised to return to the Senate to reveal how the project turned from a BOT to a loan agreement almost overnight. But he has since turned down all invitations to go, even risking an order of arrest which he challenged before the Supreme Court.

  95. Brownberry Brownberry

Our good friend Nene Pimentel should clarify and explain further his agreement to Cha-Cha or else he would be misunderstood by the people as to supporting GMA government.
It’s hard for ordinary Filipinos to comprehend what Nene wants. Buti na lang hindi makikitid ang mga utak natin dito; but there would be some out there who may think that Nene is now jumping to the other side which of course I know he never will…

    Pimentel supports Cha-cha

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. Saturday said he welcomes the series of administration-sponsored campaigns to drum up support for fresh initiatives to amend the 1987 Constitution with the adoption of a federal system of government.

In a statement, Pimentel said the charter change activities being undertaken by local government executives will complement ongoing moves in Congress to propose a federal system to replace the existing highly centralized unitary system.

  96. Of course, the dorobo would want to stop listening to the Garci tapes so they can easily forget about them, but that should not be the case. COLMA — First Filipino mayor of Colma, Claro “Larry” Formalejo, has resigned from his position Wednesday, February 13, 2008 during a Town Council meeting due to family issues concerning his son’s DUI arrest leaving dozens of Colma resident in shock along with a bundle of unanswered questions.

It should be most obvious by now if we’ve learn anything from the past, bogus Gloria will not resign willingly. She should be forced instead, an offer she can’t refuse. We’ve beaten this subject of resignation to death for years, yet bogus Gloria still coming out smelling like roses all the time. Bogus Gloria’s long list of crimes against the people are well documented, so what more evidence would be required to force her out? It’s now the moment to walk the talk!

Kaso, imbes na magpasalamat, ipinalalabas pang sinungaling sila even when they have in fact risked not just their lives but even those of their families.

Enough is enough. Dapat nang ipakulong si Gloria Dorobo, her husband, kin and accomplices.

The Filipino people have the right to change their government and leaders through constitutional or unconstitutional means. About 70% Filipinos want Gloria Arroyo ousted. Public anger and frustrations have reached its end point. It’s time to act- ‘kumilos na bayan’. People’s uprising supported by police-military forces will end disgraced Arroyo regime. We don’t need the United Nations and other international organizations to interfere in our internal affairs.

  107. I’m also glad about yesterday’s turnout, it doesn’t really matter who went there, it really depends on what the objectives were and were they met or not. I don’t believe its a matter of checking each other out to see who’s more patriotic or more zealous, even in the midst of a huge crowd the individual has his own focus, his own motive. If we start looking around at each other we’ve missed the point already.
I’m glad that the younger generation was there, for they will most probably be our future leaders. They have seen how their elders have erred and will hopefully do a better job than we did.

  108. Krunck, thanks for the AP story in Arab news.

  109. DGK,

I agree, for the longest time I’ve been fighting with people who would rather have the country annexed to a foreign power as a better alternative to “being run like hell by Filipinos.” Unbelievable, some people still do not accept the concept of independence, of standing on your own two feet and taking on the challenges that come with it.
I always say to these people – get out of your parents’ house, get a job for pete’s sake!

  110. Whoa! Donald Dee has declared war on Lozada in Harapan!

  111. parasabayan parasabayan

  112. parasabayan parasabayan

Kaya pala always to the rescue kay DOROBO itong Donald “Duck” Dee , lublob din pala sa putik ang loko.

Sige pa, expose, expose, expose! Sana naman by March 5 eh ang Supreme Court will turn down the petition of Neri na hindi siya puwedeng magtestify sa senado. If the Supreme Court decides to bar Neri from testifying, alam na natin na ang Supreme Court ay hindi para sa ikabubuti ng bayan kundi, hawak sa leeg ni DOROBO ang karamihan ng mga justices!

  113. So hindi na SUPREME COURT dapat tawag dun kundi SUPREME COURT JESTER.

  114. Brownberry Brownberry

In other words, Dee was very much involved on behalf of Malacanang.

  115. luzviminda luzviminda

    BB,

The fact though that ZTE does not even want to appear in the Senate to air their side makes me believe that they are accessories to the bribery, over pricing etc…Ang takot lang ng dalawang Intsik sa ZTE dahil kapag nahuli silang gumagawa ng katiwalian, death by assassination ang abot nila! I hope that this fiasco will be one of those that will linger and will be be the reason to finally oust this DOROBO!

