Estrada should take precautions

It may not be true but there’s no harm for former President Joseph Estrada to tighten his security when going to around especially in his visits to depressed areas.

We got from several sources that a group is planning to do a “Benazir Bhutto” on him.

As we all know, former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated while addressing a rally in the city of Rawalpindi last Dec. 27. Bhutto was challenging the beleaguered leadership of President Pervez Musharraf.

Our sources said although it cannot be ruled out that groups who are out to sabotage the Arroyo administration may just be thinking of assassinating Estrada as a trigger to create chaos, the people who he said are seriously thinking of it belong to a group identified with the administration.

Since his release from six years of confinement after he was granted absolute pardon by Arroyo, Estrada has been going around depressed areas mobbed by devoted supporters. He has floated the idea of running for president in 2010.

The source said the group targeting Estrada expects disarray to follow any attempt on the life of the former president which would be the perfect excuse to declare a state of emergency or martial law. “They want things to come to a head so they can finish off Trillanes and his Magdalo group and other anti-administration groups in the military,” the source said.

The source said Arroyo and her security officials know that although in the Nov. 29 standoff at the Manila Pen Trillanes and Brig. Gen. Danny Lim did not get open support from other members of the armed forces, they suspect that there were sympathizers who were waiting for the right timing to come out.

The Center for People Empowerment in Governance, made this observation of the Nov. 29 incident: “Assuming that the main objective of the Makati siege was to create a political noise that would resonate throughout the country and outside, its leaders succeeded. If it was meant to trigger yet another people power revolt against the Arroyo rule, it failed. Just the same, it left a message – of a regime that is despicable, and of an increasing number of people poised to challenge it no matter the risk to their lives.”

The source said: “They want to flush out those they feel are not on their side.” The timetable for it is “first quarter of this year.” Another first quarter storm?

In our political history, January and February are dangerous months. Ferdinand Marcos fell from power, which he held for more than two decades, on February 24, 1986. Joseph Estrada was ousted from the presidency on January 21, 2001, three years and four months short of his elected tenure of office.

Two years ago, Gloria Arroyo issued Proclamation 1017 to save her presidency, raided the Tribune and arrested a number of military officials and civilian critics to quell the restiveness that followed the exposé of the Hello Garci tapes that revealed her lead role in tampering the results of the 2004 elections in her favor.

The past few days, without giving specifics, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, AFP chief Hermogenes Esperon and PNP chief Avelino Razon warned of another destabilization activity.

Estrada better be very careful.

If you have read my previous posts, I have long reminded and warned Erap to be very careful now that he’s a free man.

We have heard of so many suspects killed by the cops allegedly because they attempted to grab the cop’s gun or were trying to run or escape. Mas madaliin yariin kapag nasa labas ng kulungan.

Who shall benefit from Erap’s assassination and death. Marami…kahit na sa opposition. Foremost is from the Administration and this GMA who’s afraid of Erap’s popularity and political threats. Habang nandiyan si Erap, mahirap silang dumiskarte. Ang opposition naman…maraming may ambition sa 2010. Eliminating Erap would give them the chance to occupy the highest position of the land in 2010. If something bad happens to Erap, these opposition candidates would take advantage of people’s anger. Don’t discount US-CIA that’s willing to work with any group to protect her own interest. In other words, maraming tao at grupo ang makikinabang sa pagkamatay ni Erap. Mark my word…it will be 10 times worse than Ninoy’s assassination.

Erap succeeded in going around Metro Manila perhaps due to better security and love by the poor people. Maaari din masyadong maaga pa siyang itumba at halata. But when he starts going around the country and travel to the provinces, iyan ang delikado. Is the government willing to provide him with the best security? As of now, Erap’s security detail is a token one.

This thread and topic is very timely. It comes at a time when popular figures like Bhutto are being assassinated. Let’s hope and pray it doesn’t happen to Erap. At 70, marami pa siyang magagawa sa bayan. May God bless him !

    BB,

I agree with you! I do believe that some of Erap’s enemies are worried now about his popularity and charisma sa Masang Pilipino.

Probably before 2010, something going to happen sa haybol ni Pres. Erap pag di siya nag-ingat. Wag siyang pakatiwa kay GMA/TABAKO and co.; sa ibang taga-oposisyon coz’some of them are identified na nagpabagsak sa kanyang administrayon.

We cannot separate the US’s intention and activities from the current political events in the Philippines.

