Update from ABS-CBN
From Inquirer Online:
A bomb exploded at the House of Representatives in Quezon City Tuesday evening, killing Basilan Representative Wahab Akbar and the driver of another lawmaker.
Two other solons and five more persons were also wounded in the explosion, just minutes after the House adjourned its session a little past 8 p.m.
Aside from Akbar, the explosion also killed Marcial Tando, driver of Gabriela Representative Luz Ilagan.
Philippine National Police Director General Avelino Razon Jr. said Doctor Arnold Corpus declared the solon dead at the Far Eastern University Hospital at around 10:25 p.m.
Mayor Talib Pawaki of Hadji Muhamad Ajul town in Basilan said Akbar sustained “massive head injuries,” including a fracture, but was still alive when brought to the hospital.
Akbar’s body will be flown home to Basilan on Wednesday in keeping with Muslim tradition to bury the dead within 24 hours.
National Capital Region Police Director Gearry Barias said Akbar was the likely target of the bombing but added that they still had to confirm this.
He said they suspect an improvised explosive device was remotely detonated because “the explosion occurred immediately after the suspension of the session at 8:05 p.m.”
Barias added that they were looking at one of two motorcycles parked a few meters from the south wing lobby of the Batasan as the carrier of the bomb. The explosion left a three-foot crater.
He said they are questioning a cameraman of the House of Representatives who owned one of two motorcycles but were not taking him into custody.
Among the wounded were Ilagan and Negros Oriental Representative Henry Teves.
Gabriela Representative Liza Maza, also identified another of the wounded as her driver Mike Lim. She said Ilagan, Lim and Tando were rushed to the nearby Miguel Malvar Hospital.
Dr. Ven Malabanan of the New Era General Hospital, where Teves was first rushed, said the solon was in “very critical condition” after sustaining blast injuries, including second and third degree burns and shrapnel wounds to the face and body, and needed to be transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital.
“He had to be transferred because he needs to be [admitted to] the Intensive Care Unit,” Malabanan said.
Two other victims, Julasiri ‘Niki’ Hayudin and Denis Manila remain at New Era. Dr. Mike Brillantes described Hayudini as also in critical condition, with shrapnel wounds and burns all over her body and a left leg that might have to be amputated.
Malabanan also said Hayudini is intubated and unstable while Manila might need to undergo surgery for deep shrapnel wounds.
Barias said Tando, who was identified through his identification card, died on the spot and suffered “a very big wound” in his nape. His body will be brought either to the police crime laboratory or the National Bureau of Investigation for autopsy.
Maza said she had looked out her office window on hearing the explosion and saw Ilagan’s car on the driveway of the south wing of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City and next to a vehicle, reportedly Akbar’s Fortuner sports utility vehicle, which was on fire.
Representatives who were still inside the Batasan when the explosion occurred have not been allowed to leave.
The Gabriela solon said she and Ilagan had left the session hall together but her colleague went straight to the south wing to leave while she passed by her office.
“I heard a loud explosion and thought at first it was thunder but realized it was too loud to be thunder,” Maza said. “When I looked out my window, I saw a vehicle on fire and near that vehicle was the car of Congresswoman Ilagan.”
She said she immediately sent a member of her staff down to check the situation and was told “there were bodies sprawled throughout the lobby.”
De Venecia said he had ordered a “clean sweep” of the sprawling complex, located north of the capital Manila, to ensure “there are no other bombs that are left behind.”
Congressman Joel Villanueva said less than 50 of the House’s 275 members were left inside when the bomb exploded.
“It was a very huge explosion,” Villanueva said. “We are stunned.”
“I heard it and I felt the blast although I was on the other side of the building. The ceiling of the canopy near the south wing entrance came down,” Bayan Muna (People First) Representative Teodoro Casiño told The Associated Press.
Philippine National Police Director General Avelino Razon, who has arrived at the Batasan, is under orders from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to personally supervise the investigation of the explosion, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said.
Bunye said Razon is under instructions to determine the cause of the explosion and make periodic reports to Arroyo.
The House explosion occurred amid heightened political tensions in the country, with Arroyo facing a third impeachment complaint in as many years amid a barrage of political storms, corruption scandals and a feisty opposition.
Metro Manila has been jittery since last month, when an explosion ripped through the Glorietta 2 mall in Makati City, killing 11 people and injuring more than 100. Police says the mall explosion was an accident.

May Allah go with him.
GOD save the Philippines! Very difficult times ahead as desperate people make desperate moves.
Gloria Arroyo will be on air in a few minutes.
11/13/07
Ellen,
Do you have the names of the people that got hurt in the bombing?
Blogs are starting to seem like obituary columnns with the number of killed, getting killed news that make it to prime time news in Pinas …
“Gloria Arroyo will be on air in a few minutes.”
******************
She has always been on air. Never had her feet on the ground.
Sorry could not resist the pun.
I got this from the radio just now, Maan Abustanilo, staff member of Rep. Henry Teves, has flatlined, all gadgets removed, respirator removed and people started crying.
Henry Teves is critical in St. Luke’s. Watching him are grandfather-rep and uncle-Finance Sec.
Wonder if Gloria’s gonna whip up her “threat” speech she made after the Glorietta blast to would be distabilizers again, when she put everyone, opposition, rebels, terrorists on the same footing.
Dandaw, so far these are the names mentioned. The news is fluid:
Negros Oriental Rep. Henry Teves, meanwhile, is in critical condition after sustaining severe blast injuries and burns following the explosion.
Those who were rushed to General Malvar Hospital on Commonwealth Avenue were identified as Gabriela Rep. Luz Ilagan, who sustained shrapnel wounds to the legs and back; Ismael Lim, driver of Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza; Kim Ar, bodyguard of Akbar and Maan Abustanilo, a staff of Teves.
Hi guys, I went straight to my room to watch the news. On top of all this, we have a financial tsunami. Hopefully, things don’t go from bad to worst.
Puno : Bomb attack directed at certain individuals.
Nakafull red alert pala kayo diyan sa entire Metro Manila.
Re GMA message, as expected, Anna, yes.
“Sa halip na magturuan, magkapitbisig.. punish the perpetrators,” etc. etc.
