Hilo si Esperon kay Lim

Update:Lim refused to participate in AFP provost marshal investigation. Click here for Inquirer story.

Update: Atty. Vicente Verdadero, lawyer of Brig. Gen. Danny Lim, said he was informed at about 6:30 a.m.today that his client will face investigation by the AFP Provost Marshal at 8 a.m. today.

Lim.

  2. Email from MRivera:

Lim, force him to retract his statements and issue a public apology to Gloria.”

I remember a story related to us by Gen Miranda before the Feb 2006 incident. They were in a class gathering of Class 74 of PMA where both are classmates. According to Gen Miranda, he told Esperon, “Bok, harapin mo na lang kasi mga allegations sayo para matapos na yan.” Esperon replied, “BOK, MAY ALIBI AKO DYAN.”

Tragis, di man lang sinabi na wala syang kasalanan kundi ALIBI pa and isinagot. Wala talagang B ito si Esperon.

  4. SULBATZ SULBATZ

Esperon visited the troops here in Basilan. If only Esperon knew what the troops were doing….naka-DIRTY FINGER sila lahat sa kanya.

  5. Ah, Sulbatz iyan ba yung nagkasubuan ng lobster?

  6. azcarraga_times azcarraga_times

walwal talaga tong si shit of staff. laki galit niya kay gen lim kasi dati, before the 2006 incident, favorite ni gloria si lim, at halos di pansinin si esperon na masyadong kulang sa pansin. eh ang pangit ni esperon eh, di tlga type ni gma ung mga katulad nung face niya.

gloria used to listen to gen lim more than esperon, until gen lim decided to take a stand. dito na pumapel si esperon, at pinansin na rin siya finally ni gma. kaya madalas magpaparada itong si esperon, to make him feel respected cos he never gets it elsewhere.

  7. azcarraga_times azcarraga_times

after gloria unleashes esperon in feb 9 2008, the ‘asong ulol’ has to be impounded already. he might spread sh*t all over.

Phillip Andrew A. Pestaño graduated from the Ateneo de
Manila High School in 1989, entered the Philippine
Military Academy, and became an Ensign in the
Philippine Navy in 1993. He was assigned as
cargomaster, on a Navy ship. He discovered that the
cargo being loaded onto his vessel included logs that
were cut down illegally, were carried to the ship
illegally, and were destined to be sold, illegally. .
. .. Then there were 50 sacks of flour, which were not
flour, but shabu – worth billions. Literally,
    billions . . . . . And there were military weapons
which were destined forsale to the Abu Sayyaf.

He felt that he could not approve this cargo. Superior
officers came to him and said:”Please! be reasonable!
This is big business. It involves many important
people. Approve this cargo.” But Phillip could not, in
conscience, sign approval. Then his parents received
two phone calls, saying: “Getyour son off that ship!
He is going to be killed!” When Phillip was givenleave
at home, his family begged him not to go back. Their
efforts at persuasion continued until his last night
at home, when Phillip was already in bed.

His father came to him and said: “Please, son, resign
your commission.Give up your military career. Don’t go
back. We want you alive. If you go backto that ship,
it will be the end of you!” But Phillip said to his
father:”Kawawa ang bayan!” And he went back to the
    ship.

The scheduled trip was very brief – from Caviteto
Roxas Boulevard – it usually took only 45minutes. But
on September 27, 1995 , it took one hour and a half.
Whenthe ship arrived at Roxas Boulevard, Ensign
    Pestaño was dead.

The body was in his stateroom, with a pistol, and a
letter saying that he wascommitting suicide. The
family realized at once that the letter was
forged. They tried desperately for justice, carrying
the case right up to the Senate. The Senatorial
Investigation Committee examined all the evidence,
carefully. Then they issued an official statement,
    saying among other things:

Ensign Phillip Pestaño did not commit suicide. He was
murdered. He was shotthrough the head, somewhere
outside of his stateroom, and the body was carriedto
his room and placed in the bed. The crime was
committed by more than oneperson. In spite of these
findings, by the Senate, the family could not
getjustice. The case is still recorded, by the Navy,
as suicide. For 12 years theyhave been knocking at the
doors of those in power, to no avail.

Now they realize that they should knock on the door of
Him who said:”Knock, and it shall be opened to you.
Ask and you shall receive. Seek, and you shall find.”