At first, they showed the video that Iranian was provoking the US Navy. In fact, there was a friendly communication between the Iranian Navy and US Navy per SOP. It’s America’s word against Iranian’s. Given the very poor credibility the US has and her warlike posture, mas naniniwala ako sa Iran. Why is Bush now touring the Mideast? Why did he go to Israel igniting the hearts of the Israelites against Iran? First Iraq, Afghanistan then Iran. The US wants to control the Mideast…para no? OIL.

  5. erap assasination scenario is not at all a remote possibility. But who will strike the trigger? what will be the motive? who would benefit more in making erap a hero in the likeness of ninoy’s assasination?

    Here’s the theory.
who will strike: “group” associated with the Arroyo admin
motive: political unrest as perfect excuse to proclaim martial law
benefits: government’s chance to terminate Trillanes, the Magdalo and anti-admin groups in the military

This is a good movie plot. Yes, it invites controversies. The more it becomes controversial, the more it becomes profitable. This plot is a fiction trying to become real in the minds of the “fans”.

The theory of January-February fever sending a chilling message to the Administration is based on the assumption that there are unidentified huge numbers of military sympathizers waiting to come out at the right time to end this despicable and morally bankrupt administration.

The Oakwood and Pen revolts did not materialize this huge number of agitated military groups who are willing to risk their lives to end this corrupt administration. This failure explains itself why the Magdalo group is considered relatively a small fraction within the AFP. AFP is determined to crushed this small fraction because Military’s chain of command is sacred.

    (to be continued)

Contingency, what you mentioned were just a reiteration of what I have said. What Erap badly needs now is contingency plans to counter such evil moves. Remember he’s no longer the President.

  7. Brownberry Brownberry

Also, what’s needed is something to ignite and spark…then hell breaks! This something could be Erap’s assassination. GMA could declare state of emergency thereby prolonging her stay beyond 2010. The opposition would rally behind the people against the government for Erap’s death. The government enemies would join the fray to achieve their long goal of toppling the government (regardless of who the President is). The US would come in and be the good guy again. Erap might turn out to be the sacrificial lamb for all groups that have their own agenda and interest. Poor Erap…

  8. Brownberry Brownberry

The past few days, without giving specifics, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, AFP chief Hermogenes Esperon and PNP chief Avelino Razon warned of another destabilization activity.

    Estrada better be very careful.

—-Why was Defense Secretary Teodoro being invited to the US?
Please remember…even though some would disagree…that the US often if not always has a hand in removing, installing and eliminating leaders or potential leaders of third world countries.

  9. There is no real threat from Magdalo. The January-February fever has no roots — there are no “silent majority” in the military because only a few will risk their lives to end Gloria’s reign. Some of them may be willing to risk their own lives but not the future and well-being of their families.

This is why some accepted the government’s offer for reconciliation. Some of these soldiers may still have their sympathy with the Magdalo, and have close contact with the core leaders and some civilian sympathizers but they do not make significant contribution to their equally “paralized” leaders.

Now if erap should be sacrificed, it is more likely that the fugitive Magdalo members will strike the trigger. Motive? Well, there is wisdom in adding gasoline to the burning house. In the absence of mass military support, the outburst of the masses, particularly the poor of erap, will add power to the Magdalo revolts.

It is unthinakble why should the Arroyo group rock the boat when it badly need to sustain the status quo.

The opposition group will not kill the hen that lays golden eggs for their economic and political needs.

The theory that erap will run for president curtailing the ambition of new would-be presidents is weak. Erap cannot run again see fr bernas commentary in pdi. He is not a threat, but his money and political machineries will make a difference in 2010.

US motive? This is interesting… worth reflecting.

  10. Brownberry, I have yet read your comment (I read balweg’s) when I started writing my comment. Hirap kasi mag-post.

  11. Do you know that Bhutto’s husband has been known as the 10 percent guy when his wife was in power? Same with GMA’s Mike.

BB, add “NOT”–di ko pa kasi nabasa yong comment mo ng nagsulat ako.

  12. US intervention in the Philippines cannot die a natural death — as long as its interest is secured and protective by its allied countries in the pacific rim.

GMA exploited this US concern hoping to gain support in kind and place our country in the front as active player in the war of terror, as if our military and police can truly protect our people from terrorists.

The tactic of divide and rule is still an effective means of control. If US has interest in killing erap, what would this interest be?

  13. Brownberry Brownberry

Kidding aside, I was the first if not among the first to warn Erap in this forum after his pardon. I’m thankful that Ellen now came up with the topic. Supporting Erap is just incidental.