Strange, just this afternoon we were advised that the banana plantation in Compostela was attacked by NPAs, good thing I’m only going to Bukidnon.
What is the general situarion there in Manila, I can’t seem to contact the house.
Tense, juggernaut.
is this a prelude to martial law?
Juggernaut,
I bet Gloria is toying with martial law but hasn’t got the nerve to pronounce it formally yet. A couple more of bombings and Esperon will be happy!
ADB,
You know what, I may be take some flak for frivolous talk but I can’t seem to shake off these thoughts.
* NPAs attack a banana plantation in Mindanao.
* Congress gets bombed (I don’t want to be in the shoes of
the security people)
* Officers are on trial for “coup de etat” or “mutiny”
* There’s a pending economic fallout (financial tsunami)
* If people will stage rallies against GMA now, we will be
doing her a favor.
So basically, we have an economic, political, and national security emergency situation, a recipe for…but then again who in their right mind in light of prior events would support this move?
11/13/07
Better believe it is a prelude to Martial Law. Ala Pakistan, ala Venezuela. Of all the bombs blasting in Pinas only the opposition get blasted? That airhead pandak knows how to blast. I tell you RESIGN NOW WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME. Hitler, with all his pride and power did not amount to a hell of beans.
dandaw,
It needs one more element, at least one of the cabinet must be attacked and its perfect, the state has to defend itself.
“… but then again who in their right mind in light of prior events would support this move?” — Juggernaut
Juggernaut,
Your list is enough ingredient for a wannabe dictator of her trump to declare emergency rule but there’s Ed Ermita, Puno and a couple of other diehards in Gloria’s entourage, Mike Arroyo included who would not mind Gloria declaring emergency powers.
Have no doubt whatsoever that she’s toying with the idea but she’s not sure that she’s got the military on side en toto and that’s what’s preventing her I reckon from whipping up emergency powers. Esperon can barely contain the grumbling in Tanay so I’m sure she’s not confident about declaring emergency powers (the woman would do so without batting an eyelash, she’s got the temperament, if only she were sure 101% about the military being behind her…)
Two hours after the Congress was bombed, I found myself driving around town, sent out by the wife and kids to forage for some midnight snack.
It dawned on me that I was in a unique position to gather raw reaction from the man-in-the-street before their opinions were shaped by media and commentators.
My tactic was simple, I will buy stuff from different vendors and while they were in the process of preparing my food, I would blurt out: “***Swear word***, binomba ang Kongreso. Sino kaya ang may gawa nun?!”. I would take pains NOT to make my own opinion obvious.
To a man — the balut vendor, the mami vendor, the peanut vendor, and the cigarette vendor all pointed their fingers at Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
“E sino pa ba, ser. E di yung ayaw na ayaw mabuking yung pinag-gagagawa
nya”
“Akala mo naman, kaya nya style ni Marcos.”
“P*ta, e sukol na sukol na siya e.”
“Sobra na talaga si Gloria.”
Really, people. You should refrain from issuing such wild, irresponsible speculations.
Gloria Arroyo does not want that. How can she declare martial law when you keep telegraphing her every f*cking move?
Guys, its too early to tell about anything. Too much happening one after another. The tense situation is ripe for bad elements looking to take advantage of the uncertainties. But lets keep track of our loved ones and our patriots and pray that we will all be safe.
klingon,
You’re right. Whatever happens, even if things go from bad to worst, we’ll just have to weather it like any disaster, and build again.
I’ve been trying to contact my wife there in Manila but her cell phone is off and no one is answering the phone. They may be sound asleep (I hope), nothing like a baby to make a nervous wreck out of a grown man.
What a relief! I was able to contact the house, everything is okay.
You guys better get some sleep already…
Juggernaut, glad to hear all is well on the home front.
info: House security received bombing threat 2 weeks ago.
——-
is it possible Akbar could have been THE accidental suicide bomber?
——-
Accidental coz it went off prematurely.
Im not accusing just speculating. Under gloria’s regime, everything is possible.
Spy,
How old is Akbar?
ooops, WAS Akbar?
The lack of respect towards of those in authority, sky rocketing crime rate, illegal drug traffic, rampant smuggling and corruption, the Glorietta 2 explosion, the murder of two election officers and the recent Batasan Pambansa bombing are signs of lawlessness and failure of governance in the Philippines. The inept-corrupt Arroyo regime has failed to protect the lives of its citizens. Why? It can be partly blamed on failure of intelligence. The police intelligence funds are allegedly diverted to other purpose not related to police work. The Batasan complex should be a well-secured area. The Batasan bombing may justify the declaration of martial law to save GMA’s ass.
Anna, read somewhere, he was born in the year l960, still young, the man who once proclaimed, “I am Basilan”, heard the same line in the movie Kingdom of Heaven when the King’s Brother in Law keep proclaiming himself “I am Jerusalem” and Salahadin gave it to him…
Prelude to emergency rule..
is this part of the deal with JDV and Ramos (US/CIA)?
@ dandaw, is there a Martial Law in Venezuela?
Vic,
Is that so? Quite young indeed. Oh well, Basilan caught up with him indeed if we are to believe the bombing is Basilan related!
Asked for his age coz I was wondering if he would be young enough to go fidgeting with a bomb after Spy sort of asked the inevitable, i.e., could Akbar be involved in the detonating of the bomb? Geez, poor soul, not even buried yet and here we are (me included of course)… oh well, never mind, let’s just wish him to meet his Maker in peace.
Isn’t this Akbar the one of tiyanak’s “chosen” in Mindanao? One of the “lords”. What lawlessness…a string of comelec officers deaths and now it is elevated to congress! Unlike Marianette’s and Saguisag’s wife’s deaths where I was touched, on this one I only have this to say…crime finally caught up with the villains. If the tiyanak and her generals did not do this horrible crime, she hsould be trembling now because the wrath of the people can not be stopped!
The death of Akbar only shows one thing: those who play fire will die by the fire. Some Basilan people (e.g. Puno) claim that Akbar’s death is caused by his enemies. Enemies, who? from Basilan or from the central command?
From my own vantage point – Akbar would not have been killed that way in Basilan, never. Indeed, he is Basilan!