So they are asking all of the friends of Phillip from
the Ateneo, from the PMA,friends of the family –
including the girl he was engaged to marry – tosay
    this prayer:

Lord, we know that Phillip is safe with you, and will
be safe forever, becausehe gave up his life, as You
gave up Your life – for justice. If it is Yourwill,
please let the truth be known of his heroic courage
and strength and loveof country. Let justice be
rendered here on earth. But if it is not Your willthat
justice be rendered here, give each of us the grace to
live and die as hedid – following in Your footsteps.

And at the last judgment, Lord, when all that is
hidden will be known, letPhillip be seen as he really
is – a brave young man who gave his life forhonesty,
    truth, and justice. * * *

Phillip Pestaño died at the age of 24. He was
scheduled to be married inJanuary of 1996, four months
    after he was murdered.

He was a martyr. . . A martyr is one who dies for the
faith or for a Christianvirtue. Phillip died for a
Christian virtue – justice. It is not likely that
hewill ever be canonized, but he takes his place among
    the Unknown Saints.

Some military men are killed in battle. They are given
a hero’s burial. ButPhillip died for a much deeper
cause – he was trying to preserve the integrityof our
Armed Forces. He died out of loyalty to the
Philippines,in an effort to keep the oath that he made
when he graduated from the Military Academy.

Graft and corruption are the curse of this nation. But
when they take root inthe heart of our Armed Forces,
they threaten our existence as an
    independent,democratic country.

The family of Phillip Pestaño is doing the right
thing. They are turning toGod. They are praying that
justice will be administered here, in our country,in
our day. But if this is not God’s will, then let us at
least try to preservethe ideal of integrity in every
    mind and heart and soul.

Tama ka Noypisausa, at iyan ang sitwasyon ng ating bansa ngayon dahil sa mga corrupt military leaders like Esperon, who sold their souls to the devil. And the fight of Trillanes, Gen Lim and the other gallant soldiers is not only for truth and justice but for also FREEDOM for the Filipino people!

The resolved spirit of Gen Lim cannot be easily weakened and broken by physical and psychological harm in a place of punishment, as klingon aptly described ISAFP.

Unlike the political prisoners who are considered by the military as their primal enemies, Gen Lim still enjoys their respect. His heroic act of rebellion is considered as a powerful voice articulating their elusive dream of reform.

However, role-reversal is not a remote scenario: the low ranking officers, who are given full blanket authority to interrogate the erring well-medaled general, are susceptible to abuse their power. I personally witnessed the brutality and arrogance of the military. Their lust for power, enhanced by inordinate attachment to their lethal weapons, caused awe and trembling among many innocents civilians who are accused as NPAs. Awe because their brilliant brains see nothing but the power of the bullets; trembling because these people have no remorse in killing unarmed and powerless pepes and pilars.

Knowing the dehumanizing effects of these time-tested varieties of torture, Ellen and her allies must indeed be vigilant and pro-active.

  14. I was exchanging notes with a fellow reporter after we got the notice of an 8 a.m. investigation by the afp provost marshall of gen. lim (That means Gen. Lim left Camp Capinpin at 4 a.m.?).

Her observations: the military is starting its investigation almost a month after the incident. Before any Magdalo officer is investigated, gen. Lim is the first to be subjected to such military procedure.

What can be questioned now is the delay in the start of the probe or is it only made now to give basis in defying the court order to return Gen. Lim to Camp Capinpin and have him detained at ISAFP?

I hope Atty. Vic gets the court to slap Esperon with a contempt charge for violating a court order. I’m praying that Esperon continues to defy the order and the judge puts him in jail. It may not happen, but hey, I can dream, cant I?

  18. From a military officer:

The reason why it’s only now that the AFP is scrambling to subject Gen. Lim and the Magdalo officers to an investigation is because Gloria Arroyo and Esperon are dismayed by the decision of the civilian court. They were expecting the judge to distort the law in their favor, as they have done in several cases, but it did not happen.

Now, they are going to charge Lim and company in a court martial, where it is under their control and no justice is expected.

Sige lang. May katapusan ang lahat.

  19. ellen,

This is really very tragic indeed, not even Marcos (who was a certified dictator) dared do anything like this. These people have no scruples at all. So Gloria is that confident of her hold on the military?

noypisausa, I feel numb by what you have written about Phillip Andrew A. Pestaño. from this day on no amount of spiel from PMAers can convince me that they are truely honest and sincere, they are a collective expensive disgrace to the ordinary tax payer.