  14. Let me clarify this statement “Some of them (Military) may be willing to risk their own lives but not the future and well-being of their families” within the context of the failed two coup attempts of the Magdalo. These “imaginary” or “factual” silent majority simply failed to surface during the Oakwood and Pen revolts. I am not undermining the capacity of the military to sacrifice self and family for the love of country. Thanks.

Sorry, folks, I can’t post in the thread where ASIII, Tongue and I are hotly talking about FVR and Erap on economy. (Ellen, what’s wrong with your blog?) So I transfer here.

ASIII said: “saka what failing economy are you talking about? kung negative ang growth rate, like what happened in the early 1980s, yun ang failing economy!”

Teka teka, I don’t remember saying FAILING. What I said was “ailing.” Bakit nagkaroon ng “f.” Paki review nga ang posts ko, please? Parang comelec na dagdag-bawas (no offense meant).

(HG:”Gloria’s recent power privatization scheme is a last-ditch attempt to salvage an ailing economy pushed down to the abyss by FVR.)

What I also meant was FALLING, and both are kilometrically different from FAILING.

(HG:”The fact is, the economy was clearly and surely sliding down under FVR, after a sudden spike in the mid 1990s. But by the time Erap came, the claim about RP becoming another “tiger” in SEA went pooooof! Naging KUTING, sabi ni Mrivera.)

Yes, you’re right, a negative growth like that in the post-Ninoy murder was FAILING. No doubt about it. That became an added challenge to the inexperienced Cory, which made the economy during her time look very “sick.”

“and since you are inclined to citing figures, paki-cite na rin ang GDP from 1992 up to 2006, and let us see what years were the biggest in the group, and who was the president during those years. let me assure you – you wouldn’t like what you’ll see.”

Tongue had kindly obliged before I read your post. Erap turned the economy around (GDP-wise) in his limited term of office. Don’t you like it?

“it seems that on purpose you started with 1996, to show a decline.”

Ah, come on ASIII you’re better than that. That’s why I gave the link to ADB, because those are the only data covered. Nothing malicious there. You conveniently forgot that I promised to look for those other years. (Now I don’t need to do as Tongue already showed them.)

“if you are in the IPP business, and you said the tabako entered into deals unfavorable to the government, then maybe ill believe you.”

I admit, I’m not. So you’re correct there. Again, Tongue said something on this. Please re-read it.

But then again, you’ve admitted its harmful effect on the economy by your own posting (“masamang epekto ng IPPs? tama ka, ngayon pa lang nakita, after more than a decade. you know why? di akalain ni Tabako na maso-solve ang power crisis quickly, na-solve yun earlier than expected. pero, committed pa rin ang Napocor to buy power from the IPP kahit di na ito kailangan.”) So, that’s a non-debate for us. It’s now closed.

Know what, ASIII, I begin to like your arguments. Cool ka! You’re unlike the other bloggers who resort to name calling when cornered, pinned down, or have run out of ideas. Let’s keep blogging!

Contingency, what those soldiers said was true. They are willing to risk their own lives but not their families. But why? If they are assigned in the south to fight against the rebels or sent abroad to fight the enemies, are the lives of their families and future sacrificed? What more when they are fighting against the Number One Enemy of the nation….GMA. I don’t buy that. Why can’t they be like those suicide bombers or soldiers who are willing to die for their cause? Maybe some would argue and tell me…it’s easier said than done. But you see, there comes a time when one must sacrifice everything for the country. Hindi naman laging dumarating ang ganyang pagkakataon.

  17. Brownberry Brownberry

The tactic of divide and rule is still an effective means of control. If US has interest in killing erap, what would this interest be?

You asked the above, right Contingency? It’s the usual business and military interest in the region, the Pacific. The Philippines is America’s first line of defense in the Pacific. The US needs a friendly leader like GMA. Not just friendly but someone who can kiss and lick Uncle Sam’s ass. The US doesn’t see that in Erap. So before he even attempts to run again in 2010, why not eliminate him?

  18. Brownberry Brownberry

Hawaiianguy, are you based in Hawaii? If Obama wins, I bet you he will not win the presidency? The reason is simple…America is not prepared or won’t allow a minority to be the President. Obama won’t even be allowed to win as Vice President. We must realize that the whites still control the US and government. The KKK and the white supremacists are still around and alive. Maybe in the next century when the American majority is colored.