This event will have enormous implications in the series of bombings and killings in RP, coinciding as they do with the series of scandals and venalities of Gloria’s regime. The next news will be deadlier. I’d better watch out what comes next.
Akbar was a very rich man in Mindanao, lots of wives who even ran for offices in different capacities. He is tiyanak’s trusted(baka palabas lang) ally. Remember when the tiyanak went to Mindanao and she joined the fighting soldiers kuno, the soldiers, particularly the marines did not want to participate because one of Akbar’s wives was with the tiyanak. Gokusen knows a lot about this man. Where are you Gokusen? It was even suspected that Akbar may have something to do with the mulilation of more than a dozen marines not too long ago. He is one of the “lords” in Mindanao!
Point is who will the idiots blame for this bombing now? I hope they will not say again that this is something like another prank call, or that it is caused only by some gas explosion.
As for this Akbar, good riddance if I may say. Nevertheless, may God forgive him for what he did to his country and people!!! Hopefully, this bombing will rattle the snakes in the HOR (more like whore!)!
Yuko, “bombing will rattle the snakes in the HOR…” for all you know, this may be the stone meant to kill two birds at the same time.
Ellen:
Is Congresswoman Ilagan in the hospital? Which hospital is she confined in? I would like to send her something to show my concern.
We are actually working with her on various projects for better Philippines.
Question now is how many more people need to be sacrificed for the evil woman squatting at the palace by the murky river? Golly, it’s more like it’s now hell knows no fury! pati kakampi ng ungas nadali!
They should end these killings now reaching more than a thousand since even during the Erap impeachment.
Akbar, the suicide bomber? He could have been part of the scheme but I doubt if he intended to be a victim himself! Hindi naman siya Al Qaeda, but Al Pidal!!! 😛
JdV already said the “terrorists” or “anarchists” could be behind this latest bombing. I’ll take a cue from there.
Now here’s a lead for the untrained idiots being ordered by the criminal to investigate this HoR bombing:
What d’ya know? Like the MRT bombing in 2000 blamed on Erap, this bombing can be the work of Janjalani, who has an axe to grind with Akbar.
May this incident wake up the “whores” of the Bastusang Pambansa that the more they keep protecting the tiyank, the more incidents like these will happen. Let the impeachment complaint, even without form push through so this evil “surot” will be taken out from her throne. This time, they took their own man’s life-Akbar! This should be a cue to the tiyanak’s loyal dogs that their mistress can not protect them all. They should therefore follow their conscience and do the right thing- TAKE THE “SUROT” OUT NOW!
The series of events (killings & bombings)that happened could be 2004 & 2007 election cheating related. Just wondering, may gustong magpatahimik sa mga may nalalaman.
Dead men tells no tales!
I am not happy to see a life lost but for the country, I am happy to see one traitor gone for good-that of Akbar! My condolences to those whose lives were taken by this horrible bombing. For the critical ones, may you get well soon!
Juggernaut, this incident may be the works of the same “extra-judicial killing experts”! Mayroon silang shooter in a motorcycle at mayroon silang bomb experts. Nakakatakot talaga. It is a very systematic elimination of the people who were related to the election fraud.
Luzviminda, they can kill all these big gangsters but there will always be the witnesses to the horrible crimes the “surot” in Malacanang had done and keep on doing. She is the biggest gangster! One of these days, all these crimes will catch up with her.
I’ll wait for Janjalani to accept responsibility for this bombing but I won’t free the criminal squatting at the palace by the murky river of doubt likewise for this and the Makati bombing. Kahit sino ang may kasalanan, she has to go. Command responsibility, sabi nga. Negligence is also punishable according to the law, you see!
Just heard of the tsismis in fact about her confinement in some hospital charged to the government Kunyari may sakit pero nagpaparetoke lang pala. Pati suso niretoke daw! Yuck!
Hello Crooks, you better shape-up or else face the wrath of the Filipino people. This is wake-up call for the House of Representa-thieves. Ceasefire! Ito ay para sa bayan. Itigil muna ang kurakutan at bastusan.
Yuko, the Janjalani brothers are all dead now. Dead meat tells no tale. The younger Janjalani was killed last, and the “mole” was already paid handsomely (by the US) for tipping off his master.
Hawaiianguy, soe relatives of Janjanali are saying that he is not dead, that the operatives killed the wrong guy. Maybe the relatives are right, afterall.
Correction: some relatives…
Honestly, I’m not inclined to give the Abu Sayyaf angle as having to do with the latest bombing and death of Akbar. All the ranking Abu officials are mostly dead, and the remaining few are on the run for dear life in the jungles of Sulu and Basilan, including their JI counterparts. True, the Abus may have an axe to grind with Akbar for betraying them and pointing at them as the beheaders of those marines. But their capability, I believe, has been seriously undermined with the loss of their leaders (Abu Sabaya, Kadafy Janjalani, Abu Solaiman, etc.). Without them, the lesser Abu chiefs have neither the capability nor the intelligence to threaten the capital any longer, at least for now.
Yup, that’s what I’ve heard! I’m told that in trying to impress the Americans, Gloria has presented them with false reports, even fake Janjalanis!
For all you know, HG, there are just a lot many dead bodies in the Philippine morgue that some years back, the Philippines had become a favorite refuge for Japanese fugitives as they could buy corpses being sold by crooks in the morgue, and then, pretend to have died. Presto, instant freedom from any legal responsibility for their crime! Then, they come back to Japan on fake Philippine passports.
I did an investigative report on it for some Japanese newspaper and I entitled it as “Dead bodies for sale!”
It is possible that those Janjalanis reported dead could have come from the city morgue! Thus, for once, JdV must be right to claim that this bombing of the HoR has been done by terrorists, even one who has an ax to grind with Akbar!
Still, the blame should be put on Mrs. Pidal. She should step down or better still, be dragged out of the palace by the murky river now!
Patalsikin na, now na!
Parasabayan, Kadafy’s relatives may all believe that he is still alive. But that won’t stand against a DNA test showing that Kadafy is dead, as corroborated by eye witnesses (soldiers on the ground during the gunbattle, and fellow Abus). The US will not give away millions of dollars for an unconfirmed story.
In solving crimes, HG, the most important thing to consider is the motive.