  21. wwnl,

Sakit naman nun. There’s only a few rotten eggs, unfortunately these types know to ingratiate themselves with any sitting president and get the juicy positions.

  22. Andrew Pestano is just one case, there are several albeit not publicized tragedies.

  23. PMA is really a socialized institution where anyone, lower class, middle class, or upperclass origins can get the opportunity to get a good education, provided he/she qualifies. Inside, for four years, there is no barriers of social status, you leave your civilian life outside, there unlike any educational institution, you have an even playing field. Outside the academy, is another story…

  24. juggernaut:
Apart from yourself and the ‘few good jailed PMAers’ I’ve yet to hear the bulk of the PMAers to raise a howl. after all its their reputation that the likes of mr arsepewron is destroying.

  25. To hear comments like mr arseperon didn’t realise it but everyone was giving a one finger salute, makes me think of when I was at junior school not a member of a military acadame.

  26. “The Butcher” (Ang Berdugo!)

“A former Army general accused of ordering the murders of communist sympathizers denied reports that he masterminded the murder of radio broadcaster Fernando Lintuan in Davao City last week.

“Davao is too far. I don’t know the people there. Why should I order the kiling of that journalist?” former Army general Jovito Palparan told ABS-CBN.

Palparan’s denial came after Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte hinted at Palparan’s possible involvement in Lintuan’s killing.

Duterte claimed that Palparan, who was allegedly hired by a congressman as a military consultant, was sighted in Davao City two weeks before Lintuan’s killing.ABS -CBN Interactive”

Human rights groups have documented large scale killings in places where General Palparan had been posted.

In the light of the president’s claims to be taking action against extrajudicial killings General Palparan’s resistance to the change of policy raises many questions as to the role of a military general within the political structure of the Philippines.

President Arroyo praise of General Palparan in a previous State of the Nation Speech (SONA) itself raises questions as to the political structure of command within the country. It is within this same speech that the president called upon everyone to work together to eliminate extrajudicial killings.

The sceptics who may doubt the seriousness of this resolve will see in the continuing influence of General Palparan a confirmation for their skepticism.

  27. wwnl,

Actually, most are just listening to the old guards’ advice “stand fast” while some of Asperon’s mistahs are applying brotherly pressure, some can’t wait anymore (I can’t blame them) and some are risking their asses blogging with us (I told you mga bok SINCERELY careful!). But don’t you worry, silent visitors to ellen’s blog are there (and growing), at least they are aware of the sentiments of the people…

  28. juggernaut:
The way I see it is that, yes more support is showing up on this blog but lets be frank about it here in Ellensville we are just pissing in the wind – the change change needs to come from within the PMAers, serving and retired to tell mr arseperon in no uncertain terms to follow the PMAers code or else. Simple as that but of course it takes collective balls otherwise to be a PMAer is meaningless, don’t you think.

  29. The military is obviously polarized on this issue, on the other side of the spectrum (some are good friends of mine also) actually believe that defending the current administration is their duty, follow the chain of command, and to do otherwise would be in direct violation of their reason for existence – the “professional soldier” only a few subscribe to “critical thinking.” Between these two groups are “opportunists” who would side with the winning team or report on those “coup plotters.” Actually, it really depends on what “school of thought” we are standing on and I can’t blame them, it was how they were brought up.
For me, this is a battle that must be fought on the “political” arena, we the people and the opposition we voted for in the senate must work on this, of course, the military taking a part on it is an added bonus. Its easy to suppress the military, they have limited rights, Esperon can always yell “rebellion” but with civilians, we can always yell out “freedom of speech!”

“Actually, it really depends on what “school of thought” we are standing on and I can’t blame them, it was how they were brought up.” – juggernaut

Is this polarity apparent in the academy or did it developed outside of the academy? If this is how they were brought up, why was there no uniformity of conviction? Why was there a great divide between the so called “professional soldiers” and the “critical thinkers”? Where lies the role of conscience?

When a military officer tells you that he is a professional soldier and yet his career depends on politics, don’t believe him, he’s lying.