It’s the only avenue left for her to perpetuate in power because Chacha is already dead in the water long time ago.

  20. Valdemar Valdemar

Like the CIA, any one or group can surgically pick off any target no matter how walled in. Mga Pilipino pa naman, just give them a cal. 45, a motorcycle and a few pesos and come back with kingdom come. Trained military and swats do it with finesse. And at the right time. Its not yet time with Erap. The CIA, or Counter Intelligence of Arroyo will decide when and where for more effect.

  21. chi chi

Who will benefit from Erap’s ma-Bhutto?!

Gloria… if martial law is declared and Asspweron is ready to shoot at Erap’s masa!

  22. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

BB: yup, nasa hawaii ako based.

  23. chi chi

Why are they so afraid of Erap running for the presidency again?

Let him and others run…sabayan at nang makita natin kung meron pa siyang ibubuga! That’s democracy. Ilaban si Kabayad Noli, Loren loren sinta, Money Villar, Little Dick Gordon, Ping Lacson atbp.!

  25. chi chi

    HW,

That’s my point. Why is this Reyna Tarantada always in panic mode when Erap speaks?

Meron kasabihan that “a person who is incapable of loving should be loved”.

  26. Isagani Isagani

Erap is 70 years old. Not that old not to run for president again, if allowed. Ronald Reagan when he ran for the presidency in the US and John Mcain now a candidate in the Republican ticket, are about the same age.

Chances are, and the reason why Gloria is scared of him, he will win in 2010, if he runs.

IMO, Erap will not make a good president. He is not cut out to be one. He is more of a Barkada personality. He is a nice guy, but that does not qualify him to be president.

Just like before, let us hope that he does not get suckered by Gloria again. He can be Glorias best excuse to do a Macoy act.

RE: “They want things to come to a head so they can finish off Trillanes and his Magdalo group and other anti-administration groups in the military,”

Maybe the AFP is working out these things.. a demolition job against TRILLANES.. maybe they will attempt to “bribe” those who had been freed last December 20.. by offering “something” just to betray Trillanes and Magdalo.. “Keep on DREAMING, MGA TUTA NI ARROYO.. Now, they are saying that 10 out of 53 is involved in another destabilization plot.. Maybe they are pointing out those 10 who visited Trillanes after being freed? PARANOID..

  28. rose rose

Kawawang Erap..ang buhay niya ngayon ay pahirap ng pahirap..malaya nga siya pero he is now a slave of circumstances..Who will pull the trigger? Abangan na lang natin ang susunod na chapter..the plot gets to be exciting..
..Obama was received here in JC with great enthusiasm by the youth ..bakit hindi siya puedeng magpresidente? because he is black? why should only the white guys have fun? they already have the funds…but there was a sad note though about the rally yesterday..Bobby Jackson, a former council president here in JC died of a heart attack right after the rally sa St. Peter’s College..he was 62 years old..wari ko nagalak siyang masiado sa pagtangap ng mga kabataan kay Barack. St. Peter’s College is the only Jesuit college here in New Jersey.. Medical Center where he was taken is just a few blocks from SPC pero hindi umabot..ang daming tao at mahigpit ang security..pero exciting.

Masaya ito..ang kaklase ni Bill ay naging presidente at paghindi nasunod ang gusto naglulupasay…ang asawa ni Bill ay gusto magpresidente at pag hindi makuha ang gusto ay iiyak! ang sabi nga the best weapon of a woman is to cry..it works believe me..makukuha sa iyak ang gusto!

  30. Brownberry Brownberry

If to cry is the best weapon of a woman, Hilary should have always cried so Bill wouldn’t cheat her.

  31. chi chi

    Rebelfiancee,

“Now, they are saying that 10 out of 53 is involved in another destabilization plot.. Maybe they are pointing out those 10 who visited Trillanes after being freed? PARANOID..”

Asspweron is also scared to name the 10! Hahahaha! Walang maituro ang mga ungas!

Yup, you’re right, they just have to keep on dreaming if they think that the Magdalo participants at the Pen incident will betray their brother!

  32. They must be paranoid indeed. The best thing the Magdalo can do is to wait out the next two years, after 2010 the political landscape will have changed already, there might be a chance for them to return to unit (RTU) and go on with their careers. As for the EPs that were dismissed earlier, its a shame really.
Kaya nilang tiisin ang dalawang taon, in the meantime, we on the outside must keep the pressure on Gloria.