There is no reason why the driver of Liza Maza should be killed or Congresswoman Ilagan be harmed, but there is reason for killing Akbar!
Good policemen would start their investigations from there as a matter of fact. Other leads may even be discovered in the process as to whether or not this is part and parcel of the modus operandi to save the wannabe queen and her ally, Akbar, ending up as a collateral damage.
Unfortunately, with funds for the PNP being used to bribe the representatives of HoR, what they have there right now are mostly immoral, untrained and incompetent policemen! Crime unsolved!!!
Ooops, early morning here! Gotta catch up with more sleep!
Yuko:”There is no reason why the driver of Liza Maza should be killed or Congresswoman Ilagan be harmed, but there is reason for killing Akbar!” I agree. But that driver, including Cong. Teves, just happened to be there in the bombing scene. They have become, to say a techie lingo, part of the “collateral damage” though they have nothing to do with Akbar or even with Gloria.
As for Kadafy Janjalani, his name was already stricken off the FBI list of “most wanted,” after his death is confirmed (see http://www.rewardsforjustice.net/english/index.cfm?page=KHADAFI_JANJALANI; http://www.globalsecurity.org/security/profiles/khadafi_janjalani.htm).
Only one of the FBI’s list of 24 most wanted is from the Philippines, Isnilon Hapilon of the Abu Sayyaf(www.fbi.gov/wanted/terrorists/terhapilon.htm).
Sorry Ellen;….
ngayon, maghihigpit ng security sa congress, after a few months, BSDU, balik sa dating ugali, kwentuhan while working, aba e mabobomba nga tayo nyan!
Ellen,
Re wives of Akbar
I thought under Philippine Constitution, law in the Philippines only recognize 1 marriage, that in order for a person to contract another marriage, the 1st one should be annuled first, i.e., as if an earlier marriage never took place. So what is this turning around the law, declaring loud and clear that a man has TWO WIVES.
Doesn’t make sense! In France or in the UK (and I suppose even in the US), TWO WIVES would be called bigamy and is against the law even for Moslems in the country. If the law says a person cannot have 2 spouses, that law stands, religion or no religion.
I don’t take kindly to media recognizing bigamy and your link (abs-cbn?) has just “recognized” that poor, dead and very dead Akbar has 2 WIVES. Doesn’t make sense
Ex-Mujaheedin Akbar, coming out of the Congress lobby with Congresswoman Ilagan and their staff members, blasted by remote controlled bomb.
Akbar whose own private army are his “close-in security” by day, Abu Sayyaf bandits at night. Read Robert Aventajado’s book.
Meanwhile, Gabriela, which Rep. Ilagan represents was tagged in a video by AFP as one of the “Enemies of the State”.
The third rep, Henry Teves, operates an “annex” of the Teves dynasty in Negros.
It cuts accross the left, right and middle. A perfect statement!
Mahirap bang arukin? Mental Fatigue o Mentalidad ng naka-fatigue?
Revolution in the making or the tail wagging the dog?
Anna, not just two wives, I thought I heard four wives. In the koran, they are allowed four wives. Ask Dolorfino if that is allowed because I was told he is a moslem convert too.
Anna:
That is allowed under the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines (PD 1083).
Parasabayan,
I am aware that Moslems are “allowed” 4 wives in their religion but surely having 4 wives (term wife is synonimous to marriage I suppose) in a country whose laws prescribe, nay, ALLOW only one marriage, Moslems in our country are supposed to take note of that too, or are they exempt?
To my mind, there cannot be two sets of laws, one for Moslems and one for non-Moslems. Cultural practices is one thing but the law of the land is another. The bottom line is everyone is expected to follow the Law. Otherwsie, the law has got to be changed.
Atty,
Are you saying that this PD 1083 part of the Philippine law is that some kind of exception for Muslims?
Heh,heh, heh…no wonder more men are opting to convert to moslem. A great excuse to womanize!
Pardon for butting in.
AdB, right now two sets of laws govern Muslim Mindanao, one for the Muslims (under the sharia’h) and another for the Christians (under the legal system provided for by law). The sharia’h law (partly made operational by PD 1083), however, only covers the family and domestic affairs, including inheritance. In Muslim Mindanao, sharia’h courts exist and are part of the country’s judicial system.
ADB, not only dis Akbar had several wives. He put all of them in a position of power. One is Basilan governor, another is a mayor in the a town in Basilan. Another ran but lost.
Gokusen (she can’t be contacted) has given us some details of Akbar’s colorful life in past postings.

Akbar, wives controlled Basilan
Thanks for the inputs PSB and HG and of course Atty… I should’ve known. Just that Sharia’h law doesn’t exist in Europe and am bit at a loss that there should be two sets of laws.
So I imagine as PSB remarked, it’s a convenient thing to have this kind of law in Pinas?
Ellen, Thanks but it’s actually the link Akbar, wives controlled Basilan that got me inquiring about this WIVES (plural) issue…
Btw, do Muslim women in Pinas have the right to have several husbands too?
The bombing is an easy job, so precise, hightech. The bomb was brought in by technical squad that naturally pass without inspection. A hamburger delivery would be inspected seriously as a matter of course and as in the checkoff list. The Abus when talking on the cellphone always identify themselves but those acknowledgements on the blast wont even give a clue who the senders are. Lets watch how quickly PGM will visit the complex. A script again?
This is one of the things that I despise in the Muslim culture (sorry if I’m blunt about it) — ineaquality between men and women in front of the law. One set of law for men and another for women.
I despise seeing Muslim men in seaside resorts having one hell of a great time, swimming, oggling at other women in bathing suits, etc. while their wives sit by completely clothed in black from head to foot even in restaurants, one has pity for them since they can’t even lift their veil properly or away from their face in order to eat properly. Saw this several times.
“Let’s watch how quickly PGM will visit the complex.” — Valdemar
As far as I’m concerned, she can do without the visit and really, the world won’t stop turning. Her presence will not solve anything, might even exacerbate things. That woman has no good in her. She’s good only at lying, cheating and thieving.
It is then very obvious that one of Akbar’s men did him in. One of his bodyguards who goes with him to congress wiout being scrutinized. Malaki ang bayad ng gumawa for sure. Baka nandoon na sa Malaysia or Indonesia for all we know o nandiyan pa rin at nagmamasid kung sino and susunod na bibiktimahin. One thing is for certain though, whoever ordered his killing knows that Akbar knows all the “baho” of the “surot”! Ang dumi talaga ng politika!