  31. ace,

Actually, while inside the academy, everybody is supposed to be shielded from outside influences. Politization starts when the officers start their careers in the regular AFP. This eventual exposure actually makes or breaks anyone’s career, will you choose to compromise, do the dance, and at least get in the position to make changes (get promoted) or totally reject the system and resign, start a new career in the private sector. Its really a very difficult position we are putting these men into, when they can just follow orders, execute the mission, go home to their families as opposed to get arrested for rebellion, suffer financial ruin, and be taken away from their families.
It would be fair to say that it should be a mutual movement, they move, we move, all of us protect each other. Otherwise, just look at those soldiers and civilians languishing in jail, add the missing media men and students.

You’ll find the effect of junior officers interrogating seniors and how this experience turns them into monsters. This administration’s abuse of the military for political ends will only serve to damage this institution.

I share your concerns but on the other hand,I think the men from ISAFP will not be that stupid unless their common sense has betrayed them already. Who would have guess that Captain Danny Lim of 1989 would become a General Lim today and who knows what the General Lim today would become tomorrow. If their sensibilities are still intact, they should treat General Lim with utmost respect but then again, this saying can be true in this case:

“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity'”

  38. ace,

The men from ISAFP will do what they are told to do, its a job for them, just like the soldiers during the martial era followed orders and interrogated senior officers. If they don’t, they’re better off following Gen. Lim instead because they’ll be slapped with insubordination anyway.

  39. And the guys in ISAFP have no respect for anyone, so they are not respected in return. They will ingratiate themselves to any group/person and when that group/person lets down their/his guard wham! intelligence report ka!

“Otherwise, just look at those soldiers and civilians languishing in jail, add the missing media men and students.” – juggernaut

I will not comment on the case of the civilians, missing media men and students in jail.
I would like to opine regarding the incarcerated soldiers fighting for what is right. I think these soldiers are not languishing in jail, on the contrary, they are being preserved and their jailer(Esperon) is unaware of this, not withstanding the fact that their respective families will be deeply affected by this “preservation” especially the children, morally and financially.

One of the reason why a monk, though he is free, would voluntarily “imprison” himself(living in the strict confines of the temple) is for preservation purposes. They wanted their beliefs , their sense of justice and equity, their sense of honor, integrity and courage to be preserved. Such was the case of the Burmese monks, when of late, they marched on the streets of Rangoon in protest against injustice and human rights abuses. Their courage stems from the preservation of their beliefs and this experience is shared by the likes of Ninoy Aquino, Nelson Mandela, Alexander Solzhenitsyn,Joseph of the Old Testament who later became Prime Minister in Egypt, the great Apostle Paul and many more.

General Lim and company are in a conditon where their love of country, their sense of fairness, their values regarding honor, integrity and courage are being preserved. What I am worried about are the fence-sitters, the by-standers, it will just be a matter of time and they will surrender the core values they were taught in the academy and succumb to the rule of corruption, collusion and connivance.

The rule of law must always prevail but it presupposes respect for the law and I believe that General Lim and company have this utmost respect for the law.

“An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

  41. ace,

Thank you very much for that comment, I’m sure a lot of us here will appreciate it, like those who risk running into Esperon’s gestapo while trying to build momentum. You can’t imagine my frustration with the guys in PNP and the way they tend to rationalize things, sometimes I’m blinded by friendship, but you’re right – if someone says they are professional but is dependent on politics he’s lying. Its very difficult personally, but a line must be drawn…

Yes, I remember the young promising cadet Ronald Cardema. Like you, I’m a regular reader of Bulatlat .

Regarding the book of McCoy, I actually read a portion of the book when I visited my cousin in 2000. I was more interested in his findings about the “torture mentality” of class 71. These young officers were used as killing machines of the Marcos dictatorship. In effect, these young officers thought that the best way of persuasion is thru brutality, aggression, and violence. Inside torture chamber s, they see themselves like gods. This dangerous mindset asserts that change and reforms can only be achieved thru bloody coups. For them, seizure of power and authority from the president is morally acceptable means for reform and social change.

The torture chamber was death itself… I was there… I was in great pain.

Juggernaut, I like your comment on the polarized AFP. Sad to say that’s the current situation and even in the PNP. Officers and men alike are saying that in GMA there is economic gain, so ‘wag ng sirain ang momentum ng pag-unlad. These people don’t know the real score! Their mindset is tuned to the Esperon/GMA syndicate pronouncements. They should analyze, think outside the box as they say, look at our asean neighbors, pati Vietnam tatalunin na tayo. Then sasabihin nila dahil may destabilizers.