  117. Brownberry Brownberry

Siya yata ang President or Chairman of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

  118. Jug: I don’t believe its a matter of checking each other out to see who’s more patriotic or more zealous, even in the midst of a huge crowd the individual has his own focus, his own motive.
    *****

Sinabi mo pa, Jug. At sinong may sabing watak-watak sila? True, kaniya-kaniya sila ng diskarte, maybe, but it is evident they all share the same goal and objective–PATALSIKIN SI DOROBO! If that is not unity, what is?

Mabuhay ang mga nag-rally sa Makati! Tuloy-tuloy na! Walang urungan!

  119. Jug:

Ako din, I never actually understood what it was to feel proud and really love independence of one’s own country and really being proud I am part of it as its citizen/national until now.

Wala silang alam kundi hapon sila.

First time na narinig ko iyan napaiyak ako. By then, hindi na ako pilipino kasi!

Siyempre, I felt proud na may lahi akong pinoy. Kaya from then on, pag may nakita akong pilipino sa Tate, hidi ko ini-ingles kahit na inglesin ako. So what kung isipin na hindi ako marunong mag-ingles. Alam ko namang ang capacity ko sa pagsasalita ng ingles, maski nga ng Spanish, French at Japanese and a little Chinese (reading and writing pa nga). Kaya why should I feel guilty. And I am past the stupidity of thinking that English speakers are more intelligent than me! Kagaguhan talaga iyan! Language is used to be understood not for measuring IQs! 😛

  121. Valdemar Valdemar

The premature investigation directed by the president will solve all her problems. It will whitewash everything.

  122. Donald Dee getting on his high horse and challenging Lozada, probably meaning “Who the hell is he that I should even cast a glance at him let alone advice him?”

To be at that top post Chamber of Commerce prexy, Donald Duck, er Dee, did not get there, i.e., worthy enough to be made prexy, if he wasn’t an excellent businessman and to be an excellent businessman and reach a good level in Pinas, I mean very high level, he must have bribed his way all throughout.

I don’t believe any businessman in Pinas who gets to the top and end up big time in business didn’t things without having been corrupt as in having practised bribery. IMPOSSIBLE…

You can’t do big business in Pinas without at one time or the other having paid someone a bribe. Anybody who says the opposite is a liar!

In construction alone, many buildings in Makati for instance (am not questioning their technical prowess in constructions at all) have shortcircuited the process, i.e., permit, license, etc., etc., at one time or the other by paying bribe.

    And the list is endless.

  123. I REPEAT Big business in Pinas and by extension big businessmen, don’t get anywhere in Pinas without having paid a bribe or corrupted a government bureaucrat, official, authority at one time or another.

And Donald Dee cannot claim to be an exception. If he says he’s never done it, fine, accept it and then turn around and puke on his face.

    jugg:

That’s why we advocated for Systemic Change rather than just a change of personalities.

I personally prefer that there should be, among others:

    1. A Transition Government led by a Council of Leaders [of known integrity from academe, church, NGOs & students] which acts like the Executive; this is in fact the ideal set-up to avoid a one-man rule;

SO WHO WILL CHOOSE WHO TO LEAD? OUR OWN NATIONAL HERO LOATHED THE PARTICIPATION OF THE CHURCH IN MATTERS OF THE STATE. WHO ELECTED THOSE THAT ARE IN THE CHURCH? NOBODY. ARE THEY PILLARS OF MORALITY AND INCORRUPTIBILITY? NO. SO WHAT’S THEIR ROLE IN THIS SO CALLED COUNCIL OF LEADERS? WHO WILL HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE IF THEY DO F_CK UP? GOD?

    2. Abolish the Lower House, but preserve the Senate for Legislative Purposes; this way we can save a lot, but can pass laws more efficiently. Investigative tasks should be done by NBI under direct control of the Senate. This is what check and balance really means.