Anna, ditto on these moslem women. Double standards talaga!
PSB, “ditto on these moslem women?” You mean they are allowed to have several husbands too?
OK, gotta hit the sack — am getting “manhid” here too hahaha! imbes na maawa kay Akbar, nabubuwisit tuloy ako when I hear of double standard… Ok, nite, nite folks!
Anna, ditto on the moslem men’s treatment of their women and ditto on allowing the women to have several husbands as well…heh, heh, heh! Men and women should have equal rights! Ang lagay lalaki lang and magpapasarap?
To bad the master has beaten on his own game by the deceptions’ type of ideology is quite different and imply a brutal oppression of any dissent. But, who or where would we look to lay blame on these bomb attacked to a man who claimed to be Basilan? It makes sense that the high ranking creeps in government would look to the opposition and the leftist as scapegoat – they were thought of as destabilizes for the most part, had unusual customs that set them apart, and generally stuck together tightly as a group -kind of the us against the world mentality.
I always wondered how poor filipino citizens could initially allow the destruction such as this to occur. After the Malacanang propaganda war machine picked up speed, its easy to see how fear played a role, why would they cast fellow political allies aside as there collateral damages? Perhaps the dictators ability and interest to mobilize on their own behalf to the detriment of the public at large can explain the negative or indifferent feelings toward the manipulator Akbar. The concepts of Malacanang behavior are certainly not new and are well documented. Perhaps there is something in Malacanang itself that cultivates this behavior in some of the devout, A type of haji followers like Akbar. Perhaps being the chosen people in Basilan to reign terror has lead them inexorably down this path of confrontation on what’s the secret between Bedol, Garci, Abalos and Akbar.Or the bomb is intended to the Gabrela representative and Akbar was in the wrong place at the wrong time without warning. To lost Akbar,Gloria has lost her wings and panties in Mindanao.
They shouldn’t discount the gas leak theory. Methane could have been produced in large amounts in the Batasan Complex. Isn’t that place full of s**t?
Parasabayan: “It is then very obvious that one of Akbar’s men did him in. One of his bodyguards who goes with him to congress wiout being scrutinized.” Hmmmm, your source please?
This is interesting. All of a sudden, the suspicion shifts away from the Abu Sayyaf as bombers, which some people like the police think may have been the case.
Anna, as for Muslim women also having right to marry several husbands, that’s a taboo. They can’t, even if they want to. They will be stoned to death, which is the punishment for that “aberrant” behavior. Polygamy (plural marriages) only applies to Muslim men, but never to Muslim women.
Nandoon ang mother of all methane.
C4 daw ang cause of the explosion at the Batasan sabi ng police. Doesn’t that sound familiar?
Jon M,
I think the public’s strong distrust of this administration is the only thing that’s keeping the Midget from declaring martial law.
Hawaiianguy, I just deduced this from an article I read that Akbar have two sets of bodyguards. At night he has the Abus.
atty36252,
Yeah, it sounds uncannily familiar.
Watch how they vet the script any minute now. The ASG has disowned the bombing and the public isn’t buying the terror angle anyway.
What sort of inane theory are we going to be treated to next?
“I thought under Philippine Constitution, law in the Philippines only recognize 1 marriage, that in order for a person to contract another marriage, the 1st one should be annuled first, i.e., as if an earlier marriage never took place. So what is this turning around the law, declaring loud and clear that a man has TWO WIVES.”
Anna, the Philippine Constitution has been violated a hundredth times over. I knew way back, implicitly Muslims are allowed by law to practice their own costumes, the reasons why so many Christians Military Officers caught with multiple wives converted to Islam was to get away from committing Polygamy and that it the Height of Hypocrisy of our Government, instead of amending the Constitutions giving this right or privilege to the Muslim, just like we did in ours regarding the rights and privilege of our First Nations and all other Aboriginals, a separate Treaties.
Latest News gathered from PNP…
Batasan Blast, an accident!… hehehe 🙂
The Timing?.. Today happened to be the start of the Bribery Scandal Senate probe…
tsk, tsk, tsk.. wala hanggang ganito nlang tyo.. tinatawanan n lang tyo ni GMA & HER DOGS!
The Moslems, even by Philippine Constitution and Philippine Law, are given exemption to the rule, and can enter into
a polygamous marriage in accordance with the tenets and teachings of their religion.
In fact, this is one reason I was told why Leviste for instance converted to Islam! It is to legitimize his relationship with one aspiring for a high position in the government.
Ooops, this should read, “…It was to legitimize his relationship with one aspiring for a high position in the government….”
really, skip? if the Abu Sayyaff Group had already denied any hand on the Batasan blast, then who is next in line to PNP’s rigmarole of hohum suspects?
reminds me, now is the good chance for DJB/Rizalist to establish and angle the frame of his favorite whipping boys, Joma, and the NPAs.

Bob,
A friend whose sibling works at the hospital where the unano had a health check-up said that the doctors there saw the silicones planted in her breasts to firm them up. Iyan ang tsismis among the socialites in the Philippines. Niretoke pati mukha!
Not to scare you, guys, but people who die by violent death sometimes remain in limbo on this earth lalo na kung katulad ni Akbar!!!
Over in Ifugao, they bury immediately those who die this kind of death para hindi makapaghiganti at magmulto ang namatay!
Now, because Akbar is Moslem, he will surely be immediately buried as per tenet of their religion. No need for those lavish burials to honor this hated man for conniving with the Kulimbat in the palace by the murky river.
Over and out. No time to debate with anyone.
HG: The US will not give away millions of dollars for an unconfirmed story.
*****
Oh yeah! FYI, HG, the FBI has been paying the Philippine police even for small information, true or false, on Bin Laden even since the 90’s. In fact, it was why the short woman has been keen on providing the US intelligence all kinds of reports even those she herself has fabricated, and the US paying because they come from the office of the Philippine president.
Ask any FBI or CIA expert on Philippine affairs, and they will tell you that their agencies have paid big monies to their informers in the Philippine government.