NO! that is not the reason. It’s corruption in high places both civilian and military. So our stagnation is not from coups but from these corrupt politicians and generals all the way to GMA. Ang coup and destabs na sinasabi ay symptoms, they are not the cause. So to get rid of the symptoms cure the cause. Plain and simple.

Tapos budget nya per day is a mere $5.00.Ngayon ihambing mo yan sa NBN deal, election expenses of comelec or even our latest bribe sa mga congressmen/govs. Barya!

  48. The people of People Power 2:

They were right when they did it in 2001, why would it be wrong if it is done now?

They justified 2001 by crying out “Korap si Erap”. Why don’t they see the justification now that Aling Gloria is “Walang kurap sa pangongorap”?

The benificiaries of People Power 2:

How easily can people be forgotten once power had been grabbed successfully?

Angie Reyes withdrew support from Erap because he may have thought that that is the right thing to do. His actions were eventually described with gloriously (pun intended) sounding adjectives.

Gen. Danny Lim did the same twice over. I am sure, he would not want adjectives that sound glorious. He would want them to sound simply fair and sincere.

    Ace,

    Good remarks.

The ” fuga mundi” of the monks to “preserve” holiness from an unholy world was indeed a remarkable interpretation of the monastic life. I stayed in the monastery, studied the literatures of monastic life and I found out that the “fuga mundi” interpretation is due to lack of understanding of the monastic life. While it is true that these monks opted to organize themselves into self-sufficient and self-governing communities, the preservation of cultural values is but a by-product – never an intended result. Most of our literatures are preserved by the monks. They do not choose to be imprisoned in the walls of the monastery; in fact, the monastery was never been seen as a prison cell. Some of us think that the monks do not care outside their monastery, but the truth is that they are updated in what is happening in our country. Indeed, I read the radical books in their library. And it is not surprising for the Burmese monks to march in the streets denouncing the injustice and rampant human rights abuses in the land.

To redress our grievances against corruption and injustice is a heroic act. Trillanes, Lim et al were imprisoned due to rebellion in redressing their grievances against the AFP in particular and lately, against the perceived and real “corruption” and other political issues of the GMA administration. Trillanes, Lim et al are not embracing the prison cells… their withdrawal and support failed to awakened Filipinos to rally behind them (like EDSA I and II), that is why they are now prisoners of the state. They hope for the better, but time was against them, our apathy was frustrating them.

We cannot romanticize that Trillanes, Lim et al voluntarily accept imprisonment to awaken the apathy of our people against injustice and corruption. No. They refused to accept the penalty of imprisonment. They are not “preserving” their values. Preservation is alien to their minds. They are brilliant planners, tacticians, thinkers… they were accused in using wisely the media at Pen!

As one commentator said, the media became the willing human shields of Trillanes and Lim. Right or wrong, life was preserved.

  56. adhikain:

Gringo was a rebel. He tried shaking off the rebel tag by joining Aling Gloria. I think, he was successful in shaking the tag off. His failure is in trying to put on the hero tag.

Thanks for reminding me that glorious is meant for mysteries, the rosary and everything else spiritually miraculous and uplifting.

When you have a certain Gloria who lies, cheats, and probably steals a nation’s soul, it is rather tempting not to see the real meaning of the word.

  57. Deepcaring, that commentator who said about media as “willing human shields to Trillanes and Lim” was not with us at the Manila Pen. He knew nothing why we stood firm and stayed to do our job.

We stayed at the Manila Pen because it’s our duty to inform the people of the unfolding crisis which was of national interest.

May I refer you to my statement before the Senate committee on justice. Click here. Please read also the statements of Charmaine Deogracias of NHK (click here) and Maria Ressa of ABS-CBN. Click here.

It was never our intention to protect Trillanes and Lim. If the police killed them, we would not be in the way but we will report truthfully how they were killed.

  58. There is a big difference between the Honasan coups of the 80’s and Sen. Trillanes’ et al.

    1) Honasan was a singular, charismatic, leader of class ’71, he was even class baron, its a far cry from the diffused leadership of Sen. Trillanes’ class.

    2) Class ’71 at the time headed the most powerful battle groups in the AFP.

    3) Class ’71 were indoctrinated into Marcos’ Martial Law after graduation.

    4) Marcos’ practically wooed this class, spoiling them even.

    5) This politization of the military resulted in desocialization, instead of “civilian authority above the military” it became “the military saving the civilian from himself.”

    6) Honasan had political backing, a galil toting Industrialist who dreamed of becoming president.

