Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez has been declared as “persona non grata” by the Press Photographers of the Philippines following his media advisory that stated journalists may incur criminal liability should they fail to heed the order of authorities during emergency situations.
“We cry foul! We vehemently denounce such statement! And we declared Sec. Raul Gonzalez ‘persona non grata’,” said the PPP in a statement.
The group maintained that the handcuffing and detention of members of the media during the Manila Peninsula hotel incident was already a violation of the principles of democracy.
However, instead of correcting the mistake, Gonzalez even issued a media advisory warning that if faced with the same situation, authorities would still arrest members of the media who do not follow the order of authorized government personnel.
“Since the Manila Peninsula Hotel incident where members of the media were handcuffed and interrogated while in the performance of their duties – we have been asking ourselves: Where is freedom of the press in a supposedly democratic country such ours? Is the telling the truth and informing the public now a crime? Is detaining members of media constitutional?” the group said.
The PPP called on all of its members, colleagues, writers and newspaper editors to boycott press conferences held by Gonzalez.
“We call on photojournalists to remove/crop his photo in group pictures and/or not to mention his name in captions,” the group added.
They added: “This is the stand of the PPP. This is our way of saying that we will never be stopped in performing our duty – giving the public the right to know the truth.”
For his part, Gonzalez said he will ban members of the press photographers from the Department of Justice. With a report from RG Cruz and TV Patrol World

Aside from siRAULo, maybe the press should boycott Gloria, Esperon, DILG Puno & PNP Barias – they are so publicity hungry that it would be a great loss to them if they do not come out in the papers, TV or radio. These idiots have the govt channels, radios as well as pro-Gloria media outfits to come out to if they are desperate anyways. The problem lang nga is that nobody will watch, hear or read them in those media outfits, except of course for TONGRESSmen & lap dogs !

The Press Photographers of the Philippines (PPP) should also boycott Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye and AFP spokesperson Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro. Their press releases are full of lies and half-truths. It’s not worth for printing and hazardous to the public mind.

Even if siRaulo has his own photographer, kung hindi ilalabas ng newspapers at telebisyon ang kanyang pagmumukha ay wala siyang magagawa.
Problema lang ay iyong mga bayaran at diaryo ni Gloria, siguradong lalabas duon ang mukhang hukluban. OK lang basta malaking kabawasan sa kanya kung hindi siya lalabas sa ibang malalaking diaryo at tabloids na binabasa ng nakararaming tao.

Chi, allow me to clarify ng kaunti…I said Raul has his own photographer…not for the press but for his family. Family photographer iyon na nag-aasikaso ng mga litrato ng pamilya niya para ilagay sa mga album. Sila-sila din ang tumitingin ng kanilang mga album tapos sabay tawa. Tuwang-tuwa siya kapag nakikita niya ang litrato niya sa album.

The fact that his photos found their way in previous frontpages of Manila broadsheets only fuel my personal speculation that there is nothing truly newsworthy to report about. His antics do deserve print spaces- pang showbiz section nga lang.

Ako nga, BB, narimarim when I was told how much it gets to get published ini Philippine newspapers. I worked as a special correspondent for a Philippine newspaper in the 70’s and 80’s. When I asked for a raise, sinabihan pa ako ng editor ko na magpasalamat ako kahit I was being paid for my articles. Many of the reporters he said would pay the newspaper to get their articles (actually ads) on some politicians published. Shocked ako! Never heard of such thing in Japan.