Bombers when doing their thing always aim to inflict the most casualties and damage as much as possible. The more victims, the better for them, a fulfillment of a job well done.
The bombing in Congress seems not to fit in. The bomb was put in a place to make sure that the ensuing damage would be minimal. The bomb was not really meant to claim as many victims. If ever there will be some victims, it would be like “bato-bato sa langit, pag may tamaan, pasensiya na lang”. The victims were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The bomber has no specific target. If the bombing’s aim is to claim as many casualties as possible, they should have placed it in a place where it can blow the whole session hall while they are in session and not after when everybody is hurrying home. Forget about security, the carrier or the bomber is already in and he can decide where and whatever he wants to do with his bomb.
What I am driving at is who is in the best position to plant a bomb inside the house of congress? They say that security is really very tight, so who can go inside without the rigid scrutiny of the security people? My perception is the person who brought in the thing is known to the security people, that’s why they never bothered to subject him/her to inspection.
With all the stinking scandals and corruptions in the government Gloria would benefit the most by diverting the attention of the people from the issues. At least in the meantime while the people are talking about the incident, Gloria and company can plot their next move. Would it be an emergency rule, which in the first place is the real aim for the numerous killings and bombings?

Ellen,
It’s been a long time since I had my last comment. You have to find out the answers to the following questions and digest some of the incidents in the past in order to find out who is/are responsible to this incident:
1. Who is Wahab Akbar? Read the book “Under the Crescent Moon” by Vitug & Gloria. In the concluding pages, you will find out that lots of killings and kidnappings were done in Basilan since Akbar became the Governor.
2. Recall the kidnappings and killings in Basilan that had landed on the front pages of our newspapers and worldwide media networks since 2000–the kidnapping and killing of a Claretian priest at Punoh Muhaji; beheading of soldiers captured by the ASG; the kidnapping of a child of a British National; ambush of a Battalion Commander in Basilan (the victim escaped from the ambush); the Dos Palmas Kidnapping/Lamitan Siege where some of the victims were killed by the ASG to include an American, Sobero and the killing of Scout Rangers and a young officer of the Army’s Light Armor; ambush and killing of the Head of the Lamitan Provincial Hospital (brother of the COMELEC Regional Director of Region 9); Sipadan Kidnapping; and other unreported kidnappings and killings in Basilan; were “masterminded” by Akbar.
3. Where is former Congressman Salapuddin of Basilan? All of a sudden Salapuddin went out of the radar from Basilan politics? He could have fielded himself as Governor in the last election, instead, the wife of Akbar ran for the position. Did Akbar promise anything to Salapuddin?
4. It is a fact that the “bodyguards” of Akbar were directly responsible in the ambush of Phil Marines and the mutilations to some of them in the latest debacle of the PhilMarines in Basilan few months ago. The Marines had their anniversary last week and the families of the dead Marines are still seeking for vengeance and justice. Is the PhilMarines bold enough to do this? Is it better to do this in Basilan where most of the Marines are deployed or in the grounds of the House of Representatives where PNP are the guards/security?
5. Akbar received a lot of US aid (infra projects and money?) during the RP-US Balikatan Exercises in Basilan. For a while, there were no killings and kidnappings during that time because Akbar had lots of money. The people in Basilan are not sure if the money/grants given were used for the projects they are intended to be used. Is the US of A happy with the present condition of Basilan? Where did money of the US of A go?
6. Akbar as a politician is a “creation” due to the support of past military commanders assigned in Basilan/Southcom and now retired generals of the AFP whom, some of them are still active in the government service. Did he renaged some of his promises to these “supporters”?
Ellen, these are facts. You can make your own conclusions as to who is responsible for the killing of Akbar.
Till next posting…
Correction… Seven Virgins
This is not a question of who will benefit the most, or who are capable of breaching security in congress, time and again it has been proven that any form of security is not 100% efficient. Even science says that 100% efficiency is impossible to achieve.
The basic question still remains, “who is the criminal?”, thats it!, wag na nating dagdagan pa, and it can be anyone, it could be you!

Hindi ako naniniwala dyan, fallacy yan eh, another exaggeration. Be a lider, and make your argument personal and in detail.
duren,
You will never understand until you are one and you will never be one until you learn how to take responsibility. Try it, management position pays more but the responsibility is more unfortunately. Hindi mo ba kilala si John Maxwell? How about Steven Covey? It only goes to show you are have not experienced one of the most expensive and exclusive programs for management. Work hard…never get contented.

I saw in the national news that the Venezuelans were protesting against the dictatorship of their leader and they were met with water cannons and rubber bullets by the military force of the dictator. The dictator don’t have to declare Martial Law as it is there is already one. He already nationalized private industries, he already holds the purse. These dictators don’t learn from history.
“It only goes to show you are have not experienced one of the most expensive and exclusive programs for management”-juggernaut
Who does?
But one does not need to be educated in the most expensive and exclusive programs for management alone in order to learn the value of reason and the sense of choosing what is and what is not to believe.
“The basic question still remains, “who is the criminal?”, thats it!”- duren
Indeed the basic question is “who is the criminal”?, but I think it is not the only question.
Jonas Burgos up to now is missing-“Who is the criminal?”
The fertilizer scam has no closure yet – “Who is the criminal?”
The Glorietta explosion up to now has no conclusion in the offing-“Who is the criminal?”
I agree, we have to ask the question,”who is the criminal?”, kaya lang ang tanong,” gaano tayo katagal mag-aantay ng mga sagot?”
“National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales on Wednesday said an intelligence report on the threat to the life of Basilan Representative Wahab Akbar was received two weeks ago.
“We got the warning two weeks ago. This could have an implication on who killed him,” said Gonzales.”
Do you believe this?
Why didn’t they do anything about so-called security report?
Why did it happen in the highly secured Batasan complex?
zen2,
Yes, the Abu Sayyaf has disavowed the bombing.
What worries me is that Gloria will try and try again, the events growing progressively more violent.
She will hedge her bets on the fact that the majority of the populace will begin to see the regular violence as evidence of a “growing lawnessness” that needs to be curbed.
It’s all up to us. We have to raise hue and cry and to resist with all our might this diabolical
mind-conditioning.