    7) The RAM had several Human Rights violations hounding them, the succeeding coups (against Cory) was in self preservation. Notice the silence after the deals were struck?

    8) Sen. Trillanes, Gen. Lim, Col. Querubin, Gen. Miranda and others did not stage a coup. But notice how they are being treated?

  60. Honasan had political backing, a galil toting Industrialist who dreamed of becoming president.

Footages from EDSA I identify this politician.

The RAM had several Human Rights violations hounding them, the succeeding coups (against Cory) was in self preservation.

The option of which side to choose then were quite obvious. The option of which side to choose now is even more obvious.

It was quite difficult to identify with the cause of the RAMboys then (if there were any). Today’s cause is clearly every ordinary Filipino’s cause.

Human shields. Another slogan employed to distort the issue; culled from the incidents of terrorism in the Middle East. A slogan is insidious because it seduces the individual to feel, and conclude without thinking.

    There is a difference, though.

In the Middle East, the terrorists used civilians as human shields, while firing at soldiers. The soldiers could not fire back because the soldiers did not want to hit the unwilling human shields the terrorists forcibly used as cover. It was a callous use of civilian lives.

In this case, the pigs were firing, but the Magdalos were not firing back because they were unarmed. The civilians (Nemenzo et al) were willing shields for the unarmed Magdalos.

    Thanks ellen.

I only listened part of the articulate Ressa’s response to the senate inquiry, her full text is a strong defense to the freedom of the press and the people’s right to know. But I wonder why only a few brilliant media practitioners highlighted the response of senator arroyo? Selective journalism? Well, the same freedom fighter of the right of people to know, see no “chilling effect” of ABS-CBN’s “wowowee scandal” where the feeling, nay dream of the poor filipinos duped by a promised million were used for profit and ratings. She seems to be so alarmingly silent, if indeed she denounced it at all! Did she speak loudly to denounce the injustice done to the Sumilao farmers by the rich SMFI? Maybe, the “chilling effect” of ad ban is more trembling.

Your personal account as participant of the event, particularly after the arrest of Trillanes group, the maltreatment and arrogance of the police was worth denouncing. Good that you have pointed that out to the ears of the senators. Sad, they heard nothing! Hope you don’t mind, that it seems understandable that you stay closer and longer than necessary due to your devotion to the cause of the rebels. But needless to say, the media people were clapping in affirming their role as “shields” of the rebels when the female activist thanked the media for protecting them by staying all the way through.

But as a whole, my sentiment was that the media people, whether obstructing the police operation or not, whether they stay in order to tell the people about the side of the rebels or to safeguard their ratings because the competitor already asked their media people to leave the critical area, were giving the people ample information about the sentiments and vision (if any) of the rebel group.

Police brutality is a no-no, Media must cry foul. If they remain silent, this corrupt government will continue to use violence to hide the truth from the people.

Actually, my ambiguity towards the Trillanes agenda is the more on the motive. I was praising the guy when he stand against the military instituion accusing the leadership of corruption.

I read his reports and he know what he’s fighting for.

When he run for senator under the opposition, I felt betrayed by the guy. Or I would rather say, I was frustrated. I really don’t know why I feel that way.

Honestly I felt that way too, especially when Sen. Trillanes seemed to have close ties with Estrada. Another thing, he reminds me of my room mate who’s two girlfriends visited him at the same day, so I had to entertain the other while he took care of the other. The next weekend, the same thing happened, this time with 3 other girls so we had to call in reinforcement from another room, we were all envious of him, damn! he gets all the girls!
In the early days with this blog I still felt that way about the senator but I did some checking on my own, he’s not bad really, he’s just not as eloquent and charismatic as Gringo was but he’s sincere.

until now i am searching for the rationale of the Pen rebellion.

i really like your idea that Trillanes Lim et al may embraced imprisonment so that the people may be awakened. But that is remote to their minds. They are more pre-occupied to fight for their own freedom thru legal means. Some of their comrades accept the offer of the government, but not afraid to shout, “tuloy ang laban kontra corruption”

I am even interested on the statement of the Magdalo group on Sumilao farmers. Are they also buying the propaganda that the left has penetrated the farmers, that’s why they prefer to be silent? Provide me link on their stand on the Sumilao case, please.

No matter what your initial impressions were towards Sen. Trillanes, you have to accept the fact that it was only him, among last year’s senatorial bets, who was able to capture the hope of the Pinoys with regards to freeing Pinas from the “KUKO of Gloria Arroyo”.