  33. These words are very appropriate for Ellen and the media people like her:

On one of the long corridors of Harvard University are carved in granite the words of Archibald Macleish:

How shall freedom be defended? By arms when it is attacked by arms; by truth when it is attacked by lies; by democratic faith when it is attacked by authoritarian dogma. Always, and in the final act, by determination and faith.

  34. The reason why the administration will be concerned about what Erap stands for above the rest is quoted by Ronald Roy in his Daily Tribune article, which in part says “let me make one point clear. The only way to resuscitate our democracy is to suspend the Constitution, and the only way to suspend the fundamental law is to allow a revolutionary council to seize control of government. And my choice for Chairman of this council is former President Erap Estrada because among all the aspirants, it is only Erap who has brought to the fore the only real issue that counts in the matter of who our next leader should be, collective of individual, namely: the economy, specifically that of the impoverished masses.”
Erap’s safety is never been more important.

  35. Re: “Gen. Danny Lim did not get open support from other members of the armed forces, they suspect that there were sympathizers who were waiting for the right timing to come out.”

But of course! One doesn’t need a crystal ball to know that BGen Lim, Col Querubin as well as the other military officers who CANNOT stomach Gloria’s misrule corruption will always have sympathizers.

Gloria (and her bunch of criminals) should consider themselves EXTREMELY LUCKY that friends and colleagues of these officers are still respectful of certain military traditions rightly or wrongly (chain of command) and have not thrown grenades her way.

Gloria must not think that members of military have no brain; many might not be courageous or brave enough to openly challenge this government but doesn’t mean that they are dim witted.

She must contend with having to live the remaining 2 years or so of her stolen rule with the thought that it takes but ONE bold member of the military to put her down (just like one puts a dog down.)

  36. Re: “may just be thinking of assassinating Estrada as a trigger to create chaos, the people who he said are seriously thinking of it belong to a group identified with the administration.”

Ellen, seriously, is there a possibility, remote or not that the source of this alert who are saying that “the people who he said are seriously thinking of it belong to a group identified with the administration” may perhaps be purposely feeding the public the seeds of so-called “chaos” in order to provoke and use it for Gloria, either to extend Esperon (since he’s her guardian angel and trusted police dog) or for her to announce loud and clear:

“Ayan, declare ko na ang emergency rule kasi baka madale si Erap…”

    (Shades of Goebbels!)

  37. rose rose

si goria is determined and she believes that kaya niya paikutin ang mga tao..kaya by hook or by crook manatili siya
    sa upuan niya..nakacemento pa.
bb: kaya hindi umiiyak si Hillary noon kasi si Bill lang naman ang iiyakan niya at walang paki naman yong isa..ang iniiyak niya ngayon ay ang opportunity to make history..the first woman president..mas mahalaga yon kaysa kay Bill..power and greed. mas importante yon..history..tingnan mo si goria..the most corrupt pero history yon..maalala ng mga tao..

  38. So Gloria is launching DESTABILIZE ME. Problem is, nobody will buy it.

  39. I pray that they don’t stage BOMB MEs or AMBUSH MEs, they may not think twice of collateral damage, but what about the families of the would-be victims?

Chi/Hawaiianguy: Kumusta long time no hear ah! Well, tuloy ang ligaya sa Ellenville community.

I missed your comments/point of views, Erap’s magic still working and kicking….why they are afraid to Erap? Not only GMA and co. but also some reformed oppositionists who are wondering now if he will run again in 2010.

I do believe he’ll not run again, but instead he will choose and support who is capable to become a President to be. Those who aspires to run for President in 2010 are now courting Erap and to seek his help to be standard candidate of the opposition block.

    Maraming pwedeng pagpilian,sa hanay ng:

A demolition job on Trillanes? What for? He’s doing a great job all by himself. Ah! Truly is it said that YOUTH is wasted on the Young.

DJBrizalist: RE: A demolition job on Trillanes? What for? He’s doing a great job all by himself. Ah! Truly is it said that YOUTH is wasted on the Young.

Maitanong ko lang Pards! How old are you now? Do you know that Pinoy like AT4 and other loving Pinoys isinakripisyo ang career at pamilya alang-alang sa ating Inang Bayan.

I guess na isa kang Rizalista, and do you know what Rizalist loyalty and mission sa ating Bansang Pilipinas? I know the vision and mission ng inyong grupo and I highly respected Dr. Jose Rizal as you worship him as God’s choosen one for our country sake.

Well like AT4 and co. who loves our country most the same with Dr. J.Rizal during his era. Nagkataon lang na nabuhay sila sa magkaibang panahon, but their objectives eh the same issues.