If we don’t do so, we will soon wake up to a day so dark no sunshine can dispel the gloom.
Norberto Gonzales knew about the threat two weeks ago? Hah,hah, hah baka sila sila ang nagplano two weeks ago! It is so fishy that smells to the heavens!
This looks to me more like a distraction to the impeachment proceedings. They just made sure that the victim would be someone they need to get rid of because Akbar is more of a liability to them than an asset! So even if Akbar perished matutuwa pa ang marami rather than grieve. Very good production talaga! Well we can be like Sherlock Holmes sometimes.
Off topic: So the impeachment complaint was junked. I guess all the suhol worked! May araw din kayo. Tingnan ninyo ang nangyari kay Akbar. God has his own way of justice.
Corrrection: buto buto!
Norim;
Welcome back! Of course,I wonder why, penguin can not fly and where is our pareng Mrivera. But,you can beat your mother-in-laws pension on these series of bombing had eventually cost too many beautiful lives. But unless we face the distressing facts, we should expect more terrible surprises. Very few people are actually willing to acknowledge that political greed and lust of power are, whether we like it or not, deeply intermingled in dominating every single breath we take in every second of our existence in this plagued part of earth..
The sleeping tragedy had been ticking all along like a time-bomb. For too long we have tolerated corrupt people in our society whose poisonous ideology had been tirelessly feeding a destructive practices to schoolchildren and adults alike. Since the time Gloria glued her arse in power people have been subjected to a daily routine of arbitrary murder with their morning coffee in a continuous horror story that has no parallel to Marcos history. The rats in Malacanang are completely ignoring the fact that almost all the victims of these attacks have been helpless working class or no class going about their insufferable daily lives in search of pandesal and repack nescafe to put on their tables without chair and mantil. What do they have to say right now? Gloria’s tactical condemnation should not fool any of us.The leopards have not shed their skins so easily. They are simply too embarrassed to peek their heads out of their holes.
Now,I need the jack for my paningit.Hehehehe!
If he knew, if there were warnings, why did they not increase the security in the House? Those people died because he did absolutely nothing about it.
It’s not Science which claimed 100% efficiency impossibility, Dude, este, Duren.
Maybe, it’s your book, instructor, or school librarian, but certainly not Science.
Stop reading that book where you got it. Access PRM site… there are links there at the bottom of the homepage which will rebut that academic “half-truth”.
From the looks of it…
more scandals = more senate insvestigations = more bombings = more collateral damage = more misery for the people except Duren
Lucky him/her.
IED is a three-letter abbreviation which may refer to:
° Improvised Explosive Device, an explosive device often used in unconventional warfare
° Istituto Europeo di Design, The European Institute of Design
° Indo-European Etymological Dictionary, by Julius Pokorny
Instantaneous electrical detonator
° Interlingua-English Dictionary, the first major presentation of Interlingua to the public
° Intermittent Explosive Disorder, a disorder of the brain.
° International Endowment for Democracy, a U.S. non-profit organization.
° Intelligent Electronic Device
° Immigration Employment Document, in the context of UK Immigration Documentation.
° Institute for Educational Development, at the Aga Khan University
° Individual educational development, one name for a Special education class
tayerevo at nelbar
One need not be a “tuta of malacanang” to denounce your lack of reason and stupidity. A mere person with common sense would surely react negatively on your posts. Hindi natin kailangan ang terorista. I wonder if Ms. Ellen would reprimand such senselessness in her blog.
duren,
Why can’t you reprimand your president for bombing innocent civilians?
… and now even her allies.
Gloria despite being a miserable failure, somehow won the election. In point of fact, election results were highly questionable and that made the difference. All who see that they voted for Gloria and not the idiot. It is startling that there are that many stupid citizens in our country in which the dissent is the highest form of patriotism. Pidalism socialist will try to say that it makes you anti-pinoy to ever criticize the President and that not only is it acceptable to question your government, it is the cornerstone of a functioning democracy. The president has always said that she won’t stop until all the perpetrators and the real killers are all behind bars. What she didn’t mention is that she sees her every day in the mirror.
Sampot
right back at you..why can’t you reprimand the opposition, Trillanes et al, the media and the left leaning groups for bombing innocent civilians?
There, you tasted your own medicine. I wonder if it is bitter.
Kung plano ito ng mga naka unipormeng gustong makaganti sa kaniya, it was a perfect and well planned execution.
Mike, I concur! But maybe they can still redeem themselves at the plenary. There are 80 needed votes to reverse the junking but if all these vultures got the bribe money, I doubt for any reversal. Bombahan na lang talaga ang solusyon!
Pambihira!
Maybe this is a good time be reminded of a write-up by Carlos H. Conde/davaotoday.com when it was thought that Martial Law was being prepared.
‘Fake Slay Plot Vs Davao Solon Ushered in Martial Law’ What possible good did the “disclosure” — that Congressman Prospero Nograles was being hunted by assassins — do to Davao City? If the authorities were convinced that they had suspects (they even had police sketches of them; in this country, apparently all one has to do to make a threat seem credible is to produce kuris-kuris of unrecognizable men), why are there no arrests? And why all the speculation that Leftists could be behind this plot?
Ariel Casilao of Bayan is right: Nograles is nothing to them. They would gain nothing from his demise. Jeppie Ramada of Bayan Muna had an even better line: that what haunted Nograles was not some assassin but his conscience. Even Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has said that the “militant” Left was not behind this alleged plot. And, considering his connections to the Left, he ought to know. So why is Nograles spewing all this nonsense that the Left is out for his head? Just because he has proven himself to be a huge (con)ass, utterly subservient to his master in Malacanang? What this alleged plot does, however, is contribute to the growing perception that the discredited Arroyo regime is trying to deflect public attention from its sins. Indeed, some quarters are now even thinking that the alleged Nograles plot and the “car bombing” of Rep. Robert Jaworski Jr. last week were all staged to create a situation similar to the one that gave Marcos the justification to declare martial law (”Fake ambush of Enrile ushered in martial law — Inquirer” ).
Unless the authorities can present suspects and convincing proof that there’s a plot to kill Nograles, the public would be better off being absolutely incredulous about this. The police and the National Bureau of Investigation just don’t have the credibility anymore to convince the public about this self-serving plot on their mere say so (which is probably why Duterte chimed in with his “confirmation”).