While others will just enjoy the perks of being a senador, not Trillanes! First of all, both were outspoken strong political figures. Bhutto returned to Pakistan from exile while Ninoy returned from the US. While Bhutto got to live for a while since she returned, si Ninoy hanggang airport lang todas na.

I hope this Pakistan incident won’t encourage GMA to use the same tactic in eliminating her strongest political opponent when 2010 approaches. The problem is the opposition has so many strong candidates. Hindi niya kayang ubusin iyan. But if the opposition is able to come up with a single candidate, iyon ang delikado.

Finally, if the assassin was able to commit such act on Bhutto in Pakistan, bakit hindi kaya sa Pilipinas? All it takes is a suicide attacker or bomber. I’m not suggesting anything. No one can stop a determined assassin.

The propaganda that the left has penetrated the ranks of the farmers came from the AFP hierarchy. I am of the opinion that the Magdalo group believes in the cause the farmers are fighting for but it is not prudent for them to make public their sentiments since it will be used against them by Esperon to discredit them among the rank and files of the AFP. Remember, the day they arrested Lt.San Juan in Batangas, they were quick to paint the scenario as “red” as it could get.

A government of repression and violence cannot be destroyed except by violence.

The death of Bhutto will not silence her cause, but heightened the cry for revolution. Pakistan will be the center of the world. Would they opt for peaceful revolution like edsa or they ignite the fire in every revolutionary heart?

“They are more preoccupied to fight for their own freedom thru legal means.” — deepcaring
    ===================
This is not correct. The Magdalo participants in the walk-out and Gen. Lim were in the midst of several trials. They could have negotiated. They could have plea bargained. But they didn’t. Instead, they continued the fight.

Nick Faeldon for instance, left his detention in 2005, he did so to continue the fight. He did not have to do that. Being on the run is much more difficult than simply being in jail. He also did not have to join the walk-out. His NGO is doing well, his cases were in good hands. He could have just waited. He didn’t. Now his fate is uncertain.

Sonny Trillanes is already a Senator. He could have just played politics and gotten himself transferred to the Senate and lived there. Instead, he stayed in the Marine Brig. He could have just waited out GMA’s term and played himself as the underdog. But he went on that walk-out. Not only does he have more cases now, he has exposed himself to vicious sniping from a public that is sore because they think he lost.

Gen. Lim was comfortable in his detention in Tanay. His cases are defensible. He has a good reputation and could have sought employment as a civilian any where. But he joined the cause of the Magdalo group.

None of them had to do this. But they did anyway because the country needs to be saved from the clutches of GMA and Esperon.

Another misconception is that these officers and men are out to grab power. This is absolutely untrue. While I am not familiar with the statements issued by Sen. Trillanes, I am sure of those issued by Capt. Faeldon (its in his website). He has stated that there is no reward for him in this fight save for the thought that if he dies he dies at peace because he is doing this for the country. He has expressed disinterest in any government position should the fight be won.
I believe that the others share this view, save for Sen. Trillanes who ran for Senate to work for change within the system.

    rose,

Its still the same, if anything has changed, the facilities are better, they have internet now, and the graduates are a lot more articulate, before it was only a handful. I still believe that as long as the unscrupulous politicians don’t control the promotions of these officers and based strictly on merit, we’ll be in good hands.
The military has its own system, it is perfectly capable of running itself without the interference of patronage politics. Even now, after numerous incidents that seem to tarnish its image, it is capable of rebuilding itself. Our military is the reflection of our strength, our pride, and our resolve as a people.

Esperon has two (2) Gold Cross medals. One he got while inside an airconditioned office at NISA and the other while he was several kilometers away from actual combat. This is the kind of Cheat of Staff that runs the Armed Forces now.

Note: Gold Cross Medals are earned in actual combat with the enemy.

I dare the sycophants of Esperon to dispute this and I will post the proof here.

True. Where are the outspoken candidates during the election campaigns? Juggernaut

The Oakwood, the February 24th 2006 and the 2007 Manila Pen incidents have common factor: the fight against endless corruption and abusive government. The patriotic soldiers of the Filipino people have turned their words with meaningful actions. The war against massive corruption is the battlecry during election campaigns only. After the elections, may nangyari ba? The time for tough words is gone and it’s now time for concrete actions. Sen. Antonio Trillanes, Army Brig. General Danilo Lim, et al protest action at Manila Pen is the right thing to do. Gloria Arroyo regime’s relentless corruption has an adverse impact on country’s economic growth and prostituted the rule of law.