Di ba Pinoy ang bumaril kay Dr. J.Rizal not the Spanish suldado.

  45. balweg balweg

DJBRizalist: ASSASSINATION is the NPA’s main occupation. Just like the Neo Taliban Al Qaida who did Benazir Bhutto in.

A nice comments, but do you think this is acceptable sa mga Pinoy na NPA?

Why the gov’t legalized the CPP/NDF as a legal party and still they suppressed their legitimate action against corrupt leaders in our country. Nasaan ang DOJ to convict them and put to jail, WALA ang pinuprotektahan lang ng DOJ eh yong mga corrupt gov’t officials and politicians.

  46. Hopefully, Sen. Trillanes will be doing okay, so far no one is denouncing him except Esperon et al. Most sympathize with him but not necessarily with his method. In fact, some ranking police officials (not Barias) would rather see him be allowed to function fully as a senator, allow him to conduct (with full support) investigations on the issues he brought forward, nothing wrong with that. Of course they will not openly say this in public. But like it or not, a lot of people are rooting for him.

  47. balweg,

I believe DJB is a former NPA cadre. Aminin.

  48. balweg balweg

Jaggernaut: Ikaw ha! Totoo ba yon DJB?

  49. balweg,
Lets wait for DJB’s response. Alam ko neocons are former leftists, and if my intel sources are not mistaken, they will be in the general vicinity.

  50. balweg balweg

Pahirit uli DJB may nakaligtaan ako eh! RE: Just like the Neo Taliban Al Qaida who did Benazir Bhutto in.

  51. So far, whenever there are high profile assasinations, fingers point to the government : Plaza Miranda bombing, Ninoy Aquino, Enrile’s ambush me, etc. NPAs mostly kill their own in purges or suspected double agents.

  52. …and does the NPA have any beef with Estrada, uunahin muna nila si Palparan siguro?

  53. balweg,
Tama ka about the NPA, they started out as a group asking for reforms, denouncing inequity, injustice, to the point of attacking US intervention in the Philippines (Joma Sison’s speech in PMA circa 1966). Unfortunately, the movement developed into armed struggle, perhaps because of desperation already, probably even self defense.
What people must understand is that Sen. Trillanes, Gen. Lim and the Tanay prisoners are not for armed struggle and never were, unlike Gringo before. Esperon and this administration, along with some sympathizers (mostly US presence in the Phils.) are doing their damndest best to paint them as such.
Why there is no genuine dialogues with intent to resolve these parallel armies once and for all, escapes me. Its obvious that the protracted war is not yielding any positive results.

  54. balweg balweg

Anyway, my point here is, kung kailan nagkaroon tayo ng mga opisyal na seriosong ilabas ang katotohanan, kinicrucify pa sila.

  57. klingon klingon

Assuming that the NPA’s main occupation is assasination, it would not follow that all assasinations and attempts thereto would be NPA. At the same time, terrorism is not the sole occupation of insurgents. Sometimes the government does it too. Anybody remember the Davao bombings?

  58. klingon klingon

“not the sole province of insurgents” Hay, typo!

  59. Jug,

    Re Plaza Miranda bombing

In my understanding, for a long time Marcos was accused of the Plaza Miranda bombing; it appeared later on that the bombing was committed on orders of Joma Sison.

Defector twice over MGen Victor Corpuz, said that it was the NPA that did it.

However, Sison, to this day, denies the allegation. Some useful links:

  60. ADB,
Very interesting angle. I’ll try to check with another source also and see what I can dig up. At any rate, it only reinforces my belief that Sen. Trillanes et al are not in the same mold as these armed struggle proponents, NPA and RAM.

  61. chi chi

    Balweg,

“Nagtataka lang ako bakit ang NPA eh di unahing sintensiyan eh yong mga corrupt sa ating gobyerno at trapong pulitiko.”

Pag ginawa nila yan ay patay na rin ang hanapbuhay nila! Kaya nga love na love nila si Goooria e buhay at mas marami silang narerekrut dahil sa hirap ng buhay!

    Off topic

    Ellen,

I read that most of the officers accused in the alleged Feb. ’06 mutiny did not attend the court martial hearing yesterday because they refused to be brought in the sala handcuffed.

Only Gen.Lim, Col.Querubin, Col. De Leon and Maj. made it to the hearing without wearing handcuffs. (Bakit sila pinayagan ng hindi naka-handcuffed?)