THE SENATORS HOLD NATIONAL POSITIONS, MOST ARE FROM NCR.BUT THE LOWER HOUSE REPRESENTS ALL THE PHILIPPINE REGIONS. MAS ALAM NG MGA CONGRESSMEN ANG SITWASYON AT PANGANGAILANGAN NG LAHAT. SO ARE YOU SAYING THAT WE SHOULD FORSAKE THE VOICE OF THE MANY FOR THE VOICE OF THE FEW? IS THIS WHAT YOU CALL DEMOCRACY ?

The abolition of the Lower House would pave the way out of a divisive Tribal Mentality among different ethnic groups and the destructive “Padrino System” since Senators are elected at large.

WE CANNOT JUST REMOVE OUR TRIBAL MENTALITY. UNTIL THIS DAY, WE REMAIN SEPARATED BY CULTURE, LANGUAGE AND GEOGRAPHY. WHAT IS BEST SUITED FOR US IS A FEDERAL FORM OF GOVT.

    3. All members of the above branches of government shall come from LuzViMinda so that we can truly have a Unified Coherent Nationalist Agenda.

    ANY AGENDA IS USELSESS.

WHAT WE NEED IS SOCIAL CHANGE AND POLITICAL MATURITY.

MARCOS HAD THE RIGHT THING GOING WITH HIS “BAGONG LIPUNAN” – UNTIL IT WAS CORRUPTED BY IMELDIFIC.

SOCIAL CHANGE AND POLITICAL MATURITY CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH STRENGTHENING OUR INSTITUTIONS.

  129. SOCIAL CHANGE AND POLITICAL MATURITY CAN BE ACHIEVED THROUGH STRENGTHENING OUR INSTITUTIONS.

    Agree 100%!

Question: Who’s destroying the institutions? Those who cry “GMA Resign!” or those who equate the present crop of leaders to the institutions they “represent”?

The continuing (and snowballing) call for Aling Gloria’s resignation, to my best recollection, did not come with the demand to abolish the institutions. I have yet to hear a call for the abolition of the presidency.

If people have grievances against those who are in government, would one call it “political maturity” if they remained quiet and simply “moved on”? If keeping my mouth shut and simply moving on is political maturity, let me then stay an infant all through time.

  130. zen2 zen2

don’t be fooled by this great ‘class divide’ argument invoked by some (referring to Tsinoys), who chose to lap it up in favor of Gloria, as in the case of Donald Dee of PCCI.

there is something biologically diabolical in this affair; elder sibling, Dewey Go Dee, in 1981, absconded between 700 to 800 million pesos with banks, including GFI’s, triggering a serious financial crisis.

he accumulated those unsecured loans by emphasizing a trump card— his friendship with Marcos.

fled to Canada he did, but in 2004, the Office of Special Prosecutor chief Dennis Villa Ignacio averred to open the case and pursue extradition proceedings/request with the Canadian govt. for him, together with another big-time scammer, Faustino Chingkoe.

nothing has been heard of the case ever since.

the elder one, is a Marcos crony. well, the younger sibling, loves to sing praises for Gloria.

    nasa lahi….

I was at the Makati rally with parasamasarap and we vented our sentiments. It was a great feeling.

Pero what happened in Makati and in LSGH is a start. Hindi pa tapos ang boksing, so don’t count us out yet, Happy Gilmore.

  132. happy gilmore happy gilmore

    it is TOO LATE.

had this same intensity been hatched sometime in 2003, it wouldve gotten some respectable results.

    why is it too late?

it takes at least a year and a half to prepare the funds and the infrastructure to run for a national position.

so ngayon pa lang – kitang kita na natin ang pangangampanya, however subtle it is.

one cannot fight a battle on too many fronts.

You so deserve it!

  137. Tilamsik Tilamsik

The word “DEMON” is stated in the entire Holy Scripture/The Holy Bible in 48 times. jesus Christ was tempted by demon hence Christ fasted for 40 days and nights and never subdued.

my 14-year old niece called my attention to the above, saying: “double negative construction would mean positive. ayaw ko din po kay GMA!”

she is right, of course. it should have read, thus:

…the country can ill afford, and does not deserve another Gloria nor another Emilio Aguinaldo in its midst.

how sure are you that the bible we have now are the REAL words of GOD? the existing bible has books that was CENSORED by the early church – over a hundred Gospels exist, from Judas to Mary Magdalene. Since the split of early Christianity with Judaism, only books that moves away from traditional Judaism were included in the bible.

read your history matey, the church has its share of skeletons in its closets.