  106. SULBATZ SULBATZ

I subscribe to the idea of a “professional soldier”. However, being a professional soldier does not mean that he becomes a faceless automaton who is incapable of “critical thinking”

  107. SULBATZ SULBATZ

All members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines swore to uphold the Constitution. Nowhere in its Oath is there any mention of Loyalty to any single person. Loyalty is actually demanded to God, Country and People only. Furthermomore, this Oath seeks to preserve all institutions that God, Country and People represent.

One of the institutions that the soldiers swore to preserve is the elections and/or sanctity of the ballot. COMELEC only seeks to administer the ballot, but it is the soldier’s primordial duty that no tyrant, cheat, thief and liar shall rob the Filipinos of their only voice. Failure on their part to do so would BE tantamount to their being tyrants, cheats, thieves and liars themselves. For whoever sits as President and Commander in Chief in an election marked with irregularities, would be issuing policies that do not bear the imprimatur and will of the people. Military professionalism dictates that this anomaly should be brought to the fore and be corrected. Military professionalism also dictates that in correcting this irregularity, all institutions and systems should be exhausted. Trillanes, Lim etal sought to bring to the fore and exhausted all means to correct the evil that was brought upon us in the 2004 elections via the legal institutions and systems available. But what happened? Every foul effort was made to derail what could have been a peaceful resolution. Balutan and Gudani sought the legal option by appearing in the Senate investigation. Witnesses to the cheating appeared before the Mayuga Investigating Panel (although most witnesses with first-hand knowledge were not called). Officers and men of the Armed Forces aired their grievances to their superiors regarding the use of the AFP in the cheating operations. Are these not legal means? What happened to these soldiers? Balutan and Gudani were instead slapped with cases of violations of the Articles of War. The Mayuga Report was never publicized in the interest of transparency. Other officers and men were incarcerated. What then do you make out of it? NO CHEATING? Cmon…where’s your critical thinking.

Is there any other option????…WHAT DO YOU THINK?

klingon:”Another misconception is that these officers and men are out to grab power. Everything else contrary to what they like is a BAD thing (or guy).

jug: “Our military is the reflection of our strength, our pride, and our resolve as a people.” I hope this norm gets out of its idyllic niche and transform into a useful action. You must be a wide reader..were you not lucky..”being the lone male” were they glad to find out that you were not a seminarian? Now I understand why may simpatiya ka sa mga Theresians..There were three STCs before..Manila, QC and Cebu. Now Manila and QC became one. I went to QC.

  119. rose,

Actually, it was a bit awkward at first. I had to travel from another campus so I was always late for class in STC. My classmates would intentionally leave the front most seat (directly in front of the teacher’s table) vacant so I had to pass in front and take my seat, I could hear giggles in the back. The most challenging part was the reporting, I was forced to prepare because these girls are so serious with school work (kina career) and I probably had a crash course in grammar also during that time. Anyway, I got out of the experience a better student, a better speaker, and writer. Of course, I didn’t reveal my not being a seminarian, those guys have this “appeal.”

Kawawang Pilipinas! Natambakan na ng mga inutil, et al!

  122. deepcaring deepcaring

Yup, Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning is a book of the “human spirit” (Bishop Labayen’s concept).

In a dehumanizing and sub-human condition where life has become no value, the “human spirit” refused to die. While some prisoners at the concentration camp became indifferent, there are those who embraced life.

In a condition where even sexual desire is almost zero, the hungry prisoners broke their small bread and gave it to their co-prisoners who are in dire need for food. These prisoners who has compassion to others are no different to Trillanes and Lim among us today. They see the light glimmering at the end of the tunnel — that’s why they refused to be infected by the “morally bankrupt government” whose leader has “no moral ascendancy to govern.”

The president and former president of CBCP, Archbishops Lagdameo and Cruz, used these words without hesitation… not afraid to be ridiculed by the “parasites” of the GMA administration.

Did you notice that the threads on Martir on timawa.net and philippine defense forces forum are uncannily the same? The answers are practically duplications on both sites. The needs and interests of the Filipino is primary while that of foreigners is secondary.
However, some Filipinos are still uneasy about this and would rather be the apologists or defenders of foreign interests.