Haha! They are again giving Goooria and Asspweron sleepless nights. Perfect, they should refuse handcuffs to spoil the evil duo’s happiness seeing them in that (humiliating) condition.

  64. Jug,

Personally, in my book Trillanes et al have never been in the same mold as the NPAs and RAM.

    Chi,

“Pag ginawa nila yan ay patay na rin ang hanapbuhay nila!”

That comment of yours may have been made tongue in cheek but it is so very spot on!

  65. chi chi

    Anna,

That comment came from some very poor in my barrio who refused to be wooed by the people of No Permanent Address.

These barriotics are smarter that what other elites think they are.

  66. Chi,

My brother who is far from being an elitist, one who truly cares for people that he refuses to leave RP to settle in the US or anywher in the prosperous West (and he can, his wife is American and he holds a US passport) calls them “Tulisan!”

He says, “If everyone who says he cares and loves this country, left this country, this country would be left to the wolves.”

  67. My brother is US educated, could have made a great career in the US but went back to Pinas after the fall of Marcos — he remains committed to his barrio, his province, RP, and the people and is active in an ngo. He’s a doer and one of the true patriots I know but very low key.

  68. E-mail from Flaviano Sico:

When I first glanced at your column, I thought that you were comparing Estrada to Benazir Bhuto. so I read on. You were only saying that they will kill Estrada so so that it will ignite an uprising of sorts.

I firmly believe that Benazir Bhuto and Estrada are really different. I would say that GMA and Bhuto would be a better tandem… They are so much the same in my view… Even their husbands had been linked to a lot of corruption in the government of the two countries.

  69. I sometimes despair because I don’t believe he will see the change he wants in the country, not during his lifetime but that’s what he wants — a country for his children, a good one and a peaceful one.

  70. Re: “I would say that GMA and Bhuto would be a better tandem… ”

    I agree!

  71. chi chi

    Anna,

Your bro says, “If everyone who says he cares and loves this country, left this country, this country would be left to the wolves.”

    Oh, I’m touched.

My father, a USAFFE guerilla fighter in WW2, refused to be an American citizen for the same reason. He never left Pinas, still tending to his farms and animals and at the same time lending his wisdom to the young politicians in our barrio.

  72. Brownberry Brownberry

There are many veterans like your father, Chi. I’m not saying those veterans in US who are making noise are wrong in leaving the country. They are there because they petitioned their family members who are now enjoying the fruits of what they sacrificed and fought for. Nakakaawa nga sila doon. I heard that many Fil-Am veterans there live in a very crowded and shared room. After so much lobyying and waiting for so many years, they have not yet given their equal rights and full benefits. Pwe !

  73. Brownberry Brownberry

Ellen, you got a good point. GMA and Bhutto are good tandem. Bhutto herself was accused of corruption. Pero sayang siya…ang ganda pa naman. Her son is too young to take over. But the way he talks, he has a very good potential of being a future good leader.

I don’t think that he can be barred from doing that since his reign was not completed, and he and the Filipinos need another chance to see and prove his worth.

On the other hand, I would rather that he concentrate on educating Filipinos even to fight a bad administration by producing documentaries that will tell the people and the world the truth.

  75. BB:

My uncle was one of the first USAFFE veterans (he was a Bataan Death March survivor) who opted for US citizenship and got shipped free of charge to the US in 1947, but I don’t think he was being disloyal to the Philippines doing so.

It was just that he would rather be in a country where he would be treated with respect unlike in the Philippines where he met people who even doubted his war record because of his Japanese root!

Anong feeling mo kung ang mga anak mo tawaging “Makapili” (traitors) just because one of their ancestors happened to be Japanese even when you gave your all for your country and people during the war? Tarantado di ba?

He died in the US, a victim of a jealous Filipino, who thought my debonair uncle was trying to steal his girlfriend and not the girlfriend running after my uncle. Maganda nga lang kasi doon siya nalibing sa Golden Gate National Cemetery sa Colma, CA., the Arlington Cemetery in the Bay Area. Ganda ng nitso niya. I’m proud of him as a matter of fact.

My father could be buried there, too, but he opted to be buried beside my brother. 😛

  76. Brownberry Brownberry

Welcome to the blog, grizzy. Sad to say, we Filipinos are also prejudice. The regional conflict continues up to this day. Not to sound unpatriotic, if given a choice to pick between the US and Japan, I would prefer that RP was under Japan’s rule after the WW2. From nothing and scratch, Japan became very progressive as a nation. Who knows, RP would have become the same under Japan.