While they’re at it, they should also make an effort to answer some basic questions about the supposed assassination plot against Rep. Jaworski. If it was a car bombing, he would have been blown to smithereens. But what happened, apparently, was that there was a smoke first, then the fire — that, to me, indicated that the “assassins” didn’t want the congressman dead. If they did, they wouldn’t have warned him off with a smoke coming from the engine of his Innova. This gave Jaworski the opportunity to park his car, step out of it, sprint away from harm, and watch as his car is engulfed by flames. Car bombs, as we could glean from reports emanating from Israel and Iraq, don’t emit smoke before they go off. They just go off, period. Back to Nograles. He has offended the public enough with his public display of affection to Arroyo. He’s done enough. He’s made his point. He’s paid his political dues, and I’m sure he’ll be rewarded for it. Why does he have to insult our intelligence?
My Comment: Same player, sound familiar?
If you remember, Nograles again further insulted our intelligence by sending his son to stand in for him at a function because he said the PNP had informed him that the assassins were there to kill him, Really!, and he sent his son to replace him ha ha ha!
this looks more like an assassination.
Problem is these people are leading the country, where to nobody is very sure – band aid governance is all they know..
duren,
this is a profile of a terrorist:

duren,

you got me lost there, duren.
why would a person with common sense react negatively?

tayerevo, should I expect that the 5 IDE that you would like delivered to malacanang is a type of chocolate. Then that is good. Continue spreading peace and reconciliation, our country needs more like you.
no duren, i actually want to make it 10.:-)
yeah, merry Christmas to you duren.
i wonder which course in management did our moslem brothers took to be able to manage 3 to 4 wives. i mean it is difficult enough with one.
“why can’t you reprimand the opposition, Trillanes et al, the media and the left leaning groups for bombing innocent civilians?” — duren
I’m sorry. I don’t get this. Are you accusing the aforementioned people of bombing innocent civilians? RE: Trillanes, if you are refering to the Oakwood incident, according to the records at the Regional Trial Court of Makati, the prosecution has never been able to prove that the Magdalo actually used explosives. The said explosives were never presented in court, despite the fact that all the men present were rounded up and jailed.
“The said explosives were never presented in court, despite the fact that all the men present were rounded up and jailed.” — Klingon
Is that so? Didn’t know that. Hah! Wonder why not? Maybe Gen Efren Abu who was then prepared to invest Oakwood got sidetracked. Heh!
I don’t know what to make out of this information.
Also, I read that Villar reacted to the changing of the guards in the Senate, complaining that the move was not coordinated with the Senate sergeant-at-arms. He was quoted as saying “You know in these instances, we are not assured if we should feel safe or not. The sight of these many soldiers around the Senate can be a source of fear,”.
Kung sa bagay, we would not know whether the move was merely for the SAF to take over the Senate security detail or to take over the Senate, period.
Speaking of Trillanes? Nasaan na yung FBI and Aussie report?
“Razon said investigators from the Australian Federal Police and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as Israeli experts, had backed the gas-leak theory. He refused to disclose the results of the visitors’ independent findings, saying these were the foreign experts’ request. The police can quote liberally from their reports in the Philippine police report.” (Manila Times)
********************************
That’s the best way to lie.
“Barias said the recovery of the five pumps will help strengthen their accidental gas explosion theory.”
*************************
But they haven’t seen the pumps yet. Smells like something is cooking – the evidence.
“Razon, however, said no amount of findings from other groups could overturn the results of their own probe. He added that they are the only authorized investigators of the incident.”
***********************
This is not a question of authority, but physical evidence and the scientific disciplines (chem, physics, engineering) that weigh the evidence. Now he is harping on authority.
Reminds me of the Church and Galileo. No amount of “authority” can beat scientific evidence.
Makikisali ulit sa Ellenville 🙂
BLACK KNIGHT — AFAIK Gerry Salapuddin ran for Basilan governor and was the Glueria’s bet against the first wife of Akbar (Jum Akbar, who ran under the Liberal-Drilon banner) and lost to her.
Tama talaga in the long run etong si Gabriela Party-list Rep. Liza Maza in saying na diversionary tactic lang ito ng gubyerno/something like a cover-up. And yet they’re having the gall to say na life goes on after this, what with the Kampi-Lakas clique formally laying to rest the “weak” impeach rap filed by Atty. Pulido.
Atty,
I don’t trust anything Razon will say about the Glorietta bombing, er methane fart explosion pala.
Black Knight, it’s good to hear from you again.
“It only goes to show you are have not experienced one of the most expensive and exclusive programs for management”-juggernaut
I think Juggernaut is referring to the management program otherwise known as leadership in the PMA. I doubt any of us here in this blog (if there’s one, raise your hand pls) other than Juggernaut experienced it…
Batasan Blast
The south wing entrance of the House of Representatives was bombed killing at least four people. That’s the bad news. If the bomb was detonated inside where pork-feasting congressmen were having a session, that would have been good news.
Stock Market’s Reaction
Despite last night’s bombing at the Bastusang Pambansa, the stock market snapped a two-day losing streak rising sharply by 2.28% in today’s trading even as the peso opened higher against the US dollar. Traders who refused to be identified said both the peso and the market would have performed much better if the casualties included more congressmen.
Good News: President Arroyo puts up P5-million reward for info on Batasan blast
Bad News: Half of the P5M came from Kampi; half came from the League of Governors
Another news: The amount will be distributed among the tongressmen as they have all the info kasi yon lang ang kailangan ni goria. After that, wala na.
TurningPoint — That’s expected re: bribe. Isn’t Lakas part of the equation too? (Though reading between the lines it’s turning against the Glueria as well)
43 voted down the “impeachment” at half a million each. They had to work fast for fear the batasan disentigrates before they get the windfall.
Expect retaliation from the Akbar camp. The marines should brase for bloodier encounters. Palibhasa itong si tiyanak at ng kanyang mga alipores na mga heneral eh hindi man lang siguro nakaranas lumagi sa Basilan, except of course the feast hosted by one of Akbar’s wives, kaya bale wala sa kanila ang paghihiganti ng mga muslim sa Basilan.