  77. chi chi

    Brownberry,

What you said about the not-so-good situation of some of our veterans in the US of A is somewhat true. Mahirap na lang magkwento.

Anyway, there are many Pinoys who choose to stay in Pinas and give a good fight for truth and justice. Sila ang mga present day heroes natin!

  78. Valdemar Valdemar

Many or majority of Pinoys excel elsewhere outside because they have better managers and employers. Most pinoys here are destabilized by the very few smart ones, mostly politicians. In some cases though, pinoy bloodlines are known to have congenital ‘dog eat dog’ rivalries.

  80. Chi,

In short, demonyo.

Para sila iyong sinasabi ng mga na-interview namin for a documentary on the war in the Philippines na nakatalukbong ng bayong na may butas.

It reminds me of the experience of my brother-in-law who did not want to be indebted to my sister, a US citizen, and used to visit his family in the US as a tourist. Then, someone reported him to the NIS even when he was not working, and was being supported by my sister, who worked for a the state of CA.

Pero mas matindi iyong uuwi ang pilipino sa Pilipinas na kabadong baka nasa blacklist siya ike a Filipino friend of mine who is an active member of Gabriela. Hinarang sa NAIA nang umuwi siya to have herself examined by a doctor and have a second opinion on her cancer.

I agree, I had several experiences with dog-eat-dog types, corporate politics is an artform here, you don’t know who to trust really.

  83. brownberry,

We should not have been at war with the Japanese, we were just dragged into it by the Americans. These SOBs, after using our troops (USAFFE), they paid them half of what US soldiers are paid, why? were Filipino soldiers fighting with half-effort only, did they not face the same type of bullets? (Closer than Brothers – Al Mcoy). Our hapless soldiers even went to Vietnam and Korea for them, to be used against people who were fighting for their freedom. Now in Afghanistan (a war waged by the US to control the POPPY FIELDS – cocaine production) and Iraq (for oil). These Americans are even aggravating our Muslim rebel problems in the south by using them as training practice for counter insurgency. Kick them out, and tell them to take Gloria with them, we don’t need them, never did. But if our OFWs in the US will all leave, they’ll have a another big problem to top off their already flagging economy.

  84. Valdemar Valdemar

    Juggernaut,
What are the brown broders are for anyway, cannon fodders. Fo’ da love of mike or smith, for a measly few dollars, they will do anything for Chcolate Joe!

  85. Valdemar,

I have an idea of your age already. Inabutan mo pala yung “GIVE ME CHOCOLATE JOE!”

  86. Brownberry Brownberry

By the way, Koko Pimentel is leading over Zubiri in the ongoing recount of votes. If I were Zubiri, hindi muna ako pupunta sa Senado dahil nakakahiya. That’s the problem with election cheating. Filing a protest with the Election Tribunal not only requires lots of money but too much delay. By the time the results and decision are out, the cheater already has completed his term. Paano na makakaupo ang tunay na nanalo. That’s also the predicament of Loren Legarda. If she wins in the recount, Noli is finished in his term. And if Loren runs again for higher office in 2010, she has forfeited his right to protest. Iyan ang masama sa ganitong sistema. Ang mandaraya ang nakikinabang because they are proclaimed and assumed their office while the protest is going on. Unfair! So, I call on Zubiri: Alis Diyan!

  87. chi chi

    Brownberry,

I read it yesterday that Koko is leading the recount. Zubiri already inherited the kawalanghiyaan of his/her mama Gloria so deadma lang iyan sa recount.

I wish for the truth to come out in the recount of votes, and then ikulong si Tsubiri for cheating!

  88. Brownberry Brownberry

This is what I see in my crystal ball: Erap will not run again in 2010. His son Jinggoy will run as Vice-President, son JV as Senator, JV’s mom Guia as San Juan Mayor, nephew JR Ejercito as Vice-Governor or Congressman.

  89. chi chi

    BB,

The same line of thinking here. I think that Erap is roaming Pinas for Jinggoy, not for himself.

  90. Brownberry Brownberry

Correct ka diyan chi. Erap is doing it for his sons and family. He has tried and got elected in all positions: Mayor, Senator, Vice-President and President. Ano pa ang kailangan at gusto niya? Also, I believe he’s not that healthy anymore.

  91. Jug: I have an idea of your age already. Inabutan mo pala yung “GIVE ME CHOCOLATE JOE!”
